MY REVIEW: Love this place. Came here with a neighbor friend after we went to see the Winter Wonderettes at Stages Theatre. We sat outside under the covered patio area. I had the sesame crusted ahi tuna with bok choy. It was fantastic. Nice portions. I asked for medium rare and it came out rare, but I was okay with that. My friend had the pork dish, which I had had before and loved, and she said it was delicious. I had a nice glass of Pinot Gris from Willamette Valley ( Oregon). We were too full for dessert. You hVe to pretty much valet pRk, but they are always nice and cheerful.

MY REVIEW: A friend and I went to see a play at Stages on Sunday and I knew this restaurant was only a couple of blocks away. I checked first to make sure they were open on Sunday evening. We got there for an early dinner at 5:30 p.m. I also knew they had covered and uncovered seating outside. The covered area is really nice and they had a big fan blowing on this particular evening even though the weather was perfect.
We each had a glass of Sauvignon Blanc for $8.50 which is pretty reasonable and it was a nice pour. I had the grilled pork chop with apple brandy chutney. It came with two fried green tomatoes and a small bowl of Mac 'n Cheese. The chop was served on top of a braised cabbage mixture with bacon and, I think, sweet potato bits (although the menu said apple). It was delicious and a wonderful beginning to the fall weather that is peaking it's head into Houston.
My friend had the grilled shrimp and asparagus and she said it was wonderful. We both had the creme burle which came with berries (strawberries, blueberries and a blackberry). They came in nice size oval dishes. It was super!
Our server was Natalia and she was the best! She made our visit most pleasant.

MY REVIEW: Friends took me here for my birthday. Had not been here in a very long time, but remember having good experiences nonetheless.
We had a lovely time. Food, service and ambiance were all excellent. We sat outside under the covered area as the weather was perfect. I had the fish tacos which were good. I got an order of 2 (versus 3) and I am glad I did as it was more than enough for me. If it would have been a dish conducive to taking the other taco home, I would have as I knew we would have dessert for my birthday.
We had the creme brûlée (yum) and a strawberry shortbread type of dessert (good, but I thought the creme brûlée was best.
Will definitely go back again. It is a good place to go before a Stages theatre performance.

MY REVIEW: Food tasted excellent. My friend ordered the pork chop (16 oz), which had delicious sides that really enhanced the taste of the chops. My shrimp tasted delicious, but the portion was very skimpy. Luckily I was able to eat some of my friend's pork chops. Also, their phone goes to a recording (twice) and they never called me back - very rude. If I had only wanted info and had not bought the Restaurant.com coupon, I would have not gone to the restaurant and would have missed the delicious food.
I was surprised that on a Sunday evening (~7:30), they only had patrons at one other table.

MY REVIEW: OMG first time here. I will be back for sure. I had the baked brie w/grilled apples over cristini's for appetizer, so delishous. They had homemade red Sangria w/strawberries. Had to have a glass. It really hit the spot. Then we split a baked goat cheese salad, unbeleavable,it's hugh. As my main course had the Southern fried chicken. Talk about confort food. Creamy pepper gravy, over mashed potatoes, with black eye peas, green beans and corn. I was so full but i knew i would want something sweet later so i got the chocolate chip bread pudding to go. it came with this really yummy vanilla bean sauce. amazing!!! I almost forgot, the band was really nice too! Not to loud, very friendly. I had never heard of Mood Indigo but i have to bring my friends here. It's such a treat!!

MY REVIEW: This is the 2nd time I have gone to The Daily Review but it will be my last. The food is great but I find the help strange. Three of us on a Tuesday night. Came because of the half off bottles of wine. I asked about it and was told by the male server that he would ask the owner about this promotion. Then the female hostess/server? (not sure of her role) asked me if I had a coupon and I replied that I had a Groupon coupon but not for wine. She started muttering about how "those coupons" cause problems, etc. Then she went and whispered to the male server and then he came over and told me that is no half price wine in January. That it stopped in December and won't be back on until February. Made us feel like we were trying to get something for nothing!!!! Why didn't she just say that the Groupon coupon could not be used in conjunction with a house promotion? I have a problem with places that issue coupons and then are reluctant for anyone to use them. A very nice meal and 2 bottles of wine........ all in all... it was fine but there are so many places in Houston to eat.... why pick one with attitudes like this.

MY REVIEW: I had read some of the recent reviews, and was not expecting too much, however I was very pleasantly surprised.
My three companions and I were warmly greeted, and offered a choice of tables. The service was excellent, and the food delicious. Two of us had a grilled shrimp dish that was delicious, and the others in our group had a salmon and a tuna entree- everyone finished off their plate to the last morsel. Then we finished with a bread pudding that was terrific!
We will be happy to return soon.

MY REVIEW: First turnoff - in order to avoid valet parking had to walk a block with smelly sewage aroma while the Valet lot stood nearly vacant (2 cars).
Second turnoff - in mid October - was that the menu opened with "Spring has Sprung" - pretty obviously "Fall has Sprung" also.
Thirdurnoff - caveat at the bottom says tables of 8 or more may not order from the lo-carb menu. From the looks of things at lunch - tables of 8 ordering anything would be more than welcome.
Fourth urnoff - whole wheat pasta dish was served undercooked - almost rigid. I sent it back and 25 minutes later, it arrived undercooked again.
Fifth turnoff - I left my email address and phone number so that I could tell this to the owner instead of posting it and, natch, never heard from her.

MY REVIEW: If you're looking for this place and coming off of Allen Parkway, here's a tip for you. Look for the Texaco on the left and turn in before it. There's no visible sign for W. Lamar heading in this direction. We went well down the street before we turned around and found it.
We decided to try dining on their covered patio. There was only one other table occupied when we arrived and we asked if we could sit at one of the larger tables away from the wall but were told that they were all reserved so we were stuck at a small table next to the wall. During the time we were there, two other people did occupy one of the larger tables and the others had no one sitting at them which didn't make us very happy.
The best we could say for our server is that she seemed disinterested.
We opted for martinis to start with but someone should tell them that they taste much better when you chill the glasses. Even our water had very few ice cubes we could use to chill them down.
The food - a shrimp appetizer followed by shrimp and tuna steak dinners were okay but certainly nothing special. This was our first - and last time here as there are many other places that provide a much better value proposition. Maybe it used to be good - but you couldn't prove it by us.

MY REVIEW: Expect to wait an hour before being served.Expect lukewarm food if it is warm at all.You should dine here often if you need to lose weight--three entrees (though the food is tasty)might equal one at any other restaurant. The prices are not in line with portion sizes.Park on the street and walk-that's what the valets do--there is NO on site parking. And that fabulous outdoor dining area?It looks like the gardener quit a year ago.We will not return.

MY REVIEW: It had been many years since my last visit to the Daily Review Cafe. For some reason it never really appealed to me I couldn't remember why, today I decided to give it another try. The menu did not really look very innovative, there was nothing that stood out and grabbed my attention. I finally decided on the Jumbo Lump Crab Cakes and my girlfriend on the Mediterranean Plate. When the entrees arrived I thought they had made a mistake, my Jumbo Lump Crab Cakes were actually a salad with two hush-puppie sized crab cakes - nothing jumbo here. The salad which was supposed to be a small green salad was the majority of the plate. Not really a problem if I had wanted a $15 salad for lunch, but I didn't. The hummus was non-descript and the tabouli was mediocre, I would rather buy the $5 tub of hummus at Costco than eat this one. I now remember why I hadn't been there in many years the menu is boring, the food is not very palatable and it is expensive. A better choice only a few blocks away is the B*ack$treet Cafe, the atmosphere is better, food excellent and menu innovative.

MY REVIEW: Had lunch there for the first time today. It will also be the last time. Service was terrible and food was worse. It took over one hour to be served our food and it was cold when we got it. There's nothing worse than a cold hamburger smothered in blue cheese. And I do mean SMOTHERED! They need to take into consideration that during week days, people only have one hour to eat lunch......not one hour to wait for food to be served. Very disappointing!!

MY REVIEW: We just visited the DRC for the first time for lunch. We enjoyed sitting outside on the back patio - one of the few in Houston that thankfully doesn't have a view of a parking lot. Nice little table with umbrellas.
The entire menu is appealing, so we had a hard time choosing our entrees, but my husband ordered the Southern fried chicken with mashed potatoes, corn, and black-eyed peas, and I had the jumbo lump crab cakes with mixed green salad. My salad was very fresh, and the balsamic dressing was delicious. It came with two smallish crab cakes that were more ball-shaped than the traditional flat shape I've usually seen - all of it was very good. My husband loved his order and had enough to bring home for dinner that night.
The service was a bit slow for a lunch spot; it took 45 minutes for our food to come out, but perhaps because this was one of the first beautiful days of the year, and the patio was filled to capacity. We'll definitely come back.

MY REVIEW: Yes, the food and service are great, and the patio has one of the best outdoor ambiances in Houston, but. . . doesn't anyone else feel really crowded when sitting at the tables inside? The tables along the back wall are so close together that you cannot even walk through, you have to shimmy. Then you feel as if you are actually eating with the people next to you. Fine for a family style BBQ restaurant -- not when I am paying around $30 an entree. You are actually closer to the people next to you than the person across from you. I could not avoid hearing every word of each conversation. What also baffles me is that the staff keeps those tables completely filled. Other tables in the restaurant can be empty, but the back tables are filled. I ate at DRC with a friend I had hoped to catch up with, but found the whole experience stressful, as it was loud and crowded and I couldn't really hear my own dining companion. I will return to the DRC, but if they offer me one of those crowded tables, I will just go somewhere else.
