MY REVIEW: Ate the buffet. There is no service but people at payment counter were nice. Water was in igloo coolers which is nice touch. Food was pretty good for price. You don't have to eat the buffet though. Most people I saw were eating dosas. I ordered a plate of pakoras also and for 3.50 I was expecting just a little bit but when it came out, it was pretty big. Next time I think I'll be ordering from the menu instead of eating the buffet.

MY REVIEW: Excellent mango and sweet lassi.
Other than the lassis, we did not special order anything, just had the buffet. It may be that we are not used to the Udupi cuisine which doesn't use onions or garlic, but unless there was some great subtlety I missed, it was pretty bland.
Several dishes were greasy. Naan was a bit overdone and hard. The saag paneer was all saag and no paneer. My wife managed to find one piece by scooping through the serving dish for awhile.

MY REVIEW: All I can say is,"what happened?" We have been eating here for years.Sure there have been a few times it was cold,or not as good as usual.Last night, after we paid we proceeded to the buffett. It was beyond bad.Salad bar had old lettuce, very brown with n cucumbers or Tomatoes. The Sag paneer was a hard green paste. The other dishes were just potatoes. The rice looked like it was so old,it had lost its shape. The Naan so stale and hard I could snap it.All was so cold. For the first time ever, anywhere,we walked out.I only wish we would have looked before paying.I cant believe they would not be ashamed to leave such old, cold food out.

MY REVIEW: A real Indian dining experience--the service appears more absent-minded than organized, but good-natured and instructive of patience. The prices could hardly be better, and selective grazing of the buffet makes a healthy vegetarian meal. More vegetables would be welcome, and the dal is thin, but the latter is authentically reminiscent of South Asian convenience dining. Another note of Indian charm: the absence of a simple water tap is potentially exasperating, but then the availability of water from Igloo coolers is disarming. Recommended for quality / cost ratio, the sweet family of owners and managers, and the diverse clientele.

MY REVIEW: Absolutely one of the best vegetarian lunch places in Houston. Incredible vegetarian Indian lunch buffet for $6.50. Two kinds of rice, 5 different dishes, saag paneer & naan. Everything I tried was wonderful. It's delicious and ridiculously inexpensive for the quality of the food.

MY REVIEW: The food is usually excellent and authentic, and there is a great variety that changes daily. I had my first undhiu here--delicious. Most of the food is really good. The only thing that is not is the saag paneer, but I have that complaint of every place but K*hyber. I used to be a little put off by the tip line on the credit card receipts, since there is no service to tip. But now they've taken that away totally, since you don't even have to sign under $10.
You can't beat this place for the price. Best of all, they stay open while many Indian places shut down for the afternoon, between 2 and 5 PM. I do agree that the naan is very filling but I find that to be true everywhere.

MY REVIEW: Great food with a humble ambience. I recommend the papdi chaat and the rose shake!!!
So much fun when they shout out "papdi chaat ready!"
Only drawback is that you might have to wait for a while for you order...not terribly organized!!!

MY REVIEW: I loved the selection, the taste is great, although it could be spicier! I love the way they scream Naan ready! The price is amazing and the food is fresh, what more could you ask for in a Vegetarian Indian buffet at $4.99!

MY REVIEW: This is the place for trying out indian sweets. That is what they're known for.. by the way, from a south asian who knows, never try meat at a south indian restaurant.

MY REVIEW: Bombay Sweets is for people who need to have something remotely Indian on a daily basis. No way is this place gourmet Indian cuisine. Good for students who need to have Indian food at a low low price.
I wouldn't eat there again

MY REVIEW: This is a bare bones place, where everyone seems to have their favorites... my 2 cents:
skip: the buffet and the chaat - the chaat is not good if you know your chaat
crave worthy: any of the south indian dishes that you order at the counter. YUM!

MY REVIEW: Never again. Food was awful not too mention the service was unacceptable! The place was dirty and I rather not go into further detail.

MY REVIEW: Great price....The tamarind chutney was my favorite dipping sauce and my favorite dishes where the potatoes with green beans, the the chickpea marsala and then spinach paneer; take into consideration that I don't like the spinach paneer that I have had elsewhere, I ate two servings. The lentals were flavored really well. Everything had it's own unique individual flavors.
I will be going back at least once a week....
Forgive my spelling

MY REVIEW: After seeing the reviews here, my gf and I decided to check the place out. You can't find cheap Indian anywhere inside the loop, so this seemed the next best choice. Now it's one of my favorites. It gets very crowded in there, but I've not yet had any trouble with lack of food in the buffet. Parking is a pain, but that's Houston for you.
The food tends to be mostly lentils, potatoes, and flour dumpling-type things whose name escapes me. However, they usually have at least one dish that is all vegetables, so it's not pure starch. We have limited ourselves to rare visits just to keep from gaining weight!
A word to the newcomer about something that fooled us the first time we went. After you order your buffet and sit down, they bring up your fresh-baked nan to the counter. You'll hear them call out "X naan" (X being the number of buffets you ordered) but they don't call your name or bring it to you. So listen sharp, because there's little service beyond the counter. It's basically an Indian M*cDonald's, only with edible food.

MY REVIEW: When I was trying to gain weight, I would eat at Bombay Sweets once a week or more. For five dollars, you can eat all you want from the tasty buffet which is kept reasonably fresh throughout the day. I like the hot naan they serve. The owning family is nice and the atmosphere can be lively, all the local Hilcroft folks and the Indian students from abroad.
After some time, however, I tired of the food there and realized you get what you pay for. How can they pull off such cheap food? Potatoes, canned chickpeas, rice and daal bought in bulk. You end up eating a huge amount of cheap starchy foods.
The actual chaat that you order from the counter (dahi vada, pani puri, etc) is not that great. Definitely visit the place once if you have not. Oh, and remember it is pure Indian vegetarian (no eggs or beef or pork or chicken).

MY REVIEW: Just came from there. Quite pleased that the food was even better and the choices greater than I remembered from my last visit a couple of years ago. Definitely not as spicy as a few places I've tried but very tasty and apparently not so Americanized that it's looked down upon by the local Indian populous.

MY REVIEW: A great, cheap Chaat (snack) place with good food. It reminds me of a typical Bombay chaat house- I missed chaat until I found this place! Very casual... the signs proclaiming "Do not share buffet" crack me up! Just stay away from the South Indian food though and stick with the North Indian fare.
I've had better samosas, but to me there's only one restaurant in the world with the absolute best samosas (K*amdar in Chicago, if you ever go). The bhel puri, pav bhaji, pani puri, and sweets are great for afternoon snacks, and the dinner buffet is pretty good. Basically it's inexpensive, typical, authentic food.

MY REVIEW: I don't know much about Indian cusine other than the fact that I like it very much and this restaurant is one of the primary reasons. The food is oh so good and plentiful. $4.50 for an all you can eat buffet that has many awesome choices. The only one that I have learned by name is the saag paneer, which is a real delight. The naan bread is light and fluffy and served hot. Very good restaurant with a friendly staff. I Highly recommend this place.

MY REVIEW: If you're looking for ambiance or decor - this is not the place; but if you're in the mood for some decent and really cheap indian food - you should check this place out... $4.50 for an all you can eat buffet including unlimited naan, saag paneer, utthapaam, other paneer dishes, mixed veggies, chole channa, etc... plus pilaf and plain rice.... You really can't beat the price. Def a place to bring the kids (if you're indian and looking for some "fast food")

MY REVIEW: The service is bad, takes a hell lot of time to bring the naan or chapati (indian bread) and its a buffet. Also, i think they add baking soda in naans or chapati that only after half naan you feel stuffed.
