MY REVIEW: We decided to dine at Irmas Southwest before the Taylor Swift Concert. Reservation was 5:30pm. Arrived 5 minutes late, but were seated 35 minutes late. Never had any idea about the verbal menu...This is a bad idea, the waitress had a difficult time reciting the offerings. We never asked about prices, never expecting what would transpire.

We had 5 diners. One diner ordered Ice Tea and the other four diners ordered soda. The soda that was served was canned soda. The tea was good until we received the bill. Two refills were provided for the tea, and we were charged $3.00 per glass, $9.00 for one tea and two refills. The canned soda was $2.50 each. What a ripoff. The meals were not too overpriced, but when we received the bill, we noticed the additional charge of $3.50 for beef fajitas and another $1.00 to have beef in an Ala Carte taco.

Needless to say, I am considering disputing the charge with my CC company, based on unfair business practice. No prices are available prior to ordering, and they seem to charge whatever they want expecting no one to complain.

Oh another thing, we had a party of 5 persons, they added gratuity of 18%. I guess they have to do this, because no one would ever leave a tip after being ripped off this bad. Not necessarily the waitress fault, just a poorly thought out business plan.

Tally
$19.00 Tea and Canned Soda (No Alcoholic Drinks)
$14.99 Fajitas
$3.50 Beef Fajita Upcharge
$7.95 Guacamole Appetizer (Not enough for 2 adults and 3 kids)
Mandatory Tip of 18% on 5 person party.

I am a firm believer in 20% gratuity, but could not make myself add additional tip after this experience. Not happy at all.

MY REVIEW: I love this restaurant and the fact there is no written menu,, means the limited plates are fresh and creative. Had lunch there yesterday,, the chicken and cheese enchiladas in mole sauce was as good as any other mex plate in the city IMHO. I could make a meal on the wonderfully flavored red sauce and chips alone! Service is always attentive and friendly.. They are celebrating 11 yrs in business. Wish they were open at night time (besides before Astro home games).

MY REVIEW: I had dinner at Irma's last night with a friend, and while it's fresh on my mind I wanted to share my experience. No problem getting a table at 7:00pm as the place on had about 6 tables taken (that should have been a sign). We had to ask twice to be seated before anyone paid any attention to us; once seat the waiter started pushing margaritas before we even said welcome. We ordered one margarita and a beer, and they were finally delivery about 7-8 minutes later along with some chips and two types of salsa, neither of which were anything to brag about.

When we asked for menus, we were told “the specials” and then repeated our request for a menu and were told they only have a verbal menu. So asked the waiter to repeat the offerings, no prices were given so each time we asked “how much.” On one item he told us two different prices, and then said he’d have to check. We find decided to go with the combination which had a fajita taco, an enchilada, and a shrimp taco with rice and beans. The fajita taco was disappointing; Taco C*abana does a better job, the enchilada was a “mini” about ˝ the size of anywhere else, and the shrimp taco was good, but only had two shrimp and was soggy. The rice was average and the beans were never served. Finally the waiter wondered over to try and sell another round of drinks so did get more chips and salsa, but no beans.

When the bill came it was $50.00 for something you could get anywhere else for $30.00 and had better service, not to mention the reduced portions. The “margarita” served was a “Top Shelf Frozen” for $8.00, no one ordered top shelf, just a plain margarita and $4.50 for the beer. Needless to say, first and last trip all in the same night. Don’t waste you time and money, head to G*uadalajara, P*appasito’s, E*scalante’s, or any of many more that will leave Irma’s in the dust....

MY REVIEW: I agree...with the previous review DON'T BOTHER!

We went for a quick meal before the Astros game. My husband was very hungry, I wasn't. The "No Menu" thing is a bother. I was thinking of just having nachos, but the waiter did not mention them when he told us what was available (I later saw the table next to us having nachos). My husband ordered fish tacos, which were good, but we later discovered we were charged $22 for two fish tacos, rice & a pico de gallo. I asked for just a small dinner salad, the waiter told me they only had fajita salads with chicken or beef. when I told him that I would not order anything, he changed his mind & said they had a small salad. The final bill for fish tacos, a small salad and 4 beers = $52!!

MY REVIEW: DON'T BOTHER!!! Find somewhere else to eat prior to an Astros game. A group of 4 went to Irma's, prior to the game, and you would have thought that this restaurant had never had to deal with an Astros pre-game rush. The service was horrific and the food was cold and tasteless and not inexpensive. I was ashamed to have recommended it to the couple that was with us. I have to wonder if it was made in some off site location and brought over to be served. It was tasteless and cold. I have had better meals at some of the fast food mexican restaurants in the city.

MY REVIEW: I was not put off by the no menu policy. I have been in restaurants before that had this. I scoff at the people who get off to this being an expensive restaurant due to that. I have been to far more expensive restaurants that had menus and the meal cost us 1500 for 4. Maybe this is a selling point. I originally thought they frequently changed their menu, hence, no reason to print one. The only strong point was how quick everything was (drinks, chips, salsa & guacamole). When our food arrived in less than five minutes from ordering it, I thought that was too quick. Seriously, from the time we ordered it till the time it reached our table it was less than five minutes. We ordered the mix fajitas. The shrimp was good, the chicken okay, and the beef horrible. The chicken looked and tasted like something from the frozen meat section. The beef had that taste that beef gets when it has been out too long to defrost. I will never go back. Our check ended up being $58 which I thought was not too bad for the location. We had the mixed fajita plate, two margaritas, two beers, and an order of guacamole.

MY REVIEW: We had a great experience at Irma's before the Astro's game on Thursday night! We were seated right away, even though we were 45 minutes late for our reservations. The food was very tasty and the margaritas were some of the best we've ever had. The wait staff was friendly and we also enjoyed a taste of their homemade fruity lemonade. We will be back!

MY REVIEW: Luckily we got there before the lunch crowd, too crowded and not enough room to even walk to pay you bill. The chips were gold and the waitress looked at me crazy for wanting a to go box. I ordered chicken mole'(ok but not the best). I don't understand why menus cannot be printed or daily specials written on a white board. Is it legal to not have price posted?

MY REVIEW: Well I just left Irma's and the chips were good the queso was good and that was about it. They don't have menus, so not only do you know everything they serve, you don't know how much you ae going to pay after you have had to make up your own meal due to the imaginary menus.. I was yelled at by a waitress because i couldn't make up my mind on one of the five items on their oh so elaborate verbal menus. I ended up gettin a fajita salad. The meat was really good, but the rest of the salad could have stayed where it was. Oh yes and that only cost me a mere $16! I think they charged me extra because it wasn't on the menu! For today!

MY REVIEW: very pricey for what they offer... had the beef & shrimp fajitas..there is no menu, all verbal. One of the items was Beef, Chicken & Shrimp Fajitas and you could also have a combo, except you are charged extra $5 for the shrimp. What a crock!! Please dude! its a mexican restaurant not Cafe A*nnie's!!! It was not that crowded when we got there, but waited 45 mins before our order was taken, another 30 mins before we got our food. Most people have an hour for lunch... naturally that did not happen today.. very disappointed!
