MY REVIEW: I started eating at Carl's after having it served up at the gun range. I never have encountered the rude employees. The food, especially the sausage and the hot potato salad is to die for. I think my chocolate pie is better, but it wasn't bad. This place is worth the drive and the cost of gas. The hamburgers aren't bad either. I always have my food as take out, and there has never been a problem with the order. This is my new best bbq place.

MY REVIEW: Fifteen years is how long I've been going to Carl's. Only once was a cashier rude to me (disagreement over a coupon). The people behind the counter have been there for years and are always friendly. Service (as long as you order bbq) is super fast and accurate. Food quality and portion is excellent. If you have any problems, ask for Carl, he's there a lot and a heck of a nice guy.

MY REVIEW: This place is my favorite place for BBQ. The sauce is delicious and sweet and reminds me of baked beans, the hot baked potato salad is to die for, and they're always friendly and accomodating. Great work Carl's!

MY REVIEW: I think this place is AWESOME! I ordered something for my party and everything was on time and delicious!!! Also, I did not have to worry about ANYTHING! They had everything for me, from spoons, to ice, to napkins...everything!!!! The place is also great to go and sit and eat, the food and staff are EXCELLENT!!!

MY REVIEW: This place has gone down hill. Brisket taste's like it came out of a oven, not a pit. The meat was dry and the servings are small. Don't order the sausage either, it's full of fat filler, not meat.

MY REVIEW: i have never been inside Carl's BBQ as my father always brings it home. i can't speak for the friendliness of staff. my father is the one that fetches BBQ from there and he has never complained. as far as the BBQ i think its great ! its tender and juicy and compared to the other places we get BBQ from its the best i've had.

MY REVIEW: We been there a time or two. It's not very friendly of places. This time as well of last couple of times the meat was very dry. They do need to work on the taste of the bbq sauce.

MY REVIEW: We have visited Carl's 6-8 times over the last 5 years. Our first few visits we thought the food was great, but since the quality has declined. We keep hoping it will get better. I too am turned off by the less-than-Texas-friendly staff. (Do they really expect a tip at a cafeteria line?). They seem to do a steady business. But there are other BBQ joints 5-10 minutes away. L*yndons at Hollister comes to mind & is far better. Maybe we will give it one more try in the future to see if it improves.

MY REVIEW: The food was okay. The service was almost too fast. They don't give you time to overlook the menu. Being rushed and yelled at is not customer service. Are these employees trained about representation, courtesy, customer service? It has a cafeteria amostphere. Don't compromise your customers Carl!

MY REVIEW: Although I eat there weekly, nobody knows my name. This site doesn't have a button for that. It is close to us, good BBQ in an area almost completely devoid of such, and has had a long series of very rude cashiers (so don't feel special). Of course I never tip them. :) Growing up in the BBQ biz, I suspect many of them are Carl's relatives. Lots of family businesses prefer relatives to work the cash register for obvious reasons. It is a shame they are rude, as that is un-Texan. My family would be horrified. I don't consider the Mexicans behind the counter rude - they are just working hard.

MY REVIEW: As for the quality of the barbeque, it is the best in the area! We get the family pack to go...both quality and quantity are outstanding! Others may prefer the greasy and fat ladened BBQ of area restaurants; my family enjoys the quality cuts from Carls! Rude cashiers...maybe, because they are trying to keep the line moving, so waffling patrons don't keep the line from backing up! Five years of good BBQ (best ribs and briskets in the world) will keep us coming back!

MY REVIEW: I really don't beleive I have anything good to say about Carls at this time. Everything is going down hill. The food has been on the verge of cold or old sitting under the lights and the sauce is very watered down. We use to go there monthly for our meetings and have since found a little down home BBQ resturant off of Grant that surpass all other BBQ meals around. You should give A*J's BBQ at Lakewood/Grant a chance-I swear you will never good back after you tried their pulled pork, ribs and awsome sauce. Sorry Carl's but the quality is just to low to be spending my money there.

MY REVIEW: The previous reviews are correct...the lady at the cash regisyer is always rude. We have found a new place to go on hwy 6 at 290. We will not be spending our money at Carl's again.

MY REVIEW: Carl's strong point would be portion sizes (adequate). I do not particularly care for the "watered down" sauce. Ambiance? What's up with that gimp cat on the back porch? Inside is typical Texas BBQ joint - Western Deco mixed with a touch of Early American Poverty.

MY REVIEW: I guess things have gone downhill. The food was mediocre at best. BBQ sause has heavy ketchup flavor. Service poor and unfriendly. I used to eat at Carls Backporch where you could get a bucket of cold beer and take your time eating and relaxing but, this place limits the beer and seems to want you to rush your meal and leave. All in all I will probably find a new BBQ place.

MY REVIEW: I have been going to this place for the last 12 years or so, probably 300-400 times. The Slovacek sausage is one of a kind. Everytime I visit my folks, who live in Cypress, we always eat there. It has the small town feel, and they have never tried to impress anyone there. You either like the food, service, and atmosphere, or you live in the city. It has not changed in 12 years, and that is the way I love it. Sticking to the roots is something that does not happen in this day in age. I hope they never change, here's to 300 more visits.

MY REVIEW: I ordered the sliced brisket plate with green beans & potato salad. BBQ was average & the BBQ sauce needed a little more flavor. I wasn't too impressed.

MY REVIEW: HORRIBLE SERVICE--I have been to Carl's twice. The first time was with my wife, and she will never eat there again because of the rude lady at the cash register talked to us like we were dumb because we never had eaten there before. Against better judgement, I order food to-go for a large party I was having. The order was completely wrong and they would do nothing to try and remedy the problem. The general manager blaimed me (THE CUSTOMER) for everything and was as rude as the lady from the first visit.

MY REVIEW: I have to agree with most people here the people here are just not nice. I don't understand the tip jar at this type of resteraunt anyway they get paid by the hour, I don't tip there and they don't like it, oh well. The problem is the food is pretty good most of the time, but I don't like the attitude that they have so I probably won't go back, I don't know if they realize there is a place at 290 and highway 6 with the same name as the county we live that have very nice people and better food, I wish more people start going to places like that instead of rewarding this rude behavior, I won't go there again.

MY REVIEW: Carl's has the atmosphere of a standard cafeteria line barbecue spot with lots of game heads, horns, and bodies on display. We tried the barbecue sausage and barbecue pork. Slovacek's jalapeno sausage is excellent - a bit hot, but not too much so. The pork loin was tender and well seasoned. The sauce was not; it tastes, as does G*oode Company's sauce, of canned tomato soup concentrate. The main flavor was sugar. As for sides, we had only potato salad, which seemed to be a standard canned/tub variety. Gosh, we wish for the real thing.

The staff was neither welcoming nor non-welcoming. Restrooms were clean. During our 40 minute visit, we saw at least ten people come in for large to-go orders.

MY REVIEW: My mom lives in Cypress, and we go to Carl's whenever I visit. I just love the place! I have never noticed the staff to be rude, the portions are just right, and the burgers are delicious. I like the atomospehre, and the place is clean. My mom thinks I come to Cypress to see her! LOL!

MY REVIEW: I enjoy Carl's BBQ and have for a very long time. I went to school with the owner's daughter. Do you know how hard it is to find good friendly help? Are you suppose to tip for take-out? I'm sure if you smelled BBQ all day long for a while and dealt with some unusal requests you too would not be so pleasant either. Have a great day and enjoy your BBQ!!!

MY REVIEW: I loved Carl's!! It's one of my friend's (who I was visiting in Houston) favorite places. I didn't encounter the crabby employees the other reviews spoke of, and I thought the atmosphere was great. Other people must have thought the same thing because it was packed when I was there. The food was delicious and I heard rave reviews about the "Chow Down." I'd certainly go back to Carl's again!

MY REVIEW: The ribs are "pretty" good. The side veggies usually appear dried out. And yes I agree, very rude staff, starting with the servers right down to the cashier.

Go up to 1960 and HWY 290 for better and fresher food, with a alot friendly staff. And a few minutes further off 290, veer off of Gessner and eat at the R*ailroad Crossing BBQUE. Very friendly staff there, as well!
