MY REVIEW: I was looking for a restaurant that was different from my normal establishments. Potato Patch met my search request for a new dinner spot.

We got there on Saturday night about 7:30 and the waiting area was full. Table wait time was 45-minutes. The place was packed.

As my party of twelve maneuvered through the maze of tables to our dining area, there was a hilarious gentle tossing hot yeast rolls at us to catch. That was funny and playful. As the evening went on, we started really getting into the roll toss.

After we ordered, the waitress brought out a complementary appetizer with fried green tomatoes and fried okra. It was a hit with my family. I thought it was a little greasy. I had another roll tossed at me and forgot about the greasy green tomatoes and okra.

There was something ordered from all over the menu and I only heard a negative complaint about one meal. The Hawaiian Chicken plate could not be finished nor was it worth taking home in a doggie bag. The chicken breast was over cooked and the texture was tough. It lacked flavor from the spices used in the marinating. The teriyaki sauce that covered the chicken was bland like it may have been thinned out with water to stretch.

The Chicken Fried Chicken, Pork Chops, Fried and Grill Catfish got the yummiest sounds when we shared plates.

We did not order desert because there was a gentleman tossing hot complementary blueberry, strawberry, and chocolate chip muffins. Oweee!!!

I only had two concerns about the restaurant. One, the restrooms needed serious attention. The paper towel dispenser was empty, there was urine on the floor near the urinal, trash cans were over flowing, and there was no toilet paper. (Probably because customers like me used it to dry off our hands after washing them.) Two, the table was sticky to the touch. I gave them the benefit of doubt because the place way pack and I could see the entire staff was moving with a purpose.

Our waitress had a great personality. The pricing for the meal makes it easy to decide on coming back. Just about every plate was under $10, except for the steak meals.

I’m going to try Potato Patch again. On my next trip, I will speak with the manager and not return if the restrooms are in shambles.

MY REVIEW: This used to be a favorite for co-workers and myself. The last few visits the staff was quite rude. They acted like they were doing us a favor to wait on us. Maybe management could be short staffing? I just know there are 2 extremely skinny, testy, plane rude, female waitress. Stay out of their section if you can!

MY REVIEW: It's been a while since my last visit, and I agree with previous reviews about both the chicken fried steak & green tomatoes being too thin. But I quess that, in a way, I shouldn't complain too much because the tomatoes are complimentary and the all-you-can-eat CFS is only $11. Still, I remember when both were cut thicker and were better because of it.

"Throwed" rolls were hot and good as ever as were blueberry muffins. Service was good and folksy, just as I remembered.

Sides didn't fare as well. Squash was ok, but baked potato was barely hot enough to melt the butter & cheese.

They had a sign saying, "Voted Best CFS". I'm not sure who proclaimed that or when?? But I can't imagine that it was recent. There was nothing terrible about my meal, including the price, but I remember taking friends and family when the CFS & green tomatoes weren't sliced so paper thin.

MY REVIEW: I think I am gonna have to agree with JD in a previous review, My familiy has been coming to the PP off and on for years, they don't know my name but we have been more than 4-6 times. We live outside of Conroe so when we pass 1960 we always detour and stop by for Fried Green Tomatoes, well, I will admit its probably been 6 mos or so since weve been by, when did they turn in to Tomatoe Chips. The closest I could liken them to would be really greasy potatoe chips and for 3 orders. Walkin out with $17.00 worth of chips was overkill. I don't mind paying, but the product was so below par. They should advertise them as Tomatoe Chips now instead of Fried Green Tomatoes. I would think it was a mistake but 3 boxes full of these chips you could almost see through is by design not by error. I will hunt for a place closer to Conroe or maybe head to the S*plendora Cafe I hear they have really good Fried Green Tomatoes. I'll be back to let ya'll know

MY REVIEW: have eaten there several times.everything was great the first time but seemed to decline as visits progressed.today was the last straw.the(little boat of green tomatoes and okra)was reheated and dried out, very hard outside and tough.the rolls were slow and not hot and only(one serving for 5 of us)had to ask for muffins and they were 15 mins in coming and they were cold.2 had pot roast(was very good)1 had pork chops(tasty but very thin) 1 had chef salad(was good). I had the chicken fried steak. This steak was so thin (was nearly as thin as the slices of cheese on the salad)the breading on it was thick had enough grease to fry another one.I honestly think it was recooked because it wasnt very hot ,Now about the price, when i go out to eat I get what I want to eat and whatever it cost I pay but the food should measure up in quality.todays trip will be the last for me because there are better places closer to Conroe

MY REVIEW: It's been years since I had lunch at the Potatoe Patch but met a friend there today. I found the food to be perfectly eatable. I didn't see anythign particularly "low impact" as we had the spicy fried chicken strips with a side of fried okra and macaroni. Very attentive wait staff, those "throwed" rolls, reasonable prices...it was a good experience all around.

We had a good experience.

MY REVIEW: I have been several times since they have moved to the new location, it has gotten worse every visit. The waiter was lousy he came once to fill up our drinks. I called him back a second time to get my grandson a refill on his dixie cup size drink, I was informed it would be $2.25 I declined. At the time my tea glass was empty and he didn't offer to fill it. We had to ask for plates for our rolls, and also the butter. Nobody offered ketchup for the fries, and there were 2 children under 5 at the table. I was going to complain to the cashier, but she was talking on the phone the entire time that we were paying. I will not go back and I will recommend the same to everyone that I know.

MY REVIEW: This was my first visit in the new building. Did not know what to expect. When we got there parking lot was about 90@ full, but walked right in and was seated. Drink orders taken and food was at the table within 15 minutes of being seated.

I had Chickenfried Chicken & my husband had Chickenfried Steak. Both were very good, as were the Veg.s and the rolls, okra, & fried tomatoes. Could not beat it for $20.,for the two of us for lunch. We are seniors.

MY REVIEW: What has happened to the Potato Patch? I brought a group of 19 people for breakfast (10) miles driving time. The reservation was made the day before. We were jammed against the wall even though there was a room that was empty. It took 30 minutes to get water and coffee, and our order in. another 40 minutes for food to come out. My scrambled eggs were dry and cold. On person ordered a pancake and it never came.I did try talking to the manager who had excuses but took no responsibility for the fiaso. The man in the beverage room did bring the coffee pot and gave us refills when I asked him to do so. I think the manager at least owed us the courtesy to apoligize and perhaps comp our beverages. We have a large group and will NOT BE BACK.

MY REVIEW: This is the first time we visited them since they moved to a new location. I had the Chicken Caesar Salad and my husband had the Pot Roast plate. They were both delicious. Great value for amount of the food you get. The only problem is our server was not very friendly. It looks like she had a long day. We will definitely be back.

MY REVIEW: I started eating at the Potato Patch when they first opened next to Wieners. A little hole in the wall place that had great food and atmosphere. The owner would serve us and tell us jokes about a fellow that really liked their Lemon soup (finger bowl) and his wife would take our money on the way out. The food was great and we really enjoyed going there weekly.

The place started growing. He aquired another section of the lease space and stated growing. He hired kids to wait tables and the service started to decline. I hated to see this because it was my favorite place to go out and eat.

The business kept growing and the service and the food declided. I haven't been there in quite a few years because of the bad service I got. We decided to try it again since they moved to the new location and wanted to see if anything had changed.

The new place is all nice and shiny, nothing like the upside down flower pots that they used for lampshades when they started the place. The food was not that great. The cook seems to think if you put hot gravy on cold mashed potates then everything is allright. Fried green tomatoes were soaked in grease at the table. The roll boy never got the rolls to our table.

I don't think I'll ever go back. I can't believe that the same people own this place.

MY REVIEW: Met friends for lunch there today. Big disappointment. The only flavor to the gravy on the CF steak was salt - and lots of it. The gravy tasted like corn starch and water with lots of salt. The steak was thin and still tough. The quality of food at this establishment has declined considerably since they moved from the old location. The hot rolls are still the best around but I can't go there just for rolls. I keep giving them a second chance and continue to be disappointed. I won't be going back.

MY REVIEW: This was my first time at this place. By what I had seen and tasted WE WILL be back. The service was good; the food was good and hot. They came around for rolls every few minutes. True it may be longer in between when it is busier, oh well. Lot of you complained on here because you do not get as much free okra and tomatoes, and then complain because of higher prices. Put 2 and 2 together!!

The reasons do not pay a much attention to the whiners is simple as this. Reading the comments several had said we go there all the time BUT this last time will be our last! Some People are shallow, a person or place has a off day and they are condemned for it forever.

By the way what we had gotten was well worth the money.

WE WILL BE BACK

MY REVIEW: My family and I love the Potatoe Patch. It was a real treat to go here for Mother's Day. We placed our order and while waiting we enjoyed the complimentary serving of fried okra and fried green tomatoes along with the throwed rolls and muffins. The staff is very attentive and service is quick. Our food was delicious and the prices were very reasonable. I was wished Happy Mother's Day several times. My family and I will definitely be coming back again!

MY REVIEW: Of and on for years, my traveling bowling team would eat here on a Sunday evening; not anymore! Since they moved to their own location from the strip center down the street, this place has gone down worse from the last visit for the last three years. They use to come around with all kinds of extras and now it is mainly muffins. We were there for over two hours and they came around once each for Fried green tomatoes and fried okra...VERY DISAPPOINTING!!! What has happened to this place? It was so good and reasonable and now more expensive and less service and food? I hope the owner reads this and makes corrections because I am reading others with similar expereiences. This is a neat restaurant that I hope to see new and better reviews before I drive from Cypress to come over again!!!
