Picnic

MY REVIEW: Picnic used to be a fabulous lunch spot. Now, it has been transformed into a trash dump. Papers, trash, bags of chips on the floor, tables filthy and no napkins to clean the tables. Today, I asked for napkins to clean off a table, the help told me there were napkins, not so, finally gave me some napkins and I cleaned my table. Don't plan to go back anytime soon. There are enough other cute, good lunch spots in Houston.

MY REVIEW: This place is wonderful -- I've never had a bad experience. Soups, salads, sandwiches, etc. I really like the chicken salad and the egg and olive salad. You can get them alone or on a sandwich. It can get crowded around noon, so go earlier or later.

MY REVIEW: I happened upon Picnic by needing to take a detour because of traffic. I was drawn by their colorful sign. I selected a turkey and avocado boxed lunch. The sandwich was served extremely fresh on homemade wheat bread. The oatmeal cookie that came with the lunch was wonderful--generous, light and crispy. For later, I purchased spiced pecans, jalepeno cornbread and pimento cheese spread. Everything was excellent. The service was brusque--even slightly unfriendly--yet fast. I was there about 11:30. They were not busy and appeared to have a full staff--about three people behind the counter and I could see several staff in the kitchen area. Despite the service, I plan to return to Picnic again because the food is excellent. I live and work on the north end, yet I will make the drive with plans to eventually work my way through their entire menu.

MY REVIEW: I keep having cravings for the chicken salad. Nice little place. Nothing fancy. More quirky, but cute. I've tried the chicken salad sandwich and one of their salads. I like the sandwich better. The salad was a little too "field green mix" for my taste, but still a decent lunch. I'll be back
