MY REVIEW: We went to this restaurant after a friend recommended it for Dim Sum. While the food was good, it was not great and did not seem to be prepared with as much care and detail as other dim sum restaurants, nor did they offer a tremendous amount of variety. In terms of price, it was definitely on the high side for Dim Sum.

MY REVIEW: We used to come her pretty often for dim sum and it was okay. However, we like to arrive early and the restaurant has the annoying habit of mopping with a very strong pine disinfectant right before they open the doors for custopmers. Talk about off-putting and appetite reducing! So we searched and found another place in the same general vicinity that has dim sum to order (no carts) - hot and freshly prepared (and no Pine-Sol!). We noticed that New Golden Palace is undergoing a much needed external face-lift, but we probably won't be back.

MY REVIEW: This my favorite place to relax and eat, eat, eat! Get there early if your by yourself or with a friend @ leat by 11am to avoid waiting for seating. Larger parties get in sooner!this place gets very busy, the food is always fresh and tasty with many different items available.I always order the baby bok-choy with garlic sauce from the regular menu and then have dim sum from the carts, i find the bok-choy has better value even if it's a large platter! Staff is sometimes not able to understand english but ask for Mgr. and he will help you out!this place bring back memories from a restraunt I went to very frequently in Maryland with a very good friend whom taught me about Dim Sum and I will always love her for that! The Food is the best Dim Sum in Houston!!!

MY REVIEW: I've eaten at all different dimsum restaurants in Houston, and this was definitely one of the best. The other reviews had me expecting bad service, but everyone was friendly and helpful. In fact, most of the servers spoke enough English to actually communicate what each dish was, including ingredients.

MY REVIEW: I've been having a hard time looking for a dim sum restaurant near the downtown area, so I started cruising the Bellaire Blvd. for one after jury duty one Tuesday afternoon. I ordered (2) Ha Gau, (1) Sui Mai, and (1) Lo Bak Go. The Ha Gau was not too good as the wrapping was too moist, but the shrimp was ok. The Sui Mai tasted kind of funny, sort of a lingering sour taste. The Lo Bak Go was terrible, no taste and way too moist. Service was terrible, with the 2 waitresses complaining in Tai San, that their tips were terrible (I wonder why, since I waited till I'm almost finished with my food to get a refill). Most of that stuff would not have bothered me, till I got the bill of $14.00. You do the math. I got ripped off, tried to argue, but could not get a itemized list of charges. If you go, pay cash becuase I do not trust them with the a credit card.

MY REVIEW: I visited New Golden Palace for the first time on July 22nd. Also, I had never been to a Dim Sum before. I was delighted with the experience. Being able to view all the different dishes as the staff wheeled the trays around certainly helped a novice like me to pick out what foods I wanted to try. It was a culinary adventure.... some foods I really liked and others I wasn't so crazy about. However, I can't say that any of the foods I tried were distasteful - I just preferred some over others. I had never tried chicken feet before and although they were a bit bony, their taste was quite good.

Since I didn't know what the names or composition of many of dishes, it is hard to list in this review some of the foods I liked. I do know I liked the fried squid and the Lo Mein was delicious. Our whole table was so stuffed we were unable to try any of the desserts so I can't comment on those. We didn't encounter any rudeness on the part of the waiting staff. Some had difficulties communicating in English but what do you expect when you visit an authentic ethnic restaurant ? Our party of 3 tried some 10 or 11 different dishes and our bill amounted to a little over $30. That's a bargain in my book ! I am certainly telling my other friends about this Dim Sum and will try to come again soon !

MY REVIEW: Best Dim Sum in Houston! Very consistent quality, friendly staff! Reasonably priced! We go there every week and still can;t get enough of this place. As someone who has been to China several times, I can say that this is the closest to authentic Chinese you will get anywhere in the Southern US!

MY REVIEW: We live north of Houston and periodically drive down to the Bellaire area. The dim sum varies from okay to very good. We have had dim sum in other parts of the country and Canada, and this certainly doesn't rank with the best. The service leaves a lot to be desired. When we asked our waiter for various dishes which had not come by on the carts, he acted annoyed and walked off--we got some of the dishes by asking other employees. When it was time to get the check, he was friendlier. My husband told him he needed to smile more. The waiter replied that he had worked there for over 10 years and he knew all these things--indicating the restaurant. We told him that may be true, but the customers don't know "all these things". We tried to explain to him about customer service---he obviously was not interested. We also had a question about one of the charges on the bill. Like one of the other reviewers, we found this to be a losing proposition. So--buyer beware.

MY REVIEW: No matter what other reveiwers said, this is the best dim sum restaurant in Houston. They are authentic. Even my teenager kids like the food (usually they only have the normal fast/junk food).

Be adventurous and try all these dim sum plates. They are such as delight to learn the Chinese culture.

MY REVIEW: The dim sum was so so. The skin of the dumplings were tough and hard meaning they were not steamed enough or have been left standing too long. The waitress was the worst I have ever encountered. We had to get our own napkins, chopsticks and food because after she served our tea, she just left us. We tried several times to make eye contact with her and even wave to her but she just avoided us and pretty much all the tables she was suppose to be serving. But when we finished our eating, she suddenly appeared and was extremely helpful and repeatedly asked "Everything OK?". I knew then what her intentions were so I was not impressed and actually did not want to leave a tip. But my hubby said treat it like buffet and leave $2. So he did and the stupid waitress had the nerve to say that tips are normally 10-15%. I told her outright that we didn't get any service.

MY REVIEW: The best authentic food. Dim sum is very popular on the weekends and you mgiht want to go early(before 11am) on the weekend to avoid having to wait for a table. The service is not the best but the food more than accounts for that. And the management is very nice/helpful. Its the best when you have several people with you and can order alot of food to share, that way you can try everything.

MY REVIEW: The food was ok, but the bill was wrong, and the restaurant refused to admit their error. They use a bill system that doesn't itemize the dishes you order. Our bill said we had eaten 12 dishes when in fact we had eaten only 10. The difference amounted to 6 dollars; it was not a lot of money. But we spent 10-15 minutes trying to reconstruct what we had eaten because the bill didn't itemize it. Even after we compared what we thought we had eaten with the waiter, they refused to remove the extra items. We asked to speak to the manager, and he said, "Our staff NEVER makes mistakes. Therefore it is impossible that you ordered only 10 items." We showed him our list and we demanded that the manager produce a specific list of items we had eaten. The manager could not do this; he just continued to insist that his staff never makes mistakes. Both of us have graduate degrees, and my dinner companion (who is native Chinese and speaks the language fluently) has a background in accounting; we are not likely to make mistakes on a bill. But the way they do the bills practically encourages these disputes to happen (and makes it impossible for customers to question the charges). In the 20 years I've spent visiting Houston restaurants, I have to say that I found their customer service to be the most appalling of ANY restaurant I have visited. If you do go for the dim sum (and I don't particularly recommend it; it was of average quality), you should insist that the waiters list individual items on the bill so the restaurant can't cheat customers (as I believe they did with us). Or better yet: search b4-u-eat for a better Chinese restaurant in houston; you can easily find a restaurant with better dim sum (and more honest managers) than the one we encountered here.

MY REVIEW: This place has been my favorite place for Dim Sum for the past 11 years. It would be very hard to find a place better than this in Houston!! Cheers to a job well done!
