4100 FM 1960 Rd W, Houston, Texas 77068 281.586.2023 MY REVIEW: Wow - horrible attitudes at this place. We waited forever and families that came after us were seated one after the other. It was right out of Seinfeld. I went up to look at the list (and hadn't looked at it before) and the girl says in the snottiest voice, "The list hasn't changed". I can spend $200 at a lot of better places with people who care.

9556 FM 1960 Bypass Rd W, Humble, Texas 77338 281.446.3373 MY REVIEW: The food was ok, the service was ok but a little rude, the atmosphere was subpar- full of families with screaming little kids, and the chef was so-so.
Overall A*sian City is MUCH better food, MUCH better service, MUCH better atmosphere and *costs less*.
I might be willing to give HB another try, but I know I'll get a good meal much cheaper just around the corner at A*sian City, so why bother?

4100 FM 1960 Rd W, Houston, Texas 77068 281.586.2023 MY REVIEW: I love the atmosphere of the place. They are a little bit short on staff though. I went during one of the 'slow' time. It was when people were wrapping up their lunch rush. The cooks weren't very consistent. At times they would be entertaining, but others it would be grim and quiet.

4100 FM 1960 Rd W, Houston, Texas 77068 281.586.2023 MY REVIEW: First of all I love the soup and salad!!! The Fried Rice is addicting and is really one of the main reasons I am a return customer. Of course there is always a waiting list.... but now days where isn't there one : ) Anyway, overall the only thing I would change is maybe hire a few more people to make the customers feel a little more "special and appreciated!" After all the prices are higher because of the atmosphere, but everyone wants to get their money's worth today right? I recommend this restaurant to others! Eat & be Entertained!!! Happy Eating----

We were entertained by not only our chef but others around us. The food was most delicious and we are making plans to go back in a week or two with some friends. I highly reconmend this restaurant to anyone and every one.

Lets not all cry about the wait staff. The place is packed 24/7. I have never been in their without having to wait at least 15-20 minutes to eat and the waiters are always running from table to table trying to get everything taken care of but they are always friendly. The last time I went the Manager came to our table to greet us and ask how the food was. He was very polite and never ignored our comments. Me and my boyfriend try to make it a monthy thing to go and we both love it. All of our visitors we have taken have loved it as well. I hope you love this place as much as I do!!!! 5 Start to HB!

The chef's whom serve in our tables have been good but sometimes the waitress have been a little slow, for that reason the management needs to put more emphasys in this point.

4100 FM 1960 Rd W, Houston, Texas 77068 281.586.2023 MY REVIEW: This is the second time I have been to this particular location. While the food is excellent...the service needs improvement. My mother and I were at the Hibachi with my sons. The waitress had no personality and just wanted to know what we wanted to drink and to eat. There were several times that our glasses were empty. The hibachi chef was great and the food was wonderful. While we were still eating our main courses, our check was delivered and we were asked what flavor ice cream we wanted. This was unacceptable. (The other diners at the grill were still eating thier main dishes also.) I went and spoke to the manager and told him that a restaurant this expensive should provide better service and that I felt like we were being pushed out the door. He then followed me back to see where I was sitting and then explained that the waitress was also covering the sushi bar. I suggested re-drawing the areas to provide better service. All in all..I was very disappointed....only because of the service.

4100 FM 1960 Rd W, Houston, Texas 77068 281.586.2023 MY REVIEW: I have a special connection with the HB Japenese Steak House on 1960 W as they opened two years ago on my birthday and for two years in a row I celebrated my b-day dinners there. I can honestly say the first year was better than the second. I have visited HB's several times between the two visits and it seems they have reduce their quality of customer service tremendously.
Last night I took my 10 year old son, my Mother, and my Sister out to dinner there. Our table was full with our party and one other. Immediately I noticed they were short staffed... all the hibachi tables were full and only 3 or 4 chefs in sight. The waitress accomidated us with drinks, soup, and salad in a timely manner but we waited a good 25 minutes after that before our chef showed up.
The food was delicious as always...but I'm hoping they will up the customer service to complimary standards in the near future.

The service is GREAT the staff is Awesome, and as far as Carlos goes......He is one of the best chef's I've ever seen. His one liners kept me rolling and his food prep. was fabulous. 4100 FM 1960 Rd W, Houston, Texas 77068 281.586.2023 MY REVIEW: We took my daughter to HB for her birthday. I requested one of their "top" chefs so we would have a GREAT show for my daughter. The chef was angry-performed ABSOLUTELY NO SHOW and did not add any seasoning to any food as he was cooking (no salt, pepper, sesame seeds, etc). It was HORRIBLE. The chef behave like a 2-year old - his name was CARLOS (we have had him once before and he was great).

Except that they were about halfway through their salads and soups. Not only did it make us uneasy, it did not go over well with the other party. The wait staff is by far one of the worst I have seen. I had to flag them down several times for drinks. Then to top things off. The chef we had was not prepared. He had to make several trips to the kithchen for supplies. And he was about as exciting as a dead person. This was our first, and our last visit to HB.

The service HAS BEEN lousy!!! The waitresess never comes back to find out if you need anything. We have had tempura "forgotten" as well as extra ordered rice. I even had iced tea poured in my lap. If you look around the wait staff are spread very thin. It is a shame, the food is very good but I won't return.

We requested 2 chefs who were too busy and asked the waitress to reccommend one. Chef Julian was personable, fun and entertaining, but more important the food was very good. It was cooked exactly the way we ordered, the soup, salad and shrimp were excellent. Our party had chicken, shrimp and various seafood, all very good. There was plenty of food for all. The special birthday thing they did was priceless and the photo was free. The service was very good. We will definately eat there again.

4100 FM 1960 Rd W, Houston, Texas 77068 281.586.2023 MY REVIEW: I was very surprised to read the bad reviews about this restaurant. I've been going there for years, my friends and family love it also. The choices on visits didn't give me the correct option. I've been dozens of times, but they really don't know my name. The food is fantastic & always more than any of us can eat. The fried rice and the Hibachi steak, shrimp & chicken are the best! Although the cooks do not have the skills of those at B*enihana's, there are some good entertaining cooks there. Unfortunately, it's kind of the luck of the draw as to which is assigned to your table. It does make it enjoyable when they are entertaining, but you can tell that some have a little problem with the language. The food, however, more than makes up for this. I've never been treated badly by the hostess & they constantly fill our tea glasses & clear things like opened sugar packets throughout the meal. If you're looking for entertainment like B*enihana's, this is not the place as most just don't have those skills, but they also don't have the high prices that B*enihana's has. For good Japanese food cooked on the grill in front of you, this is the place to go! We consider it a treat every time we dine there.

4100 FM 1960 Rd W, Houston, Texas 77068 281.586.2023 MY REVIEW: My only advice is to call before you go if attempting to dine for lunch on the weekend or the Monday after a holiday weekend. They often close without any notice. I have driven 20 minutes to get there twice, only to find a closed sign on the door during normal business hours. Also, when you call you may be greeted by only a "hello" rather than a business greeting, and by someone who speaks little English. Aside from this, the food is awesome! The service depends on which chef you get. They should provide more training to the chefs for consistency in the presentations.

4100 FM 1960 Rd W, Houston, Texas 77068 281.586.2023 MY REVIEW: The food was great, but the chef was terrible and the management even worse. My family went for the food as well as the show, my kids love it, but there was only one problem, there was no show. The chef did nothing for us but cook. I told management and I was not looking for any free food, I just wanted them to know. They just looked at me as if I was crazy and said that I am sorry you feel that way the show was not up to par and then ignored me. There was another family that had the same experience as I did and they were speaking with the manager also. I WILL never go back to this place, I can get the same quality food at K*OBE or B*enihana with a much better show and I know for a fact that I will get treated better. I had a horrible experience and that it is a shame that I will not be going back because the management does not know how to run a restarant.

I WILL NOT be ready to be seated unless Carlos is our chef. He's very entertaining and witty, and I love the "Union Break" of his act. I highly recommend this restaurant, but it won't be as enjoyable if Carlos isn't your chef.

4100 FM 1960 Rd W, Houston, Texas 77068 281.586.2023 MY REVIEW: I am a person who loves eating out and I do so about 10 or more times weekly, including lunch and dinner. Being an experienced frequent diner, I have high expectations when it comes to the quality of the food, the service, and overall ambiance of the dining establishments I eat in. I am not easily satisfied. Having said this, I can honestly say that HB Steakhouse is an excellent place to dine. I make a point of dining there at least once a month and often take out of town guests as well. Everyone I have taken to HB really enjoys it.
The quality of their steaks, lobster, shrimp, chicken, calamari and sushi is high end and definitely top drawer. It is all freshly prepared, seasoned well and of excellent taste. The portions are also generous, which often requires my taking some out (people bag) for later enjoyment. My personal favorite meal is to have the sushi spider roll (soft shell crab) as an appetizer and the HB Special (steak and lobster) as my entree. Of course, I always have the fried rice, made with chicken and egg, in lieu of the steamed rice. The entree comes with shrimp appetizer, an excellent mushroom and scallion broth soup, and a chilled salad. It is also accompanied by a medley of grilled vegetables consisting of bean sprouts, onions, mushrooms and zucchini. For dessert, I have chocolate ice cream. From their well stocked full bar I enjoy Remy Martin VSOP. The wait staff is friendly and attentive. The teppan chefs (table grill specialist) have always given us a great performance in the flair with which they prepare our food selections. My personal favorite is Carlos. He is witty, funny and extremely entertaining. As a word of caution, however, some portions of his act my be inappropriate for children under 13 so I give him a PG-13 rating.
The newly built, Japanese design free standing building which houses HB is beautiful and spacious. Their large paking lot, extending completely around the building, offers plenty of convenient parking for patrons. Inside it has a separate sushi dining area, a large central area for their many grilling tables and private space for small private parties located just off of the main dining area. The entire inside is tastefully decorated in a Japanese motif and has the Japanese rice paper style screens throughout. The bathrooms are always clean and fresh which is a hallmark of good restaurant management. HB Steakhouse has great ambience for this type of dining establishment. In summary, HB offers great food, good service and reasonable prices. Cost to benefit, it is the best of it's kind in Houston.

4100 FM 1960 Rd W, Houston, Texas 77068 281.586.2023 MY REVIEW: I was a little apprehensive after reading some of the reviews, but as hoped. . . .Everything was great!!!
We were celebrating a birthday, five people in our party but we were seated with a family of three. This really had no effect on our party's comfort because you couldn't even hear the other party's conversation. We sat down at 7:30 on Thursday and received prompt, courteous service from a busy waitress who was "workin' it"! We never felt abandoned or snubbed, and she was great about checking back for satisfaction, drinks etc.
We had some japanes beers, iced tea, and sake, which unfortunately only comes in one size carafe. It only holds about 2 1/2 little cups, so ya gotta keep 'em coming if you have a large group. Tea was consistently refilled by secondary servers.
Overall, the food was excellent! **** I shared and tasted with everyone to get a feel for the place.
I ordered sushi, everyone else had something from the hibachi menu. Our Chef "Jhonny" was funny, yet reserved and was IMPRESSIVELY skilled in his performance. We didn't feel hindered by his "routine" and chatted while he worked away on our beautiful dinners! We also got a chance to see "John" perform at the table next to us, and we were surprised, as he seemed equally trained in showmanship.
We ordered calamari for an appetizer and it was very nicely fried and was served with tempura vegetables too!
The soup that comes with all hibachi dinners is a very tasty broth with mushrooms and scallion. The salad with a ginger dressing was fresh, cold and had a very nice flavor-- tangy and subtle ginger.
One thing to note is that with hibachi dinners fried rice costs extra but the waiter just asks "Do you want fried or white rice" when he/she takes the order. It was $9 extra for 4 people and there was even some left for me after everyone was served. I can say that it was well worth the charge, with little bits of chicken and egg in it! The flavor was very "homemade" and I enjoyed it.
Johnny asked how everyone wanted their steaks cooked, and he delivered with the exception of one medium+ filet that was ordered medium rare. It was tender and tasty so my sister didn't seem to mind the "over-doneness" :) I think the problem was that the meat was cooked, cut, and then stayed on the grill too long before hitting the plate. To be safe, next time we'll just order one temperature under what we really want!
The vegetables of bean sprout, zuchini, mushroom, and onion were cooked on the grill with seasoning, and soy. They were very good with the meat and a decent serving, but nothing spectacular.
The sushi menu is separate from the hibachi menu and they have a brilliant system. They give you a paper with all the sushi items on it (numbers correspond to menu) and you just write the quantity next to the item. Personally, I love this idea because I like to take a long time to browse without feeling pressured. You just fill it out and give it to the waiter. There is one two-sided laminate that describes all the rolls and their ingredients.
My sushi was all very good. I ordered a variety to share with everyone including: salmon and tuna sashimi (raw) was beautifully presented with paper-thin lemon slices and were cut in 1 1/2 square peices that were thick, but not too large. Very fresh, no smell, great taste. The California roll (for the birthday boy) was on par, for what it is. :) I decided to order 3 hand rolls (cones) one "firecracker" which had 3 types of raw fish, rice, spicy sauce, masago (tiny fish eggs), and a little greenery. Second was "spider" roll, my personal favorite, with tempura soft shell crab, avocado, masago, special sauce, "crab meat" and rice rolled in a crispy seaweed paper (nori). So delicious, and nutricious!!! The third role was "rock 'n roll", tempura shrimp with similar dressings to the "spider". I thought it was all great, and I am a die hard I*chibon lover!
My sister's meal came with a scoop of icecream. Butter Pecan, Chocolate, or Sherbet. Anothr table had a birthday and they did something special for it, but we skipped all that! The total bill was about $130 and that was for 5 people. We didn't drink too much, so alcohol wasn't a big portion of the bill. We thought it was very reasonable and have definitely paid more for less at other places. We'll be back soon, and not just to celebrate.
My only weak point for HB is the atmosphere. The place is a little sterile as far as ambiance and very casual as far as the dress of other patrons. On the way out, I did notice that the front portion of the restaraunt (sushi only area)looked nicer and had better lighting. There was a sushi bar as well. I just think it's difficult to get decent ambiance on the hibachi side with giant vent hoods over the table-- not much can be done about that!
Try it, I think you'll be impressed!

4100 FM 1960 Rd W, Houston, Texas 77068 281.586.2023 MY REVIEW: I love this place. I cant imagine anybody having a problem with it. I go quite frequently(I am going with friends tonight) and every time I have a good time, eat some great food at a good price and am treated like family. If I go without my children the staff ask how my kids are and ask me to bring them next time. The sushi is some of the best and freshest I have ever had. I would (and do) recommend this restuarant to everyone.

4100 FM 1960 Rd W, Houston, Texas 77068 281.586.2023 MY REVIEW: I will agree with many of the other reviewers on here --- that it is rare to be treated as a valued customer... I try to attribute it to a difference in cultures, but maybe they just really do hate their customers or jobs.. LOL. HOWEVER, I will say that their FOOD IS AWESOME! We were first taken here years ago for a friend's birthday, and we loved their food. We've been back many times since, and have brought friends there ourselves.. We have NEVER had a single person say anything but GREAT things about their food. So, the moral of the story is: Don't expect to be treated as royalty, but be surprised if the food isn't one of the best meals you'll eat! :)
