Garden Bistro Vegan Vegetarian (CLOSED)

 9013 Westheimer Rd Houston TX

MY REVIEW: This restaurant closed. A Chinese seafood restaurant is opening in its place. This was by far the best vegetarian restaurant in Houston. It had a wonderful selection and unique foods impossible to find elsewhere. We're heartbroken over this. They darn well better open elsewhere!

Two sad eaters,

Jordan & Maria

MY REVIEW: I ate here with my boyfriend and we both agreed that the food was kind of cold since it sits out on the buffet. Maybe I should order something next time I go, but I don't think there will be a next time. They did have good soup though.

MY REVIEW: I am not sure "Everybody knows my name..." ... maybe the waitress could know my name from the credit card ... but definitely "everybody knows my face". :-)

We go there regularly and my wife especially like their mock fish. We like it better than the other veggie restaurant on Weistheimer, but some of my friends like both equally.

MY REVIEW: We went on a Sunday. When we called for directions, there was a language barrier. We arrived to see a disappointing buffet. The staff was indifferent to us. We won't go back again.

MY REVIEW: May be it's the wrong day!!!

After I read all the review below, I decided to try this vegetarian place for the first time. I went to this place for lunch buffet today and was very disappointed. The quality of the food is unacceptable and with the price they charged, I rather go to another vegetarian place on Westheimer.

The majority of their items are left over from yesterday or the day before yesterday. The restaurant opens at noon and I was there around 12.40 pm. The stir fried vegetable with tofu, fried rice, vegan egg rolls, and several other stir fired items are obviously left over, I can tell by just looking at and taste some of those items. It was lunch hour and there was just two tables (me and another 2 people) in the restaurant at that time. Returning customers and positive word of mouth are crucial for restaurant business. This is the first and last time I will go to this restaurant.

One good thing, at least the waitress is very attentive.

MY REVIEW: I tried the Garden Bistro today for the first time and it surpassed by expectations. Everything in the buffet was delicious--- I especially loved the sushi rolls (amazing!!!!), the sweet and sour soy delight, and the homestyle tofu. The hostess was very sweet and attentive. The price was also very reasonable- $6.95 lunch/$8.95 dinner. The variety of the selection was good, especially since everything is vegetarian. I will definetely come here again.

MY REVIEW: i went here for my birthday with my family (a table of 13). they were not familiar with vegan food but they all agreed that this place had really good food. they were surprised at how full (and satisfied)they were after eating just one plate. the waitress was very sweet as well as the rest of the employees there. we stayed there for about 2-3 hours! the atmosphere was nice.

remember to tip well! (they deserve it) i will go back as soon as i can.

MY REVIEW: The buffet is amazing I love the homemade tofu. Off the menu the veggie fried shrimp is a must. The owners are so nice and they always welcome you back. They have been very tolerant off my loud and crazy 4-year old since he was 2. They have everything from pita bread sandwiches to veggie kung pao. And the sell a great tasting tofurky on X-mas and Thanksgiving.(Its on the buffet too)

MY REVIEW: I personally do not really like vegetarian food (tofu products, veggie burgers, etc.) and I am a total carnivore, but it was very surprising to see that I could not tell the difference between chinese food and the vegan-chinese food here. The people are so nice, the place is clean, they offer cooking classes and they even GIVE AWAY their recipies to vegans because they know how hard it is to find good entrees! I will definately visit this place again soon.

MY REVIEW: I'm not a vegetarian but the food here is so delicious that it can stand on its own. It is very satisfying and healthy -- you'll feel great for the rest of the day. The variety is amazing and the restaurant is spotless. It is also kosher and meets Buddhist dietary requirements as well.

MY REVIEW: Houstonians may remember this place as the site of the old "Green Planet Cafe." Much upgraded in atmosphere and food quality, this restaurant is actually a classy, delightful place to eat now. Garden Bistro offers a full Oriental menu encompassing everything from sizzling rice soup to vegetarian sushi, from homemade tofu dishes to savory mock eels. A choice of steamed white or brown rice is offered, and a small but interesting free appetizer/salad bar is worth a visit. Portions are fully adequate. Several fresh juices are on the menu. I've eaten good things here I never even knew existed before.

Still needed: Good filtered water (the tap water is execrable).

Many thanks to Pat and his crew!
