Park Cafe - Crowne Plaza Hotel I-10 West

MY REVIEW: BTW, this is now a Crowne Plaza. The buffet is one of the best bargains around! It varies from day to day and includes hot entrees, salad bar, pasta bar & dessert bar (all are included in price, along with beverage.) Chef keeps coming up with interesting dishes to tempt the palate. The menu items I have tried reflect the same quality.

I would rate the food from good to excellent, based on personal taste. It is always hot and always well-presented. My favorite is the pasta bar; the marinara sauce is delicious, with lots of options to add (chicken, shrimp, fresh herbs, cheese)... I even get extra cheese when I ask!

The dessert bar is the first you see when you enter; smart planning! The servers will tell you when a big crowd is expected so you can get your dessert early.

The hotel has a seafood buffet most Friday nights, and a champagne brunch on Sundays. Both are wildly popular. Although I haven't tried the brunch, the seafood buffet is fabulous! It's not as inexpensive as the lunch buffet, but the crab, lobster, scallops, etc. are wonderful. If you're hungry enough, it's worth it!

Service is excellent - attentive but inobtrusive. The servers are mostly friendly & outgoing. They try their best to accommodate, whether it's a large group, preferred seating, etc. Many of the hotel's employees have been there for years. It's great to see the camaraderie among them and to hear how they appreciate each other. Go there often enough, and you'll see hotel management entertaining clients there - that says something for their confidence in the restaurant.

The ambiance is peaceful, even with a crowd (although some groups can get loud). We usually go around 11:15 AM, when it's fairly empty, to avoid lines at the buffets. The decor is not to my personal taste, but that is changing this year to reflect the upgrade to Crowne Plaza.

All in all, lunch at the Park Cafe is a pleasant, delicious dining experience.
