MY REVIEW: Nikos has grown a lot in the last few years. I have been eating there for more than 20 years. My recommendation is to stick to what they do best: the actual Greek food. The lamb shanks are wonderful.

All the Greek entrees are very good Spanikopita, the gyros, souvlaki, etc. After the remodeling it seems that the lines got longer, especially on weekends. The plastic ware and styrofoam are just part of the deal here, if you want table linens and hushed tones go somewhere else. I have never had a bad meal.

MY REVIEW: Had the roast chicken, as did two others in our party. It was like leather with no taste (the general consensus)

Have always thought this place was overated . I don`t understand the buzz, its Greek to me.

MY REVIEW: I like this place a lot. A large menu and everything I've tried has been good. I last had the grilled pork dinner, which included a side order or rice or potatoes and a small Greek salad. There was enough food for two meals and it was delicious. Yummy. I can't wait to get back there.

MY REVIEW: Have always heard good things about this place, but seldom get over to Montrose area from Clear Lake area. Well, all that is about to change. This is "restaurant row" if ever there was one. And Niko Niko's lived up to its reputation.

I wasn't expecting to have to order at the counter and eat with plastic on styrofoam, but for food this good, what the heck! Gyros are wonderful, as are grilled chicken and lamb. Huge portions of sides. Not sure what the name is, but potato baked in lemon and herbs is a real out-of-the-ordinary treat. So too with the rice, which is yellow----maybe spiced with saffron?? Wife said salmon with pesto was bland. Well, who goes to a Greek joint and orders salmon?? Next time you can bet she will order Greek. Huge selection of pastries. Really enjoyed the Greek wedding cookies.

The area is alot of fun and the dining options are numerous and varied. We plan on visiting often and sampling other restaurants, but it's going to be hard to keep from going back to Niko Niko's every time.

MY REVIEW: Consistently the best Greek food in town. Love the hummus, spanikopita, souvlaki and chicken spinach pita. The lines are long and parking can be tight, but the food is worth it!

MY REVIEW: I had the fortunate pleasure of going to to Niko Niko's for the first time about year and a half ago. I am from Houston but live in Dallas now but come here frequently. My wife and I agree that this is the real thing. In fact, we were in Athens for a week not long after our first visit to the restaurant. There is nothing in the Plaka better than Niko Niko's and in fact many of the locals in Athens, (they all seem to know someone in Houston), knew about this place.

MY REVIEW: If your looking for good gyros, this is a very good spot. I tried this place from a review book. Very nice place. Clean and crowded. Lots of food, bring an appetite. It was around $10. per gyro plate. Inside/outside dinning. Counter style order/pay and pick up. They had those flashing vibrating deals to let you know when your order is up. Parking may be an issue, worth the space hunt. Nice attentive staff. I think the only thing I didn't like was the foam plates and plastic cutlery. If your going to give someone this much food, you need a bigger plate. Overall good experience. Will definitely go back.

PS: Anytime I go in a new eatery I tell them that I am trying this place because the review book says they are good. I think it tends to give better service, perhaps better food too. Let them work a bit for return service. Sometimes it also gets you some free samples before you order.

MY REVIEW: Love the chicken soup, salad and lamb shanks. Maybe someday they will not be out of the red snapper!!!! They seem to be adding parking. Long lines, short waits for soup and salad. But they have gotten fairly pricey considering A*ladan Med. Rest. across the street at corner of Montrose & Westheimer -

MY REVIEW: I would agree with several others. The food had gotten $$$. $25 for lunch for 2 is too much. If they have raised their prices due to delvery costs. Pass the cost to delivery customers, not the ones that eat in. And Anikan. It is a fast food place. Place order at counter, pick up order at counter. Get your own drinks. Sounds like many other places that are fast food. You just have too wait longer to get your food here.

MY REVIEW: Had to park about 3 blocks away, granted it was lunchtime on a Saturday. Long line but moved quickly and staff seemed very friendly. Plenty of food, some of the items on the menu seemed a little pricey. We ordered Gyros, meat was dry and white sauce inside bland, tomato was sliced way too thick, fries were excellent. Nice atmosphere.

MY REVIEW: Regarding prices: Nikos says they're passing the delivery charges thru their menu price increases, due to high gas prices. I was just there Saturday 01/26/08. Regarding Mike's 1/22/08 review of "...portions getting smaller.." You need to be more specific as to what you ordered!!! I have to disagree. Our party of 3 were so full, we left food. I don't leave food. I eat it! The portions are usually generous. If you believe the portions are getting smaller, show them your plate. They'll make it right.....Mike 1/22/08, Nikos is NOT a fast food place! It's NOT waiting for you when you order!!! Average wait time for your order is 15 to 20 minutes.

MY REVIEW: I agree with the last review. The food is good, but the portions are getting smaller as time goes by. My family of 4 had a bill for over $50. Too much $$$ for a fast food place....

MY REVIEW: I ate there recently and the food was good but the prices have become astronomical. Over $12 for a Gyros plate?

MY REVIEW: We have been eating @ Niko's for years! Best greek food in town. The veggie lasagna and spinach chicken pita are my favs. Yeah, sometimes there is a bit of a line but the staff is fast and polite so no worries. I think it is really cool that they have expanded and upgraded the atmosphere but the food and prices stayed the same.

MY REVIEW: A co-worker brought me here for the first time, and I was definitely impressed! The staff was very friendly and the food came out pretty quickly. I ordered the falafel plate, and I had plenty to take home for later! Everything was enjoyable, and I will definitely visit again!

MY REVIEW: My friends and I went here once together and I'm glad she mentioned it since I was always curious to go. The parking is a bit of a downer since it's so cramped and the place does get busy. We did have to deal with a line once inside but that time spent waiting gave us all we needed to decide on our orders since the three of us have never been here. I ordered the salmon with rice and was blown away! The portion was really nice at the price it was and I happily finished all my food. The humus my friend ordered was a pleasant surprise and turned out really good, probably some of the best I've ever had in Houston.

MY REVIEW: My last visit to Niko’s was a big disappointment. The chicken plate I ordered was extremely dry and the pita bread was cold. The young man taking my order was not welcoming and was put off when I asked him a question at the counter about a dish I was curious about. When we were waiting in line to order we were knocked around by staff bussing plates to the trash can on the other side of the line. For those who still say the food is great realize this: The food is average at best. Niko’s is trendy and that’s the only thing it has going for it.

MY REVIEW: The food is good but there is no parking and you have to wait in a long line to order. When the restaurant is busy (always) it seems to take forever to get your food. As someone else mentioned, everything is served on plastic plates and you are given plastic knives and forks with which to eat. Like I said above, the food is really good but I'm not sure it's worth the ordeal of parking and standing in that long line to order.

MY REVIEW: I've heard a lot of reviews about this place so I was excited to give it a try. I had the Gyros Plate and my date had the Greek Chicken Parmesan Plate.

Strong: good rice and pita bread, cucumber sauce

Weak: lamb was slightly overcooked, chicken was soggy, too much rice & not enough pita bread, wait time quite long, tight parking spots (we even saw a van hit another car as she backed out), plastic silverware/cups/plates, confusing for first-time visitors, staff isn't too friendly

A lot of hype, but very average.

MY REVIEW: WE HAD LUNCH AT NIKO NIKO'S ON A SATURDAY.WE ARRIVED EARLY ,AT AROUND 11 AM, AS WE HAD HEARD OF THE LONG LINES.DIMITRI WAS SITTING AT A TABLE WITH GREEK FRIENDS,KEEPING AN EYE ON EVERYTHING.THE RESTAURANT WAS ALMOST EMPTY.WE PLACED OUR ORDERS AT THE COUNTER AND SAT DOWN.THE FOOD WAS AMAZING.WE HAD GYROS WITH OVEN ROASTED POTATOES.EVERYTHING WAS FRESH AND DELICIOUS.THE PORTIONS WERE SO LARGE THAT MY HUSBAND HAD TO HELP ME FINISH MY PLATE.I CAN CERTAINLY UNDERSTAND WHY THIS RESTAURANT HAS SUCH A LOYAL FOLLOWING.

WE HAD ONLY BEEN SITTING THERE FOR A FEW MINUTES WHEN IT SEEMED THAT HALF OF HOUSTON DECIDED TO SHOW UP.THE LINE ALMOST REACHED THE DOOR IN JUST A FEW SHORT MINUTES.WE EVEN RAN INTO FRIENDS WHO LIVE ACROSS TOWN.GETTING THERE EARLY IS A GOOD IDEA IF YOU DON'T WANT TO STAND IN A LONG LINE.

THE DECOR WAS BEAUTIFUL.THE OUTDOOR SEATING AREA WITH ITS GREEK THEMED IRON FENCE AND BLOOMING JASMINE WAS PERFECT.THE GREEK MUSIC AND AMBIANCE WERE WONDERFUL.ITS EVIDENT THAT ATTENTION HAS BEEN PAID TO EVERY SMALL DETAIL.VERY,VERY IMPRESSIVE.

WE PLAN ON BECOMING FREQUENT CUSTOMERS.I CAN'T RECOMMEND IT ENOUGH.

MY REVIEW: There was not enough parking. The restaurant was loud and unwelcoming. When we finally received our food it was served on plastic plates; the ‘silverware’ was plastic; the cups were plastic; the chairs and tables were plastic. We asked to substitute fries for vegetables – we were charged extra. The food was reasonably satisfying, good portions and fresh.

If a plastic Aphrodite Barbie-doll is authentically classical then this restaurant is authentically Greek.

MY REVIEW: Ive been coming to Niko Niko's for years, and each time I've been happy with the food and the service. Good points:

Large portions, perfect for taking some home afterwards.

Food is served promptly.

The place is kept clean, and with the renovations they have more seating.

Bad points:

Don't go during the middle of the lunch or dinner rush, the line can snake out the door!

They added a parking lot, but it is still hard to find a spot sometimes.

Overall, the food is wonderful, the ambience is great, and the prices are reasonable. I love this place!
