MY REVIEW: My wife and I have been going to Cafe Japon for years.

Recently I think they have changed management and menu.

The new manager is very attentive. The waitress Melinda took real care of our needs always. I have to commend on their improved menu also. Peppercorn Tuna is a thumbs up. Not to mention their Beef Kabob. YUMMY! Keep it up.

MY REVIEW: I used to go here all the time for lunch, but it has really gone downhill. It seems there is a new manager, and unfortunately, they have two waitresses manning the entire restaurant. It is not their fault due to being understaffed, but there is definitely slow service. Unfortunately, the food quality has also gone downhill, at least for lunch--cold soup, warm sushi and forgotten side dishes make for an bad meal. Not to metion the old carpet and ripped up booth seats. I've been going there since it opened, but my patience has run thin.

MY REVIEW: We have gone to Cafe Japon for years because it's reliable and open late. Tonight we were surprised because the menus have been reprinted (improved) and they have some new appetizers which we really liked - one was fried shrimp in a martini glass and the other was raw fish on cucumber on top of the end of a martini glass with fruit. Also had edamame, ebi and unagi, and dragon rolls. Dinner was a real treat, I can already tell I am going to be craving this. The people working there seemed happier and more upbeat than usual too. I just had to login and give them kudos.

MY REVIEW: Cafe Japon has been one of my favorite restaurants over a decade. Their happy hour prices can't be beat and they are open till 2AM in the morning during weekends. When I'm hungry for sushi after clubbing, this is the place to go for a quick bite. When you go there, make sure you ask for an asian waittress named Melinda. She's very attentitive, polite, and fast. And always tip at least 20 percent because these hardworking girls work for like 2 bucks an hour. I go there at least once a week.

MY REVIEW: I used to love Cafe Japon for their great happy hour. You could even order happy hour to go, unlike many other places that wouldn't even let you take your leftover sushi to go if it was ordered during happy hour. However, Japon has recently made some changes to their happy hour menu, by increasing their sushi from $1/piece to $1.25/piece, and $2/hand roll to $2.50/hand roll. While that by itself is not so bad, they decided to exclude salmon, unagi and yellowtail from their sushi special, as well as spider hand rolls and yellowtail handrolls, which is extremely disappointing as those items are things I normally order when I go eat sushi. On top of that, the service was incredibly slow. Our waitress took 15 minutes to get our drink order, another 20 minutes to get our food order, and disappeared after that. Not to mention the manager, who seemed to be too "busy" to notice that the customers were trying to get his attention since they couldn't get any from the waitresses. To be honest, it just seemed like he was walking really fast back and forth in the dining area doing nothing. What happened to that nice hispanic manager they used to have? He was very attentive. To sum it up, there are plenty of other sushi restaurants around the area to go for happy hour sushi that will give you better prices, a better selection and MUCH faster service. I used to like Cafe Japon, but it's just not worth it anymore.

MY REVIEW: Consistency is key and Cafe Japon knows how to do it. I've not once been disappointed. It's a little too dim to see what I'm eating sometimes, but do you really need to see it when it tastes THAT good? Exactly.

MY REVIEW: I was absolutely disappointed with the service tonight. I arrived 15 minutes early and sat at the sushi bar. I immediately began to realize that the manager was not in control of things because I kept being asked the same question over and over - was I still waiting for someone, did I want an appetizer? No communication all the way to the end when it took forever to get my bill.

The other distraction was the somewhat cocky fellow of non-Japanese origin who was the sushi chef. When my friend asked the chef if he had any Flounder or maybe Halibut, the chef responded in a very dead ass manner - "They're the same fish." Right or wrong, just answer politely - "Yes or No we don't have any right now." Add the fact of actually handing my friend two hand rolls over the counter and not on plates coupled with sub optimal temperatures on the sushi, and I have no desire to return again. Visit M*atsu in the Champion Forest are of Spring/Houston, TX. You will find what a sushi restaurant is about.

The one good thing this evening was the friendly dimeanor of the hostess and lady who waited on us. Sorry that I cannot be more positive.

MY REVIEW: Atmosphere nice and "japaneezie". Was a little dissapointed with dress code, ie, getting tired of guys wearing cheap flip-flops, wrong size short pants, and whatever t-shirt was on top of the laundry basket, and of course the hoochie-mamma strupmet worthy clothes which pass for female fashion, or lack there of.

It seemed like a very casual family place, fook was ok, however I ordered the Chicken Teriyaki, and it was pretty bad, dry, tough and in a point, tasteless. I did not complain as my palet is not as delicate as others, however, I will complain with my patronage.

Waitress very helpful and friendly.

Dessert was ok as well, wife had the tempura ice cream, ice cream good, tempora not, I had the chocolate mousse cake, not bad.

It is ok, but I suspect that I would have been happier going to Taco C*abana. Maybe we will try B*enihana next time.

MY REVIEW: Very nice atmosphere, romantic and dimmed. I just love how they have a variety of fresh fish specials from Toro, Blue fin, to AmaEbi (sweet shrimp) to other fishes like spanish mackeral and shima-aji. They are all wonderful. service is excellent and friendly. I strongly recommend going there and trying all the exotic fishes.

MY REVIEW: I had my first experience with sushi in Cafe Japon, and I am hooked. Though I have tried several other restaurants in the area, Cafe Japon remains the best I have stated thus far. The restaurant decor is nice, and offering an understated elegance. The staff is especially helpful in explaining choices if you are a novice to Japanese food. However, I will agree with another poster-- this is NOT a kid friendly restaurant-- so make it a date night with your spouse or significant other, and leave any children at home.

MY REVIEW: I went there 3 pr 4 times, to get their very good food to go for a sick friend who loves caterpillar roll. However, the last time it felt like nobody paid any attention. I waited for a menu for a good ten minutes, nobody brought me my green tea until I reminded and the food preparation took at least twice longer than usual. New and bad management? What's wrong?

MY REVIEW: Very enjoyable experience. I am an amature sushi eater, however, Cafe Japon is wonderful. I love the Kani, and as far as the rolls the Calafornia, Spider and Shrimp Tempura are the best. The Phoenix roll was extremly good, but had a little to much sauce on top. The atmosphere is nice, but I would not say kid friendly because of the low lights and intamacy. The price I believe is well spent, and service is extraordinary. The last time I was there a shipment of sushi had jut arrived, so its fresh. I drive from the east side of town at least once a month.

MY REVIEW: My wife and I enjoy the food here at Cafe Japon. We come here maybe on average of once a month. This is one of our favorite Sushi Restaurant here in town. Now that we moved to the suburbs, it just made it a little harder for us to make it, otherwise, its location is perfect and easy to get to from everywhere. Sushi is usually fresh and tasty. I would not recommend the Udon noodle because the noodles gets too soggy. Last time we were there, the services was a little slow.

MY REVIEW: Fantastic environment. Nicely decorated and very relaxing. Service was great. The waitresses we have had have been consistently good. They seem to be bad about running out of certain beers. I know that sounds strange, but everytime we have been, they are out of Coors Light and Bud light. They also don't serve Kirin Light so I inevitably wind up with a Sapparo. The sushi has been very consistent. Cool and fresh and looks fantastic as well as tastes. The beef Udon noodle soup is the best in town to me and the gyoza(dumplings), are also very good. I strongly recommend giving Cafe Japon a try if you have never been there. If you like Japanese food, you will not be disappointed. We love it.

On a scale of 1-10, I give Cafe Japon a very solid 8.

MY REVIEW: I don't know why but occasionally I'll get a yen for a bowl of Beef Udon and Japon has the best in the city in my opinion! This is the place where I was introduced to Udon and it's a perfect choice for lunch if you're looking for something that's not too filling. The waitstaff at this location seemed friendly enough and were prompt and followed up well..no complaints. I need to be more daring in the future and try the sushi but I've never been much of a sushi person. The decor here is nice enough and the prices are reasonable.. especially their lunch menu.. I would recommend this place.. I haven't frequented that many Japanese restaurants but was impressed with this one. Keep up the good work!

MY REVIEW: Excellent Japanese food...you are more likely to get a seat if you eat a late lunch or you'll likely have a 20 minute wait. The tofu steak is a delicious appetizer which is tofu cooked in a teriyaki sauce with scallions, green onions and ginger. Dont pass up the fresh spicy tuna roll and spider (softshell crab) roll. Finish dinner with their deep fried breaded banana with vanilla bean ice cream. I have yet to be disappointed by anything I've tried here.

MY REVIEW: The food was great, however the waitstaff seemed like they either hated us or their job. All we got were frowns and poor service. Took forever to get our order taken and even longer to recieve our food. What me & my wife thought was strange, is that EVERY asian person that came in got all the smiles, warmth and speedy service. We spent a lot of money, trying various things and asking the waitstaff about menu items, still we got zero personality and tons of frowns. We still had a wonderful meal, cold beers and we'll definitely go back, only because the food and prices were right on. The spicy tuna thing was awesome. We've tried other sushi places and this is by far the best one west of the Galleria. But, if you want attentive service and friendly waitstaff, you won't find it here unless you are asian.
