MY REVIEW: This was our First visit to Udipi. We had our two children who are picky eaters and have never shown a real interest in spice. Our waiter was wonderful! He engaged with us and our children, suggested a perfect dish for our smallest child which she loved! He also gave us samples of the soup of the day, Amazing! We are not vegetarians but our eldest is striving to become one, this place is wonderful! It is quiet and a little warm inside the store tho seems that way at a great deal of places hitting 100 degrees most days, but the mango shakes will cool you off! Give yourself and your wallet a break! Udipi is awesome and it also has a lunch buffet for only 7.99, you can't hardly beat that!

MY REVIEW: The staff is not that much capable. Once I visited Udipi cafe with my visitors and I wanted to pay for them and I gave my credit card to Mr. Satish (Owner, Udipi Cafe) at the arrival because i didn't wanted my visitors to pay. Mr. Satish never charged the card and kept it over there. Finally my visitors paid and i was really in shame. It seems that all this small Indian restaurants have no knowledge of skills, customer services, No professionalized attituted. They even don't know when a person gives them a credit card they should charge that and give it back smartly. May be its time for them to visit some big restaurants. Really Sad.

MY REVIEW: I have eating experience of 39 years. I heard out of three Udipi restaurants, Katy branch is good. I went all the way from Cypress to Katy just for this restaurant today for lunch promising my family that I would take them to a better place. If you know anything about Indian food, this is not the right place for you. The buffet price $9.99 may look cheaper, but the food is not ever that worth. Vada is stong enough, Dosa is sticky enough, Kootu: they shaouldn't be knowing what it is, Other few curries: they just add some spices with a lot of butter and a little vegetables like bell pepper. You cannot make out the difference between the curries because everything is very dark & spicy. The lentil (Dhaal) is definitely not fresh, that too so salt nothing. Pappad, they only serve on demand. Don't even think of tasting the sweet. I don't sugget this food for kids. We had lunch there today, not feeling to have dinner tonight. I don't have anything against this restaurant, just wanted share my experience. Then left to your choice.

MY REVIEW: So happy to have a vegetarian place to eat in Katy, for it to be Indian is utterly amazing! We loved the service, super polite, the food came out fast and beautiful! We had the samosas, royal thali, and aloo palack. Everything was very well spiced and flavorful.
We will be back for the buffet!

MY REVIEW: I went here recently after an absence of about six months... it was a major disappointment. The wait staff from earlier this year was no longer there - in fact, there was only one person covering the whole place during lunch. To make matters worse, I arrived about 11:30 - and the buffet had vacancies which did not get filled until after noon. The food was unremarkable except for a lentil curry which was nice. I sure hope they bounce back to their previous glory... I'll give them one more chance.

MY REVIEW: First visit was last night. I am veg but have been avoiding the restaurant because my husband loves to eat chicken based Indian food. He conceded to go with me last night. The food was awesome. He even loved the vegetarian food.
We had samosas, potato dumplings, lentil donuts, naan, manchurian cauliflower and vegetable korma. Everything was wonderfully flavored. Prices were great and we left with enough food for 2-3 other meals.

MY REVIEW: A good south indian restaurant. I am non-vegetarian but I dont mind going to Udipi again and again becuase I enjoy everytime. Mainly south Indian food but there are always 1 or 2 North Indian items also.
Taste and service is good. The place is very clean and well kept.
My favourite are Mysore Masala Dosa which comes with the buffet. After you have food, do try the "Masala Chai". The tea tastes like a typical "Darshani Chai" in Bangalore.

MY REVIEW: This is better than your average Indian buffet. I (vegetarian) and a friend (carnivore) both enjoyed this food. The experience took me back to my visit to India. I love Indian food and Udipi did not disappoint. Our server made us feel like welcomed relatives. I highly recommend this restaurant.
I have issues with wheat. All the bread and dishes are wheat free and delicious. I recommend this restaurant highly. There are few places where I can eat everything. This is one where I can.

MY REVIEW: We love experiencing various ethnic food and chose this place after reading reviews. We had the lunch buffet ($6.99 [weekend is $7.99]). Food was flavorful, people there were very nice and helpful, everything was clean and neat. We enjoyed the experience and will tell our friends to try!

MY REVIEW: I always like the food but lately I've been feeling hungry after I leave this place sometimes. I know its a vegetarian restaurant but I would feel more satisfied if they had meat. Most of their food is good but the dosa always seems soggy. the fluffy bread is really good and the variety of curries they have are good. I think their biriyani is kinda bland though. and their lassi should be a bit more sweet ...at least that's my opinion.

MY REVIEW: First of all, I am South-Indian but I was raised in Texas; I am not familiar with all the names of the various dishes. I am usually a carnivore but the thick and tasty vegetable dishes you can get here are really filling!
Southern Indian food is not strictly vegetarian but this Cafe only provides vegetarian dishes.
When I went, I tried most of the dishes. The eggplant dish was a little too oily. I loved the dosas and vadas (indian doughnuts :) )The green and red chutneys for the vadas were equally tasty.
The paneer was ok, it wasn't really spicy; in fact, for me nothing was really too spicy or too hot. I liked only the yellowish payasam they had, not the rice yogurt for dessert. (Although I prefer my payasam room temperature, not hot).
We went around 2pm for lunch buffet so there was only 1 other family there. The waitstaff were courteous and cleared our used plates promptly.
I think the price for buffet $7.99 is reasonable but when we tried to take a buffet to-go they charged an additional $1 for the styrofoam plate which I thought was stupid. The ambience was not a factor for me. The cafe was clean.
I would definitely go again, because I like the food and it keeps me away from meat once in a while.
I appreciate the location as well, because Indian restaurants are few and far between on the North side of Houston.

MY REVIEW: I had heard about Udipi for years but never remembered it when I was in the mood for Indian food. Recently I stumbled upon the one in Sugar Land and decided to try it and since then I’ve been back, 4 times in all, to that location and the one on Hillcroft. Both restaurants are nice inside; the Hillcroft one in particular is much nicer than one might expect from the exterior.
I’ve had the weekday lunch buffet for $7.99, a very good bargain and much better than the one down the street on Hillcroft. The only thing I wasn’t impressed with much was the iddly, the steamed, flying saucer shaped bun made from fermented rice and black lentil, but the iddly fry, wedges of iddly fried like french fries, is much better. I also love the lentil donuts and the various pakora, especially the ones with chili pepper strips, although I wish they were fried a little crispier. I really enjoyed the vegetable biryani, baigan bartha, mushroom masala (a very meaty tasting dish), and vegetable koorma. It’s very nice that almost everything has been clearly labeled both in Indian and with English translations on the buffet.
They bring out a freshly prepared and generously sized dosa of your choice from an extensive selection. You might want to study the menu online before going to get an idea of your choices.
I went once on a weekend and ordered off the regular menu. The mixed vegetable pakora appetizer was way too much for an appetizer, could have been a meal in itself. I also had the Uthappam deluxe, a huge Indian pancake, made again with the fermented rice, black lentil dough, I think, served with a cup of soup and chutney of your choice. Between the two I had way too much food - the pancake alone would have been enough, also.
The only dessert I’ve tried is the Sheera and it was very good, although I could manage only a small portion.

MY REVIEW: I love the food here. I suggest there Palak paneer (spinach and cheese) with the rice. It's just yummy. If you're a fan of dosa then they have good dosas here....I prefer the paper dosas because they are crispy and I like my dosa crispy. I don't think I've been dissapointed with any item here. The only thing that I'm not fond of is the some of the yellow paint on the walls. Other than that the place is really clean, good atmosphere, friendly staff. Oh and Ali (who is the owner or manager) goes out of his way to make sure everyone is taken care of. This place is a delight.

MY REVIEW: We visited this restaurant last weekend. Luch Buffet was $9.99
Pros: This restaurant has good ambience. The food is excellent.
Cons: The price should be reduced to $7.99 weekends and $6.99 weekdays. The items could be reduced as well! That will bring in more people, especially in this economy!
Two things could be improved: (1)Floors can be maintained neater (2) The waiter could ask the customer before removing plates. My Dosa was half-eaten and by the time i went to get Chutney, someone had removed my plate without asking! Staff require more training i guess!
Yes, i will definitely come back for more Udupi food!
