Morningside Thai

MY REVIEW: Have you tried the Drew's Chicken at Morningside Thai is all I have been hearing from my foodie friends. This little Rice Village/Medical Center spot is one of the best Thai restaurants in the Houston area and should not be overlooked. I have to have the Drew's Chicken as often as I can. I am also hooked on the baby egg rolls with their delicious peanut sauce. I am a fan of the spicy Pad Kee Mow, Panang and the Red Curry. Don't forget the homemade mango sorbet and sticky rice or Coconut ice cream and fried bananas. GOOD EATS

MY REVIEW: Had lunch there today (supposed to meet someone who works nearby). Hadn't been there in a long time, but things seem to be the same. Ordered the sweet & sour chicken -- TOOOOO Sweet, no sour except for the tomato & pineapple chunks. Soup was good (on the salty side: too much fish sauce; spinach or some other veg. would have been nice instead of cheapo iceberg lettuce) and "spring roll" wannabe would be better if the inside ingredients were different -- didn't care too much for the bland veggies inside.

MY REVIEW: Just had lunch here. Not many people about 4 tables but 4 or more people at each table. Service was good and so was the food. I was craving spring rolls and Pad Thai. They have a lunch menu with large portions, we took food home. Good food for a good price!

MY REVIEW: My sister took me to there one Saturday and I haven't looked at any Thai restaurant since. Absolutely, my favourite place to go. People are friendly and the food is amazing. I have often wish to apprentice myself to the cook. Anyone who goes with me has to hear at least 10 times how much I love the place. I do not have a favourite dish but my sister swears it is the Thai Ginger. Must try the fried bananas with coconut ice cream if there is any left after I order. A definite must visit.

MY REVIEW: perhaps the previous reviewer does not understand what good thai actually tastes like. because morningside thai has always been of surpassing high quality and I have been going here for many years. it is by far the best of the rice village bunch and a favorite among the nearby asian residents (and we are quite picky).
the quality of the ingredients is very consistent- their meats/vegetables are fresh and cooked well- the salads are delicious and have a great spicy lime dressing. Their curries are not bland and watery as in other places - they are richer and spicier (perhaps the previous reviewer doesn't understand this). Their noodles dishes use good fresh ingredients (I rate my Thai restaurants by Laad Na, Pad Kee Mao by the quality of the noodles).
It is a pleasant family owned restaurant with a calming ambiance. It is often overlooked and underappreciated- but i hope everyone gives morningside a chance.

MY REVIEW: I will never listen to any of this recommendations ever again. This is BAR NONE THE WORST Thai restaurant I have ever had the displeasure of eating in.
To start, we ordered Tom Yom Goong because you can pretty much rate a Thai restaurant based on how good that is. It was not good. Not terrible, but I've had instant noodles better tasting. It was powdery and obviously not homemade. If it is, some culinary classes are definitely in order.
Next we ordered two dishes, the green curry chicken and cashew pork. I knew when I first saw them that this was going to get much worse before it got any better. I was right. Cashew pork tasted like anchovy paste pork. Utterly disgusting. Green curry tasted, as the soup, like insta-curry with the mix of ugly green color. This, combined with the cheap quality pork, ridiculously tiny portion (since everything made me want to hurl, this is a good thing), and overall BAD TASTE of everything means I will never return.
Those of you "in awe" of how "autheintic the flavor" is...no, not even close. Those of you ranting and raving about this place must visit the other outstanding Thai restaurants in Houston. Such as T*hai Restaurant at 5757 Westheimer. T*hai C*uisine on 7952 Westheimer. Or T*hai V*illage, somewhere in Austin if you're ever there, look them up and make sure you order the Tom Yom firepot. There, now you have 3 excellent places to eat from.

MY REVIEW: I had lunch here for the first time with a friend. I was craving Pad Thai and Morningside is only 5 minutes away from my work.
They had a lunch menu available. I ordered the Shrimp Pad Thai. Our lunch also came with a complimentary rice soup and spring roll. The prices were good too. The pad thai was delicious.
I can’t wait to come back!

MY REVIEW: This was the first time I'd been here. I went with two friends that had been before. The food was great. All 3 dishes were amazing, and all very different flavors. The spiciness was just right. Enough to kick you, but did not overwhelm the other flavors at all. Great flavors. The service was great. Definitely recommend this restaurant. Will definitely be going back.

MY REVIEW: We had a dessert combination of sticky rice, mango, and coconut ice cream. I never have liked sticky rice, but not any more! The warm rice with the cool ice cream goes so well with the tangy mango. You have to try it sometime. Service fine and the portions size was what you get elsewhere in Thai restaurants. We'll be going back!

MY REVIEW: Service slow, small portion sizes, esp. the 'house special' clay pot considering its high price. We ordered from the dinner menu on a Sat. afternoon because we didn't want the lunch specials (not everyone wanted soup). We were a party of 6 adults 2 toddlers and a baby. After taking a few minutes to get us seated, it took a few more minutes before water was served, then we had to wait for menus. Why couldn't have they given the menus out in the beginning? We ordered 2 appetizers and 3 entrees to eat family-style. Barely enough food. At other similar places we would've had some food left to take home, but not here.
This was the 1st and last time we're going here with a big group.

MY REVIEW: I have been to many different thai restuarants particularly in the Rice Village and this is my favorite. The standard thai dishes are all delicious but I have to say the best part is the byob. They don't even charge a corking fee! The sticky rice is one of the better ones i've tried. next time you want excellent thai and want to save money on alcohol, you have to go this place.

MY REVIEW: This place really is one of the best Thai joints in Houston. My father lived in Thailand for 11 years and upon his return I arrived. I was raised on Cambodian, Laotian and above all Thai food. This place is the real deal, they cut no corners. I have enjoyed everything on the menu, but I do have favorites. . .ill let you discover your own. The owners are so nice and welcoming its worth shaking their hands and thanking them for a job well done.

MY REVIEW: What is it with restaurants not giving you your soup with your lunch special if you order it to-go?!? All chinese and vietnamese restaurants can pack soups to go, why can this one or its neighbor, S*ushi R*ck (at least last time I went I didn't get soup to go!)

MY REVIEW: Located on the outer fringes of Houston's University area near Holcome and down a little side street called Morningside Dr. is one of the best kept secrets in Houston Dining. In a quaint little Cottage atmosphere, expect to be treated like royalty while dining on the best Thai food in town. All the components of fine dining are there, along with a menu that lives up to expectations. You will love the table settings and the service, but the food,oh my! It is all good! I usually get the Green and or Red beef Curry along with a side dish of Pad Thai. Everything I or others have tried has been good so don't be afraid to adventure into the menu. Masa Moon Curry, Panang, Pad Pet, Royal Beef, or Thai Ginger. It's worth a trip to my favorite restaurant in Houston, Morningside Thai Restaurant. A little off the beaten path but worth it!

MY REVIEW: We live in Austin and visited Morningside Thai on our last trip to Houston...were we ever blown away by the food!! My husband ordered the Goong Yai Kra Prao and said it was wonderful. I don't usually order shrimp in restaurants, but tried it at his urging...it was the BEST shrimp I've EVER eaten. And those basil leaves...how do they DO that? My 11 year old scarfed the Satay down before any of us had a chance to take a bite. We tried lots of different dishes and they all tasted great. All in all, it was the best Thai we've ever eaten. Owners and waitstaff were wonderful; very attentive. Nice trinkets to buy in the front cases as well. I think it's time for another trip to Houston.
