MY REVIEW: We were in Galveston for my husband's birthday and decided to go to SG after it was recommended by a hotel employee. The food was fabulous. We arrived around 5 p.m. – early so we didn’t catch the dinner crowd. I heard someone talking about reservations. If you’re planning on going for dinner, play it safe and make a reservation.
I had an almond-crusted salmon dish that was very different. Some may like it, some may not. I LOVED it! My husband had the lobster tail and risotto – very, very good. I almost wished I had ordered that. They happily prepared a simple pasta dish for my daughter, which she devoured, so obviously it was good (oh, and I had a bite or two as well!).
It’s well worth the money if you’re looking for a nice place to eat while in Galveston!

MY REVIEW: The best seafood restraunt in Houston or Galveston. Why? Because it is run by the only people who truly know good seafood...Italians from New Jersy.
The Lobster bisque is so good you want to crawl into it. The coconut grilled salmon over Asian/Thai veggies is an absolute marvel. My favorite is the bulliabaise (sp?) made in the old-fashioned bar-top seafood steamers from the old NYC restraunts. The seared Tuna appetizer is something you will not want to share.
The menu is unique, well thought out, and everything is fresh, fresh, fresh. Prices are fantastic for the sizes of the entres and the quality.

MY REVIEW: This is one of the BEST places to eat on the island.. I love the open kitchen concept, so you can watch the chefs prepare your food. It is warm and the food is some of the best I have ever had..
I love the coconut crusted shrimp with the oriental veggies, but I get soba noodles instead of the white rice.. It is one of the best dishes, and it is so good, I cannot get past ordering it everytime.. Their apple cider salad is AMAZING, and they will even sell you a bottle of it- BUY SOME!! The fried asparagus and jumbo lump crabmeat is a unique and wonderful dish..
As I said, I love this place and look forward to going every time.. one last thing.. if you order a cappuccino, you will get the best biscotti you have ever put in your mouth.. I think the owner makes it and it is fabulous!

MY REVIEW: I'm a local and will come in ocassionally to eat with guests that want a nice restaurant setting to eat. My only issue with this place is that its over-priced for what you get. Service is generally very good and consistent. I just wish they would improve the food. Atmosphere / people are there, just get better quality food.

MY REVIEW: The restaurant had a nice atmosphere, I enjoy the music you hear on the sidewalk that sort of lures you in. I live in Galveston and have never been here.
Apparently, the seafood must be much better than the chicken! My daughter got seafood gumbo and she didn't care for it much, but my friends got the fried asparagus, lobster, apple cider salad and they loved it very much. Not being a seafood lover, I was hoping for more of a choice, perhaps some grilled chicken, considered they have the name "grill' in their title, but nope, no grilled chicken. I ordered the roasted chicken with mashed potatoes and gravy. The gravy was not on the potatoes, but on the chicken, on top of the skin, and a piece of rosemary sticking out of my potatoes that looked like a tree in the mountains. The mashed potatoes were not creamy, kind of grainy, and the chicken, though tender and moist, was not flavorful at all. I have to say the bread was quite good, but other than that, I feel this place is way overpriced and what I ate was not very good, they could have easily went and picked up a rotisserie chicken from Walmart and I would not have known the difference. Well, maybe I would have because Walmart's is better. Granted, I'm sure they aren't known for their chicken, but there should be a better selection of non-seafood items for those guests that tagged along with their seafood loving friends.

MY REVIEW: I am sure no one knows my name, have been at least 10-15 times since they opened. The last few times I have been a little disappointed, the lobster bisque has tasted scorched the last few times I have ordered it. Will not stop going at this point, will see what happens next time

MY REVIEW: Not sure why people are so passionate about the place. I went with a couple from out of town who wanted to eat at a fancy-type place. The atmosphere was good, the service was outstanding, however, the food was just so-so for me and my friends. Maybe the real chefs took the evening off, but the quality of the food was not worth the price. Maybe I just had high expectations, but I was disappointed.

MY REVIEW: Well we didn't have reservations the first time we went and we didn't even think they would squeeze us in but we tried anyway. HOLY COW!! No wonder you need reservations, it was nothing short of WOW. I had the Big Daddy Gumbo and Jim my husband had the Snapper special. It was simple but not over flavored if that makes any sense. Galveston has alot of seafood places that put all kinds of creams and sauces on there fish but not here. They brag about no freezers all fresh product that would explain no sauces. We try to go once every couple of weeks.

MY REVIEW: This place is simply what a great local restaurant should be. It exemplifies how much more Galveston has in common with New Orleans, Mobile, Key West, and Savannah than Dallas or Houston. First of all the food is superlative. Great menu, with a wide variety or choices. The presentation is excellent, but not showy or stuffy or snooty. Likewise the decor is just what it should be - both stylish and comfortable. And above all, it is so darned friendly! The locals at the bar are welcoming and offer advice on the menu and Galveston gossip. Staff and manageemnt make you feel like a regular without a hint of patronization or a-t-t-i-t-u-d-e. Foodies will love to watch the "soupmeister" make the soups and gumbos at the bar. The desserts are so good you'll stay in bed the next day with residual guilt! If I lived closer I'd be there every chance I got. These folks have it down.

MY REVIEW: Well, i'm a fairly critical soul; especially with restaurants. The only problem I can see is that I dont live close enough to this one.
I've had everything but beef/veal here [uh, duh... it's in GALVESTON! But dinnermates have told me those dishes are wonderful also!]
The service is quietly efficient and the atmosphere is totally hip. So "not touristy" and is LOCALLY owned with the co-owners checking on the tables to make sure your dinner is perfect.
The drinks are great and have a decent wine list. Groovy bar/counter where you can watch them concoct the day's soups and stews [seafood based, of course] Do not come here on a diet!!! Get the appetizer portions and SMALL soup / gumbo. Otherwise, you'll get a bowl you could also do a pedicure in!
Be advised: Call for reservations Thurs - Sunday, esp in the summertime. Enjoy!
