MY REVIEW: We really wanted to love this place, as we live in the neighborhood and eat out for breakfast every weekend. However, the food was vile (omelet overcooked and brown, toast and hashbrowns cold, iced tea tasted like it had been brewed last month). The waitress was excessively cheerful. This is a nice little club for insiders and locals but not for us.

MY REVIEW: If you're a "regular" you need no explanation or review. It's a special place with special people. Tommy, takes ribbing from everyone but as good hearted as they come. Maryanne, Elsa, & Nancy are all as sweet as can be and always try to please. Like a previous review said, it's like stepping into Mayberry in the '60s. Decent food, great prices. Eggs Benedict on weekends for $6. Not Brennans but you can't argue. I will be a regular as long as they are there.

All are welcome, even liberals, just don't sit at the counter.

I love you Tommy, even if you are "Proud to be gay" (private joke)

MY REVIEW: Unbelievable prices! I don't know how they serve so much food for so little money. A great place to eat breakfast - even at lunchtime. Many, many regulars.

MY REVIEW: Now NON-smoking throughout. Makes it so much easier to really taste the seafood gumbo on Fridays, and the excellent breakfasts and vegetable plates. Tommy, the owner, really did the right thing for the wonderful waitresses and staff by giving them a healthier working environment.

MY REVIEW: The waitreses are probably the nicest in Houston. The food is incredible. Grits cannot be beat, as the perfectly cooked hash browns. My girlfriend and I used to live in Bellaire and found out about the place just as we were moving to the West University area, but we STILL make the trek back over to Bellaire Coffee Shop because of the great atmosphere and food. The cost is $4.25 for 2 eggs, 4 pieces of crispy bacon, a very nice helping of perfect hash browns, and 2 pieces of toast. Our breakfast costs roughly $12 every time we go. I would HIGHLY recommend this place as the best breakfast in the Houston area!

MY REVIEW: Let me start by saying because this restaurant is in Bellaire they allow smoking. It had been so long I have seen a smoking section,it didnt register till the table behind me lit up.Now for the most important topic. The food.My husband had the He man breakfast. You have choice of eggs,pancakes/waffle,sausage.I had a waffle with a side of sausage. We both had coffee. With tip(we left her $3.00)it was about $15.00.Our food was almost stone cold, and I would call it below average in both taste and quality.Yes it was full of regulars, who I would guess live nearby. It was not good enough to return.So...if you are looking to smell cigs while you eat mediocre food at best, this is the place for you!!

MY REVIEW: The previous review hits the nail on the head. My in-laws eat here 5 to 6 times each and every week, they never get tired of the place. Its all about watching "the regulars" or about becoming one. Inexpensive and quite basic, but unparalleled for the All-American small town experience.

MY REVIEW: My husband insists on the Bellaire Coffee Shop every Sat & Sun. He, also, eats lunch there almost everyday during the week. He's been coming to this place since he was just a tot. It's not so much for the food, the ambiance or the service, it's for the people & a way to decompress from his hectic mornings. There is no stress in this place and that makes it worth the trip. You have to understand what you are getting into, though, & I think the people that read or hear rave reviews only to be disappointed, don't. Here's my attempt to describe it, accurately. This place is truly a trip back in time. Don't expect Le P*eep, A*valon Diner or even I*HOP.

The food & cost:

My husband and I busted out laughing when we took a friend of mine & she tried to order an iced cappacino. The look on Maryann's (the waitress) face was priceless! There are no special coffees, here, but it's a lot less expensive than places that have those kinds of things. My husband's favorite is the "Heman Breakfast." For $4.75 you get 2 eggs any way you want (including egg whites), 2 pancakes or 1 waffle & your choice of bacon or ham. Where can you get all that for that price? I usually get a grilled cheese sandwhich which I highly recommend (ask them to add a slice of tomato, it's yummy that way) & that's about $2. The coffee, although not cappacino, frappacino, etc. is very good & for 90 cents how could you go wrong? The eggs are excellent. On Mondays, they serve spaghetti & meatballs as the special of the day & that is awesome. All of their soups are really good, too. They don't have everything on every day. The owner, Tommy, & his wife make all the specials, themselves, & they often run out of stuff. Personally, I don't like grits, but from the people that do, they say these are the best. You have to get there really early for them because they always run out. There's not too much for dieters, here. No skim milk for your coffee or diet mayo for your sandwhich.

Now, on to the atmosphere, service and staff:

First of all, the average age of the customers is about 85. Okay, maybe that's an exaggeration, but the crowd is mostly elderly. There's no hostess to seat you, just find a place & sit. When you are finished, you have to go to the register to pay. Don't forget to leave a tip on the table, though. Once you become a regular, everyone will greet you by name & have a genuine concern about how you are doing. That's the magic of this place. Maryann will have both sides of the conversation with you, I think for efficiency. It's hard to explain, but you'll know when it happens & have to smile to yourself. A previous review referred to one of the waitresses as, "Elsie." Her name is actually, "Elsa" & she is awesome. I love her sarcasm & the way she rolls her eyes at my husband's bad jokes. Nancy is another waitress & very sweet & efficient. Elsa & Nancy are both bilingual as are both of the busboys who will bring you your coffee the second you sit down & remember whether you like regular or decaf. Everyone is very polite. The tables & chairs need to be replaced, as well as some ceiling tiles. Even though it might not look like everything is clean, I think it is, it's just everything is very worn from use. The service can be hit or miss; so, don't come here when you are in a hurry.

So, give it a try, but be prepared. This isn't the place for snobs or other uppity folks. If you think you're a VIP, you should probably go somewhere else as no one is going to fawn all over you, here. Oh, & bring cash as they do not accept credit cards. $10 should more than cover breakfast or lunch for 2. If it's the weekend around noon, I'll probably see you there.

MY REVIEW: I love this place, as it is simply good cheap breakfast. Other diners have gotten so expensive, this place keeps it real. service is not always good when they are slammed, but you get the same thing in more expensive places.

one very important thing to keep in mind when going there is that they only accept cash. period. and it's a good thing they are cheap because I wouldn't have been able to pay for my first meal there!

MY REVIEW: A little visit to Mayberry in the middle of the big city. The waitresses here are very friendly, they ask about each customer and get to know those who come back.

A great little place to stop in for breakfast, lunch or a coffee...it feels like the coffee shops I remember visiting with my Grandmother.

Thier prices are incredibly low....and a nice respite from mega corporate restaurants and coffee shops. Check thier open hours/days they do have short hours.

An unsolicited note for the staff:
Do bring cash....and tip the waitresses well....they are real grownups with families to support and this is thier career.

MY REVIEW: I have waited for years to visit this coffee shop. People all over town have raived about how great it was. Imagine my disappointment with a cold cup of coffee, wrong food served, the waitress arguing with me that I didn't know what I had ordered and then finding the correct order sheet. Never got the complete meal and was never asked if there was anything else I needed and if everthing was ok. Overcharged over $2.00 more then the breakfast. This girl was too busy flirting with the regulars to pay attention to the potentials. I would have to think long and hard about going back to this location for any meal. Not the service expected.

What are folks bragging about!!

MY REVIEW: One the best no frills breakfast in town. Cheap fast and very good.

No ambiance. Lunch is not good. But for breakfast it's the best. Great service especially if Elsie waits on you
