MY REVIEW: The food generally is good. I have tried the smothered chicken, oxtails, pork chops and they are all good. The food is the strong point. But instead of calling it , This Is It, I call it That WAS It!!!
THE RUDE SERVICE is the OVERWHELMING POINT! When I last went in June they had moved to their new location. In the old location, the menu was on the wall, in the new location there was no menu. The glass on the steam table had steamed up, the lady behind the counter (with a Jheri curl - she had worked there for years) offered no assistance but stood there looking at me with a sullen look. She then helped someone else behind me and talked about how I was taking too long to make up my mind!
I reported this to the owner, he apologized and said he hoped I would come back. I plan to NEVER GO BACK. The staff acts like they are doing you a favor by serving you and taking your money. They are very unproffessional.
They are also the reason that a friend who had been there as a new customer, said he would never come back. That was IT!
This Is IT needs to explain to its staff what Customer Service means!

MY REVIEW: ALthough i love the food here, I was dissapointed by the staff. Rude, very short spoken, and not helpful. I took one of my friends to dinner with me, and was embarrassed because i spoke so highly of this restaurant. The two servers kept talking trash to eachother in front of the customers. I really like the food here, but will think twice before inviting anyone else along with me.

MY REVIEW: This is definitely not it. I ordered smothered chicken white meat which was very dry and had no flavor. The green beans were out of a can with some bacon thrown in to give them flavor but that only made them greasy. The corn bread was cold and hard. All in all not a very pleasant experience. Another weak point was the staff. I had to repeat my order about five times before they finally got it on my tray. Anyway, I hope they get it sorted out and maybe I'll give them another shot in a few months.

MY REVIEW: Strong points:None - most of the fame for this place comes from the history when they were small and really put care into the dishes they served.
Weak Points - food and service
Entrees- depends on what you are used too when it comes to real traditional southern soulfood. This is not it. They have lost something over the years, they got big the food has suffered. Back in the 70's when they were in the small shack of a place, the food was excelllent, truly a treat to not miss, now they are just like any other want to be...get back to basics, put some love in the food.

MY REVIEW: Damn good food. I had the meatloaf, rice, cabbage, and yams. My friend, who is from Denmark and is trying to experience all of the different food Houston has to offer, had the smothered chicken, rice/gravy, cabbage, and green beans. Everything was good. Good cornbread and sweet tea. Reminded me of the food I grew up on.
We had good service. Never went without tea, and they came by to make sure everything was good.
Good food, friendly service, football on the tv, and big portions......all for less than $10/person.
I'm going back. I'll probably be a regular.

MY REVIEW: Large portions of tasty comfort food, at appropriate temperatures. Delicious cabbage with bits of ham or bacon, tender smothered chicken. Wonderful gravies, both light and dark. Ribs and oxtails are bony (of course) so those portions may look like more food than they contain. The atmosphere is loud (two TVs and the buffet line of people), and bright. I'd recommend getting the food to go - the food doesn't have delicate textures that suffer from reheating.

MY REVIEW: I finally managed to get myself into this well-known establishment for the first time!
I had pepper-steak, black-eyed peas, and greens, with iced tea ( "sweet" of course, I AM southern after all) along with the very best tasting piece of German chocolate cake I have had from a restaurant in memory. All for $11.90.
I wish I had remembered to ask whether they sell whole cakes....hmmm guess I will have to go back and ask
Luckily I did arrive before the after church rush, it did look to be formidable as it gathered and I left.
Everything was delicious, I can't wait to go back and try more of thier offerings.
Yumm!

MY REVIEW: I LOVE THIS IS IT SOULFOOD RESTAURANT. EVERYTIME I VISIT I AM WARMLY GREETED WITH FRIENDLY RESTAURANT STAFF MEMBERS. THE FOOD IS FILLING AND DELICIOUS. I HAVE NO COMPLAINTS. MY REVIEW: The food is well seasoned and it is really good. The service is excellent and the employees are great and friendly and nice. They are little pricey compared to the prices they used to have. Example a small bowl of chitterlings was $10.00. The dining room has two tv's with two different programs and a radio which makes the atmosphere a little too busy at times. other than that it is a pretty good restaurant to visit during lunch, on Sunday evenings with your family.

MY REVIEW: I can say when they first opened I was their 1st customer even though they don't remember me because I was very young then, but I love that restaurant everytime I go to 4th ward I have to eat there so, KEEP IT UP!

MY REVIEW: This is one of the few soul-food locations adjacent to midtown-dowtown. It offers cafeteria service in a spartan atmosphere. One can load up on typical soul-food items like mac & cheese, fried chicken, broccoli and rice casserole, links, rib tips, etc. There are dessert options like peach cobbler as well. A veg and meat plate with cornbread was $ 11.36.
Pros: Homestyle cooking close to downtown and midtown.
Cons: A bit pricey considering it is not really gourmet.
Verdict: Modest for its genre, although a brighter dining room and better selection can be had at H*rry's down the road for about the same price.

MY REVIEW: Seriously seasoned, home cooked taste and a family atmosphere. The portions are very generous, generous enough to have leftovers or even split a meal if you are both moderate eaters. Great oxtails, cornbread muffins, mashed potatoes and gravy. Okay, who am I kidding, from the pork, to the poultry, to the beef, it's all good, so "This Is It"!

MY REVIEW: Outstanding, cheap, comfort food like my mom used to make. The best smothered pork chops on earth. One downside, the neighborhood has lost any and all character it once had. Yeah, it’s not as bad a part of town as it use to be crime-wise, but now it is much worse, yuppie-wise. Yuppie scum has taken over the neighborhood.

MY REVIEW: The food was excellent and so was the service, I felt like I was at grandma's in the country. I feel they should expand their business and take this good eatin to other states.
