MY REVIEW: came in for lunch. Order taker too busy talking to associates. Ordered cheesesteak, waited too long for crusty bread and dried steak. It's like they had it under a heat lamp. Will go to L*enny's instead.

MY REVIEW: This is a great hole-n-the wall kind of place. The first time I went in was during lunch time in the middle of the week. The food came out fast and the guy behind the counter come to find out was the owner of the place. I don't know if he's under staffed or really enjoys his business, but seemed to be a great guy. The food was fast, hot, and good going down. This past time was during lunch on Sunday, I was expecting a Sunday lunch crowd similar to my previous experience but when I walked in there was a girl behind the bar area working, a completely different place from where I had ordered before. There wasn't hardly as many people there and the girl behind the bar was polite. After talking to her a minute she suggested a side of the Hot Peppers, the best philly I've had in Texas.

MY REVIEW: Girl working behind the counter wrote our order on a pad and couldn't wait to get back to Facebooking on her laptop. We filled out drinks and sat down, and it was at least TEN MINUTES before the cook came out from the kitchen and manually picked up our order and began to cook it. The girl sat on the internet the whole time and made no effort to take the order to the kitchen. She had NO other customers. Terrible and insulting service. Then we find out we can't have onion rings even though we paid for them and had to settle for (cheaper) fries. Bad service and the food wasn't even that great, very average. Not going back.

MY REVIEW: First and last time I go there. Ordered a philly to go and was highly disappointed when I opened up the wrapping. Smushed up piece of bread with flavorless meat and a small hard piece of cheese that seemed to have dried on the bread. No onions or anything. Paid too much money for that shameful mess. Would have returned it had it not been I was in a hurry and had already driven away.

MY REVIEW: I have always liked Jake's for the quality of their product but I'm now thinking that there has to be a better Philly cheese steak option in Houston. It just isn't that remarkable. Modest amount of meat, modest amount of cheese and not much flavor and the cost, right around $10...seems high for what they sell so it's not much of a bargain.
Sorry to say it but I think we have better options.

MY REVIEW: The only reason I have ever wanted to return to the city of my birth (Philadelphia, duh!) was for the cheesesteaks and hoagies. I have lived and travelled throughout the United States and could never find a place that truly caught the essence of a true Philly cheesesteak or hoagie. Until I found Jake's here in Houston that is. At all of the other places that I have tried, there was always something that was anywhere from slightly off to totally wrong. Jake's nails it. My dad likes Jake's so much that whenever he visits, we have to stop in and get extra that he can take back home. (Dad used to schedule layovers in Philly when he travelled so he could pick up hoagies to take home with him.) As a bonus, they have real deli pickles that remind me of the pickle barrel pickles I used to get as a kid.
In a sense of full disclosure, there have been times that I have tried some of the other sandwiches that are available at Jake's and have been disappointed. However, if I stick with the traditional cheesesteaks and hoagies, I have never been disappointed.

MY REVIEW: I cut my teeth on Philly cheesesteaks at the Jersey shore and since being in Texas, have looked for something even close to the great, real thing! Jake's is pretty good; it's the best Philly cheesesteak I've found west of the Mississippi! Bread was good, meat was good, but skimpy with the provolone -- just one slice, which didn't give much cheesy taste or good goo. We did wander in during one of their HUGE football Sundays, though, towards the end of the game: maybe they were running short on cheese?
We'll definitely go again (but may get takeout and melt more provolone on it if necessary).

MY REVIEW: My husband and I have visited st least once a month and also have taken friends or family visting to try and we all love Jakes. Cheesesteaks are always enjoyed and the bread they use is perfect! Also I am a fan of their fries. Dont listen to anyone who has the name "Celtic" as their username for advice on anything good!

MY REVIEW: I moved down to Corpus Christi from Philly 14 years ago, went up to Houston on 09/05/09 to see the Phillies play the Astros. Drove past Jakes and had to stop in for a try. This is the first cheese steak I had in Texas that is a real Philly cheese steak. Next time in Houston, I'll be sure to stop again.

MY REVIEW: The absolute worst Philly Cheesesteak sandwhich I belive that I have ever had.
I have had literally hundreds in my lifetime including in Philadelphia and this was maybe the worst. Bread had a strange unpleasant aftertaste Meat was bland Onions were bland (go figure) Cheese not melted Overall the cheesesteak sandwhich was a Flavorless Greasy mess.
I will never go back!!

MY REVIEW: this is for sure one of my favorite places to eat. I work not far from Jakes on Chimney Rock in the Galleria. I call ahead to pick up the tastiest Philly Steak Sandwich with the works (get mine w/no cheese) . Steak cooked just right, perfect seasoning and the bread is just right. The mushrooms and green peppers are a meal in itself! the owner and his son are really nice too

MY REVIEW: Good sandwich with the right kind of bread. Will be a repeat customer. Now my wife can have a taste of home just minutes from the house.

MY REVIEW: My first visit. Ordered a large cheese steak with "fresh cut fries."
When I got the sandwich- bread was overly crispy, cheese was not melted on the bread or meat. Meat was way overcooked and dry. I combined the meat into one side of the sandwich. Finally tasted some of the meat. left whole other half of fried bread. French fries were under cooked and soggy. Not worth $11 I paid. Never going back!

MY REVIEW: Being from the Philadelphia area I am a cheesesteak fanatic. For years I've searched Houston looking for a good honest Philly style cheesesteak. Mainly all I'd found is a bunch of garbage, until I found Jake's. The cheesesteaks there are right on. Everything about them is perfect, including the price. Even though it's a half hour drive from where I live I try to go there atleast once a week to get my cheesesteak fix.
Jake's has a put a big smile of the face of this Philly native. The only way their food could be more perfect is if they could stock Yuengling beer.

MY REVIEW: Unbelievable, the cheese steak is far above Houston culture. A restaurant with sandwiches this good truly belongs in Philly, I gladly drive across town to come here. Great bread, outstanding meat, no other place in Houston can touch this. Superb, truly superb. 5 stars from Rex Taster!
