MY REVIEW: Wife and I arrived 10 minutes early for our reservation on a Saturday evening and were seated immediately. Wife had informed them we were celebrating our anniversary and we were treated to a complimentary photo and table greeting. The wait staff was attentive, but not over zealous and addressed us by name.

Wife had the Filet Oscar and it was incredible. It was so tender she actually cut a piece off with her fork for me to try. I had the Steak Poivre and it too was excellent, although not as delicious as her filet. We had mushrooms and augratin potatoes for sides. The portions are huge, one side is plenty. We were going to order a creme broulet for desert but as we finished our meal, the waiter brought out a complimentary anniversary desert, the cream broulet. It was excellent also. Over all, a very pleasant experience. We will go back. The tab including 2 glasses of wine, with 20% tip added was an even 200 bucks.

MY REVIEW: In my opinion, the best steakhouse in Houston. I'm an average Joe-- just finished undergrad, getting ready to go to law school and for the most part, I am not accustomed to over-the-top service. I don't feel incredibly slighted if the waiter doesn't refill my glass every 10 minutes but will say something if my glass is empty and the waiter has not come around. That being said, I didn't have any problem with the service at Capital Grille for Valentine's Day when I took my girlfriend out to celebrate. The service was great-- not overbearing but attentive and informative. That's all I require for service.

The food was unbelievable. We shared the crab and lobster cakes which I thought were absolutely amazing. I've had crab cakes at a few restaurants in Houston, some top steakhouses, top New American restaurants, top French bistros, etc. but these were the best I've ever tasted. The Delmonico steak (bone-in ribeye) was also the best steak I've ever had in my life and I've been to most of the big steakhouses in Houston. Unfortunately, my girlfriend ordered a veal chop without the sauce and it looks kinda dry and gross. Looking back, she probably should have used the sauce.

My one gripe with this restaurant is the sides. They are just not exceptional like everything else. The mashed potatoes were extremely plain and comparable a certain fast food joint from Boston. The mushrooms were just bland. For dessert we had key lime pie and that was pretty good overall.

Overall, I judge restaurants by food and service. When going to a restaurant such as the Capital Grille, I realize I might spend $200 on two, which is why it is such a rare occasion that I do frequent such a restaurant. Price is not relevant to the experience. For service, in terms of when we were seated and our server himself, I'd rate it a very solid 7.5. For food, I'd rate it a 9.0 and the 1 point deduction coming from the sides only.

Save this restaurant for the special occasion you'll have once a year.

MY REVIEW: We went to Capital Grille to celebrate our engagement and were thrilled with the choice. We started off with champagne in the bar, which is lovely. Then headed to our booth. Our specially requested booth had been taken by a rather rude customer who insisted he be seated first, but luckily the quick on her feet hostess prepared another one for us that was perfect. Seeing as though we were celebrating and in a good mood, we didn't mind getting a second choice booth. We started out with the crab & lobster cakes, which were the low point of the evening for sure. They were overdone, and over-breaded. OH! Speaking of bread, the bread basket is wonderful and varied.

I ordered the 10oz filet and my fiance' had the NY Strip. He had to send his back as it was underdone (he ordered medium-rare and it came out rare), but once he got it back it was perfection. My filet was wonderfully cooked medium rare seasoned just slightly with pepper and a light brown sauce. We shared a side of the creamed spinach which was easily enough for 4 people. It was very good as well. The wine list is very vast and very reasonably priced! We were impressed with the selection and ordered a wonderful Cab about 50% over retail. Which if you dine out a lot, you know that's a decent mark-up.

After we finished our dinner, our waiter brought us over a absolutely delicious flourless chocolate cake, on the house, to celebrate our engagement. It was a wonderful gesture made all the better by several of the wait staff coming over to congratulate us.

Capital Grille certainly isn't a cheap night out, but for special occasions, it's certainly worth the splurge.

MY REVIEW: This is the best steak house in Houston. The service staff and the food never lets me down. When entertaining clients I have to have to know what I am getting. I'm never disappointed the Grille! Keep it up!

MY REVIEW: My wife and I were very pleased with the service and food at Capital Grille. The service was excellent, at no time was the waiter hovering over us, but if we needed him he was there. I had the tuna steak and my wife had the 10oz filet. Both were cooked just the way we asked. Great surrounding, very quiet.

We will be back!

MY REVIEW: My wife and I went here for our anniversary. We started off with the calamari and my wife, who can't stand calamari, and I LOVED it. The portion was huge and it was just cooked perfectly. I had the dry aged porterhouse and my wife had the filet. My wife very much enjoyed her filet. I was absolutely blown away by the dry-aged beef. It was perfectly cooked and had a deep rich almost nutty flavor to it. (I have been to R*th Chr*s, V*c N Anth*ny's, Fl*ming's and while the steaks were good, the steak at the Capital Grille was by far the best).

The sides we chose were the lobster mac and cheese which for me would have been better without the lobster (but then I don't care for lobster) and the potatoes au gratin which was just ok for me. We finished with the creme brulee, and although I am not a big fan of dessert, I thought it was absolutely fabulous.

The real star of the evening was our waiter, he made some great recommendations (including a Cabernet I really enjoyed), he really provided the best service I have ever experienced. The one down side to the whole experience was that the evening did start out at a high noise level, there was a group of businessman next to us making a lot of noise. Not sure what the management could do to change that other than to tell people to shut it.

Overall, one of the best meals I've ever had. Definitely worth trying the dry aged beef. Yum!

MY REVIEW: Perhaps prior reviewers may have seen some 'dip' in food quality and service... but we had not been there in a while and found the service excellent as was the food. The Kona Steak is one of the best steaks in Houston and was outstanding and perfectly cooked - we shared an excellent Wedge Salad and the waiter recommended Potato's Au Gratin were again, excellent. Our waiter, Eddie, was attentive and on top of things, but not overbearing... quite good. Overall an excellent experience, and... we were looking for the worst because of some of the reviews over the last few months... did not see any of that. We will be back!!

MY REVIEW: We've visited on special occasion and not so special occastion, but the last two (2) times my birthday and his, to say that the food and service were there is an a joke. My Filet Oscar on my birthday, couldn't even cut it with the steak knife. His birthday, they couldn't seat us in the dining room, but the bar was almost empty and so we went there. The waitresses could have cared less, they were too busy talking with each other and when one deemed to wait on us, she was too busy putting a table cloth on another table. No water, silverware, no bread or butter. When we were asked if there was something wrong the assistant manager came over and again, could have cared less. I guess when you spend $150.00 on dinner for two, your business is not appreciated. We won't be back, that's for sure

MY REVIEW: Each of our party of 9 were highly dissappointed by the food which "promised" to be exceptional. I would rate the food average at best. For my taste an elegant restaurant suggests enough quiet ambience so as to be able to hear your dinner guests. The raucous atmosphere not only contributed to but equalled the T*GIF quality of the food. Sorry, corn starch is not the main ingredient I want to taste in my "superb" lobster bisque. But what do I expect-- I heard this is one of "w"'s favorite places. Hee-haw!!!!!

MY REVIEW: We really like this steak house. The lamb is wonderful, not gamey and always perfectly cooked. The filet is always delicious, even when prepared medium well. The service is good and the atmosphere is peaceful and appetizing. Overall, we believe Capital Grille is consistant, and provides a great meal for the price.

They could improve on their Whiskey Sours, not delicious, and I would personally prefer a cold salad plate to the luke warm one we always receive.

Otherwise, go early, and enjoy!

MY REVIEW: Last visit for me. I would like to tell you about the food, but I never got any. Does a restaurant have any responsibility to honor a reservation which is offered by them at a time picked by them. We arrived on time and was told they are running behind. How late? Oh, maybe 30 minutes. After standing there for 45 minutes and two drinks later ($9.00 for well drinks)we left. Is not a reservation a verbal contract between you and the restaurant - yet all you can do when the restaurant does not perform is wait or leave. Well, we left and went to another restaurant in the area. When I gave the car to the valet, I memtioned we had been some where else and was never seated and he said we get a lot of people from Capital Grill. Maybe it will change now that Capital Grill is owned by Darden who own Red L*obster, and O*live Garden.

Food - excellent, so too the wine menu. Ambiance is perfect; I went for a family dinner and then again with my husband. Well priced for a formal night out.

MY REVIEW: The Capital Grille is THE place my husband and I go to for a very special evening. We go about three times a year for things like birthdays and anniversaries. The food is absolutely spot-on. The bread basket is overflowing with different types of wonderful bread, and the butter is to die for! I love the steak that is peppercorn-crusted with Courvosiar (sp?) sauce. They cook the steaks just like you like them. Order one side for two people - the sides are huge! I love the white chocolate mousse for dessert, and their creme brulee is the best I've ever had. I can't say enough about the food, the service, and the ambiance. It is my favorite fine dining experience ever. Go to the Capital Grille - you won't regret it!

MY REVIEW: OK we gave Capital Grill a second chance dispite a sub-par first visit and I must confess that the steaks were excellent this time. For the record, in my review of our first visit (see below) I was complaining that my $94 dinner was "only" as good as, for example, an Outb*ck (although I didn't name names) porterhouse steak and our meager-sized baked potato was NOT so large as for two to share as the waiter suggested. And the reason we did not enjoy our steaks on our first visit was because they were NOT very good. I am amazed that others would be so bold as to question the intent of other reviewers??

So regarding our second visit, our steaks were perfectly cooked and the side we shared was ample (not the small baked potato again) for two. All-in-all this IS what we expected for $100+ night out - and Capital Grill delivered. Kudos!

Will we be back? I'm not sure, we are batting .500 at The Capital Grill - those odds are too low for the cost and the available competition. There are other "nice steakhouses" in town where we have never, or rarely been disappointed.

For Ray in Kingwood on both our recent visits we were seated in booths without asking.

MY REVIEW: This was our first trip to Capital Grille. We were looking for a quiet, elegant steak house and the reviews we read lead us to believe this was the place. We were seated at a small round table, with one just like it beside us and another behind us. Even the most quiet conversation could be heard by the surrounding guests, and worse, we could hear theirs. I was sitting closer to the two people behind me than I was to my wife. I don't know if this is the normal table set up, but if I had to put up with the same atmosphere again free dinner would be to expensive! (Especially after our "dinner companions" had their second martini.)

The food and service were excellent. Our waiter was very attentive and well informed. The steaks were cooked exactly as requested and delicious. The lobster bisque was thick and creamy, but only had one piece of claw meat. The waiter did bring sweet sherry to top it off, adding to the flavor.

We will ask friends that have been what the normal seating arrangements are. If we were seated in a booth, we would probably go back. But at a quality establishment, you should not have to "know the ropes" to have a nice experience the first time out.

MY REVIEW: I dine frequently at the Capital Grille, and each time am blown away by the superb service and mouth-watering steaks and side items. I would like to point out to the reviewer below that if he/she thinks that a $94 dinner bill makes this the "most overpriced restaurant we've ever eaten at" it seems unlikely that he/she dines at nice steakhouses very often, as the Capital Grille's prices are comparable with those of other high-quality steakhouses in the area. If you are pinching pennies, for goodness' sake, do go to Out*back! How can you possibly enjoy a nice steak if you are mentally calculating the tab with each bite?

Tender filet with fig essence + creamed spinach + lobster mac & cheese + chocolate hazelnut cake = Happiness!

P.S. Out of all of the interesting, delicious salads on the menu, you apparently ordered the house salad (the only average salad on the entire menu!) - and I suspect that this was because it was a dollar or two cheaper than some of the other salads.

Relaxing and enjoying yourself = Priceless

MY REVIEW: I'll cut to the chase - the most overrated overpriced restaurant we've ever eaten at! Period! We knew that it would be expensive going in; but based on the expectation of superb steaks we went anyway. But $94 for two steaks (average at best), one salad and one side dish!!! No appetizer, no drinks, no dessert, split one salad and one side - $94?? For sub-par steaks?? You've got to be kidding!

I ordered the Porterhouse steak, my date ordered the Fillet. Both were average at best; I've had better on occasion at Outb*ack and always at T*oT. The salad consisted of mixed greens and cherry tomatoes only (an $8 "value"); the baked potato was excellent I will point out. The service was exemplerary (among the best I've ever received!). But we went for the expected superb steaks; not merely for service and a baked potato.

Bottom Line: I see no reason to ever return and pay exhorbitant prices for such subpar steaks. A major major disappointment.

2 average Steaks + 1 Salad + 1 Baked Potato = $94 ??

MY REVIEW: good "guys" kinda place..... strong drinks, great steaks, adequate service, gennerally an overall quality dining experience.... I would definitely choose the filet over the ribeye.... now one thing I did not know (see review below)... is how do you cook a steak "Philadelphia"? I will have to ask for that next time... I have had it cooked "Pittsburgh"... guess we shall see

MY REVIEW: Best Steaks and Chops restaurant in the city. Have always been a P*alm devotee until Capital Grille opened. The lamb chops are superb-cooked exactly the way you like them first time out of the kitchen. Very tender without any fat. The wedge was also excellent. My husband (who frequents all the top steak houses) says this has the best Filet. He likes his cooked "Philadelphia" so it has to be very Prime. Two very "Thumbs Up."

MY REVIEW: It was our first visit here and we were in a party of 10. The atmosphere in the restaurant is horrible if you are in a large party. Our waiter was not very friendly--he had an attitude with us. The service was less than desirable as well. We had to wait forever to get drink refills. The Kona steak was good (B*ackstreet Cafe's Coffee crusted steak is just as good), but the Lobster bisque and crabcakes were not good at all (very bland). P*appadeux's lobster bisque is 100% better than theirs, and C*arrabba's crabcakes are to die for. I was very disappointed in the quality of the food for the price. The service and atmosphere were not good either. I will not eat here again. It was a waste of our money for a "fine" dining experience.

MY REVIEW: WONDERFUL!! I like to be pampered, our waiter was very attentative and did just that! The food was simply, SPECTACULAR! Very large portions and cooked to perfection and a very extensive wine menu. The ambiance was so soothing and romantic. This is my kind of "FINE DINING". S*ullivan's is now my 2nd favorite steakhouse. It was just a devine evening. I'm eager to return.

MY REVIEW: The food here is absolutely stunning. We've been a few times and my husband took me there last week for our anniversary. I can't say enough how much I love this place, especially the calamari and tuna tartar. Service has always been exceptional, but we request the same server when we can and that helps. The wine list is wonderful, and we're always satisfied with whatever we order. Pricey if you're not used to dining at steak houses of this calibar, but well worth every penny.

MY REVIEW: Went there for a company dinner. Food was excellent, especially the steaks. Prices are in line with other 'top' steakhouses ($30-45). The menu is actually fairly short, especially when compared to the extensive wine list. The wine is overpriced with barely anything under $50/bottle.

Desserts were excellent as well.

MY REVIEW: Had dinner at the Capital Grille with a good friend. Of course, even with a reservation, they sat two women at the worst table near the door. We asked for a better table and were given a tiny spot right next to the waiter's station. After we griped about the way two women get treated by nearly every restaurant in Houston, we tried the bread and it was delicious. Our waiter was very attentive and explained how each steak is aged and prepared. We ordered the sliced sirloin and the sirloin au proive and the sauces were excellent. My salad however could not compete with the lettuce wedge at S*ullivan's. There was merely bottled bleu cheese dressing and no crumbled bleu cheese. The evening was OK overall. The steaks were delcious and perfectly prepared, the mashed potatoes were creamy and buttery and the key lime pie was decadent. We'd try Capital Grille again, but probably not before returning to S*ullivan's for better treatment and better atmosphere.

MY REVIEW: My boyfriend took me here for the first time last night and it was an excellent dining experience. We were seated in the lounge (on our request) in a quiet little nook in the back. It was very romantic. The service was very good and so was the food. I ordered clam chowder which was very good and the assortment of bread was fantastic. For an entree I let my boyfriend order for me and he chose the swordfish which was delicious and a huge portion. Our creamed spinach and mashed potatoes were excellent as well. I have no complaints and would definetly return for another visit.
