MY REVIEW: dollar for dollar best deal in town...Gumbo is very good always gave 2 servings, I always get a bakers dozen oysters on the half shell and every time I go I get something different, NEVER had a bad meal there. I like the seafood platter best . Frog legs are great too.

Everyone who writes bad reviews are Like people who get gold on a silver platter and still complain.......

I go there every time I get a chance and will continue. Never had to ask for refills on ice tea, they kept my glass full and were very attenitive.

Yes sometimes they are very busy and you have to wait. But ask yourself this. Why are they busy? Must be the have great food and customers prefer this place to others and keep comming back just as I will..

Find a better deal and value else where and I may try it, But I bet I keep comming back to this place.

MY REVIEW: This place is not for the faint-hearted. It's chaotic and beyond loud. The patrons are always festive. Captain Tom's may be located on the freeway, but make no mistake, this is a neighborhood joint. And the neighborhood is largely Hispanic. They enjoy themselves, raw oysters, cold beer, hearty gumbo and fried seafood.

The servers and cooks know what they are doing. Food and service are top-notch. Fried shrimp are as fresh as they are large. Raw oysters are the plumpest I have found in Houston this year. Gumbo and stuffed jalapenos are not to be missed.

East Houston may just have the best little seafood house in Texas!

MY REVIEW: I have been eating at this restaurant for almost 20 years now. It is our families favorite place to eat. You always know what you're going to get. No fancy pretenses here, just good food/drinks, noisy, crowded, a lot of fun and great service.

MY REVIEW: My husband and I love the food. Everything is great, including the oysters. Wow, they are fresh It's a small place, but well worth paying a visit. The staff is very kind and the kitchen is clean. I saw for myself. The gumbo is to die for. The entire menu is resonably price; not expensive at all. This is a t-shirt, shorts, and flip flop kind of place. I love it. Go, and see for yourself.

MY REVIEW: Outstanding seafood, and super-fresh. The whole fried catfish was a surprise but delicious. The prices are so low and the atmosphere is like eating right at thedock. We will definitely come again.

MY REVIEW: We now live in Austin, but my wife and I drive over when ever we want some really good Seafood without breaking the bank. Today we had the 2 Bowls of Gumbo, 12 Dz Boiled Shrimp, 6 Oysters on the half shell, 6 Fried Shrimp, 6 Fried Oysters, and then a whole Flounder. We brought back for her mother, 2 Stuffed Crabs, 1 pt of Gumbo and Stuffed shrimp for our daughter. Total Bill with our drinks:

$69.01 with tax. $10.00 tip to our waiter. Great Service.

Find any other place with seafood as good as this or better for this kind of price, please let us know. The food, the service is always great.

Wish they would build one here in Austin. The college kids would go crazy for the food and the prices.

If you are going to Houston and want some great seafood, please do yourself a favor and go to Captian's Toms. You'll Love It.

MY REVIEW: First time at Captain Tom's and it was great. The prices are very reasonable and food was delicious. The wait for a spot to sit took longer than it did to get the food, and that wasn't long (about 10 minutes). If you like gumbo you will definitely be pleased with what they put in front of you. I ordered the cup should have ordered the bowl. The flounder was pretty good, but next time I'll try something else. The atmosphere is very friendly, which I really enjoyed for a Saturday night out. Not your typically dining, roll up your sleeves and enjoy.

MY REVIEW: I ate my Thanksgiving dinner here and for $22 (a bargain) enjoyed a great holiday seafood feast. I pigged out, but hey, it was Thanksgiving.

How is it possible that seafood this cheap can be so good?? Gumbo was thick with shrimp and crab ($3.10 for a bowl, not a cup). Dozen half shell oysters shucked while you watch ($5.95). Dozen fried oysters with fries ($8.95). And jalapenos stuffed only with claw meat, made while you wait ($3.45). My only regret is that I didn't get to sample some of those good looking jumbo fried shrimp that so many people were ordering.

I like the feel of this place. It doesn't pretend to be something it's not. It's shaped like a boat; you sit elbow-to-elbow at a counter; it's loud; and don't expect to be coddled by the 3-4 seasoned, no-nonsense Hispanic servers. English is definetly the second language at the East Fwy. location (but all of them speak English very well). For the hour or more that I was there, I was the only Gringo. It was not a problem. The patrons, which all appeared to be regulars, were in a festive mood as they downed long necks and micheladas with their fried seafood.

Forget fancy garnish or salads for that matter. The plates are plastic and the food is straight forward.

MY REVIEW: It is hard to find better food at a better price. Staff goes out of their way to satisfy customers. No wonder these places are always full. Would go there daily!!

MY REVIEW: Don't listen to any bad reviews here. They do NOT consider themselves fine dining & that is made very clear! It all about the food which is extremley tasty. Long wait? So what? It's all worth it. Maybe not a place for a first date for many, but if you were to take me to a "boat-looking" place and I get to eat that gumbo, I would be calling you back for a second date!!!

MY REVIEW: Long line even for a late lunch or dinner, but worth the wait. We always get the oysters on the half shell along with some hushpuppies. Everything there is good and even in the heat of summer, the gumbo is still appealing. Going there again today before heading out to West Texas where this food in non-existent.

MY REVIEW: Best gumbo I have tried in Houston so far. I have tried gumbo at New Orleans (across I-10), in Galveston and many other places in Houston and Captain Tom's is the best. This is not a place for uptight people. Oysters at B*abins may taste better, but Captain Tom's oysters are good. This place is small. Be prepared to rub elbows with people sitting next you. My favorite dishes: the gumbo, the whole fried fish (served with salt and pepper)and the stuffed shrimp.

Dishes are in the $7-10 dollar range. Whenever we have people visiting from out of town, we take them to this place. They love it.

MY REVIEW: Like raw oysters? Like paying only $5.95 a dozen (with one or two freebies thrown in)? Like fried catfish? If so, Captain Tom's for you!

What a find! Great food, great people, friendly, laid back atmosphere....so glad my Houston family knew about it. I was in heaven eating the absolutely best oysters I have had in years!

If there's a line, get in it....well worth the wait!

MY REVIEW: I did not like the place at all - it was too stuffy and the service was horrible. I received my gumbo (cup was running over and extremely sloppy) and the waiter kept giving me someone else's order. Plus they do not specialize in anything but FRIED food, I think they need to diversify the menu to accommodate those that don't indulge in fried food. When my mom’s food came out she loved it and it was huge – so the bonus is she liked the food but didn’t care for the service. Bottom-line the best Seafood place hands down in this area is B*abins, O*rleans Seafood, B*oudreaux's and B*oiling Crab - the service is great and so is the food.
