Oishii Japanese Restaurant & Sushi Bar

MY REVIEW: Let me just start this review off with the fact that my boyfriend and I absolutely love this place. It's extremely well priced for sushi and their portions are good for meals. They also have great specials. The thing that I love about Oishii is the atmosphere. It's small and cozy and feels so authentic. Almost all of the staff are Japanese (some are hard to understand but they're incredibly helpful and patient). This is probably the only restaurant Ill wait 30 minutes to an hour just to get a seat at the sushi bar on a busy night. Keep in mind though that evenings on the weekend this place is PACKED. But it's worth it. The Houston and Skydiver rolls are amazing and so is their takoyaki (pretty much the only place I know to get takoyaki in Houston besides the annual Japanese Culture Festival). I drive all the way out from Cypress on date night to eat here. It's that good!

MY REVIEW: The sushi is good and cheap. I'm satified when I go eat at the restaurant. HOWEVER, sometimes I like to pick up sushi to eat at home, and this is frequently a problem for me when I pick up food to go from Oishii. Everytime I call to make an order to pick up, the lady on the phone usually tells me that it will be ready in about 20 or 25 minutes, which is fine....but often enough they take much longer. One time they seriously took an hour and a half. I was waiting there with my husband for about an hour! No joke!...to pick up an order that would supposedly be "ready in 20 minutes." I was so upset, because this was sooo inconvenient. Then it happen again and again. Just recently, again my husband went to go pick up our order and he was waiting there a good thirty minutes, and this was an hour and 15 minutes after I called to place the order. I really like eating at Oishii, but when it comes to pick up, they have really bad customer service. They always take much longer than they say they are gonna take.

MY REVIEW: Can't believe there lunch menu! Shashimi for $1-$4 (mostly 1). Tuna roll is only 2.50, spider for 3.50. Food was excellent, fast, and wait staff attentive.

MY REVIEW: Fabulous, fresh sushi/sashimi. Nothing fancy to look at. The food is great, the prices are incredibly reasonable, and the waitstaff is friendly. If you're looking for an upscale restaurant this is not for you. On the other hand, if you're interested in delightful, fresh food at a great price, go NOW!!

MY REVIEW: I've driven by this place for years and it never ever occured to me to check it out. I went with a buddy last night and was very pleasantly surprised with Oishii. The setting is not fancy but it has an authentic feel to it (family style sushi???) Waitstaff was friendly and helpful, food came out quick and prices were extremely reasonable. It's absolutely worth the wait. Parking is a bit of an issue so plan (and park) according.

MY REVIEW: this place is for awesome sushi and service at an economical price in an ecclectic environment. if you want to "see and be seen" in the "pretty place" go one of the myriad of overpriced sushi places available in Houston. If you want to eat and drink with friends and have the waitstaff remember your name and your favorites?? this is the place for you. Long wait? hard to park? yes. so..go with some patience...and an appetite. try the John/Steph roll. ;) It's delicious. ( says Steph) lol.

MY REVIEW: This was my first time here, brought by friends. The restaurant was absolutely packed. Parking is a problem, so carpool. The stupid convenience store next door put a sign stating, "For customers only," but word on the street says he'll tow Oishii people.

I ordered miso soup and unagi maki, both of which were very good. The unagi wasn't too chewy or grainy. The staff was very attentive - because of the service, I wouldn't mind going again.

MY REVIEW: Great sushi with EXCELLENT prices. We prefer getting take-out since the restaurant is very small and not the most relaxing atmosphere. Their rock n roll is awesome and only a few dollars for high quality sushi! We LOVE this place and frequent at least once a week!

MY REVIEW: My wife and I decided to try this place after reading the reviews here and since the place has been here for a long time we thought we'd give it a shot. Place is a whole in the wall. Small restaurant plus lots of people equals to limited parking, long waits for tables and very high noise level.

Food was great and cheap (although the rolls weren't tightly rolled and were apt to falling apart). Waitstaff was quick and our waitress was very plesant and attentive. If you're thinking about going I would recommend it but be sure to keep everything stated above in mind.

Another positive is that this place has the largest sellection of sushi and rolls I have ever seen in Houston (as well as vegetarian rolls for all of you veggies out there).

MY REVIEW: Just keeps getting better and better! I love the new upgrades to the restaurant, they have added many new rolls, and service is best! I am grateful that the prices remain reasonable while they keep getting better. And while the parking will always be an issue at this location, it is totally worth the effort b/c sushi is devine.

MY REVIEW: My boyfriend and I LOVE Oishi! We would never think of going anyplace else when we have a craving for yummy sushi. Probably shouldn't even leave the review because the word is spreading and parking at this place is kinda tricky..but well worth the effort :) They increased the price on their happy hour menu items, but still a good deal. Oishi rocks!!

MY REVIEW: A sushi loving friend took me to Oishi for a joint celebration on a budget. I now have a new favorite sushi dive (two words that together could be a red flag, but in this case are not.) I am planning my next visit to Oishi with friends soon. Good fresh sushi, and reasonable prices for sushi on a budget.

I had pretty much quit eating sushi after some bad experiences at a better known sushi restaurant. I am back among the sushi lovers now! Thanks Oishi!

Do carpool, parking is very limited.

MY REVIEW: Was on vacation for 2 weeks out of the area and came back to my ABSOLUTE favorite sushi place ... best ever! I eat here once a week at least and am never disappointed. The food is fresh, the service is great and the prices are very reasonable. Lately they have made upgrades to the restaurant -- which I love -- the only thing they need to do better ... PARKING! I had to circle the building 3 times b/c both lots were full. Good for business, tho!!
