MY REVIEW: I love the Melting Pot! The entire experience is perfect for a date and the food is excellent. I suggest Coq au vin for a cooking style--the wine really cooks into the meats well.

My only complaint: Melting Pot needs an age policy or needs to start throwing out people with ill behaved little ones. During my last visit, one couple allowed their two small children (younger than 6) to run around the restaurant like it was M*cDonalds. Hello people..there are hot pots of oil abound!

MY REVIEW: This was my first time here & I enjoyed it so much! The restaurant was a little dark but it was neat. I Was with a group of girls for their monthly Girls Night Out. That was a bargain-it was $26 for the entire meal-a real bargain!

The dessert part was of course my favorite! We had dark chocolate & milk chocolate & all the ymmu things to dip in the chocolate! It was a chocolate dream! The entree part was fun too & so good. I enjoyed cooking the meats. It thought it was fun! The cheese was all good but not my favorite of the meal! It was fun to watch them make the cheese fondue & it was fun interacting with your eating companions & eating off skewers. I cant wait to go back!

The only thing I didnt like was that you smell like fried food when you leave if anyone in your area is cooking with the oil. Thats the only bad thing I can think of.

MY REVIEW: Yes fondue is not just cheese and chocalate- at this restaurant your main course will be boiled- thus leaching the best flavors of steak, lobster and vegetables. We had an 8 pm reservation but did not receive the main course until 10:30 pm and when it arrived to be boiled in the chicken broth, the waiter dumped in the red wine causing another delay of a half hour waiting for it to regain a boil. A couple bites and no one wanted any more. Felt so ripped off that no one wanted to stay for dessert. Luckily our snailish waiter had the gaul to say "fondue is not for everyone" my estimation is "fondue is for no one in the Woodlands" as we were the only table there on a Friday night. The melting Pot is a remake of a 70's fad as bad as disco that should not last long. Go to K*irbys, F*lemings for the same money and enjoy food prepared properly. They also add in gratutity (no doubt from a history of dissatisfied customers) so be prepared for the worst from food to service.

MY REVIEW: All I can say is wow. One of the best dining experiences I have had in a long time. Our waiter, Mike, was extremely helpful and friendly, the food was delicious and the atmosphere was wonderful. Our visit was for a one year anniversary, and they made sure to make it special, the card and roses they placed on the table went over wonderfully and I plan to make another appearance in the near future.

The coq au von (sp?) was wonderful, the big night out was well worth the time and money.

MY REVIEW: I'm not quite sure why people are complaining about the pricing on Valentines Day.

The price of that is not just your normal meal. It includes a special Valentines Day four courses, a champagne toast. A framed picture of you and your loved one, a $25 gift card for a return visit and a goodie bag to take home with you. The restaurant is also always decorated extremely well for Valentines Day. At least some place in the city is attempting to make Valentines Day romantic again. Also the four courses is typically $75-$95 a couple anyways so it's actually a terrific deal.

MY REVIEW: My wife and I have been to the Melting pot many times- we started going soon after we started dating. We enjoy the atmosphere and the ability to sit and enjoy conversation together or with friends. The first time I went I was a little put off by the fondue experience but, have come to really enjoy it. We go to the Melting pot 3-4 times a year but have been going more the last year. I called to make a reservation for Feb 13th today (Jan. 25th) and was informed that they have "special" pricing for Valentines day. The special pricing was $130 for a couple and a 20% gratuity would be added to your order. I realize that valentines is a busy time of year for restaurants but, raising your prices to take advantage of people on a holiday is unacceptable. If raising your prices on a holiday isn't bad enough, they decided to raise their prices around the holiday also. I wasn't trying to make a reservation for Valentines day. I was making a reservation for the night before. I am really rather disgusted that a company would choose to take advantage of their customers like this. Next time my wife suggests going to the melting pot, you can be sure that I will suggest other places and keep my wallet far away from the pot. This is an unacceptable policy and I hope that others will take this into consideration when making dinner plans for Valentines day and the rest of the year.

MY REVIEW: This restaurant is fantastic! I love reading other reviews where people actually complain about cooking your own food...it's FONDUE RESTAURANT PEOPLE! Ignorance must be bliss! The other thing that is quite hilarious is the comments about how messy it is...where were you raised... in a barn? I've dined here with my husband & with friends and never had this "problem"...it sounds like a personal one! If the oil splatters a little, just ask to have it turned down a notch..."problem" solved! The staff is friendly the managers are always seen and ready to help with anything you may need. I've been to many restaurants all over the country and I've paid much more for food and wine and left with a really bad taste in my mouth...not here. It's romantic...the lights are dim which is so hard to find at most restaurants. I love the high back booths and everything is always extremely clean. The dining experience here is a touch longer than most but that to me is the charm of the Melting Pot. They fill up quick so call ahead at least 2 weeks ahead of time. If you are looking for a great time with excellent service and a meal you won't forget The Melting Pot is the place!

MY REVIEW: Hated it! I was expecting fine dining instead i got was an old restaurant that tried to do some updating by changing out a few light fixtures. The waitress and waitor were nice but that was it. The food was nothing to write home about but i guess it was the experience of having to cook my own food and eat it on the skewers that made it different. :-0 Perhaps i should have tried the strawbeeries with chocolate? just not worth the money. sorry.

MY REVIEW: The problem with this place is there are people, like the comments listed below and above, that make this restaurant into some kind of fine dining establishment. It is a fondue restaurant. I don't want to hear about how they are making it. I am tired of the staff asking "What special occasion are you celebrating?" I would just like to go in and enjoy my dinner. The food is good, don't get me wrong, but it is not on the same level as many of the fine Houston steak houses. To sum it all up, if you are going to the melting pot, the people who work there can not comprehend that you are just there for a simple dinner.

MY REVIEW: first time going to melting pot, they were running a coupon for the fondue feast for 2 for $60.00. consisted of a cheese fondue, salads, entree, dessert.

cheese course is made at the table served with a basket of bread cubes, a small bowl of apple cubes, and a small bowl of carrot, celery, cauliflower.

salads were nice, for the entree you must choose to cook your meat in broth or oil. the oil comes with a small bowl of batter to dip the chicken and shrimp in. we choose the basic broth, the one with special seasoning is $7.00 more. it was quite good and plenty of meat for two people. the dessert was served with a plate of strawberries, banana cubes, cake cubes, and marshmallows. we had a bottle of kendall jackson cabernet ($39.00) and two glasses of chardonnay ($9.00 each). an 18% tip is added to the bill and we gave an additional 5% bringing the total bill including tax and tip to $150.00. entire meal took almost 3 hours and we enjoyed the ambiance, lighting, and music. there were a couple of small kids but i really wouldnt bring one here. for a nice leisurly meal i would reccomend this place.

MY REVIEW: We had a family celebration at the Melting Pot and all of us had a great dining experience. It was my wife's choice for dinner to celebrate her birthday. I was apprehensive because I did not think that fondue dining was worth the price, and dining at the Melting Pot is expensive.

The menu was slightly daunting, but our server did a great job explaining how everything worked and making suggestions. We opted for a four course meal - cheese fondue with bread, fruit and veggies; some excellent salads; a main course of sirloin, salmon, teriyaki steak, chicken and shrimp with veggies; and, a fabulous chocolate fondue to end it all. The cheese fondue was my least favorite, but it was still good. The salads were very good, and the main course was fantastic. As someone else here said, the chocolate fondue was to die for.

Overall a very nice experience with good quality food and great service. It is expensive, not something you would want to pay for on a regular basis, but for a romantic evening or a celebration it is perfect.

MY REVIEW: The restaurant was absolutely phenomenal. We went to celebrate my wife's birthday and the restaurant was the perfect setting for a romantic evening with her. The ambiance was really good. The lighting was great, not too dark that you can't see who you're with but not bright at all.

The food was great. The European style cooking was an adventure to say the least. Cooking you own food in a boiling broth is always a good experience. And get ready for the chocolate fondue...

I rate the restaurant a 10!

MY REVIEW: This restaurant was chosen by my friend for her birthday meal. She had been here before and I had not and she was very excited that I try it. Being the type of person that loves new and different dining experiences, I was all over the opportunity. Arrival was easy and we were taken to our seats right away. The ambiance was superb and very tastefully decorated, high class all the way. I would highly recommend reservations for this place as it does get crowded and it is not a huge place. Our waiter was excellent, very versed and trained well in the presentation of every aspect, from the wine, to the attentiveness, to the instruction on how to do everything...5 stars.

We chose the "Big Night Out" for our meal which consists of the chesse, the salad, the meat, and the dessert. The selections of cheese were impressive, but me being a bit finicky on cheese, we went simple and chose the cheddar. Simply YUMMY! The bread was fresh and varied, the cheese was melted beautifully, perfect...5 stars. Next was the salad which was a Mandarin type salad...superb, actually the best salad I have ever had...5 stars. Next was the meats, now unless you do this many times and have your methos down on timing, it can be a bit difficult to get the desired result every time, especially if you are engaged in conversation and having a good time...you tend to forget that you are cooking something! But, we chose the Tempura style cooking batter for our selection as the last time my friend had been there she did not enjoy the broth one that she had chosen. Other than having a ton of fried meat which is a little odd, again, it was simply delicious...5 stars. Some items took longer than others, but it forced you to pace yourself in this eating experience. We arrived at 5:45 and were not finished and out the door until 9:30 if that gives you an idea, so those desiring a quick meal...this is not the place for you.

During the experience, our waiter never let our glasses get the least bit empty( we both ordered a bottle of wine for ourselves, kept in a chiller on the table, was continuously, but not annoyingly at our table to see if all was well and how everything was going...5 stars. By the time we were finished with the meat...both of us were about to explode and that was not even finishing all of the meat/veggies, etc they provided. Then came dessert. Unbelieveable decadent, yet simple. They provided a birthday candle and our waiter joined in singing Happy Birthday to my friend. After a few pieces of dessert, we were just about finished and not another bite could be swallowed. The only thing we encountered the whole time was the fact that we had asked for a "rescuer" which is a slotted spoon that they give you for those pieces of food who escape your fondue fork and jump ship into the pot! Our waiter had forgotten to get this and we jokingly reminded him when all was done...he felt terrible and took 10.00 off the bill! We had no desire for him to do this as it was not important enough to give a discount, were merely were "busting his chops". So the 10.00 taken off the meal went right to his tip... 5 stars.

Pros: EVERYTHING

Cons: NONE... except price...VERY expensive. Our meal cost over 200.00 for the 2 of us. But honestly, for a special occasion or a romantic fun night out and different dining experience it is worth every penny and would go back again in a heartbeat. Highly recommend to try at least once.

MY REVIEW: The only reason one would go here is for the romantic atmosphere. Food is average at best, dessert is simple but delicious. We had a new waiter who was training, but he did a decent job. I would definitely recommend this place for special occasions (anniversaries), but probably wouldn't go here more than once or twice a year simply because the food is a tad expensive for the quality.

MY REVIEW: This restaurant is really a nice experience for people that want to enjoy the company of their friends or significant other. Also, being a fondue restaurant, its kind of a GIVEN that you will cook your own food. I didn't find it messy in the least. One of my girlfriends wore a white gown - it remained spotless.

We ordered the Big night out and our waiter quickly brought out the cheese fondue. We had the fiesta and cheddar cheese. I loved the cheddar. Who knew apples and cheese went so well together? The California salad was very good as well. After reading the reviews about the entree, I was going in with low expectations. However, I was VERY delighted to find that everything was wonderful. My group went for the Coq au Vin and the Mojo. I think all it takes is a little bit of common sense. Since you have more than one fondue fork, if you have one item boiling while you eat, you will have a constant flow of food. Another suggestion i have heard, was to leave the vegetables at the bottom of the pot at the beginning of the meal, so that as soon as theyre cooked, you'll have a good helping throughout the entire meal. It didn't seem like a lot of food, but we really were full by the end of this course. We mostly ignored the sauces, the food was yummy on its own. DESSERT! We had the dark chocolate fondue and coffee for dessert. Really, it was just the perfect ending to a great meal.

Another thing that makes this fun is going in a group and indulging in this little fondue tradtion: If someone drops something into the bottom of the pot, they have to kiss the person next to them.

CONS: Our waiter was very attentive, our drinks were always full, however, he was slightly patronizing (I look far younger than I actually am) and continuously referred to himself as "we." Thats the worst of it.

I recommend everyone try it at least once, even if you choose not to visit again, the ambiance and experience are worth the $$.

MY REVIEW: As always, my group had a great time! We all knew it was pricey, we go once a year to celebrate, and it's well worth it for us. The food was great as usual.

We knew what to expect and how to order. If you are a "virgin" to this experience, beware of the waiter's advice!! In a group of six, as we were, the waiter gets an automatic tip, based on the total bill. In our case, he got $55, bringing our bill for six to $385.00. Keep in mind, we each had two martini's at $9.00 a drink. Be sure the waiter writes down your drink order, as they got three of our drinks wrong. Also, beware of the fine print on the menu!! The waiter will recommend two specialty cooking styles, each has a $7.00 upgrade price from the regular. Keep in mind, this is a dining experience requiring at least 2-3 hours of your time, spent it with people you like! The place is way too dark also, you can't even see if your food is cooked! Also, keep in mind the preparation, time, and amount of dishes and servings you receive, it's very costly and time consuming to put on such a production. So if you have an open mind and want to have a great time with this unique experience, be prepared and know what to expect and be prepared to open your wallet. If you don't like fine dining or spending a lot on a meal, this is not your place, go to B*urger King.

MY REVIEW: This restaurant is not about the food or the service (which can range from excellent to mediocre). The best part about the melting pot is the romantic ambiance and slow paced dining.

You will NOT dine here in under 90 minutes (unless you just order cheese and chocolate). The average for the four course meal is 2 hours, although we have taken over 2.5 hours to eat here. For my wife and I, the time it takes to dine here is the high point of the restaurant. It forces us to relax and enjoy each others company. All of the seating for couples is in high backed booths which generally are offset as much as possible from other tables. Therefore, it gives the diners as much privacy as possible. If you like these qualities, then you will most likely enjoy the restaurant.

The second half of the equation is the food. If you don't like to cook, don't come here. The complaints here and elsewhere about having to cook are ridiculous (what? you didn't realize that's what fondue is all about?). First and foremost, don't order the batter fried oil for the main entree. Get the broth, its much lighter and easier because it doesn't splatter. Second, as many have said, the main entree isn't all that great. At the end of the day, its meat boiled in a pot. I know this going in, so I'm not disappointed. The meat is high quality and can be dressed up with the various sauces. Have them make you some horseradish for the beef, its no longer served unless you ask for. The salads are not good. They have a new ceasar that wasn't as bad as the others. Nevertheless, I'm not here for the salad and usually just pick at it anyway.

The cheese and chocolate fondue are both excellent. You can't go wrong with either the swiss or cheddar fondue. All of the chocolate is good too, although we like the flaming turtle. These fondues alone are worth the trip here.

Finally, the service here ranges from great to below average. It's never really bad, but at times it is rushed and the servers can have a little too much personality, instead of remaining friendly yet professional.

In closing, we come here at least 4-5 times a year. We forgo restaurants with better food mainly because of the atmosphere and pacing. If this appeals to you, then you won't be disappointed.

MY REVIEW: I am surprised by many of the reviews here. The Melting Pot is a fondue restaurant, why wouldn't you expect to cook your own food? And, yes, the food is "pricey," but for a special night out it isn't much at all. My husband and I have loved both of our visits because we keep an open mind and we ended up loving it both times. This time we had the 4 course feast, but the most amazing part was by far the dessert. We ordered the flaming turtle. Milk chocolate, caramel and pecans served with pineapple, strawberries, cheesecake, brownies, poundcake and delicious marshmellows.

MY REVIEW: While this place is listed under American cuisine and as a romantic spot, I would classify it as neither. Fondue is a Swiss cooking style although some of what you end up doing there is more related to Mongolian Hot Pot cooking. Anyway, I don't think it's that romantic, since you end up cooking your own food and probably will end up wearing some. Don't wear your expensive clothes! It is a great date place, but is rather pricey, so be prepared. I just went with a group and we all ordered the "Big Night Out" 4 course meal. It consisted of Cheese Fondue, Salad, Entree Fondue, and Desert Fondue. That arrangement cost $44 per person. Then, with my 2 glasses of wine, one after dinner cocktail and the 18% gratuity for the large group, my bill for one person was $100. No, I did not choose the most expensive wine. As for the food, it was good. I agree with some of the other reviewers and say that next time I'm there, it will just be for the cheese and/or chocolate fondue. The meat course was anticlimactic even though our group was large enough to order all 4 types of cooking broths/methods. The meats were beef, chicken, shrimp, and lobster. All of them seemed to leave something to be desired, in my opinion and the lobster tended to be tough, no matter how short the stay in the broth. One piece I had was on the rare side and was still rather chewy. The main course also came with potatoes, mushrooms, and zucchin. I could have skipped that, especially the potatoes which took forever to cook. The cooking method that amounted to frying (Bourgoneon?) was most disappointing since the oil never got hot enough to really crisp up either batter. The Mojo and Coqu au Vin were best. Cheese course (first one) was good. We all had opinions as to our favorites. The chocolate course was all of our fave. We had the bananas foster, dark chocolate, yin/yang, and smores choices. They were all good, but honestly, I would go either with yin yang or plain ole dark chocolate. All that said, the venue still made for a festive party and everyone had a great time (many were first time fondue-ers) so that made the experience seem better. I have to say the waiter grated a bit on my nerves, since he was always saying one thing and then taking it back saying "nah, I'm kidding". Once is cute. Twelve times is aggravating. I did not increase the tip from the mandatory 18% because of that and just his general slow service.

MY REVIEW: My husband and I went to The Melting Pot to celebrate our anniversary (9 months late - but who cares - we got to celebrate it). We did the "Big Night Out". I liked the cheese fondue and the yin and yang chocolate fondue, but I wasn't crazy about the meat part. We didn't do oil, rather a broth with seasoning, but I still wasn't crazy about that part - our meat was dry - which was probably our fault, since we cooked it. The Yin and Yang was yummy - we liked that, even though we were full from everything else we had eaten.

The service was painfully slow - it took us 2-1/2 hours to get through it all. And even though we had a 7:30 pm reservation, on a Monday night, we didn't get seated until almost 8:00 pm - and that, I don't understand.

I have to agree with another reviewer. The next time I go back (don't think my husband will go back) I will go for the cheese fondue and chocolate fondue - skip the rest!

MY REVIEW: My first visit to the Melting Pot was very nicely laid out by my partner. It was my birthday and they attendants were very nice. We had one of the specials that included the Cheese, Salad, and various meat and such. BEing that I cook every night for my family I wasn't impressed with having to cook in a restaurant. The dinner selection for 2 that we got was enough food for 4 people. We had to waste quite a bit of our food because we were off to a play as well and were not able to cook it all. We were also dressed nicely and I felt kind of greasy after doing all that work. We were not impressed by our waiter who kept sniffing and messing with his nose and talking 90 words a minute when we asked for explanation on how to do the cooking etc...we felt like we were not getting it right, and he wasn't patient enough to guide us.

Had I understood the selection and how it all worked I would not have ordered the selection we ordered because everything was fried.

THAT said we WILL go back again and choose just a cheese and dessert selection. The cheese fondue we had was the best we had ever tasted.

MY REVIEW: My boyfriend took me here for our one year anniversary. We were having a great time until our very unprofessional waiter asked if we were celebrating anything. We told him we were, he asked if we were married and we said no not yet, and he said "oh, that's probably why you are having such a great time". He then proceeded to make comments like that including, "don't ever get married it'll ruin your relationship" all night. Even told us about his own failed marriage. My boyfriend and I are older and have been discussing marriage and these comments ruined the feeling going on for us that night. Not to mention, the experience is fun but as far as the food goes, very bland.
