Profile Description: Amerigo's Grille enjoys a reputation as one of the finest restaurants on Houston's north side. The cuisine features popular dishes from Italy as well as fresh seafood, steaks, and wild game. For more than sixteen years, Amerigo's has hosted enchanted evenings, elegant affairs, and professional functions both large and small. Amerigo’s Wine List features both spectacular vintages as well as exclusive winemakers, providing our guests with a unique dining experience unmatched in north Houston.
MY REVIEW: I was very impressed with Amerigo's for a variety of reasons. The waitstaff is very courteous and seem to know the menu back and forth. Our server was very honest with us, telling us what he really liked, and even at one point pointing my wife to a different LESS EXPENSIVE entree than the one she was originally going to get. (She absolutely loved it by the way, the "Snapper Del Amore".)
The decor is amazing and the wine list is surely the most extensive I've seen, though they could certainly use more wines by the glass. (No shiraz, and one sauvignon blanc?) The food was excellent, if a little pricey, but with the atmosphere and overall quality of the restaurant, and the food itself I can understand it. The seafood was very fresh, and the recipes were creative. We will certainly be going back soon.

MY REVIEW: We were very excited to celebrate a special birthday at Amerigo's, and had a party of 8 ready to feast at "one of Houston's best restaurants". The four appetizers were ordered on the waiter's recommendation and were underwhelming. The calamari was chewy, the crab cheesecake so-so and the avocado pancake quite good. The lobster bisque was very salty and lacked the flavor bisque often has from the sherry. The waiter also recommended the chopped salad which turned out to be a huge disappointment. It was bland and contained little bluecheese and even less hearts of palm and avocado. The Caesar salad was good if you like garlic and oil, but the long whole lettuce leaves made for a lot of work.
Half of our entrees first appeared on the tray stand soon after our salads and were sent back to some heat lamp. When the main course was delivered, it was clear that some dishes were just plated and some had been sitting and wilting for 20 minutes. There was no effort to even disguise this snafu. The pastas were average. The Linguini fra diavalo was oily and not spicy, although the shellfish was plentiful and the shrimp were large. The Penne Nina good and the linguini with lobster rich and creamy. None of the dishes were exceptional or worthy of the inflated prices. Sauces were average and salty, and way too oily.
We hoped that desserts would save this mediocre dining experience, but unfortunately some followed suit. The apple tart was microwaved until the pastry was doughy and tough. A pop-tart would have tasted better. The chocolate mousse was bland but the fruit was fresh.
I think that the overall atmosphere was festive and the restaurant has attractive art on the walls. The bathrooms are clean and spacious. It was the indifference of the hostess and manager, and the feeling of being rushed one minute and ignored the next, that really got to me. We spent hundreds of dollars on the dinner and received very little friendliness from the employees from beginning to end. Any restaurant has its off nights but I am not willing to give Amerigo's another shot.

MY REVIEW: Wow, this place was a little hard to find, but worth the hunt. The plaque on the wall said the Chef was one of the top Chefs in Houston, they were right. The NY Stip was excellent and the dessert was pure decadence. The setting is very romantic and you could actually have a conversation without yelling at each other.
If you have not been to Amerigo's Grille you are missing the best kept secret in the Woodlands area.

MY REVIEW: Strong Points: nice setting & ambiance, helpful & smiling hostesses, clean restorooms, extremely flavorful & balanced red pepper soup; large shrimp; managers always visible & active; beautiful presentation
Weak Points: Sirloin steak lacked flavor & was over cooked; no one waited to see if the steak was prepared right; shrimp (Gambini) sauces were too delicate & had no depth; zuchinni appetizer was $10- it was 3 bias cut slices of fried zuchinni; waitress did not clean our table off- crumbs everywhere; prices did not match website; overinflated prices for unimpressive food

MY REVIEW: Indeed one of the best restaurants in The Woodlands, with a very friendly staff and management. For those that are not locals, it could be a bit difficult to find, but well worth the effort. Dark without being foreboding, and the food is excellently prepared. The small (cozy) wine cellar, fairly recently added on, has a surprisingly good selection of wines for those aficionados, although the markup per bottle is higher than one might expect.
One of my regular stops (in addition to a dear friend) when I come into The Woodlands - I recommend you make it one of yours.

MY REVIEW: OK I have heard, read RAVE reviews, but just never went. Some friends of ours were going and told us to tag along. Our friends (he being a real Chef and she being his helper) told us that this is the best place in the entire Woodlands area to eat. I totally agree!
I had the tuna carpaccio to start (along with our guests)...this was the thickest slices I have ever had in my entire life! It was sooooo tasty, better than some sushi I have had! My husband had the lobster ravoli to start. This was just the best! The lobster was plentful and not hidden by the other ingredience in the ravoli.
For dinner I had the baby trout, there was not anything "baby" about this baby! It was a little large for me, but it was so light and the preperation was just fantastic. Not to over spiced, just the right amount to let the flavor of the trout come alive! My husband had the veal medalions and he just savored every flavor. The sauce could have been cut back a bit, but it was really hard for him not to lick his plate!
Our guests had the sauteed crab claws (not as good as L0**s off of Rayford) and lobster bisque. The bisque is wonderful as it is made with a stock and not a cream base. There is cream in it, but having the stock as a base keeps it from being to rich. There was plenty of lobster floating in the bisque for everyone to savor.
Watistaff is knoweldgable and friendly without being overbearing. One of the most professional around. The decor is hard to tell as the lighting is low but not so bad as you feel if you are in the dark. Such a great experience, I cannot wait to go again!

MY REVIEW: Fabulous. Most inventive menu and the best service in The Woodlands area. The attention to our dining and the service we received was on par with T*ony's and Cafe A*nnie.
J*aspers, T*ommy Bahama*s and all the other can't hold a candle to this established place.
Thank you for an incredible evening.

MY REVIEW: I must have to admit I was a bit disapointed with our evening after reading the great reviews. I ordered the lobster claw starter and it tasted freezer burnt. I had rack of lamb and it was nice but very fatty and the asparagus that was served with it was as close to raw as you get.
Our waiter was very patient and he did a great job but I was a bit surprised that after my comment on the lobster claws he didn't adress my concerns.
Wiil I go back....probably not.

MY REVIEW: Wow-Amerigos is better than ever. The service was top-notch, the food was delicious ( try the Snapper Del Amore!), and the ambiance perfect for my romantic dinner. Desserts are inventive, and skillfully displayed and made. A great and always evolving wine list. The off-menu wild boar was fantastic, and the tomato and mozzerela the waiter recommeded the perfect appetizer.
If you've dined at Amerigos a while ago, come back and see the improvements-none of the new Woodlands restaurants can touch them for quality, atmosphere, and consistently great food.

MY REVIEW: This was my second visit to Amerigo's and was more impressed than the first. The service was excellent and the whole staff was friendly and helpful. Quiet elegance best describes this restaurant. Soft lights, good art and excellent food. My wife was so impressed she insisted that we come back for our anniversary.
I read the other reviews on Amerigo's and all I can say is the people who complained must be use to eating at M*cDonalds, they certainly don't have any taste.

MY REVIEW: Even though their not child friendly the server made us feel comfortable with our 5 year old. The wine list has improved with affordable selections. Although pricey the portions are ample. We will return without our child and make it a special occassion.

MY REVIEW: I have been several times since I moved here from California-- a great restaurant. It is italian, but tons of fish, seafood, and prime cuts. I had a wild boar chop that was out of this world. No room for dessert, but they all looked very yummy. Service was friendly and smooth, knowledgeable and helpful too. Piano lounge upstairs was lovely, very good "piano man". One note though is that they did not have high chairs or boosters when I came with my family. I can overlook that though, because it's worth getting a sitter to dine here! I reccommend this restaurant to anyone who doesn't mind paying for quality food, service, and atmosphere.

MY REVIEW: With all the newer restaurants in the woodlands, I think the service and food are better and always reliable. Nice upscale atmosphere, some great wines and a piano bar that is very enjoyable but a little dim. The dinner menu is awesome, but if you want lasagna or pizza this isn't the place. Mostly shellfish, fish, and various fine meat cuts like boar and veal chop, venison, lamb, steaks. Tons of desserts to choose from. Service is smart and friendly. Good inexpensive lunch menu and a pretty patio. The location is a little hidden, but I'm glad I found it!
Definitely reccommend for a special occasion or a nice night out.

MY REVIEW: I've eaten all over the world, from Thailand, to Australia, to Zurich and Paris and I have to say that Amerigos is the absolute best food I've ever flapped a lip on.
The Wild Boar (an off item, seasonal item) was grilled to perfection, was thick and juicy and had a wonderful smoky flavor.
A bit on the expensive side, but that's what to expect from a restaurant of this quality. Definately not an every day (or even an every week) restaurant for the average Joe, it's a great place to take someone to impress!

MY REVIEW: I live in the woodlands area and consider Amerigo's a favorite for entertaining my business clients and my family. An energized happy hour (with a complimentary buffet-style appetizer that varies from day to day) seems to attract a regular group of local professionals. Great belinis and a nice selection of finer spirits and wine. Lunch is more casual and moderately priced. The food is fresh and daily specials tempt with pasta, chicken and fish dishes. The lobster bisque is creamy and delicious, with a generous mound of lobster meat hiding at the bottom of the bowl! The grilled duck breast appetizer with black currant sauce (a special) is sweet, savory and perfectly grilled.
As far as dinner entrees, I love the cappelini crusted snapper and salmon filet. Excellent prime steaks, and tender veal chop. Most dishes are served with pasta, potatos, or vegetables and make the huge portions even harder to finish. Dessert requires a second trip!-- A huge tempting selection brought on a beautiful tray --excellent creme brule and of course, tiramisu.
The service is professional, knowledgeable and accommodating when it comes to the menu and wine list. Overall, staff is friendly and attentive but not invasive. Thursday-Saturday evenings the upstairs piano bar is a cozy little place to have your after dinner drinks and listen to lively and classic tunes. When the weather is cooler the lanscaped patio is absolutely charming with large umbrellas for the daytime sun and tiki-torches to light the night.
I think Amerigo's is a real treasure-- especially with the real lack of finer restaurants in this area. I will definitely be a patron for a long time to come, and reccommend this restaurant to anyone.

MY REVIEW: Fine dininig in a casual atmosphere, real paintings on the wall that definitely enhance the whole experience. From the service to the food everything is impeccable. My visit was on a thursday night and me and my wife as apetizers had the incredible juicy portabello mushroom and the avocado pankake topped with crabmeat. The entrees are out of this world the seared sea bass and the veal nance made our visit worthwhile every single penny. The wine list has only Italian and Californian wines but "what a selection" the price range for wine varies from $38 to over $300 per bottle. The wait staff is very professional reserved and knowledgable. One of the finest restaurants in Houston and definitely the best one in the northern part of town.
Highly recomanded for every occasion.
