It’s Baby Gulf Red Snapper Season at Pico’s Mex-Mex Restaurant
Chef/owner Arnaldo Richards is now serving fresh, whole, head-on, baby Gulf red snapper.
“For just a few months each year, my fish purveyor is able to bring me whole, baby red snapper. And they are delicious prepared a la Veracruzana, Tikin Xik or Mojo de Ajo.” Supplies are limited. Please call for availability.
Richards prepares the fish: A la Veracruzana, a sauce made of olive oil, onions, garlic and peppers, Tikin Xik, which is seasoned with achiote, and is charcoal-broiled in banana leaves, Al Mojo de Ajo, sautéed in garlic oil and sprinkled with garlic chips |
MY REVIEW: The fact that so many people have been going to Pico's Restaurant on a regular basis for 20 years or more says it all. And to live in the same neighborhood, as we do, is a stroke of good luck. Having tried almost all of the items on the menu, we can truly say that Everything is tasty, very well prepared, and nicely presented. And nobody makes better Margaritas. Nobody. If you are wondering if you should visit them, don't waste any more time. Life's short. Go to Pico's today.

MY REVIEW: We waited too long to visit Pico's. It was excellent. The calamari appetizer was fabulous. The conchinita pibil was so good I was happy to have leftovers to bring home. The chipotle filet was also really good. Oh, and the margarita's were seriously some of the best we've ever had. When you don't want just the usual tex-mex this is a great place to go.

MY REVIEW: I went on a Friday night and the place was packed! Good service and great food. Their fajitas are very good and they have this appetizer dish called "Mariscada a la Mexicana"; shrimp, calamari, crawfish tails, & red snapper. If you like seafood, you should love this!
Oh and the bartenders really know how to make a good margarita too!

MY REVIEW: I've eaten at many Mexican restaurants since I moved here in 1991. Pico's is the BEST. My favorite is the Mancha Manteles. It's a Mexican tzimmes; sweet potato, fruits and tender meats, in an amazing mole sauce. I've never tasted anything like this.
Their fajitas are also great, and tres leches, yum. This place is a treat!

MY REVIEW: I've been going to Pico's since 1984 and I have to have a Pico's fix at least every couple of weeks. I'm addicted to the Mr. Blue margarita. Their chips and salsas are wonderful (they vary in spiciness, depending on the spiciness of the peppers). My favorite dishes are the ceviche, the chiles rellenos (I used to ask for them all the time when they weren't on the menu, so maybe they finally got the hint - now I'm asking for tamales), the enchiladas texmex, and the soft-shelled crabs. Sunday brunch features migas (crisp-fried shreds of tortillas with scrambled eggs - heavenly!) and bottomless champagne. Wait staff is friendly and attentive (Jose Luis is the best waiter in Houston!), the musicians are entertaining and not overly loud, and, like another reviewer said, you are never rushed out. Just one of Houston's best!

MY REVIEW: Pico's is the best in Houston - but not one review has mentioned my family's all time favorite - Caldo Talpeno. This soup is super! Of course, there are the aforementioned Chile en Nogado, Enchiladas Suizas and, yes, even the nachos. I personally love the spinach quesadillas and the soft shell crabs. Pico's also has the best margaritas in town. If you don't know Pico's, you don't know Mexican food!

MY REVIEW: We have been going to Pico's for at least 15 years. We have also vacationed numerous times in Mexico. Pico's is by far our best loved restaurant. Some of the dishes we like are soft shell crab, snapper with garlic, mancha manteles, steak tampiqueno, chicken burritos with cream sauce, Huevos Rancheros, etc., etc. They are great. The service is wonderful and they never rush their customers. What more could you want?

MY REVIEW: Pico's catered an informal wedding reception I held recently in my backyard. We had chicken and beef fajitas and spinach quesdilla's with all the fixings and food was fantastic! Servers and bartenders were friendly, professional and efficient. Thanks for making my party a great success! Will definitely call on you again.

MY REVIEW: Don't know really know my name but I've been eating here for over 20 years. Always for girls nights out and when my Austin family hits town we always have one meal here. My favorite entree the past 5-6 years is the chiles en nogada. Love that stuff with a cevice compechano (sp?) appetizer. Nachos compuestos are my test, only beans and cheese but Pico's and L*opez make them more than just beansandcheese. We like that someone from the family is always there. It's really fun when they're celebrating a family birthday at a table - there's a huge cake in the bar that everyone's invited to share.

MY REVIEW: Picos is one of our favorite Mexican Restaurants. The staff is very friendly, and the dishes our great. My favorite dishes are the chile con queso and the tex mex enchiladas. I would reccomend this to anyone.

MY REVIEW: Always shown to a table fast. I have had severall dishes here and they were all excellent. My favorites are the enchilladas suizas (tomatillo sauce and white cheese over chicken) and the quesadillas. The quesadillas are the BEST I have ever had, alot more to them than cheese !!! My 18 yr-old loves the grilled snapper dishes, shrimp and lobster also. My ultra picky eater hasn't ever had a complaint, trust me that is amazing. Great ambiance and staff. Entrees are $2-$4 or so more than average but well worth it. They have wonderfull margaritas of any variety imaginable. The place is immaculate and well decorated.

MY REVIEW: decent service. strange flavor to all the dishes. You either love it or don't. Even the chips and salsas tasted funny/different. not to my taste but the other family members love it. Deserts, ok but small portions.

MY REVIEW: Truly excellent food - we had the ceviche and spinach enchilladas this visit. The salas are very fresh and delicious, too. Service was "snooty" but efficient. Lovely decor and very clean. Overall, a great place to dine and one of the top Mexican restaurants in Houston, by far!

MY REVIEW: literally...everybody knows our name here. my family has been going here since we moved to houston in 1993. i was 7. i am now 19, with my first baby, and the staff there loves him, too. it is my favorite mexican restaurant, by far. most of the time, the chips taste like they've been sitting out for awhile, but sometimes they'll be hot and fresh just to surprise you. :) we love the beef fajitas, it's what we almost always get whenever we go there. the shrimp appetizer in the skillet with the bread and oils is soooo good!

MY REVIEW: The chile en nogada rocks. We ate here a week ago and in later conversation found another couple who haven't been to Pico's yet. What's up with this? Not complaining, it's a great reason for another Happy Hour for the newbies. Great service, great margs, great food.

MY REVIEW: I like everything about Pico's. The foods are great. The drinks are even better. The service is good.
My only problen is that the tables (Katy Fry. location) are too small. It is uncomfortable for 4 people to sit at one of their too small tables. For a couple, they are fine but not for 4 people. It's a shame because everything else there is so good.

MY REVIEW: For 25 years we've been eating here at all hours: family dinner the night before the grandbaby was due, bloody mary Sunday breakfast when the relatives were ready to leave, 4pm beat-the-crowd dinners... one or more of the Richards family is always there and everybody's happy. The stuffed chile dish mentioned below is Pico's Chile En Nogada. Love that stuff and learned 2 decades ago to pass all others and just go to Pico's when the craving hits.

MY REVIEW: Wow, just went here with friends and can't believe I hadn't found it sooner. The salsa is great, ceviche is excellent. I ordered the stuffed chile dish- can't remember the name, but it's poblanos stuffed with pork, raisins, nuts, olives and other stuff in a sweet cream sauce. Sounds wierd, absolutely amazing. Good heat. I'm not one for green olives usually, but trust me, it worked. Why hasn't anyone else on here mentioned this? I also tried bites of the snapper (fried with a bit of garlic on top)- also lovely, and the snapper veracruz style- very good but not as good as the others. I'll be back, even if I do have to go outside the loop....

MY REVIEW: This is the best Mexican food in Houston. Soft shell crab are outstanding when they are in season. Also love the nachos and the shrimp dishes. Top shelf margaritas are excellent. Service is attentive. Kid friendly too.
One complaint, table tops are a little small and get crowded with chips, drinks, and entrees.

MY REVIEW: Been coming here for over 15 years. This is one of those restaurants that will never disappoint. The service is generally top notch -- even on busy nights (which is every night from Wednesday onwards). The chips and salsa just keep on coming. My favorite meal is "chicken quesadillas". They're not on the menu, so ask for them. And either plan to share or be very hungry -- they will fill you up. Do not leave without trying the "Tres Leches".
Great kids menu, too. Only bad point is that it can be a long wait on Friday and Saturday nights.

MY REVIEW: I was pleasantly suprised with this place. My boyfreind suggested we order a nacho plate for appetizer and I was reluctant at first--usually, when I go to a restaurant and order nachos they are all chips and barely any toppings---well, with these I couldn't even see the chips!!! Yes, they were covered in fajita meat, beans, cheese, etc...Awesome! The beef fajitas I ordered were good--I cannot say they are the best I have had since my faves are over at L*upe Tortillas (love the marinade). Good service (went for lunch so don't know about dinner) and overall good experience.

MY REVIEW: The original Pico's on Bellaire is one of my favorite Houston restaurants. I always take out-of-town guests there to get them authentic Mexican cuisine. The shrimp relleno appetizer is one of my personal favorites, although you will definitely need a breath mint afterward (garlic!!!). The cochinita pibil and enchilada mariscos are two of my favorite entrees, but there are several others that are excellent also. I go twice a week when the soft shelled crabs are in season. The waitstaff is always prompt and courteous. I have never had a complaint with Pico's and highly recommend them to anyone who wants a great Mexican food meal at a reasonable price.

MY REVIEW: Wow, we've eaten at the original Pico's so manay times over 20 years that I was shocked to finally receive poor service and mediocre food. I usually eat the cochinita pibil, and last night it was discolored as though it had been sitting out for a long time and didn't have the same incredible taste. And the waiter was a little slow to appear, then did ok until it was time to clean up and present the bill, at which point he disappeared for a full 15 minutes. I finally gave my credit card to the busboy. When we left, no one had touched the table. Maybe it was just the waiter, or maybe their attention is waning.

MY REVIEW: We have been dining at Pico's since they first opened on Bellaire Boulevard. And we will continue to go back on a regular basis for as long as they are there. The chips, salsas, and Margarita Grandes are a great way to start a meal. We would recommend everything on the lunch menu, plus the soups and appetizers. The specials are always good. Try the soft-shell crabs. Tres leches and Pico's very good coffee make a nice finish to the meal. We like to take guests to Pico's. They are always delighted with the food, drinks, and friendly service. Highly recommended.
