MY REVIEW: Our relatives out of town sent us a gift certificate to this restaurant and we were excited to try it. I was simply the worst experience we have had in a restaurant. The place is overpriced but that is ok if the service and food is good. Neither were. I ordered the lettuce head with blue cheese to start with. It was the smallest piece of lettuce you have ever seen. Our entree came out and both my wife and mine were not hot. Barely warm. It took about 30 mintues to get the entree and the place was not busy. Then we had problems getting them to take the gift certificate. It was a horrible experience and I dont understand how they stay in business. I wrote a complaint to management and never even got a response from them. I advise people to think twice before they throw their money away here.

MY REVIEW: My first visit was in May 2004 and I was pretty impressed. Its kinda expensive for a brunch buffet ($25/person), but after eating all that other junk in Galveston, it was worth it!It had all your usual breakfast stuff, but skip that and get your money's worth. Go for the fresh salmons, cocktail shrimps, and the meat carving station. Dont forget dessert...there's so many varieties that its in a whole other room!As for the staff, they were really nice and they kept the mimosas going. My glass was never empty! Nice place to go if you're hanging out in Galveston, but driving in from Houston could be rough.

MY REVIEW: We go here for brunch sometimes for holidays, or on other Sundays when we have guests in town. We always enjoy ourselves. The scenic drive down the seawall is pleasant, and the building is historic so that's a treat to start with. Most of the time someone softly plays the piano at the entrance to the dining area.

On holidays, a massive ice sculpture is the centerpiece to the serving tables, usually strategically placed for a clear view of the entrance - very impressive. On any other Sunday, a large floral or fruit arrangement instead. I think brunch service like this one is a good compromise between your average everyday buffet, and full table service. You can get a large group in and out before the children start to get fussy, but you still get the most needed table service features which make dining out a pleasure.

The dining tables are 3/4 draped, fully set for luncheon with stemmed water, cold beverage, coffee, and champagne glassware, the flatware laid out properly (but with two equally size forks instead of the more formal salad and dinner forks-this is ok with me) and crisp cloth napkins folded into shapes in the center of the dinner plate space. Nice presentation. You might expect the utensils to be rolled inside the napkin and placed at the entrance of the buffet for convenience for them, but the last time I was there, they still did it the traditional way-and it does add a little something special to the presentation to have it this way. A small candle centerpiece or small floral centerpiece is on each table.

The serving tables are formally draped to the floor, arranged attractively with fruit and fresh flowers. There is plenty of variety to choose from, even for picky eaters. All the usual hot breakfast items are included plus-carved to order prime rib, fish, pork, chicken entrees, many sides to choose, fruits, salads, pastries, sometimes poached salmon, cold shrimp, a well appointed Omelet/Belgian waffle station, sometimes a second station making bananas foster, cherries jubilee, or crepes. Standard cakes and pies are displayed on individuals plates, usually in another room, making a second beautiful display possible. Sparkling wine(champagne) is included and served to anyone over 21.

Stuffy and pompous people may not like this place because the staff is friendly and happy, and not so formal in their approach to serving them, as the staff might be in a full service resturant serving the same menu. They execute their jobs precisely and properly, but never in such a way that it makes the less genteel guest feel uncomfortable. I hope that part of it never changes.
