MY REVIEW: I came by on a Saturday afternoon craving a Chopped Beef Baked Potato - it wasn't exactly what I expected. I ordered it "loaded" and everything except the beef was on the side. Other places typically put the butter and sour cream at the bottom and top it off with meat and sauce. The beef was lean and yummy, and it tasted OK, but the butter and cheese didn't quite melt. Even the sauce came in a warm bottle. It wasn't bad, but I like it put together for me. I will try Baker's again, though.

MY REVIEW: 3 of us went with absolutely no idea how this place would be. B4UE was really helpful, so I thought I'd repay the favor: Between the 3 of us, we had ribs, brisket, turkey, and the jalapeno sausage. Not a single negative about the meat or the service. The meat didn't have one bad bite in any of it. The stuffed potato was great too. The brisket was nice and moist - without being fatty.
SINCE it's a review, the only negative we could find was the potato salad was not really unflavorful. Not bad, just no flavor whatsoever. The jalapeno's fixed that. :) Strongly recommend you check this place out.

MY REVIEW: I have been on rodeo cook-off teams and have tried lots of bbq around Houston and Texas. Folks, this place has some of the best brisket I have tasted. Not once have I gotten "bad" brisket from Bakers. This is one of the more consistent places I have been. The brisket has never been dry and has a deep smokey flavor that most places just can't get in their brisket. I don't care much for the sauce but the brisket doesn't need it. I can't speak for any other item on the menu cause I go right for the brisket. Definately in my top five for brisket in the Houston area.

MY REVIEW: People writing negative reviews have failed to notice that the sign is a PIG (uh...are you really qualified to write a review because of this oversight???). Go for the pulled pork, people. I know...this is Texas and bbq is supposed to be beef, but trust me, it's worth the shame of ordering pork bbq.

MY REVIEW: It is my belief that normally one should give restaurants more than one chance. However in Houston that isn't always so easy. Too many really good places to eat.
I picked up some ribs and a sliced beef sandwich to go. It was after the lunch crowd. The sandwich was very good and the ribs passable. I will give them another shot during peak hours when the food should be at its best.

MY REVIEW: I just moved to the sw side of town. I read the reviews and decided to visit since all reviews were fantastic. Not so, the 2 meat plate i ordered was awful, edible, but not mouthwatering. The ribs were dry and the mashed potatoes were old.

MY REVIEW: This is the very best Bar-B-Que in Houston and we should know......we eat BBQ a lot! The ribs are so lean and so tender they almost melt in your mouth. The sliced beef and sausage were just as good. The beans were seasoned exactly right and the potato salad was a little different in a very good way. We will definitely visit BAKER'S RIBS again very soon.

MY REVIEW: Good points: Bakers Ribs is one of my favorite BBQ places in Houston. I get Chopped Beef sandwich or the baked potato w/chopped beef and am never disappointed. I'm also rather fond of the BBQ sauce too. While it isn't exactly "service with a smile", they do have peanuts to chomp on while waiting to order. Until the BBQ cook-off at the Houston Rodeo comes around again, this is as close to Perfect BBQ as you can get.
Weak points: OK, the potato salad can be a bit bland, and the cobbler could use a little "something" more (sugar?). Haven’t tried any other sides, but once I taste their BBQ, I usually forget to eat sides anyways.
Overall terrific BBQ. A great way to get a cheap hand carwash next door while you eat too!

MY REVIEW: Baker's catered for 70 people while our company was settling in to our new location - ON A SUNDAY!! They're not even open on Sunday. Russell took care of everything for us anyway & we genuinely appreciate it. I'm sure he's gained some new customers from this catering job!
Everyone was pleased! The brisket was fork tender, the chicken breast moist & several comments on the sausage. The herb dill potato salad is GREAT!!! This had me a little concerned, because a lot of folks want a mustard potato salad, but it FLEW - I should've gotten more of it. The deserts were so fresh!! YUM!!!
We were VERY PLEASED & everyone working wanted to know where the food came from. I would VERY HIGHLY RCOMMEND BAKER'S RIBS for GREAT BBQ!

MY REVIEW: I've been reading reviews on this site for a couple years before going out for lunch, but this is the first time I'm posting. I moved to Texas 3 years ago and have been on a mission to find the best bbq in the state (or at least south Texas for now). I went to this restaurant before reading the reviews and I'm glad I did. The meat was fantastic! I took a bite into the ribs and "oh my gosh" came to mind. Great flavor and tender. Next the was the brisket. I easily cut it with my plastic fork. Tender but not mushy. Also very tasty. Next the sausage. Cooked great. Good flavor but I may try their spicier one next time. Now the sauce. Great bbq doesn't need sauce (IMHO) but a great sauce is always welcome. This was a good sauce. Not my favorite but not bad either. I think that comes down to personal preference. I personally liked the potato salad, but then again I prefer it without mustard, so I'd guess that's the reason. All in all it was a great lunch and I will be going back.

MY REVIEW: I can't believe all the negative comments I'm reading on this place. Bakers Ribs is 100% the best BBQ in Houston...I know, I know...Houstonians are supposed to say G*oode Co, O*tto's or P*appa's is the best...this is simply not true. The ribs are great...the brisket, lean and tender...the chopped beef sandwich is hands-down the best in Texas. Look, my job has me traveling all over Texas all the time and I love BBQ. Every place I go...and I am not kidding, I've been to hundreds of BBQ joints, no one can beat Bakers Ribs. I'm not talking about side dishes, I'm not talking about service, I AM TALKING ABOUT MEAT! I don't know if it's their pit or what. But it's the best, period! Look, everyone hires a bad employee every now and then. Guess what? It doesn’t change the way the meat tastes! Everyone can customize their beans or potato salad with more spices and fat to make it taste better. However, cooking good BBQ is an art-form and Bakers Ribs should be considered the Monet of BBQ!

MY REVIEW: My husband and I have always enjoyed the BBQ but we will not be eating here again. I wanted to order to go but the counter locations had been changed and I could not tell where I was supposed to place my order so I asked the lady behind the counter. I did not hear her clearly but thought she said "right there" so I stood where I was. She turned her back on me and did nothing. One of the other customers finally asked her why she wasn't taking my order. She said I had been told I was in the wrong place and had not moved therefore no service. The food is not worth the rude service.

MY REVIEW: I was shocked to red some of the reviews here. I stopped in just to get som lean sliced beef to take home. This turned out to be the best slice smoked beef I've ever eaten. Being a native Houstonian, I've been to most BBQ places in Houston and this was hands down THE best! The ambiance is nice and country and they were extremely nice and polite. I would highly recommend Bakers Ribs for the beef!

MY REVIEW: This place has definitely seen better days. The last two times I have eaten here, the brisket was extremely dry and bland. The side items are average, at best, The potato salad left a lot to be desired. It's funny. L*uther's Barbecue is much better than it used to be and Bakers used to be good, however, they are consistently going downhill. They need to make some changes on some of their recipes. The highlight of my last two visits was the iced tea !! What does that tell you ??

MY REVIEW: This BBQ joint needs improvement. When I approached the front door a couple of guys were sitting outside eating and I asked "is it good?" Their response was "it's OK" which should have alerted me.
I ordered a chopped BBQ sandwich dinner as did the guy in front of me but they blundered his order with sliced but he accepted it. After I paid for the meal it sat there on the counter while the lady behind me got hers. I was puzzled trying to determine if I was behind her or not.
I went to the table and wondered where the BBQ sauce was. I looked around and everyone seem to have some except me. I had to go back to the counter and ASK for BBQ sauce in a BBQ PLACE. Turns out that they are supposed to put the sauce bottle on your tray when you pay. The patato salid tasted like instant potatoes but the cold slaw was OK as was the Dr. Pepper.
Actually, improvement is not the word - having to ask for BBQ sauce in a BBQ joint is totally unacceptable. Go figure.

MY REVIEW: I have eaten at a number of BBQ places in Houston, (O*tto's, P*appas, L*uling City, L*uthers, Old H*ickory Inn, etc.)and this place as the best brisket around. Why? First they have the best beef. Always a good cut, not a bunch of fat or funky pieces. Second, they have an excellent smoker so you get a good smokey taste with the meat literally falling apart with tenderness. The sauce is excellent and seved in a pre-heated squeeze bottle. None of the other BBQ places have meat as tender with as much true smokey flavor. They are a bit limited on side dishes especially dessert, but the potato salad is good and the beans spicy.

MY REVIEW: I can't seem to get enough of their barbeque. The baked potatoes are large and if stuffed are more than a meal. Try their ribs if you desire something finger lickin good. Oh yeah, there is a hand car wash next door that will expertly wash your car while you dine in.

MY REVIEW: Has been my favorite "sleeper" BBQ restaurant. The sliced beef is so tender and soft... Best sandwiches in Houston. Inexpensive. Order the sandwich plate, with tomatoes & green onion (I think), and potato salad. I don't remember eating any desserts there. Pretty basic ambiance. Check it out.

MY REVIEW: My girlfriend and I visted this place on 8-19-03. I am always looking for the best BBQ and am willing to try pretty much any place. I'll go in shacks, modern buildings, and anything in between as long as the food is good. This place was voted one of the 50 best BBQ joints in Texas Monthly (I don't know when, but I bet it was a while ago) and quite frankly, I don't think that it even belongs on the same page as some of the other places TM lists.
I walked into this place expecting to eat my favorite meal (brisket, ribs, 2 sides of potato salad) with a smile on my face. I didn't. First of all, when I asked for brisket, the order taker rudely corrected me by saying, "You mean 'Sawed Beef'?" Umm, no. Don't kid yourself lady. It isn't good enough to have its own name and barely makes it into the "brisket" catagory, but more on that later. The fact that my girlfriend isn't white also seemed to put a frown on her face. This is a poor way to start a meal. I then asked for ribs and looked over at the potato salad. From the looks of it, I could tell that I wasn't having two, so I ordered one and chose peach cobbler as my second side. We found our seat and started to eat. I then noticed something about my 'Sawed Beef.' Every slice was over 1/2 an inch thick and the red tinge around the edges was hardly visible, a clear sign this meat was poorly cut and the cooking rushed .... or not even smoked at all. It was so mediocre I wanted to tear down the sign outside with the pitch, "...voted one the fifty best of 'Texas Monthly'!" for falsely advertising such disgraceful meat. I can't even find any references to it on Texas Monthly's website, so when and if it was voted on to the list is anyone's guess. If you figure it out, e-mail me.
Now on to the ribs. This place has its followers when it comes to ribs. I am not one of them. Fernbuck described them correctly, "...the Ribs were full of fat and very greasy with hardly any meat." What he didn't mention is that the bone is about one inch long making what little meat is on there very tough to get to and when you do get to it, its far to crispy to enjoy eating. I ate one out of the four and then pitied the poor animal that died giving its life for such a shabby pile of ribs.
Then I moved on to one of my favorite parts of a BBQ meal, the potato salad. I said that normally I order two (called a Dolly Parton is some areas), but judging from the looks of the stuff here I opted for one. I made a wise decision. This is either some of the worst potato salad I have ever had or my taste buds have grown complacent to the tangy creamy mustard favored dishes you can find at Wil*liam's Smokehouse and Ca*rl's Barbeque. I am sure it is the former. I swear, the taste was almost bitter. It was unforgivable.
Now, the peach cobbler that served as a stand-in side dish to my usual plate was the only thing left on my plate I had yet to try. While not terrible, it wasn't good. It wasn't even mediocre. It was bland and cold to boot. Perhaps I need to go again, but the only way I would is if I could slap the girl at the counter, smoke the food myself, and bring in potato salad from somewhere else, but then what would be the point? It would still cost 10 bucks if I ordered a drink and chances are the syrup to water ratio would be wrong again. Forget it Baker's Ribs, you suck.

MY REVIEW: The Bar-B-Q here is pretty bad. For being called Baker's Ribs, the Ribs were full of fat and very greasy with hardly any meat. I don't remember this place being so bad before they changed ownership.
