MY REVIEW: Ordered a chicken salad sandwich to go. Got back to the office and opened the sandwich box--the sandwich was about 1" thick, half was lettuce; the chicken salad was about as thick as you would spread mayonnaise. But the bread was so wet from the runny salad, that it fell part when I tried to take it out of the box. Called to explain the problem to the owner-she said I waited too long to eat the sandwich-I shouldn't have ordered it to go. I work 2 blocks from the place. I will NEVER go again.

MY REVIEW: With all due respect to "KatyCakeLover", who wrote about Acadian Bakery's King Cakes in a review noted elsewhere on this page, if she honestly felt that Acadian Bakery's King Cakes were actually anything beyond mediocre, she's either from Northern Louisiana or hasn't had a real King Cake in a long, long time.
I'll start w/ the positives: the ordering of the King Cake was easy. The lady who took my order was pleasant. The King Cake LOOKS beautiful.
Now on the negatives: The KING (not KINGS) cake is terribly disappointing . It's simply a rather dry cinnamon roll. I picked my King Cake up w/in hours of it being baked, and believe me, it's dry. The base cinnamon cake itself tastes absolutely no different than what you'd get at Kroger or Randalls... and given that you'll pay a minimum of $26 for it (that's right, $26!), it's a rip off no matter how you slice it.
Frankly, the only appealing aspect is it's visuals. It's looks great.
But let me let you in on a little secret. A "real" King Cake would taste like a King Cake even if it was plain - no purple, green, and gold sugar or icing, no filling, etc. If you close you eyes, bite into it, and can't tell if it's a true New Orleans King Cake, than it's not. Simple as that.
Houston really only has 1 option as far as King Cakes go - and that's W*hole Foods. For $11 they offer a decent King Cake... at least there's no preservatives in theirs. But Acadian Bakery's $26 'King Cake' is a rip off no matter how you slice it. It's truly a better value to pay $45 - 50 and have one shipped from New Orleans (ie Manny R*andazzo's are my favorite, though H*aydel's is pretty good too).

MY REVIEW: I ordered a white chocolate cake for my dad's birthday and told them I would pick it up between 12 and 12:30 on Saturday. (they close at 2) I got there at 12:30 (owner was rude when I went to the wrong side) 5 minutes later they finally came out on the right side and asked to help us, they could not find my cake, they then proceeded to look through all the orders and found mine. Next they placed a call, and said it should be ready in about 15 minutes, so we waited. 40 minutes later a man comes out and says im going to get your cake!! and pulls off in a van (where the heck are the cakes made), ok so 15 minutes from then the guy comes back with the cake. So after waiting an hour, they only gave us $3 off. The owner was there and aware of the situation never explained, never apologized, nothing. On top of that the cake was ok however it just tasted like wedding cake, there was nothing white chocolate about it! Very disappointed, will never step foot in there again!!! Then when we were leaving another lady was picking up a cake that was not there either!!!

MY REVIEW: I have attended many parties and also worked for several companies that have gotten their cakes from Acadian Bakers. The cakes are always very good and aesthetically pleasing.
Strong Points - the cakes are very good. While most of the negative aspects of the previous reviews indicate bad customer service or odd tiramisu recipes, no one has ever indicated that the actual quality of the cakes was bad. My personal experience (including my 2 daughters’ numerous birthdays and all the major holidays that I purchase cakes for) has always been that the cakes are worth the price for the consistently exceptional quality.
Weak points - I have experienced during several transactions with the owner (similar to the main complaint from many other reviewers) that she just doesn’t seem to care. I understand that baking cakes is not rocket science, but I would expect that someone who has been in business this long would have learned some tact or at least learned how to take good notes or fake showing interest in what her paying customers are telling her. I have no complaints with the quality of the cakes, just the attitude of the owner.
I am always very descriptive with the design I want. I always bring a picture of what I want the cake to look like, or a printout of her own web site picture for the special festive cakes she promotes on the internet. I am always a little concerned when she barely writes down anything on the order slip, or just says “uh huh. Sure. No problem” over the phone when I place the order. I always get the inevitable call from her 1-3 days before the cake is supposed to be ready asking me to clarify what I want. She just doesn’t seem to communicate or understand descriptions or instructions very well. I ALWAYS have to make an extra trip down to the bakery to explain the picture or the intent of the cake design in person. The owner seems very proud and any communication beyond the initial order and the credit card number is more of an argument to prove that you do know what you want in the cake and that the picture really is what you want the cake to look like. Duh! Why else would someone give you a picture of a cake? Even after speaking (arguing) with her, I am never truly convinced that she actually understands what the cake is supposed to look like or if she will really be able to do what she promises she can.
Summary - With a lot of effort on my part to track what her understanding of my order (even ones that are her own specials) my cakes have always come out very well. If the cakes didn’t taste so good and get so many compliments from the people that I invite to my parties, I most definitely would not be a customer. I have yet to find a bakery that produces a consistently good product with consistently good customer service.

MY REVIEW: I gave Acadian a try for my Daughter 20th Birthday. I was told to try their signature cake which is the brownie chocolate mousse It was absolutely delicious and picked up a kings cake while I was there (which I hadn't even ordered but just asked if their was an extra hanging around and their was ,,,,:))and some cookies. I have to say I was impressed with everything especially the KINGS CAKE. I order our Kings Cakes every year from New Orleans (which I Thought was the best) Acadian you totally suprised me ! It was fantastic and then some! most of my friends are big foodies like me and big critics, well let me tell you something that cream cheese with raspberry Kings cake was the BOMBOLAAA!!!!
I happen to meet the owner while I was there she was extremely nice and even carried out all of my boxes to the car with me. Im sorry but how often do you go to an establishment that is very busy like Acadian and the owner carries your things to the car..... Acadian you have a new customer and since then I have told everybody about you and cant wait to try some more of your goodies . I did notice alot of negative reviews ,I am so glad I didn't see the reviews before I went because I would have never tried it . All I have to say to the bad reviews give it another try guys it really is good.
p.s. next time I will definetly try their lemon glazed loaf and lunch for sure it smelled soooo good!

MY REVIEW: I HIGHLY recommend Acadian Bakers... I ordered a cake from another bakery a month before my parents' 50th Wedding Anniversary. On the Wednesday before the event, I called to confirm and she had forgotten my event. I panicked!
A coworker suggested I call Acadian Bakers, so I did. Even though they were booked for that Saturday, they accommodated us VERY well and were totally professional while doing it. The cake was a total hit!
Thank you, Acadian Bakers... you made my nightmare into a DREAM!

MY REVIEW: The cakes taste good, but beware the RUDE owner. I got my wedding cakes here and felt like I was arguing with her to get what I wanted. I wanted a simple, 5 sided flower piped onto the bride's cake, and she told me on several occasions that I should go to a florist to get them instead. She was always short with me and distracted (friends and customers interrupted two of my appointments) as if she had something better to do. That's probably why I had to reiterate my instructions several times. What I should have done was go to another bakery. Although the groom's cake turned out nicely, the bride's cake had the wrong colors on it. When I say differenct colors, I mean different colors and not a different shade of a color. Not sure how you make that mistake when they have color swatches and instructions (which I thought would be helpful and reduce confusion). Although the cakes taste good, I will NEVER work with that owner again. If you decide to get a cake there, bring a picture and specific instructions for what you want. You might be lucky and get the cake you want.

MY REVIEW: I needed a last minute birthday cake and didnt want to get one from a grocery store. Found Acadian online and decided to give them a try even though some reviews were negative. The good thing about them was their turn around time for a cake. I placed the order right before closing and my cake was ready by 11am the next morning. Most bakeries require at least 24hr notice if not more. With that said, on to the disappointment. Like many other reviews, it is warned that Acadian's version of a tiramisu is completely different then what we're use to. This is the only kind of cake my husband likes so it was a real disappointment to cut into the cake and saw that it was basically a chocolate batter with cream in between. I even asked the girl when placing the order if it was chocolate cake inside. She assured me it wasnt. Boy was she wrong! It was really embarrasing when I noticed my guests poking at it trying to figure what kind of cake it was. It didnt taste too bad but noone even finished their piece since they're not a fan of chocolate. I called the next day and asked if there was a mistake and was told "thats our tiramisu". Ok-whatever, not ordering here again unless they let me cut into the cake before purchasing.

MY REVIEW: Most of my experience with Acadian was eating the cakes that got delivered to our office parties. They are always delicious, but I had my first dealings with them myself last week. I had to pick up a cake for my friend's baby shower. My friend had ordered the cake over the phone and had repeatedly told them, and meticulously spelled, repeatedly, the message for the cake: "In anticipation" of their baby. When I picked up the cake it read "Nin, anticilation." I'm not sure what language they think that's correct in. Anyway, I noticed they served lunch so tried them for that. I had their trio salad of chicken salad, tuna salad, and egg salad. The chicken and tuna were superb, the egg salad was lacking. I bought a couple cookies to go with it and they were both so-so. My husband got the cheeseburger, and it was divine. The bun was slightly sweet and toasted, and the seasonings were just right. I'll be back for more of that.

MY REVIEW: I ordered a cake based on the recommendation of a friend, and will never do it again. I asked for a Tiramisu cake, but got a plain chocolate cake instead. When I called to complain about it, they insisted it was their version of a tiramisu and were extremely rude about it. I guess all 20 of my guests were confused because we all thought it was a plain chocolate cake! I will never go back to this place.
