Jimmy G's Cajun Seafood Restaurant
307 Sam Houston Pkwy, Houston, Texas 77060
MY REVIEW: Not a good experience. Service was prompt and attentive. Appetizer of fried mushrooms was OK. Entrees of 2 lbs crawfish was good, pecan crusted trout was poor. The pecans were just tossed on and the portion was small. Entree of tilapia ponchatrain (spelling ?) wasn't hot, the sauce was luke warm and the crab meat was scarce, and portion size was tiny for the price, fries were also luke warm and limp. Garlic bread was served but gummy.
We were very disappointed, the food was not up to the price, and we won't be going back.

MY REVIEW: Dinner on Saturday evening.. I was surprised it was not crowded. Decor was simple and CLEAN. Waiter was engaging and even exchanged my seafood gumbo ( not on target that nite) for the Chicken and sausage gumbo that was to-die-for! So smokey and good with BIG chunks of chicken and sausage. It was labor day weekend and we had the 15 (HUGE BUTTERFLIED) shrimp special. YUMM-MEE!!! Needless to say--we'll be back.

MY REVIEW: It was our turn to pick a restaurant and we wanted seafood. I had been to Jimmy G's during lunch but never dinner. It was wonderful to walk in without being handed a beeper and a mandatory 30-45 wait. We were seated right away and had drinks on our table in five minutes. We ordered a sampler appetizer tray that was fabulous. Oysters, crawfish, shrimp, boudin, brochettes. It was hot, flavorful and a good variety and amount of food.
Our meals were enjoyed by all, especially the duck. The service was very good. Food was brought out in a timely manner and we were never rushed. We were able to linger over coffee and desserts without feeling that we had to vacate to let the waiter have a chance at making more money from a turn of the table.
My only dissapointment is that they did not have bread pudding or creme brulee for dessert. As a native of New Orleans, those two items should be staples in a cajun restaurant.
The ambience may be lacking for some as there are no white tablecloths and little candles in a room too dark to read the menu but it is authentic with the cajun restaurants that populate south Louisiana.
Will definitely be back.

MY REVIEW: Driving home from the airport, I thought I'd give this place a try as an alternative to P*appas. Man was that a MISTAKE. I sat at the bar and experienced the worst service I've ever had in Houston. It was 5:30pm....not much of a crowd, but not empty. It took 15 minutes to get any attention. One drink and appetizer order and the guy disappears for another 15 minutes. No condiments (cocktail, tartar) with the meal. The most OVER-PRICED average food I've ever eaten. Friendly advice --> Go to P*appas if you plan on paying these prices. Heck, go to R*ed Lobster and get better food and service. Completely disappointed and will not return.

MY REVIEW: This is just a wonderful restaurant. I've been coming here for years, often from all the way across town. It's hard to list all the best dishes - just read the menu! Still, some personal favorites that I've recommended with great success over and over again: The chicken and sausage gumbo, the barbecued oysters, the shrimp embrochette, and any of the fish specials on any day.
The only time the service isn't impeccable is during the lunch rush, when there's a waiting line at the door and from 11:30-12:30 and no staff in the city could keep up with this crowd. Still, they do a great job, and they're all like family - this is one of the few restaurants in the city that has managed to keep the same servers for years, or even decades. They're the best in town and they work their butts off to make sure everyone is as happy with the service as they are with the food - which is really saying something.
There are only a handful of genuine Cajun seafood places in town that are as good as their Louisiana cousins, and Jimmy G's ranks in the very highest echelon. The food isn't cheap, but considering how great it is, it's quite fair. Last but not least, the quality is entirely reliable - I've never had one dish that wasn't just the same every time, and that's a wonderful thing!

MY REVIEW: A friend and I ate here for lunch. We both were very disapointed. First of all this place is over priced. We ordered the stuffed shrimp. The filling to the shrimp was cold and cakie. Our fries were soaked in oil and we waited about 45 mins. to get our food. We will never go here again and advise anyone not to.

MY REVIEW: The food is over priced and the service was horrible. I ordered the gumbo and stuffed shrimp. The gumbo was ok, but I've had better. The stuffed shrimp didn't have much of a taste and the french fries were soggy. It took close to a hour to get our food, which was cold. I will not be returning for a second visit.

MY REVIEW: the crawfish bisque is spectacular, the gumbo is very good, the cajun shishkabob is excellent too, all the food we tried was worth the visit. Went there the night before we went to Puerto Vallarta for vacation, we liked it so well we decided to go there on the return trip.....the only weak point was the wait for service, especially on the return trip, but we will go back 'cause the food was exceptional.

MY REVIEW: Food was excellent! Went at lunch a few times and will definitly go again.
Sat at the bar area and bartenders were very nice and very fast at getting your order out and making sure it was correct. One of the best seafood houses i've been to in a long time. Ambiance was nice, very large and open place.
If you like fried shrimp and cold beer this is the place

MY REVIEW: JIMMY G'S IS A VERY POPULAR PLACE FOR THE WORKING MAN'S LUNCH. LUCKILY THERE'S MORE WOMEN SHOWING UP. THEY HAVE WONDERFUL FOOD AND GIVE YOU LOTS OF IT; HOWEVER THE NEW GRILLED OYSTERS ARE TO DIE FOR. WE NOW ORDER 2 DZ. INSTEAD OF ONE AND THEY PUT THEM ON AS SOON AS WE HIT THE DOOR. WE WILL CONTINUE TO GO THERE..
