The rest rooms need to be maintained better

MY REVIEW: I am a huge fan of Indian food and of all the good places in Sugar Land I have found, this is my favorite. I have only been there for the lunch buffet, as I work nearby but live in Katy.
Good: Sag Paneer is excellent and does not skimp on the cheese. The soup with the squash and zucchini (I forget the name) is always there and it is absolutely delicious. If they have any potato dishes (Aloo?) out, go straight for that, as they do a very good job on that. I also look forward to the yogurt and rice desert with the mustard seeds and cilantro. The dosai are really great too.
Bad: I do wish they would vary the lunch buffet items a little more, but then I go so often I guess it is really my fault if it seems like I see the same thing a lot. The naan bread is sometimes just a little dry or overdone or something.
In this recent economic downturn I have cut out my work lunches almost entirely, but this is the one place that I will still go to when I feel like treating myself.

MY REVIEW: **** Arrived at 8:00 pm for a late dinner and the restaurant was not crowded at all. The food was the best Indian food we have ever had in Texas. Everything from the Tandoori Oven was excellent (Chicken/Lamb). The Sag Paneer was prepared to perfection. The service was timely, but not overbearing. Our table was frequently checked on by the manager for any needs. It was suggested that on our next visit that we try the Masala dosai. (One of their most popular, we were told that people drive a long way for this dish!)

MY REVIEW: I've been to madras pavillion ( on kirby dr ) before for dinner but today is my first time for lunch buffet. First, I've to start from the dishes that they served. For anyone who is born and brought up in south india (esp Andhra pradesh, Tamil nadu) what else you want if you have hot pongal, uddi vada, idly and nice traditional madras sambar with thin chutney. I've been to almost all the southindian vegetarian places in this area but Madras Pavillion rocks. Personally I'd give more points on being authentic south indian for madras pavillion than anything else. Unlike the other south indian restaurants in houston who either try to more authentic by adding too much spices etc etc or too westernized (less spicy) , Madras pavillion some how survived the fusion infection and serves the tastes we all grew up on back home.

MY REVIEW: Out of the 8 Indian restaurants that I've tried in Houston, this is the one that I keep going back to. Every time, the food is delicious and the service is very friendly.
My favorites are the samosas (not TOO spicy), palak paneer, and the paneer tikka. Their parathas are also very good.
The prices are better than most other Indian restaurants in the area (when taking portion and flavor into consideration).
The only weak point that I can think of is the limited parking (at lunch and dinner hours) which is due to the popularity of the two restaurants next door (Red O*nion and M*iyako). But that is no fault of the restaurant.
I noticed a complaint of the restaurant being hot by one reviewer. At a recent trip, a friend I was with complained of the same thing but she was eating a spicy dish (and I didn't feel any heat at all). Even if the restaurant was hot, I'm sure that it was a one time thing as this is something that I have never experienced during the dozens of times I've eaten there.
The buffet is also worth mentioning. I've only had it a couple of times, but the variety was great and the quality of the food was very good.
Overall Rating 5/5

MY REVIEW: Strong point: the food is great. Everything from the samosas and plantains fried in a chick-pea flour coating to all the curries and various entrees our table of 6 shared. The very down side: the ambient temperature and the lack of service. I suppose they were going for a true Indian experience because it was hotter than Hades in there. All of us were sweating and repeatedly asked them to make it cooler. This is Houston and it is July. This is not a dive restaurant in Mumbai. Also once the food arrived, the waiter(s) were not to be seen. Iced-tea was running low and we needed it because of the heat. Heat as in room temp not the spicy food. It was capped off by us watching the female bus-person (and drink re-filler) giving the waiter/cashier a neck/shoulder massage as they ignored us. Again food great. Service marginal. Room temp, miserable. Might go back, in December.

MY REVIEW: Strong Points: Great food, dessert, and flavors. Always different varitey of food. Chicken cooked to perfection. Amazing Naan.
Weak Points: Service.
I'd recommend you go during dinner. The food is somehow always better then.
To the comments about when the woman is running the place- I do find that incredibly sexist. Both comments were posted by the same person. I did not find anything wrong with the food or service when she was in charge. I found her to be very effective. Please keep your sexist comments to your self, as some people actually come here to look at what the resturant has to offer-not make judgemental comments apon someone.
All in all pretty good food. Service, however, could have been better.

MY REVIEW: Pros: Good vegetarian variety
Cons: Not enough parking, Had to wait to be seated for buffet. Silverware and glasses and pitcher of water were all dirty. Waitress spilled Mango Lassi all over me. Ras Malai was flavorless and had a weird color and was very watery. Food had more spice than desired.

MY REVIEW: Food is terrific and healthy. The buffet keeps changing enough to make it interesting while keeping the standbys. Yesterday there were several new (to us!) currys (eggplant and mushroom) and 3 or 4 desserts. Yum! The people who work there are very pleasent. Our very favorite Indian as we favor S. Indian. We cook it at home including the idli, coconut chutney and sambar. Much easier and better to go to MP, but we live in W. Houston!

MY REVIEW: Madras Pavilion, Sugarland location is amazing. The food quality, taste is awesome and while writing this review I am craving to have that food. I am from North India and normally I prefer north Indian food but Madras Pavilion changed my whole opinion about South Indian food. I am not sure about Kirby dr. one, I have been to madras pavilion, AUstin, TX.. but that was just ok. I highly recommend Madras Pavilion, SUGARLAND specially the lunch buffet. It has variety, taste and amazing frangrance of spices :)

MY REVIEW: I went to the Madras Pavilion on Kirby on the Christmas Eve with some friends for dinner. Even though I have been to this place like at least half a dozen times, this was the worst experience ever! There were 4 wait staff and the manager. The manager was greeting other customers when he was taking our order. He got our order mixed up 3 times. We had to wait for about 30 to 45 minutes to get our orders in front of us. When it came, the main order came before the appetizer. After taking our initial order, there was noone to wait at our table. I asked for a coffee and one of the waitresses stared at me and walked away. We laughed about that. I don't have complaints about the food (in fact, I liked it), but the service was an all time low. The waitresses were in a rush to clear the tables and the place seemed understaffed that day. Either the management might be thinking of making maximum profit on the Christmas Eve by keeping very few wait staff or they miscalculated the crowd that will show up that day. The bottomline is that, the experience was very disappointing and a bad one for all of us. I will recommed this place if you don't care about the service or ambience. If you are not looking for a take out dinner, I will not recommend this place.

MY REVIEW: My family and I eat here every weekend and think the food is great. Unlike some of the other reviewers we have never had a problem with service, or receiving drinks or dosas. This place is wonderful for vegetarians and vegans, and also pretty good for celiacs. In addition it is also maybe the most child-friendly and baby friendly place we have been to, usually letting the kids eat free. While it is true that the buffet can be better at some times than others, and that the food off of the dinner menu can be better than the buffet, there is no denying the great value for money.

MY REVIEW: The food at the Kirby restaurant is great, in fact the best Indian buffet in town. Occasionally, there have been delays if you order something other than the buffet on weekends, but over all the service is good. The buffet is very reasonably priced. Referring to an earlier comment about the staff and the lady running the place in the month of June and July, they were very prompt and courteous and I do feel the comment was sexist. If you are willing to compromise on the quality of food and pay more so that you do not have the occasional delays, Madras pavilion is definitely not the place for you. If not, highly recommend it.

MY REVIEW: I fell in love with Madras very quickly. As a vegetarian it is delightful to have so many delicious options. The service as of late, however, has been disappointing. The management have made several mistakes the last few times I have been (last time, they gave my to-go order to someone else. this meant that i had to wait around while they prepared my food again.) They have never offered to compensate for their mistakes. The mistakes, might I add, seem to be a regularity when the young woman is in charge.
what a shame.

MY REVIEW: The lunch buffet is usually excellent but the service is spotty to the point of being irritating. For example, don't try ordering anything but water to drink -- it will probably never come. Today the bread never appeared on the buffet, and neither did my dhosa. Pointing any of these problems out to the linguistically challenged table staff will do no good. It seems sexist to say so, but if the attractive young woman is "running" the place it's best to stay away -- she just doesn't cut the mustard, I'm afraid.
It's a great shame, because the food is cheap and generally outstanding. I've been several times, but my patience has pretty much run out ....

MY REVIEW: I love a great medium rare steak at heart but Madras has to be one of my new favorite places to eat. My gf (vegetarian) hyped up the experience for me so I tried out the lunch buffet. We had never had Indian food before so it was a new experience for both of us. I had a great time trying out all the different dishes and sauces. The best was the fried colliflower and red sauce wrapped in the tortilla-like flat bread. It was the fullest I ever got not eating meat. And the price was unbelievably low. Everyone should give this place a try. Excellent service and staff and a great diverse environment.

MY REVIEW: The buffet is the best feature here, but we don't always time it right, so we've also ordered from the menu. They have been nice and made buffet items for us to take-out (most of these items aren't on the menu). We're especially fond of the Cauliflower with red sauce, although be careful because it can be too spicy. A great vegetarian destination!

MY REVIEW: I always go to the Kirby location since it's all-vegetarian. I've been several times for dinner, and once for the lunch buffet. I highly recommend it for dinner, but I was very disappointed with the buffet. I hear from my friends the buffet is hit-or-miss. The day I was there, it had a poor (and small) assortment of dishes that were lukewarm at best. Excellent samosas and dosas at any time, and I like their vegetable korma and saag paneer. I have not had any bad food at dinner, although I have tried a few dishes I didn't personally care for.
You definitely don't go to Madras for the ambience, or to see-and-be-seen. It's very "cheap Chinese restaurant" sort of decor, and there no glitterati to rub shoulders with. You go for good vegetarian Indian food at a reasonable price. It's rarely crowded, so you can generally walk in and get a table right away. Service is generally prompt, but you get very little attention once you've been served. Fortunately, they usually leave a pitcher of water on the table so you're never short of something. They take a long time to bring the check, but that's typical of so many non-American cultures, it's nothing to get upset about.
For first-time visitors or those new to Indian food, I recommend the Family Dinner, which may seem a little pricey but will feed you for days. It includes soup, appetizer, dosa, a rice dish, a dal dish, a curry dish, a vegetable dish, bread, and dessert. They will gladly substitute anything on the Family Dinner if you don't like the sound of the suggested dishes. A cheaper option is the South Indian Talli, a sampler tray of 8-10 different dishes, also served with dessert. It's a bargain, but I don't like the included dishes as well, so I prefer the Family Dinner.

MY REVIEW: I have been to Madras Pavilion (both the Kirby and Sugar Land locations) so often, with my husband, with friends and visitors, that they SHOULD know my name, but only one of the owners (the taller, very nice and friendly guy) actually recognizes and greets me and my husband.
Well, today I went for lunch buffet at the Sugar Land location with a friend to show her how wonderful Indian cuisine tastes. Unfortunately, the second owner (the shorter guy) was in charge and the service was not very good. Nobody asked if we wanted dosas, and when I finally managed to order one dosa and one uttapam, they didn't arrive at the same time although the place was far from being packed. Our glasses had been empty for a long time before we got a refill of water. Several food items didn't look as fresh as on weekends. When we were ready for dessert, there were some tiny tiny bits of fruit salad left, and absolutely nothing else.
When we were waiting at the register to pay, two Indian ladies (also paying the bill) complained to the owner that it seemed nobody had bothered to refill the dessert tray, and the owner said "So what - did you see fruit ? If you didn't see fruit, it means there's nothing left. What's there to complain about?".
I'm wondering if I'll still go to Madras Pavilion although I like the food. The service has always been erratic at both locations, but was acceptable overall. What I've witnessed today was pure arrogance and lack of politeness.
But, as I've said above, the other owner is one of the friendliest persons I've ever met, and I would really hate if his business partner managed to ruin the good name of their restaurant.

MY REVIEW: My experience with Madras Pavilion in Sugarland was terrible. We had booked a banquet hall for an engagement party and arrived at the hall to find the tables covered with plates of food from the party the night before. The tables on the deck were also covered with food, drinks, and food was all over the floor. The waitstaff did not take any initiative to properly clean the room or deck until five to ten minutes before our event was to start. Even then, the table cloths were all stained and we had to wait on our plates and silverware because they were still cleaning them from the night before. The manager gave no explanation or apology except the party before lasted until very late. The food was forgettable and none of our requests specific items were granted. I would not even recommend this place to my worst enemy.

MY REVIEW: Madras Pavilion is the first Indian place I've been to where the regular dinner is actually far better than the buffet! I've been to the buffet 3 times now (once on a weekend, twice on weekdays) and have had dinner there at least 4 times. The buffet is generally hit or miss with me and my girlfriend - the only time we've liked everything was when we went on a weekend. Dinner is an entirely different story, however. I think that the best value would be to get one of their dinners - we always get the "dinner for two." You get a soup, an appetizer, a dosa for each person, three main entrees, one rice, and dessert for about $32. It's a fantastic deal, espeically since you get to try so much more and there is so much food that you will almost certainly have leftovers for the next day! Service is great, always friendly and they let you substitute freely, so don't worry if there is something on the pre-set dinner menu that you don't like. Everything there is fantastic, but I particularly like their dosas and their carrot halwa.
The decor of the restaurant could certainly be improved upon - but I don't consider them to be a "fine restaurant" - and I don't think that that is what they are trying to be. Bottom line: if you want tasty, affordable, vegetarian Indian food *inside* the loop, this is the place to go.

MY REVIEW: I went to Madras Pavilion and I loved it. We( My familly and I) had a party at their banquet hall. They took care of us and served appetizers on time. We had a "House Party" from A*shoka and the food was no where as competible as Madras Paviion's . A week point would probably be decor but a strong point is definately the food. I eally enjoyed. I am a vegitarian, but my kids eat meat. I liked the vegitarian part, and my kids enjoyed the meat too. In specialities,I would recomend the Malai Kofta and the Paneer Butter Masala. In desserts i would recomend Mango Moose. I will recomend people to this place. I heard they'll be having something special on Saturdays and Sundays. I can't wait!
Thankyou,
