MY REVIEW: This is the best dining experience in town. The food is always fresh, tasty, and superbly prepared. Service is exceptional and personable. My special requests are always accomodated. Yes, it is priced above the chain eateries, but the Masraff's combine the best of atmosphere, service, great food, and hospitable attitude to make it worth the little extra. You really can have it your way with a smile.

MY REVIEW: Well I wish I could write a positive review here b/c it seems like everyone here loves this place. I'll admit I unfortunately didn't get the chance to try any of the food so you can take this review or leave it. Let me start off with saying that the atmosphere was exceptional; very elegant and intimate, great place to bring a date. However my problem started with the first wave of customer service. My wife and I love trying new elegant places to see which ones happen to be the Best of Houston, however I am an omnivore & my wife is a vegetarian. Why take a vegetarian to an establishment where they only serve meat? Well only because places like Rainbow Lodge as well as other establishment like it have been so gracious to try and accommodate my wife when she visits these restaurants, we thought that this place would be just as capable. First off I had called at the beginning of the month to inquire about accommodations for vegetarians, which I was assured that there would be no problem and then I scheduled my reservation for the middle of the month. When I had called the day before to confirm my reservations, I was told that there were no reservations under my name. So I made new reservations and had them note that my wife was vegetarian and to make sure the chef knows so that he/she could accommodate her needs. When we got there we were promptly greeted and seated. I informed the waiter that my wife was vegetarian and we wanted to let the chef know so he/she could make preperations. The waiter came back and said all that he/she could do was to make a mushroom orzo dish, which didn't seem to be all too appetizing and lacking imagination (probably would've been made with chicken stock just the same). With the kitchen at his/her disposal, we were disappointed that is all that he/she could do. After we decided to leave, the manager came over trying to disuade us but couldn't seem to offer anything that would accommodate a vegetarian diet other than the mushroom orzo. Like I said I would have liked to given the place a good review but since they don't seem to be able to offer anthyng for anyone who has a different dietary habit than meat-eaters, we unfortunately will not be able to visit the establishment again. We will have to leave this one gem to the carnivores and stick to the others that can provide delicious meals for herbavores, carnivores and omnivores alike.

MY REVIEW: There were six of us dining. Each one of us liked our appetizer (we all had different ones), and each of us tasted and loved the entrees ordered -- from fish to steak to lamb (excellent). We also had coffee and dessert which was very well received. Out of six diners no one had a complaint and everyone really liked their food. Now that's saying something! The wine was good, the piano player was great, wait staff, etc. were very competent. We had a very good time. The bill was not outrageous. We will be back.

MY REVIEW: This was my first visit and I must say that I was pleased with the drinks, food and service. The focaccia bread was soft, with hints of cheese and herbs. The lump crab appetizer was superb. And for those who don't typically like cabbage, the cabbage rolls were excellent. My only complaint was the annoying fly and gnat flying around our table. Other than that, it was rare treat.

MY REVIEW: Our group of 60 is usually quite hard to please, but Masraff's impressed and delighted. Everyone's entre was perfectly prepared and visually stunning. Although we were a large group, everyone was treated as thought they were the only diner!
The chef didn't miss a beat, even the vegetarians diners raved about the food.
The prices were quite honest, considering the quality and care of each dish.
Masraff's is a jewel in Houston. Well worth the visit, especially if your guests need to be impressed and spoiled. Fabulous food and smart decor.

MY REVIEW: We had the chef's counter-the six course meal. Not to belabor all the details but it was perhaps the best meal we have had in Houston. Tuesday night was slow but the attention swas superb. Jacques explained wine pairings expertly. From the ahi tuna -foie gras-lobster crepes-halibut-lamb chops and dessert- all the food was beyond excellent. Atmosphere, service, food etc. --all fantastic.

MY REVIEW: This place has the most incredible food. My wife and I ate here for a banquet style dinner for about 35 people. The quail appetizer is fantastic as is the bacon wrapped scallops. Normally I cannot stand cabbage, but Massraffs serves cabbage balls wrapped in bacon and stuffed with brie that has to be one of the tastiest things I have ever eaten. The sweet potato stuffed ravioli is delicious. The beef tenderloin is some of the best I have ever had. You could cut it with a fork. My wife will not stop talking about the desserts (creme' brulee and apple tort).
Overall, I would have to say that I had probably one of the top five meals of my life while dining at Masraffs. Excellent on all levels. The waitstaff was also very helpful, attentive, and friendly. My only complaint is lack of parking, but I guess if you use the valet, it is their problem instead of yours.

MY REVIEW: Very nice atmosphere. You can talk business without being overheard or having to yell. Good menu, which changes from time to time. Specials are unique (i.e., uncommon - not funky; good and delicious). Cobb salad is awesome. Have never had anything bad here. Homemade soups -- on and off the menu -- are truly wonderful. Great place for client meetings, etc. Will definitely be back.

MY REVIEW: This was my first time at Masraffs and from the food alone it won't be my last.
Like all Houstonian restaurants their directions were a bit vague and with the roadworks on the 610 it made finding Masraffs a challenge. However once I arrived I was very pleasantly surprised. The entrance is large and spacious and the overall impression is quality and efficiency. One suggestions to the owners however would be to put a more comfortable selection of chairs/sofas in the waiting area. My partner was 20 minutes late (also victim of the 610) and by the time she arrived my hide was raw. I was offered a drink but the are was not ideal for drinking due to a lack of side tables.
Once seated in the dining area we were given the standard speech by the waiter on how the chef has prepared all this food from the finest ingredients blah blah blah. It gets a bit banal at times and most people have heard it before. My suggestion to Mastraffs would be to break tradition and just tell people what it tastes like and how it is served ! I have absoultely no interest in knowing my cow lived on a sunny south facing slope somewhere.
Lest I appear not impressed by the food I have to say that it was really very good. Maybe taking the cows off the south slope works then? I had a beautiful steak tatare (reballious nature having heard about the wonderful cooking !) and to start a superb pumpkin soup, spiced and served piping hot.
The serving sizes are generous and the service is efficient without being over bearing. No rush to get you out of the restaurant either which makes a really pleasant change form the chain owned restaurants.
Priced in the 'not weekly' brackets but also less than the 'special occasions only' price range.
All in all a very pleasant experience and one to put on the 'must go again'' list.

MY REVIEW: Our senior citizen group frequently enjoys dining out. Our group usually travels with canes, walkers and wheelchairs. After a dining experience, our group rates the restaurant. This week we tried Masraff's Afternoon Tea.
ATOMSPHERE: décor is wonderful
SERVICE: warm, friendly and attentive
FOOD: pastry miniatures, tea sandwiches, cookies, tea and cappuccino were a delicious afternoon treat
ACCESSIBLITY FOR DISABLED: excellent!
OTHER COMMENTS: Our group has enjoyed lunch here in the past and had a wonderful experience. The valet service was very helpful in assisting us in loading and unloading our bus. Such assistance is rare and greatly appreciated!

MY REVIEW: This restaurant never fails to impress. Their dishes are impeccably prepared, the service is attentive without being smothering, and the ambience is lovely. Took my mother-in-law there for Mother's Day, and the brunch served was out of this world. Highly recommend.

MY REVIEW: This restaurant strikes me as 'good enough'. Nothing terribly bad has happened - I just feel consistently underwhelmed. Masraff's simply fails to attract my attention and loyalty. Despite its proximity to office and home, I've dined there only three times since it opened.
Basic issue: If my party does not elect to order starters, we are rushed through our entree - I suppose in an attempt to turn the table an extra time. If not rushed we would have continued to order bottles of far-from-inexpensive wine and more than compensated for the lost starter revenue.
Another issue: In addition, staff seems fiercely unwilling to alter dishes to suit the wishes of the diner. For example, if I request that a sauce be served on the side, that is not possible. Interesting that Tony's and Cafe Annie find such a request easy to accomodate. Since I order most dishes this way, it is a big factor in my dissatisfaction.
Yet another issue: When seated in a non-smoking section at Masraff's, I have been served by a staffperson reeking of smoke. How does this make sense?
Likes: I do like the ambience of the vintner room. It is at once cozy and sophisticated. The eclectic mix of furnishings is quite attractive. This room is far more appealing than the too-open main dining area.
Another like: The food has never been poorly prepared. It arrives hot and tastefully presented. In fact all of the experience is 'good-enough'.
So, why am I whining? In a city of a zillion excellent restaurants, good-enough somehow ISN'T good enough. For the dollars I must be prepared to spend at Masraff's, I could be having a really splendid evening at Tony's or Cafe Annie or ...many others. And that is just what I do.

MY REVIEW: This Restaurant is a favorite. Has Euro American Cuisine at reasonable (not cheap!) prices. The menu is seasonal but it is the first Houston restaurant that offered both a superb Rainbow Trout as well as marvelous Quail. Simply Outstanding! Decor is excellent, The proprietors Russell and Tony Masraff are charming and attentive. This restaurant compares with the very best in London, Paris or New York.
