The amount of salt was unbelievable. $12.94 for smothered steak (awful meat/good gravy), 2 sides and 2 (1 extra) corn bread muffins. Nothing to drink. I think I was charged for a LARGE plate but got small plate. NEVER AGAIN will I go there. The oxtails were swimming in grease, the mac and cheese tasted like rubber with spoiled cheese, the chitterlings smelled unclean. I spent $23.00 for (2) and will never visit again. I have visited 4-6 times hoping that the cook was just having a bad day. Not the case. There food is consistantly awful, bad, horrible. Bad tasting food all running together in a container. Yuk!!! If you are in the area and want soul food, I would check it out. I would pass up other restaurants to get here though. I have visited this restaurant about 3 times. While the food is good and better than fast food, it is not the best in Houston (by no means). The food is OVERPRICED, but you do get a nice size portion and a friendly smile. Steam table service lets you see what you are having! The gumbo is great (served on Fridays only). However, like most soul-food restaurants the fat content is off the scale!!! Not a diet place AT ALL. (The main reason I don't eat there more often.) Homemade-style cakes are not super-rich, more like an upgraded cake mix, but tasty! The only other problem is that they are really a lunch place. They close at 6:00 pm! But the food is good and inexpensive....
