Seabrook Classic Cafe

MY REVIEW: They usually have great food, but my husband and I went there for breakfast. I ordered the Spinach and Mushroom Omlet. It was terrible. It looked like something that came off Gordon Ramsey Kitchen Nightmares! I cut into my omlet and somethign oozed out it's what they called spinach and mushroom. It looked like they tried to make creamed spinach which tasted like gravey. I might be back, if I do I will definately order something else!

MY REVIEW: I had almost forgotten about this place - if itis indeed the same place I remembered before Ike.
Very fast service as I rememebred and great Chicken Fried Steak!
They even have a healthy menu for those who are somehow interested.

MY REVIEW: Strong points, fast & friendly service, & nice selection on the menu. On the advice of a local who'd dined here before, I stopped to meet friends who were not from Houston on a Sunday around noon; place was moderately busy and we were pressed for time. Fortunately, the servers were great and we received our burgers and sandwiches really quick - good quality food and excellent value.
Weak points, can be easy to pass by due to the location and traffic on NASA 1, but no complaints on the food.
I'll definitely be back!

MY REVIEW: We went to a wedding down in the Kemah area, and when we asked the people at the Hilton Hotel to direct us to a Mom and Pop operation, they could not think of any (and only offered chain restaurants). We decided to take a chance and just drive down the road into Seabrook and see what we came upon. From the outside, the Classic Cafe met our expectations and the breakfast we had exceeded our expectations.
We started with an order of beinets (spelling wrong - but you know, the powdered French/Louisian donuts) - YUM! Then we split an Egg Monique dish that had crab cakes. Another YUM! Then the typical orange juice and coffee.
Our service was great. I asked about the pies and sure enough they were homemade. On our way back from Galveston that afternoon, we stopped in Seabrook to get some fresh shrimp and made our last stop to get a piece of pumpkin pie from Classic Cafe to split for dessert that night. What can I say? You guessed it - YUM!

MY REVIEW: We're local and know that the Classic has the best seafood in the area before you start talking about the price. The fried shrimp, crab cakes, and very special clam chowder keeps us coming back. The prices are low and the service is friendly. I do have to give a shout out to the bacon bleu cheeseburger and fries. Yummy!

MY REVIEW: Now I've been going here regularily for the past 31 years and have been a happy customer until now. Last week my boyfriend and I came here to eat for the last time. I ordered the meatloaf and it was the worst meatloaf i've ever had. It was rubbery with no flavor and cut like it was in a cake tin and stood up against the mashed potatoes. I took 2 bites and almost lost it. sent it back and lost the appetite. The food has gone down in quality and quantity. Not impressed anymore and wondering if its under new ownership or management. Please people go back to the old menu which is what carried you over all these years. Dont try to be like other places and offer higher prices for worse quality. This will not help your business at all. Too bad and will never go back again.

MY REVIEW: This restaurant is a local favorite for Seabrook. We are in here regularly because the food is consistently good and fairly priced. I love the fish tacos(fried), the bleu cheese burgers, breakfast, crab cakes, fried shrimp, and the clam chowder is some of the best anywhere--make sure to order the bread for dipping in the chowder. This is a comfortable, casual diner experience where everyone is laid back and friendly.

MY REVIEW: Look no more!!! This is one of the best restaurants in the area. My family and I haven been eating here for years and it just keeps getting better and better each time. If you love good home cooking...the kind that sticks to your ribs and makes you feel that you've spent your money wisely, this is the place for you. The chicken is to die for (I've ordered it both grilled and fried) the seafood is very fresh (unlike some of the Kemah waterfront restaurants), excellent burgers and fries (better than F*udd's or T*ookie's pre-Hurricane Ike), the appetizers are very appetizing and the service is excellent. You can't go wrong. I highly recommend this place - isn't it obvious? =).

MY REVIEW: Casual and easy place to eat with food fit for a king, yet patrons can dress down after a day on the water. My favorite is their almond crusted shrimp with homemade honey mustard sauce. Truly unique and delicious. We live about 55 miles but make the trip about once a month since discovering this quaint and comfortable place. The pies look great but I have always been too full to try them! The service is superb. Many of the waitstaff have been there for several years.

MY REVIEW: As new residents in the area, we have tried eating here many times(mostly to go). The food is inconsistent at best. The pie IS great. We have ordered many different items and are yet to be impressed. Well, the breakfast can be good. The mashed potatoes are barely even mashed. It's like a baked potato that was pressed with a fork, then covered in gravy.Bland. Blah. There is usually at least 2-3 items missing in the to go food, which is irritating for someone who tips the same for To-Go as dine in. How hard is it, really?
The waitstaff seems to be the same every time we go, so that is a plus (and/or must mean most ppl haven't had the experiences my wife, children & I have).

MY REVIEW: It's been 3-4 years since I was last there, so I'm counting this as 1st visit. Looking for a place to have late lunch. Drove by SCC so decided to have their famous Benson Burger I enjoyed many times years ago. I guess I remembered SCC as a great burger/CFS place, so was surprised to see so much seafood on the menu. Had to try, so ordered fisherman's platter to get a taste of several items. Started with a cup of pretty fair seafood gumbo----thick like I like it. The fried shrimp were large and delicious----some of the best in the Bay Area. Oysters were rolled in cormeal like they should be (hate it when places try to reinvent fried oysters). But they were fried a little too long, dried out. There were a couple of good sized crab balls (fried), maybe they called them crab cakes, not sure. Not bad----never gonna be confused with Maryland-style crab cakes such as are served at V*alentino's----but not bad, spicey and you get a taste of crab meat every now and then. There was an almond-crusted shrimp. Not my taste, but my wife is not supposed to eat corn (cornmeal), so the almond shrimp may be a good alternative for her. A little dry for my taste, but I appreciate SCC going outside the box. What I can't appreciate was that awful excuse for blackened Mahi-Mahi. This was the thinnest, dryest, hardest piece of fish anybody ever attempted to blacken. Worse blackened I ever had, and I thought I'd had bad-- until today. The mashed potatoes were almost as dry----I realize they were prepared for the lunch crowd, and it is now 3 hours later; but how hard could it be to heat up a little milk and butter to reconstitute what was a pretty good batch of homemade mashed taters 2-3 hours ago? I mean I was the only customer there so there's no excuse for the cook to serve dry, barely warm mashed potatoes or to grill the fish into oblivion. Wish I would have gone with my initial inclination and ordered the burger.

MY REVIEW: This has been our favorite cafe for many years. and we have gone through its ups and downs. Fortunately, it is in an up stage. The Chicken Garden Salad is the best anywhere, the Gumbo, the mashed potatoes on the plate specials, the Almond Shrimp dinner, the French Dip sandwich and Benson Burger (jalapenos and horseradish)and of course, the fantastic pies are items to dream about. Prime rib used to be served on Tuesdays but it it available every day on the new menu. There is always a fresh fish special, often topped with crab or shrimp and a variety of sauces. Crowded and noisy, it is the place to run into neighbors and meet new people while crowded in the entry awaiting a table. The Classic is a place you can afford to visit often.

MY REVIEW: The food here is good, the service excellent! The food is as close to home cooking as you're likely to get in a restaurant. They have good specials, like the crawfish enchilladas. Try the avocado Margarita!
