Kojak's Cafe

MY REVIEW: We enjoyed a piping hot meal that was really good. It was evening and only a couple of other people there. Our meals started with a small greek salad that was freshly made. I had the chicken parmesan which I didn't need a knife to cut. It had a small amount of a butter sauce on top that was really good. I like that we could choose our other 2 sides which were also freshly made. My husband liked his gyro and sides. You order off the board at the counter and the food is prepared and brought to your table. It reminded me of a good cafeteria except instead of walking down the window of food and choosing it's all prepared after you order. Good, fresh food at reasonable prices. We will return.

MY REVIEW: Decided to try this place primaily because of a coupon offer. Well, that was a mistake. As this was a Thursday evening things were slow wtih only two other tables waiting for their food. I watched this unfold. The watiress delivered our food to another table and set it down in front of these patrons. They hovered over the dishes claiming, rightfully so, that this was not what they had ordered. The waitress then proceeds to pick up the food from their table and set it down in front of us without comment. This food should have been returned to the kitchen. I refused to eat mine and will never set foot in this place again as this level of care and concern is unacceptable to me.
Eventually the cashier came over and wanted to know if I wanted something else to eat but no offer was made of returning my money. All I have to say is beware.

MY REVIEW: Kojak's has a good Mediterranean Fare plate, but as for another dish, I find their crab cakes a little bland. My husband has had good luck with all their chicken and fish dishes, and prices are quite reasonable. If you ask for a menu to take with you (we order a lot from home and then go pick it up), they will tell you the menu is online. (Unspoken message: "So print your own menu!") I wish Kojaks were open on Saturday or Sunday. I believe they would get a LOT of business from area residents.

MY REVIEW: Took wife out and used a coupon from the Houst*n Pr$ss and had their crab cakes and bacon wrapped steak. Both were good although the steak is chopped beef. Service is hit and miss. Prices around 6 to 10$ for dinner which includes salad. Pastries look wonderful. Will try next time. Who loves you baby!

MY REVIEW: I can only comment on the dinner menu because I have not been there for breakfast or lunch. I recommend this restaurant for some menu items and discourage you from other menu items. First the good..... The meatloaf is wonderful. It is juicy and the herbs and spices are good and the mushroom gravy is wonderful. The gyros are also great. (I have heard that the owner owns a gyro restaurant near the Medical Center) They're a little pricy but good. I also recommend the pastries.
Now the bad.... Do not get the Chicken Fried Steak!!! It starts out good with them hand breading a chopped steak and battering and frying it, but it all goes down hill from there. The gravy is the consistency of milk with no flavor. All the milk does is wet the crust so it is mushy. The steak and the crust have no flavor either. Also, do not get the menu item named “Angus Bacon Beef Wrapped Steak”. I thought $10.00 for a steak was a good price until I ordered it and it was a hamburger steak with bacon wrapped around it and not a steak. Nowhere on the menu did it say hamburger meat, and nothing was said by the order-taker when I ordered it medium rare. The side orders averaged around 1-2 ounces each. (When I was little my mom called that a poor mans Filet Mignon). Also, if you like the po'boys at A*ntone's Famous Po'Boys & Deli, you will like them here, because they are basically the same. Finally, there are signs on the front window that say that beer and wine are available, but they did not have either available.

MY REVIEW: This is a suprisingly good cafe' type place in a non-descrpit strip mall on West 18th between the Heights proper and NW Mall. They have a good variety of selections for lunch and dinner; the roast beef and chicken salad po-boys are good and filling, as are the soups for lunch, and the dinner entrees are fine also. As for the comment by 'GardenOaksMom', I've NEVER had anyone scold me for taking too many napkins, and the signage isn't out of control either. The ladies at the counter may not be uber friendly, but they certainly are't rude or 'cold'. Not everyone has to be 'Suzy Sorority' 24/7!! The food is good, the service is good, and the prices are reasonable. That constitutes a good eating place for my tastes.

MY REVIEW: Kojak's is a great find in the heights area. The food is outstanding, and the prices are reasonable. Great daily specials for variety, along with a great daily menu. The breakfast tacos and kolaches are very good, and always try one of their daily specials if you see something you like. You can check specials on their website, updated twice daily about an hour before lunch and dinner. It makes it very easy for to go orders.
The owners and employees have always been very friendly to me and all the people from our office that eat here as well. We pick up food regularly, Mark and Kathryn, the owners, have always taken care of us. It says a lot about a place when the owners take a hands on interest in the daily operations.
I highly recommend Kojaks. If you live in the area and have not tried it you are missing out on some great meals.

MY REVIEW: Good Food. However, the service is not very friendly. Also, they are very weird about napkins. It first started with signs asking to please limit use of "premium napkins." Then, they added another sign (they love signs) to save the trees and use less napkins. Then, yet another sign stating that this is not a barbeque restaurant so don't use so many napkins. It is ridiculous. I recommend they remove the silly signs, get some CHEAPER, RECYCLED BROWN napkins like other cafes . . . and lastly, loosen up. Your customers will be happy! Also, tell the counter lady to smile!

MY REVIEW: Our office pre-ordered 45 breakfast tacos for am pick up. We ordered a variety of the breakfast tacos, one of our favorites is the greek style taco. Only 1 of the greek style tacos was in our order, supposedly there were 2 taco orders that went out that morning, we received the incorrect order. Many of the tacos were not even close to the ones we had previously ordered. We were told by Kathleen, "sorry, we made a mistake, nothing else we can do". No offer was made to us to correct the order, no discount offered, nothing. We will definitely not go back to Kojak's.

MY REVIEW: Excellent service, very friendly. Good selection of good food and much of it healthy as well. I like the atmosphere of the inside of the restaurant. We used to go there for breakfast on the weekends too but I think they stopped serving breakfast on the weekends. That was always good too. A definite place to go in the Heights for a good, inexpensive, casual dinner. I recommend the meatball sub, best around.

MY REVIEW: Kojak's is the best. We use them for our company meetings, banquets and everyother chance we get. My favorite dish there is the Trio Salad, but E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G IS AWESOME.

MY REVIEW: They have awesome pesto pasta! I also really like their chicken salad subs. They're already made fresh and kept in the fridge so when i'm on my lunch break and in a hurry I just run in and grab one and go. I work right down the street so I visit frequently during lunch hour and there is never a wait of any kind!

MY REVIEW: Simply put, Kojak's is one of the best restaraunts in Houston. I have been here over 15 times, and never had a bad meal.
Everything is really good from the Avocado BLT sandwich to the Gyro to the fish picatta. On mondays they have a meatloaf dish which is very popular amongst my co-workers.
The only downside is that are only open at night from tues-thurs until 8pm. Also, they don't have brunch anymore on the weekends.
Honestly I can't rave enough about this place... me and my wife go here at least twice a week it is that good. Fresh ingredients and delicious recipies.
The place is always packed during lunch so expect a line when you get there.

MY REVIEW: Kojak's is just down the street from my beautiful apartment complex, The Grove at White Oak, and its a short walk there and back! This place has amazing hot sandwiches and pasta plates. My favorite is the Club sandwich. Each item on the menu is slightly different from similar plates you might have elsewhere, but cheaper and more filling!! They have a HUGE self serve cooler with a wide variety of beers, sodas, fruit juice and waters. I really like the atmosphere. The friendly faces and cozy cafe appeal really makes for a terrific lunch or dinner!

MY REVIEW: Kojak's is some of the most amazing food I have ever had the pleasure to eat!! Everything that Cheif Mark creates is a glorious experience for my taste buds. I go there at least twice a week and I am never never disappointed. They have the best fish special on Tuesdays for lunch!! The single most under rated restaurant in the Houston area. Everyone should make the trip you will not be disappointed!! I am just so lucky it is right around the corner from my work!
