MY REVIEW: I have been eating at Golden Hunan for over 15 years. I have always bragged about them having the best General Tso Chicken and Spicy fried rice. I seldom eat there, I usally always order to go. Back in September 2010, I ordered my usal General Tso Chicken and Spicy fried rice and when I got home to eat I was disappointed to see that my rice only had 1 shrimp in it. I called to let them know and though the owner stated they always put 4-5(large) shrimp and us going back in forth he agree to give me a free rice on my next visit. He even verified my number and everything. To make a long story short, when I went back he refused to give me a free rice, stating the same old thing about how they alway put 4-5 shrimp. He acted like he had not talked to me before and told me he would give me a free rice. I really felt disrespected, because I felt like he was treating me like I was lying. I will not patronize them anymore, not because he didn't give me the rice free, but because of the way he treated me. I have "never" been treated that way before, not even by a fast food restaurant. They have lost a faithful customer.

MY REVIEW: I ordered vegetable lo mein and sesame phoenix for takeout. This food was bland. Not bad, but watery and basically flavorless. The sesame phoenix said "spicy" on the menu. Man I hate it when the menu says something is supposed to be spicy and then there is absolutely no heat in it! I threw out the leftovers - something I have never done before. The best thing was the vegetable egg rolls, which came free. They were good but not great - a little grease-sodden but very crisp and the veggies inside were still pleasantly crunchy. Nothing to go back for, sorry.

MY REVIEW: The first visit - lunch -- General Tso Chicken , steamed rice, spring roll, fortune cookie

General Tso chicken- not good, had a taste of staleness, freezer burnt, with a chalky crust on the chicken pieces. General tso is on the menu as Spicy and was not spicy at all, chilies in the food does not constitute spicy. The spring roll had the same taste as the stale chicken. Rice was not edible with the same taste. I took the meal back and was charged for eating the spring roll.

I went with my sister later that month, stayed safe and ordered chicken and broccoli with brown sauce. It was ok. Way better than the General tso chicken.

MY REVIEW: I have been ordering from them for the last 6 years, but the location on Memorial and had the dinner delivered. I have always been happy and the people that answer the phone have been very nice.

Last Friday I decided to order from the new location on Durham and it was a total disaster. A young lady answer the phone and immediately put me on hold. When she came back and asked what I want I had to repeat the first item several times before she finally understood and then put me on hold again to answer another call. When she came back I had to repeat the second item several times and I don't think she ever got it right. During the second item she put me on hold a couple more times. Finally after trying to repeat the 2 items I had order and getting both of the wrong I was trying to explain what I wanted when she tried to put me on hold again. I just hung up.

I am sad to say I will not call them again. I found another Chinese place that delivers and the food was as good and the pricing about the same. I hate to see this happening to what was one of my favorite places to order to go on a Friday night.

MY REVIEW: we're trying out a different chinese restaurant every week that delivers in the inner loop/montrose/river oaks area to find a good one that will give me my "chinese fix". I don't know if I'm ordering the wrong thing - but Golden Hunan has been among the worst of our attempts. While delivery was prompt and hot - they got the order wrong, and would have charged twice the amount than ordered if I hadn't insisted the delivery person call back to verify the correct order. Even that once it was squared away wouldn have been okay, but the food was just average to poor quality all around.

Mini spring rolls were greasy and stuffed with only cabbage. The family dinner we ordered came with fried rice - and it was just that - rice that had been fried, no veggies of any kind in it. The hot soup was bland without any interesting mushrooms in it (and the first where we had leftovers that got tossed away). There was also plenty of bland kung pao chicken and ho-hum mixed vegetables drowned in sauce that also made it's way to the garbage.

From their take-out menu, the lunch deals look like the way to go on this one, since the price and the quality are about the same as any fast food restaurant. This next weeks effort is 3*-6-9 Bistro - we'll see how that goes! So far, A*untie Chang's (with some reservations) is winning for delivery and nothing has beaten P*F Chang's for take-out!

MY REVIEW: Strong points: Friendly reception. The man who took my order on the phone waited on me at the front desk and was very prompt and courteous. Fresh, hot food. Tasty egg rolls.

Weak points: The "cleanliness" the restaurant seems to be mentioned for? Not there. The second I walked in I notice the smell of sewer. This only grew stronger as I walked toward the bathroom to do the "bathroom check" for a clean restaurant. The odor permeated the restaurant, and I hate to say, the food seemed to carry the smell. The "Hunan Beef" was supposed to be a version of orange beef and instead tasted like beef smothered in sweetened soy sauce. Back to the cleanliness, the "Blue Ribbon Award" and City of Houston award were both awarded in 1993. What has transpired in the following 15 years? Who knows. But I can't recommend this restaurant and will not be back.

MY REVIEW: Strong points: fresh veggies and seafood, friendly greeters, hilarious Over the Hill Band (and they're not kidding; the singer was 97 years old) that plays Dixieland stuff every Wednesday night

Weak points: nothing really imaginative on the menu; just standard Chinese fare. Decor is hideous; the ghastly floral wallpaper looks like a Laura Ashley catalog from the late 1980's exploded. It was like Vegas--hard to know where to rest your eyes. Service was pretty bad. We were ignored virtually the entire meal except for when we ordered and received our food. Not terrible, but we probably won't return unless it's to see the band.

MY REVIEW: Strong points: lots of food, and a salad along with lunch specials which are very reasonable. (Mostly around $5.99) Bad points: hot and sour soup lacked depth and taste, Hunan Shrimp were plentiful but way too sweet. As for the pork dumplings, nice dough, but horrible bitter taste inside.

MY REVIEW: Golden Hunan has some of the best dumplings I have had in Houston. The dough is very thin, the sauce is excellent, and they are served with delicious slivers of fresh ginger. Absolutely wonderful. And they deliver in about twenty minutes. I always order extra because the leftovers are great after reheating in the microwave.

MY REVIEW: The food has always been very fresh. We typically order delivery, which takes around 20 minutes on average. What we really enjoy about Hunan is the food is always fresh and CLEAN. The owners take pride in their business by using quality and fresh food and offering adequete customer service. An additional bonus is the wonderful fish tank with very large fish that my daughter is a particular fan of. When we pick-up our dinner the owners always speak to my child and offer her a little mint while we wait on our food. Do not be too fooled by the lack of people inside the restaurant, most of their food is delivery during the dinner time hours.

MY REVIEW: I love this place. My boyfriend and I eat here at least once a week. There food is fresh and the restaurant is clean. The spicy fried rice is the best in town. Not so into the can cokes given instead of fountain drinks but easily overlooked. Prices are extremely reasonable. The owner's are always arounds and I don't mean in the back counting the revenue. They are out front taking orders on the phone, greeting customers, bringing food to the table. Everyone is thoughtful and nice. It's one of the last true non-sushi Asian restaurants in Houston. Decor is old school but it's what makes them unique. Lunch time has a strong crowd but in the evenings you can get lucky and have a nice quite dinner with a small crowd.

MY REVIEW: This was probably the best restaurant I have ever been to the chicken was all breast meat because the taste you get out of it was so speacial. The service was awesome and kept my tea filled the whole time. The thing I like about it the best is that the price it's so cheap and the quality is awesome. I would definetly go there again.

MY REVIEW: Ok...we live down the street and have given this place a try or three. The wanton soup tasted like saltwater, the gen. tao's chicken was more like Gomer Pyle Private 1st Class Chicken...and oh yeah, even the fortune cookies were old and stale.
