MY REVIEW: I was winding down at work on a Tuesday and had a strange craving for some sushi. I only eat the cooked kind, and it had been a while since I had some. I researched on the internet and found Matsu on Eldridge was on the way home and had decent reviews so I decided to call in an order to pick up. A young lady picked up the phone, and I told her I had never eaten there before, and need to know which sushi was the cooked kind. She was very patient with me. I really appreciated that she went down the entire menu and pointed out the cooked ones, and answered my questions. I opted for the California real crab roll, and the Bungee roll. When I got there (around 5:45p), parking was ample, and I parked right in front of the door. I could see no other customers inside when I walked in. There were 2 young sushi chefs and the young lady at the counter. The place looked very clean and cozy. I could see my order was ready on the counter. The young lady asked if I wanted regular sauce or low-sodium sauce, and I said low-sodium. I couldn't wait to get a bite of the sushi, so I opened it in the car and ate one bite of the Cali roll. Even though it was low-sodium, the sauce seemed salty to me. The ginger and wasabi came wrapped in plastic wrap. I ate the rest after getting home. The eel and soft-shell crab in the Bungee was crispy and seasoned just right. Though the wasabi was plenty, the ginger was not enough for my 2 rolls. Overall, I think the sushi was pretty good and fresh, and the value was OK, but perhaps I will get their lunch specials next time.

MY REVIEW: My friend and I were having a girls night out and wanted to have some sushi. Since the sushi place closest to here offered bland and poorly made sushi, the next closest one (and also that had just opened up the prior week on Tuesday) was Matsu Sushi Bar off of 1531 Eldrige Parkway Suite 185 Houston, Texas 77077.
We were greeted with a warm welcome from the 2 male sushi chefs (both young and good looking!) and a very friendly hostess. My friend and I sat at the bar and glanced over the menu. Our food was served perfect and our chefs were extremely friendly. We were getting constant refills on our drinks, and even though my sushi was made incorrectly, the chef who had made it offered a free scoop of Red Bean Ice Cream. IT WAS DELICIOUS!
Lindsey and I were so happy with our experience that we vowed to definitely come back for sure! Great staff, great food, awesome prices, and a very relaxed atmosphere!
I absolutely cannot wait to go back on my 24th birthday for lunch! AND IT'S ONLY A WEEK AWAY ON HALLOWEEN!

MY REVIEW: Matsu has been a favorite of my family for many years, as I always take my children there on special occasions. Every time I'm here I am treated very nicely by all the waitresses especially Christy, whom always offers a pleasant conversation. Although I was rudely accepted by the boss, I still come here very often. I have been to many different Sushi restaurant over the state, but none of them can compare to the spectacular rolls provided by the BEST SUSHI CHEF in town JIM!!!

MY REVIEW: I have had sushi and sashimi all over the country and this place is by the far one of the Best. The consistancy of the quality of the food and the exceptional, immpeccable service of the wait staff and Sushi Chefs simply can't be matched. The food is fresh, creatively prepared and served quickly, but without rush. The ambience is quiet and my husband and I love to go and just unwind there after a hard days work. One of the best places to serve peppered ahi. It simply is the best sushi place in all of Houston.

MY REVIEW: My husband and I love Matsu and were THRILLED when they first opened. We were new from Denver and didn't want to drive all the way down to Westheimer to find sushi. The staff are wonderful, especially Jim, THE sushi chef extraordinaire!!! Love the food!! The sushi is the best in town and the freshest.

MY REVIEW: Absolutely the best sushi we have ever had, period! (And we've had it all over town and in other parts of the country) Always perfect, fresh and clean, clean clean. The staff is friendly and very knowledgeable and will gladly direct the sushi first timers to the items that will suit their tastes. The Japanese cuisine is also very good. There are also many items for the kids who may not prefer sushi or traditional Japanese.
The Astro Roll (an original creation) is magic and totally unique. Try the New York roll and the wonderful Tuna Tatake as well. Also, don't skip the incredible Japanese ice creams. (The plumb wine ice cream is truly great) The atmosphere is relaxed and the prices are reasonable, but not cheap. (Truly great food never is) You will not regret one penny. Go once and you WILL be back again and again.

MY REVIEW: I went to Matsu's with a co-worker at lunchtime. The place was decorated really cute. It made me feel like I was in Japan! The waitress was really nice. She told me and my co-worker that we were cute...she even gave us extra edamame, which was out-of-sight! Best edamame ever. We ordered a bit too much food but it was really good. Even us downtowners liked it! We ordered the Astro roll, which was the chef's special, and it was so good. I couldn't even fit the whole piece in my mouth. We also ordered the spicy tuna roll and philadelphia roll. yummy! The waitress was very attentive, our glasses were always full. The food came out really quickly which was good since we went on our lunch break. As we left, we noticed the toothpicks were really cute, that was a plus! I will definitely go again! 5 stars!

MY REVIEW: I highly recommend this place if your on the north side of Houston. Probably the most authentic japanese food on this side of town. They even have my favorite "futomaki" which I rarely find at most sushi bars. My only complaint is the rice they use for the sushi needs have a little more flavor imo.

MY REVIEW: Consistently the best sushi around--even downtowners should come out and see for themselves. I don't hesitate to go downtown to eat good food, but Matsu is one fine exception. We didn't have to come very often before everyone (the whole staff who stays very much the same) knows you, and even what you'll probably order! They are service oriented and the freshest we've found in sushi. Smart, beautiful presentations and tastes even better. What used to be my once a week Mexican food fix has now become a sushi habit, and it wouldn't be satisfied anywhere but here.

MY REVIEW: Wow! It was our first visit, and we will be back often! We called ahead to get directions and spoke with the owner herself. When we walked in the door she immediately figured out who we were. Knowing that this was our first visit, she had the Chefs answer all of our questions, they made special rolls, and she was constantly there helping us along. The entire staff was friendly and the food was out of this world. Not only was it the freshest sushi we have ever had, it was also the prettiest! Presentation was beautiful. I recommend the volcano to start! Try the snake roll, it is almost too neat looking to eat...but EAT it! Just a fantastic expierence. Even kids are welcome there! Will go again, and again, and again....

MY REVIEW: You walk in the door and they greet you personally. I have been going to Matsu for years! My European friends seek good sushi and now are also regulars - so much so that it is a ritual to get off the afternoon Lufthansa or KLM flight and go to Matsu before going to the hotel or home! the food is the freshest! the seaweed salad, the soups are fabulous, the tuna, yellow tail and sweet eel are to die for! and try the snake roll - all of it is of superior quality. Fine Food, Excellent Service. What more do you want? A less expensive wine selection... a glass of Pinot Grigio costs $10.00(albeit Santa Margarita)
