Mosquito Cafe

MY REVIEW: My friends and I got there for brunch on Sunday, May the 22nd. The man behind the register could not have seemed less interested - the whole time we ordered, he was looking over in the far corner of the room, and acted as if we were interrupting him from something. The inside dining area was packed as it normally is, so we took a seat outside on the patio area. There were birds all over the vacated tables eating out of the plates left behind by departed customers. When someone did come and clean up the half-eaten plates of food, they made no effort to wipe off the tables, and we saw the birds peck the food off the plate onto the tables and eat it off there. We waited over 45 minutes for our food, and one of our party had to go ask where it was. By this time the crowd had died down, and we couldn't understand why it took so long since none of us ordered anything difficult.
We had been to Mosquito Cafe several times before Hurricane Ike, and this was our first visit since the hurricane. We will definitely not be in a hurry to return. The food was good, but certainly not worth the attitude, wildlife, and long wait we experiences.

MY REVIEW: Great place , everything is fresh and tasty. I was disappointed that the Island Benedict was no longer on the Sunday breakfast menu. So I went back a little later for lunch fantastic as usual.

MY REVIEW: What a wonderful place for lunch! A group of eight (8) of us went yesterday and it was a pleasure. I got the Southwest Burger and it was wonderful. The burger itself was just okay but the green chilie topping ROCKED! And how did they get good tomatoes this time of year? Everyone was pleased with their food.

MY REVIEW: By far my favorite restaurant in the Houston-Galveston area! I usually make a stop there after hitting the beach. It's difficult to describe the style of food under which they'd be categorized, but the one thing I do know is that it's pretty darn tasty...and a lot of healthy choices, too. They have a set menu and a chalkboard with the sides they're offering that day at the front. Check out their website and download their menu to get an idea of what they offer. One thing to note: this isn't a $5 lunch at M*cDonalds...I tend to spend $12-$20 per visit, depending on what I get, and whether I go for lunch or for dinner. It's well worth it, though...my favorite is the Turkey Divinity sandwich.

MY REVIEW: Went for Valentines Day dinner...and now my husband and I are making it a tradition. Mosquito changed their normal "order at the counter" format to being seated and waited on, and it was lovely. They offered complimentary champagne and their island famous crostinis. It was a set menu and I had the shrimp bisque which was amazing, the filet was cooked to perfection, and for dessert I had a warm peach cobbler, so delicious. My husband had the mixed grill and raved about their homemade sausage and marinara sauce. The atmosphere was really soothing and turned out to be a fantastic evening.

MY REVIEW: This was my first visit to Mosquito. I was with my girlfriend, who had been before. She kept raving about the cafe, so we went. It's a casual place, meaning you order at the counter and they bring the food to your table. I ordered the quesadillas, which was listed as a daily special. My girl had the salad with baked goat cheese. I was thoroughly impressed with the quality and freshness of the food. The flavors were perfect and bold. I was more impressed with what I saw on the plates of other customers. There was some beautiful food being served! I can't wait to go back to Galveston so I can eat at Mosquito again.

MY REVIEW: since re-opening, the menu has gotten super small, most of my favorites are gone = sadness. the roasted potatoes, as a side, were a greasy nightmare - which made me wonder if the breakfast potatoes had been recycled. although the sauces in the thai chicken salad were excellent, the salad was missing key ingredients (cilantro & scallions). I know many Galvestonians have gone thru alot, but opening up before you are ready may lead to huge customer disappointments. The "live" music played -on a saturday night - by a lovely elderly lady sounded more like it belonged at the Lowrey organ center in the mall. Such a shame to see such a previously excellent food venue go by the wayside, in my book.

MY REVIEW: My partner and I went to Galveston for a long weekend and ran into the owner of Mosquito Cafe who invited us for breakfast. WOW, we just LOVED IT!! SO much so we went back again on Sunday morning and really enjoyed a beautiful morning out on the patio. The food is fantastic, portions huge and the coffee was great! Not to mention all the nice people enjoying a beautiful morning together. HIGHLY recommended!!! Can't wait to go back!

MY REVIEW: This is definitely my favorite restaurant in Galveston. My girlfriend and I found this jewel over the past summer and have been back every time we go to Galveston. Many of their items are very unique, which is a nice changeup from the rest of the choices in the area.
Other positive things we liked - dog friendly, creative weekly specials, excellent ambiance.

MY REVIEW: Strong Points: Daily Specials, Deserts, Regular and Flavored Iced Tea
Weak Points: Parking
This is a small place located near the The Grand Opera House. We went for dinner before a show. The regular menu consists of burgers, sandwiches and pastas. The daily specials contain chicken, fish, pork and veggie specials. The daily specials are where the chef gets creative. I had the chicken special which was a breast of chicken stuffed with ham and covered in a cream sauce. It was perfectly cooked moist and delicious. The sides were grilled polenta and a veggie melody. The dressing on the house salad was the best. This a great restaurant filled with locals not a chain restaurant filled with tourists. Give it a try if you have plans to go to the Grand Opera House.

MY REVIEW: Wow, this place really has some challenges. I've been loyal to this wonderful restaurant for years, but I am now starting to wonder if the new owners really have a grip on the business. Most regulars I know all have suffered through the long line just to get our order in. But this Sunday was the longest line ever. We waited for 30 minutes just to have the owner himself complain about customers lingering over their meal, to us, while we were standing in line. How unprofessional. Sometimes I feel like the customer service is the last thing on his mind... Thank god the wait staff is always courteous and helpful and knows what good customer service means!

MY REVIEW: We went to dinner on a Saturday night and sat outside in the garden area. We both had the blue plate special; mine meat loaf with mash potatoes and peas and his the king ranch casserole with beans and rice. Each entree was $7.00 - $8.00 and they both were very good. Topped it off with a brownie; again good. I do like it that they serve a brewed decaf ice tea. Always friendly service. Will definitly go back.

MY REVIEW: There's nothing to complain about at Mosquito. They have the best veggie burger I've ever tasted. It's so original. The regular burgers are also good. If you get a sandwich, try their pasta salad as a side. It's a hearty pesto pasta with whole pine nuts and artichoke hearts. They serve great coffee (lots of variety). Breakfast is also good. I had the veggie omelet, and the vegetables were very generous. I recommend going on a mild morning and sitting outside on the patio. Very nice experience.
