MY REVIEW: Strong points: good food, reasonably priced
Weak points: serving staff
Have to say, the service was just horrible. The waiters just did not care, we had to sit at a dirty table for 15 min before my friend went to the register and fetched a waiter. Just getting them to take our order was a pain, the waiters just walked by and when we tried to get their attention they just flat out ignored us. If you think i am being harsh, try it for your self. i bet y'all will have a similar experience.
Food was good and the price was reasonable but we're going back.

MY REVIEW: Absolutely the worst service I've ever had anywhere. Older gentleman busing tables was a saint but everyone else was terrible. Wait times were long. The waiter was more interested in flirting with pretty girls than in doing his job. Once I went to the restroom and found four waiters loafing in there. Our waiter figured out that he wasn't getting a tip. When I got my credit card back it was bent and partially broken. I won't be back.

MY REVIEW: Our last visit to Cabo was a great adventure. We had a great server who was very energetic and very quick because we are starving. It is great to visit after a basketball game or baseball game. We ate a couple of fish tacos (An apparent Cabo favorite) and drank margaritas (be careful maybe potent =)) Overall we had a great time and definitely will be back for another round.

MY REVIEW: Our group of seventeen (after theater goers) had a reservation. Before we reserved we specifically ask if we could receive separate checks and were told that yes we could. Upon arrival our waiter at first objected but did indeed take all our orders on separate checks (by couple). Then shortly later the "manager" came by and told us we could not and even had the "General Manager" on the phone to talk with a group member. The GM said they would not do separate checks so we were out of there! We'll never go back and of course will not be offering a recommendation to our friends. Another unusual thing was noted in that no drinks or prices were listed on the menu. I guess their business is so good that they don't need to consider the customer's desires or care much about customer satisfaction?

MY REVIEW: Strong point - outdoor patio.
Weak points - too many!
There were 6 or 7 of us. Every time one of us ordered a drink, our waitress, who, by the way had to be dragged to our table after at least a 30 minute wait, would tell us that they were out of that particular item. No olives for martinis?? No sweet and sour mix for margheritas?? Go figure.
Then when we ordered our food, same song and dance, drag the waitress, order off the menu only to be told they were out of that too.
Here's the kicker, we finally got the manager to our table and *shazam*!, olives magically appeared, sweet and sour mix was raining from the heavens... if the manager was the only person waiting tables, we might have had a better experience.
I've been going to Cabo for quite some time, in the beginning, it was great. Location, food, beverage, service, all top notch. Once the service turned horrendous, it seems everything else went with it.
Won't be going back. There's too much competition in this city to waste good money on crappy service.

MY REVIEW: The food was not a good value for the quality. The "spicy" dishes are not spicy, but instead are quite sweet -- especially the Buffalo wings. The $8.00 margaritas should have been $2.00 well drinks. I've had $8.00 margaitas with top shelf liquor at other places, so I know what an $8.00 marguerita is supposed to taste like, and this is not it. Sitting on the outdoor patio in the evening is a nice experience, and the music completes the ambiance. The service was about average, and our waitress was nice and courteous.

MY REVIEW: Food was yummy and had a nice presentation. The dining outside was fun on a beautiful day. That's the good part.
The service was sloooooow! We sat for 25 minutes and still had nothing to drink or our orders taken. After complaining to the manager, we got our food in about 15 minutes-- complimentary. One of our group ordered tea and water and was only given tea. While someone was cleaning up near us, the large trash bin was opened and stunk to high heaven. Lots of pigeons and their droppings. Looks like a place with good potential, but service and "ambience" (smell) makes it very likely I'll return. Or maybe just try the take-out?

MY REVIEW: Good stuff!! We stopped in before a show...the service was super quick. The margaritas were small and pricey but they were also good and strong. The soft tacos were good and spicy. The possibilities were endless here...eat at the bar or go upstairs for the bar. We loved it!

MY REVIEW: Ambiance was the high point of this restaurant. I and four of my coworkers walked about a mile to try out the place. Nice sunny spot outside. OK, that's the end of the good part. The chairs and tables were full of pigeon poo. The service was slow, even though there were only a couple of other tables filled when we showed up around 11:30 am. The tortilla soup had no tortillas in it, but it did have rice! The tacos are expensive at $4.50 each, but not very big. They were mostly filled with lettuce, onions, and cabbage. I give it a 2 out of 5.

MY REVIEW: I have been there a few times as it is the easiest place to find downtown when you are hungry. However they need to get their act together. We went there to watch the Astros in game one of the world series and it sat on the balcony. It took 20 minutes to get our runny margaritas and by that time the table to our right told us they had waited 1 hr and 30 minutes for their food. But the worst thing of all was our observance of the delivery of the food to left. The waiter put the serving tray on top of the trash can to deliver the freshly prepared food to the table. Bring out a serving tray for crying out loud! After that we were out of there as we didn't want to eat. Maybe this review doesn't really count as we didn't have any food there but I must say I was disappointed in what I witnessed that night.

MY REVIEW: I love Cabo. I was surprised chips and salsa weren't complimentary, but once I realized the menu was a la carte, it totally makes sense. I ordered Fried Plantains. WOW! Those are great. My friend and I ordered nachos with beef fajita meat--easily the best in the city. The patio is huge and give you a great give of downtown and the baseball stadium. Loves it!!!

MY REVIEW: One of my favorite places downtown, Cabo is an excellent choice. I have taken visiting family members to visiting sorority sisters and the place is a great choice for both! The blackened mahi-mahi is to die for and let's not mention the margaritas that seem to fool everybody with their size. They may appear small, but they pack a punch that stops me in my tracks after the first one! Cabo has become a restaurant that I can count on for both self-entertaiment and a wholesome place to bring my family.
This place is a must for all!

MY REVIEW: I'm a Mexican food restaurant junkie. Never have I been to a Mexican, Tex-Mex, etc restaurant where you had to PAY for the chips and salsa. The service is about as bad as it gets. Inside, outside, upstairs, downstairs, at the bar, it doesn't matter. Food is decent as far as taste is concerned. There just isn't enough of it, especially for the prices they charge. Sad thing is, people still pack this place. Oh well.

MY REVIEW: I'll have to separate the Food review from the Experience review.
First, the Food: We ordered the Fried Plantain Appetizer (because regular chips and salsa cost extra - see below) and got Fish and Shrimp Tacos. The Fried Plantains with the creamy cilantro sauce was very good. Both the tacos were good; however they skimped on the fish and shrimp (Shrimp Taco had 3 medium size shrimp).
Second, the Experience: Their menu has different prices depending on where you sit! (I kid you not; uptairs costs more to eat than downstairs??). The restaurant was VERY smokey - the entire restaurant was a smoking section (I thought that Houston outlawed that?). They refused to honor Special Prices posted on the Alley Theatre*s website (one reason we went). They also charge for standard Chips & Salsas; which I refuse to pay extra for (their prices are not that cheap to begin with).
Bottom Line: Very uncomfortable smoke filled restuarant that cost too much money for what it is. Patrons of the arts need to beware because they will not honor posted discounts. I see no reason to ever return.

MY REVIEW: The food was marginal and unlike every Mexican food establishment I have ever visited, you have to pay for your chips and salsa as a separate menu item. Even so, I'm crusing along nicely until I get the bill for my double-Patron margaritas ---- $20 each!! Unbeleivable. Sure...I should have asked the price but Damn! $20? Sad thing is that even with the "double shot" of Patron, it still tasted like punch.
Would I go back? No, not worth the money by a long shot. For what I spent on margaritas, I could have gone to a primo steakhouse in the area. What a ripoff.

MY REVIEW: I joined Mizz Millie's birthday party at this location on a very cool and clear night out on the patio over looking Prairie street.
After I made the hug rounds, I noticed everyone drinking out of plastic cups, ask about it, and was told that is what was served. Being somewhat concerned about the price folks were probably paying for drinks, and since we were not at some red neck BBQ joint, I decided to hit the bar and get my own drink.
I went to the bar up stairs nearest the patio and I could not tell they were even open for business. I stood there for a few minutes waiting. Although the bartender did acknowledged I was there, he continued to run his head and look at some girl's tattoo. Having seen this I decided to go down stairs to bar and it turned out that this bar was about 30% open for business and with the bartender standing idle waiting for customers. I ordered a Crown and Coke tall, insisted on a real glass, and then headed back to the table.
About an hour passed and mostly everyone was not very happy with the service - the waitress passed the table about 10 times in that hour but only once did she think it was proper to see if anyone needed anything and when she did, and after taking the order, she too had to show off her tattoo. Several people ordered the so called "great" tacos and beans but the food was served cold.
This was enough. I suggested that we blow this place and head down Main street to something more realistic and we did.
Would I go back? Nope. The Cabo in Montrose is excellent and makes the Travis location look like childs play.

MY REVIEW: Tacos at Cabo are delicious. PRICEY too. $5 for a taco that's not much bigger than anywhere else (no sides, either)? And then you gotta pay for chips and salsa on top of that (we've gotten spoiled in Texas, I guess - is that more common out of state?). However, the tacos are scrumptious. On Tuesdays they have a 2 for 1 taco special and I'd advise going then.
So-so margaritas, $3 at happy hour for a little plastic cup. I've had better margaritas in bigger glasses for less.
Service can best be described as "if you want something, put up your hand and let us know." Otherwise, the servers won't go out of their way to stop at your table.
Bottom line - very little value for money here, and while the food and drinks are acceptable, they're no better than that. I'm sure I'll be back at some point when meeting friends there, but until then, I know a great Tex-Mex spot on Ella...

MY REVIEW: I work downtown and have the unfortunate problem of having to go with co-workers to Cabo every now and then. I just don't get it, the place has some of the worst food and service and yet seems to have such a good reputation. One time, we ordered queso and frozen margharitas and both came in these little plastic cups, the chips were not crispy and they charged an arm and a leg for the whole experience. The other thing is price, I think if you are charging as much as they are you would expect them to have better food than T*aco Be1l, but no the food is bad and expensive, and poor service.... All I can do is hope that they go out of business because that corner deserves a great mexican restaurant....

MY REVIEW: I worked at R*ed Lobster for 8 years, when it first started it's "fresh fish" menu, back in 1984-85. I remember first learning about mahi-mahi and remembered it being good but not memorable, for me. The plantain-crusted mahi-mahi at Cabo's downtown was so fantastic, so pure, non-fishy, white and cooked to the perfect tenderness. The server was right when she said, "Every time I pick up the plate, there's nothing left." SHe's right, it's irresistable. But the great thing about the dish is that along with the fish, the dish comes with grilled vegetables and rice. A VERY healthy and low-carb dish if that 's where you're dietary needs are.

MY REVIEW: I don't usually write reviews, but I felt compelled to warn others about this shoddy establishment. I went to the downtown location for lunch last week for my first visit. My party was seated promptly but things went downhill from there. We ordered queso to go with our chips. Our waiter brought it out just before our food was brought out. We would have liked to munch on the appetizer first. After he brought the food, he disappeared. He was very inattentive and we had to find him whenever we wanted anything. I ordered the grilled redsnapper which was okay. I think for the price you expect better service. This restaurant should take note that there are far too many good Mexican restaurants in the Houston area. Patrons won't tolerate bad service!
