MY REVIEW: This place is hopping and not a place to spend a quite dinner alone unless of course you get there before the crowd. The food is always great and the service has never let me down. If you are interested in a great value, go there during weekday lunch, great menu, outstanding prices and the same high caliber service. I have no problem recommending it to friends and have even been known to take a few and pick up the check in a moment of weakness. I have never heard of anyone being unhappy with this location, but given its volume, which is huge, I assume even Babin's is human every now and again.

MY REVIEW: The first time all 4 of us were pleased with the quality and quantity of the food. Not the second time. I ordered the crawfish etoufee and my mother-in law had the stuffed avocado w/ crawfish. She got twice the amount of crawfish for half the price of my etoufee. If you want crawfish, stay away from the etoufee.

MY REVIEW: It's crawfish time so we had to stop by Babin's (the coupon in the paper for a free lb. didn't hurt). They were on the smaller side, but very tasty and SPICY!. My Golden Tile was wonderful, but I could have eaten a piece twice the size. Service as always was impeccable. Food is always consistently good, portions seem to vary each trip.

MY REVIEW: After a 40-minute wait (busy Saturday afternoon) we were taken to our table which was surrounded by many (at least 50%) empty tables. Our order was taken fairly quickly but we didn't even get our salad for 45 minutes. Not only us but others had to ask for silverware (I heard a couple of waiters tell people that they were short of silverware!!). We got two fish dishes which were very good. One person got boiled crayfish which had no taste except for some spices that they had sprinkled on them. A child got the pizza which was probaly one of the worst pizzas I've ever tasted. I certainly would not go back and definitly not recommend this place to anyone.

MY REVIEW: This comment is to the previous comment made by NC. Okay, your crab balls took a longer time that your tea, b/c they actually have to COOK those. And yes when waitresses are busy, they get their fellow employees to help them out (by dropping a check, running food, even greeting a table). I mean seriously, maybe you should work in the service industry before you start complaining over ridiculous stuff. THANKS. 20% tip is STANDARD if your service is good. THANKS AND GIG EM!

MY REVIEW: In the past, the food was always great but this time it was not very good. We each had the flounder cooked a different way and it we both thought it was bad. For one thing they were not very hot. It was bland. I did like the crab bisque.

MY REVIEW: Upon reading the recent reviews for this place, I was a bit excited. However, once I got there I really was not impressed. The ambience was O.K., nothing spectacular....set up as if you are on a ship. The food was subpar...I had the mahi mahi which was horrible. My fish was overcooked, gummy, and salty. However, the service was great, thanks Babin's, but I will not be back.

MY REVIEW: A bit hidden behind an amusement area, Babins sits more or less in the spot once home to Rotten R*ed's Castaways, blown off the map by Hurricane Beaula in 1967, and next to the famed Jimmie W*alker's Edgewater. Parking is a zoo now.

Unlike some others who took large parties to Babins, we found a booth in the bar waiting area nearly large enough for our party of eleven, and didn't have an uncomfortable delay before getting seated at a nice large bay window in the dining.

Though they were as busy as it gets (eight o'clock on a Saturday night -- the barmaid told me 6 or 10 are the best times to come), service was great from start to finish. So was the food, from crab spinach dip to the Shrimp Lafayette to the stuffed and fried, crab and pastas. Dirty rice was a nice change of pace from the usual side.

I took another reviewer's advice on the bloody Mary (make mine Maria), and wasn't disappointed. The waiter was a kidder, and fun; he was like a "part" of our group. He only screwed up one item on a large order, which shouldn't surprise, and he fixed it soon enough. Desserts were also good, from the bread pudding to the key lime, though I've had better cheesecake. You can avoid the Greek salad dressing too, unless you're ready for a departure from the norm. Babins is not pricy for what you get. We'll probably be back.

MY REVIEW: A group of four of us came here for a Sunday brunch. The food was absolutely delicious! The seafood was fresh and the sides were tasty. We were given a table with a nice waterfront view.

I don't understand why people are saying Babin's is overpriced. Good seafood is never cheap! Personally I don't think $13 to $20 for a seafood entree is a lot of money. If you go to a R*d Lobster it's about the same price and the atmosphere is not nearly as nice.

I would come back here again.

MY REVIEW: Excellent service. The waiter thankfully allowed us to leisurely sip drinks and have appetizers. He was very in tune with what it takes to be a good server.

The shrimp en brochette was excellent and the crab cakes were great, I had the broiled shrimp that were fabulous. Also made a great dirty martini!

I would highly recommend a window seat, to watch the boats go by on a nice day!

MY REVIEW: Had lunch here yesterday with a group of 6, my first time. The French bread brought to our table was stale. I ordered the Babins Seafood Salad, broiled, with vinaigrette. For $13.99 it was an overpriced disappointment. The shrimp, crawfish and scallops were overcooked and tasted slightly of iodine. The lettuce was what appeared to be machine-chopped iceberg. It looked more like a stir-fry than a salad. Three of us ordered coffee afterward and cream arrived with only two but our waitress was nowhere to be found. I'll stick to B*oudreaux's 1/2 block away for Cajun food and flawless [self!] service.

MY REVIEW: This was our third (and last) visit to this restaurant. First time was okay but 2 consecutive bad experiences is more than enough. Very overrated and not a good deal for what you pay. The fact that it is usually crowded suggests only that there are too few good seafood restaurants in the area. Don't look for us there ever again.

MY REVIEW: My family and I tried this restaurant one more time after having a poor experience last March. This place continues to be run poorly - slow service and our orders were wrong again just like last March. I paid $21.99 for the smallest piece of fish and an even smaller baked potato. It doesn't feel like a good deal when you walk away from your dinner and still feel so hungry.

It's time to try other seafood restaurants.

MY REVIEW: I took a party of 12 employees for a Friday lunch. We called ahead and were seated immediately. The waitress was charming, polite and very gracious. A wide variety of orders were placed and everyone seemed more than content. The presentation could be a little more considered, but the quality of food was fine. My broiled scallops were sweet and tender with no grit; they could have used a little seasoning, however. The creole veggies turned out to be green beans, heaped a bit too massively on the plate, but nicely prepared. My baked sweet potato was of a consistency that at first made me think they had pureed it and put it back into the peel. I don't think that's correct, but it was flavorful. Beware of the desserts! They are huge, some the size of small bird houses. For those who don't handle stairs well, be alert to the elevator off to the right of the staircase outside. It is a good climb to the restaurant level.

MY REVIEW: You've got to try the seafood bisque and seafood fondue as appetizers. Then the newly added Shrimp Lafayette is wonderful! If you try the crab cakes, be sure to get them blackened for a wonderful seasoned taste. Any of the stuffed fish are great, as well as the stuffed shrimp. We've yet found an appetizer or entree that we didn't like or wouldn't order again. BTW, the wonderful oysters on the seafood fondue appetizer can be ordered as an entree. Just ask! The baked sweet potato is yummy! Believe it or not, we've gotten the gallon size red beans and rice to bring home and to give as gifts. Best we've tried! And, of course, you won't have room for the dessert, but the key lime pie is a must try (comes with a wonderful strawberry glaze). Not too crazy about the bread pudding though. We always bring home doggie bags and eat on them for 2 meals so the prices aren't bad at all.

Kemah Waterfront, Kemah, Texas 77565  281.334.0192

MY REVIEW: Recently I took my parents and brother in-law to celebrate their birthdays. I called that morning in order to get a reservation or what I know now is priority seating for 7:00, I did this knowing that we would have a party of 14, and my elderly parents did not want to wait too long to be seated. I was told that morning that it would not be a problem and that I would be seated immediately before anyone else! When I got there they had a table set up for a large party and told me that they were paying and it should only be a few minutes until we were seated. Well that party did pay and most of them left but about four stayed behind. After 30 minutes past I asked why I had to wait on them (while they are seating parties left and right), they told me that that was our table and we had to wait so I asked them if they could tell them that we were waiting on a reserved table and they told me yes I could but they could not. Instead of getting me another table they were making me wait on them still. So I asked them if I could ask the people how long they would be because I had the next party waiting and the hostes said this was fine. So I asked the people and of course they got angry so now we're all mad. At this point it's been 40 minutes and I still cannot understand why I have not had another table set up for me. Anyway, the manager and I got into a very heated argument he still could not understand the fact that he could have set up another table and he did not have to make me wait on the other party. My guests were upset, the birthdays were ruined, and we just had to leave, but we went to s*artins which is a local mom and pop and the service and food was GREAT! I think it pays to stay with the mom and pops. As a local of the Kemah area and a buisness owner I can't believe how Babins is representing our community! As far as the other boardwalk establishments I've always had pretty good service and will continue to go there. I just feel Babins has room for improvement.

MY REVIEW: My wife and I went for my birthday. We really enjoyed the experience. The service was top notch and the food was REALLY good. We had the stingrays as an appetizer. I ordered the fried oysters. They were really good, small probably because it's January, but good. My wife ordered something that had 4 different kinds of shrimp on it and all of them were great! Prices were fair, the menu was deep with all kinds of options. Atmosphere was excellent.

MY REVIEW: My friend and i went to Babins and had Broiled Red Snapper. I can assure you that it is some of the best snapper you will eat. But before you eat the meal, you must definitely try the spinach and crab dip. After the main meal i finished the spinach and crab. MY REVIEW: I keep going back for the seafood fondue. It's awesome! My husband ordered catfish and it was so spicy that he couldn't even eat it. In 22 years together he has never returned a dish to the kitchen but I convinced him to send it back. A new plate was quickly prepared for him that was perfectly spiced. The waiter and manager were friendly and helpful in fixing the problem.

MY REVIEW: My family of 5 visited Babin's on a Friday night. It was my birthday and we wanted the evening to go smootly so I called earlier in the afternoon & found they did not accept reservations, but honored call ahead seating. Meaning when we arrive-at the decided time, we would get priority seating, or be seated before patrons waiting that did not call ahead. We arrived about ten minutes before 8 and there were at least 6-7 groups waiting for tables, but we were seated within 10 minutes-by the appointed time!

We placed our drink orders and when the drinks were served, fresh light french bread and sweet butter arrived. Our orders were then placed and the whole evening I had only two complaints. I ate a bit slower than the rest of my family and was still working on my greek salad-(Yum) but twice by two separate people, my salad was removed from the table and I had to speak up that I was not finished. Apologies accepted, I know they were just trying to make room on the table. However, a server should ask a diner if they are finished with a plate that still has food on it.

There was a little confusion when the food arrived, as to what entree was for whom. And my entree was wrong- served over dirty rice, even though I requested a baked potato instead telling the waiter I don't like dirty rice. The food runner had the order in her hand and sure enough it was written the correct way. They whisked the dish back to the kitchen, and I swear it was only about 4-5 minutes that I had a brand new entree-as ordered!

I was impressed with the speed this was accomplished, and even more impressed with the food! The soup-Crab bisque and crawfish bisque cream style-was loaded with sweet fresh TENDER crab and crawfish (not rubbery like P*apadeaux's crawfish bisque). Extremely Rich and delicious.

I had the Babin's Mixed Grill Platter, and the only flaw was the miniscule, way too salty, dime sized blackened oysters-3 of them. They were much too small to support the seasoning applied. The lemon butter sauce on my fish fillet was exquisite! The grilled scallops, and shrimp-plump, tender and sweet. The crab cake and stuffed crab had a good proportion of real crab meat to breading(unlike P*apadeaux's bready stuffed crab)

My husband and Son in Law's fish was very fresh, and cooked perfectly-firm and flaky. The seasonings were just right-not overpowering like some other local New Orleans (Cajun) style eateries. The fresh taste of sweet seafood shines through.

To top things off for my birthday I was presented with a HUGE piece of their Banana bread pudding to share. It was tall, dense, sweet and divine. Covered with a meringue and a seasoned, lightly browned, brown sugar crust.

Everyone in our group raved over their meal, and commended me on a good choice for our dining destination. Babin's has several new devotees, we will definitely return!

MY REVIEW: My family and I have enjoyed D*enis's for years so when we hear Babin's was affiliated and had the same menu, we had to try it out. I now eat here almost weekly and my only complaint is the long wait on weekends plus the fact that they don't allow reservations. I love the sauteed Amberjack with lemon butter topping. I always order it with creole vegetables and greek salad. Their greek salad is the BEST! One time I made an order to pickup and when I got their they had no record of it being called in. Before I even had a chance to voice my dissatisfaction, the manager offered to take some of the cost off my bill AND threw in a free bread pudding. That was the best bread pudding I've ever had in my life and totally made me forget about having to wait 15-20 more minutes for my meal. I've lived in Houston for 25 years and am a big seafood lover - THIS PLACE IS A MUST!!!

MY REVIEW: We went to Kemah for the day and decided to eat at Babins. We were seated quickly and then the meal went down from there. We waited over 10 minutes without a waiter even coming to our table. I finally flagged the next waiter that came by and asked if we could get someone to our table. He said very rudely that he'd be with us when he got a chance and proceeded to take another 5 minutes to get to our table. This wasn't a busy weekend night or lunch. This was about 3 in the afternoon and the place was only comfortable busy. We did order the seafood salsa appetizer which was absolutely wonderful. The gumbo was the worst I've ever eaten, the seafood pasta tasted like a can of store brand tomato sauce was put on it, the rest of the food was cold and borderline edible. My generous tipping husband didn't leave a tip. We won't go back again...I'll learn to make the seafood salsa myself.
