MY REVIEW: Strong Points: i like their pastries selection. the desserts are good.

Weak Points: Food isn't that good. I'm originally from the Philippines and i know the tastes of good and authentic filipino food.

staff are very unfriendly especially the older ladies - they never smile.

MY REVIEW: I don't agree with others saying about food being greasy. They have not been to Gold Ribbon lately. Comparing other Filipino restaurants in Houston, this is the best, cleanest, and biggest. Their ingredients like shrimps in their pansit or vegetables are big and whole not like the other Filipino restaurants you can't even see the ingredients because they're small and scarce. I think that some Filipinos say bad things to these people because they are just envious of their success. The owners are very nice people and I want to congratulate them for having these restaurants for the Filipino community. I've been lucky to see a lot of Filipino actors and singers and even the past president of the Philippines (Pres. Ramos) come to Gold Ribbon. I did not have the chance of seeing them when I was in the Philippines. Thank you Gold Ribbon. We love your food. Keep up the good work.

MY REVIEW: Went there last Monday morningto have breakfast, they have it posted that they are open 7am. We were waiting outside for them to open when some guy came out and went back in, and we tried to follow him inside asuming it was already opened and that guy locked the door behind him leaving us outside without saying a word to us. Then another employee showed up saying they are open but there is no cook yet. What the hell? Wasted our time. I've had bad experiences there before, but this takes the cake. It's like they don't want us to eat there...then we won't.

MY REVIEW: First of all I and some of my friends from Austin did have a good and nice experience on this place, this is the best Filipino restaurant we ever visited aside from the others, we love their pastries specially the halo-halo, their food, and the place is so spacious, but the only weakness is their service so slow, when we order the food aside from the buffet that they had alacart, we have waited for long time. I strongly suggest that I guess they should have more man power or people if that can help to make the job go faster, for at first we don't know how many people they have inside the kitchen, for it let us wait for that long, hope it's not gonna happen again.

MY REVIEW: We often visit this place for fundraisers and parties, otherwise, I would rather go anywhere else then this place. The food is so-so and the service is SLOW. It is a really good place to have a party, due to the dance floor, and the catering all in one place. Since I have worked here as a bus-boy before, I have seen the kitchen and glad to say that food preperation areas are very clean, and everything is organized and neat. If I had a choice, I probably wouldnt eat their on a regular day, but if you're at a party, who can say no to free food?!

MY REVIEW: I called ahead of time to make sure that the food items we like are in their buffet only to get there (after driving for 35 miles with out-of-town guests) and be disappointed and be told that they were not replenishing their buffet items. We got there at 6 pm and the buffet was supposed to close at 8 pm.. I just do not get it! A full two hours and be served left-overs. That was disgusting. I guess they know that they have a captive market of Filipinos and don't really care to improve their service. Needless to say, we just left and went to Mediterannean restaurant, instead, which we enjoyed. Beware....don't come to Gold Ribbon for their buffet before closing time...and do not bother to call because they lie. We're not coming back.

MY REVIEW: I think this is the best Filipino restaurant in Houston visited by famous celebtities from the Philippines. I was there one time and saw Gary Valenciano and the American Idol contestant from Hawaii. Two or three years ago, I saw former President Ramos at Gold Ribbon. Aside from seeing celebrities, I really like their bakery products esp. ensaymada with ube, mamon, and siopao. I always get birthday cakes at this place because they taste fantastic. My kids love them. Their buffet is delicious and price is reasonable. I would surely recommend this place.

MY REVIEW: I didn't like this restaurant much until someone told met that the best time to go was Sunday during lunch. It was almost as if it was a completely different restaurant. The quality of the food was far superior to any other time I'd been there. My favorite is the chop suey. The ginatan is warm and delicious. The adobo, however, is usually a little too dry.

What I love best about this filipino restaurant - NO KARAOKE!!! I can eat my meal in peace.

MY REVIEW: Every time we go to this place, the people who work here are just very unfriendly-they don't smile and they don't greet you like something is stuck in their you know what. The food is either half cooked or they are too fatty and too tough (for the meat). I think they're only good with their bakery products. So I just pick from the bakery on what I need and go on. I don't want to stay in a very unfriendly place-makes you lose your appetite!

MY REVIEW: Great pasteries. I bought the mamon, siopao asado, and the ensymada and all were great! Halo halo was really great. I've been to several different filipino restaurants here in houston but this is the only place where they serve halo-halo. I have yet to try their buffet. I did walk by it and it looke delish.

MY REVIEW: The best Filipino restaurant in Houston. It's clean, spacious, good location, and has class as compared to other Filipino restaurants. Food taste delicious as well as their bakery products. Keep up the good work!

MY REVIEW: Their pastries look good, not sure about the taste yet. We ordered several items that were not available...this was pretty frustrating. The Macs chicken we thought was delicious!

MY REVIEW: lunch buffet is good..I esp. like the calamari, dinuguan and caldereta. Their siopao is good if only they can work on putting enough meat or stuffing inside. Im quite disappointed myself the last time we bought their siopao. I hope they will try to improve it, its just not worth it to buy if its all bread and almost nothing inside. Thanks.

MY REVIEW: I like the dinuguan here. Also their siopao- but I was disappointed with the siopao we bought today, there's barely any meat inside the siopao..its mostly bread..i hope they will do something about it and make sure that there is enough "palaman" inside their siopao!!!

MY REVIEW: Not the fanciest place, but it's cute in its simplicity. The reasons to go are the Mongolian buffet, the HaloHalo, and the bakery. It's got a fun filipino feel to it too, with music and tasty enough food (be honest, filipino food in general leaves much to be desired, this is about as good as it gets... not bad at all, I like it! But it's far from fine cuisine!). I always enjoy my meals here, the staff is so friendly and the food is filling as well! I recommend it to my friends.

MY REVIEW: Gold Ribbon is a great Bake Shop for Filipinos. Their siopao (pork or chicken) are delicious! My wife loves it cause they really fill it to the very edge with meat. My wife's peeve is when a siapao has too much bread/bun. I like their siopao too, but my only recommendation is that they put a hardboiled egg inside. Hmmmm. We used to order siopao from a filipino lady in dallas who did that... oh yeah good stuff. Ensamada and other baked goods are easy to get and very tasty.

However the buffet is not my favorite. I don't understand it. Last time my wife went there in Oct 2004 with her friends, my wife said there was hardly any filipino food but half of it was American stuff. Thats a shame. I too don't understand the buffet. There's a mongolian grill and some filipino food and some stuff that looks like you can get at S*am's Club.

For baked goods go to Gold Ribbon. Get yourself a few dozen siopaos and pastries. But skip the restaurant and buffet until they change. Hopefully, the owners read these reviews. I actually like the layout of the restaurant cause its more spacious. Just needs to focus on catering to the hungry Filipinos in the Med Center area (I think there may be a few Filipino nurses there :)

MY REVIEW: The food here is alright. Too greasy on some of their items. Some of their staff aren't as welcoming. As if you're there and nothing else. Presentation also needs some working on.

MY REVIEW: Buffet is okay on some days. Presentation skills are really lacking for these folks. Pricey. It's filipino food for crying out loud! They need to get rid of their mogolian style offering and just stick to the plain basics.

MY REVIEW: The buffet was caked up and all that was left was 1 portion from each dish. It was completely unappetizing. The sinigang had good flavor, but its the presentation that they lack.
