Profile Description: Shiva Indian Restaurant is one of Houston's finest North Indian Cuisine with 2 locations to serve you. The Rice Village location has an added attraction of viewing the Tandoori Chef through the glass window. The delicious taste of Shiva's food is very authentic. The beautiful decor with colorful saris and the traditionally lit lamps navigates ones imagination to the mystic country India, rich with its beauty and traditions. The 2nd location of Shiva is indeed a blessing to the Fortbend Community

MY REVIEW: Strong points: excellent food (i'm vegetarian), good service (usually Indian restaurant don't serve indian customers that well for some reason, but here it was bearable); awesome Malai Kofta!; reasonable pricing; excellent sugar land location
Weak points: Village location buffet was just ok, Sugar Land is much better (even worth the trip if you're working near SW Fwy); Number of vegetarian items on buffet could be greater
Main question: Would i go again? MOST DEFINITELY!

MY REVIEW: Shiva is one Indian Restaurant of Great Value in the Houston area and is the Best Indian Restaurant in town" A wonderful place to dine in.
The only downfall of this restaraunt is now I am craving Indian food everyday,..." My favorite restaurant is not in Clearlake
At Shiva I have experienced excellent wait staff, where the food is wonderful and the service is prompt. Do not miss their lunch buffet, the food is delicious and filling, price is reasonable. It is usually crowded at lunch so go early or late to miss the rush. I highly recommend this restaurant."
Shiva's is our family's favorite place..." "Indian Food Paradise"

MY REVIEW: murgh tikka masala was deliscious as usual, naan was great, sag paneer is still the best we've ever had anywhere, still need to work on their murgh (chicken) tandoori, needs to be moister. all in all, still our favorite indian eatery.

MY REVIEW: Good food, reasonable price and friendly wait staff are the positive points of eating at Shiva's. Good Indian food is hard to come by and sure enough both their locations have excellent food. My daughter loves the bread freshly prepared from the Clay Oven.

MY REVIEW: The food was good. Our party of four each had different dishes and we all found the food to be excellent. Two had never had Indian before, two were experienced. The naan was extra fine. Fresh, tasty and plenty of it. Lamb with spinich was excellent. Two chicken dishes were first class. Chicken with cheese sauce was fine. Glass of wine @ $6.00 was excessive. A bottle of same would be $8/9 at HEB.
Having said the above..... one should be aware that the service is awful. Not rude or mean spirited just not efficient to say the least. Had the restaurant been busier it would have a disaster zone. Go for the food, not the service.

MY REVIEW: I LOVE this place!!! I go once a week usually, and I have never been disappointed. The wait staff has been attentive and friendly, and they remember everything I like and how I like it and are very accomodating. The food is great. I have adored TexMex for years, but once I had Indian, that was it, and since I found Shiva, SHIVA is it for me!

MY REVIEW: The food her was very good but not as good as other Indian establishments that I have been to like K*iran's and I*ndika. It is lower priced than the competition. The service was average. The wine list is very weak with few selecions all of which are low-end. The food was the bright spot. It was great! The lamb Vindaloo is extremely hot! The atmosphere was good but not as upscale as other indian establishments around town. If you are on a budget, this is among the best but if you are willing to spend more, there are better choices in Houston.

MY REVIEW: The food is wonderful. The waitstaff very kind and attentive. They have really delicious ice spiced tea, naan, tikka masala, tandoori chicken, and others. If you come on a really busy evening and don't get as much attention as you want just give someone a friendly wave and they will rush to meet your need. We go often enough now that the waiterstaff remembers our favorites.

MY REVIEW: I went to the Southwest Freeway location for lunch on Wednesday January 24th. We were a party of nine, but due to the weather there was no trouble seating us together. The salads were somewhat plain, but the vegetable dishes were excellent. I don't think I've had Saag Paneer with chunks of cheese that big. The ubiquitous Chicken Tikka Masala was nice and the creamy tomato sauce had just enough bite to it to make me go back for seconds. The gosht wasn't baaaaaaaad either! They served roti (whole wheat bread) instead of naan, as well. The buffet was $8.95, about average for Indian lunch buffets.
One minor glitch was the amount of time their credit card machine took to process my co-worker's card. Other than that, nice interior, attentive staff, and very good food.

MY REVIEW: the murgh tikka masala and sag paneer were delicious, as usual. tried the boti, whole wheat indian flat bread and now have a new favorite. the spiced iced tea is my wife and i's favorite tea. i like being able to watch the na'an and grilled meats being cooked, it's a real plus being able to look into the kitchen through their big window, it looks like the bread chef puts the na'an on something that shapes it and protects his hand from the heat in the clay oven and he slaps the na'an on the oven wall. oh well, however he's doing it, he knows what he's doing!! nice to watch a craftsman at work!!

MY REVIEW: Shivas is my favorite inner loop Indian restaurant. The chicken hariyali is like palak paneer w/chicken instead of cheese. It's rich and the most delicious I've had in Houston. While this restaurant is pricier than the Hillcroft restaurants, it's definitly worth it. I order take out from here at least every other week. I've always been treated well by the staff and I've never had anything on the menu I didn't like.

MY REVIEW: If you want Indian this is the best. I highly recommend the Chicken Tikka Korma, Masala and all rice dishes. The Naan bread - all varieties is excellent! The staff are professional and friendly. The restaurant is comfortable. The only challenge I have ever had which is in common with most Indian restaurants is the smell. After a meal there you may not want to be at a group gathering b/c you do smell like the restaurant.

MY REVIEW: This was my first visit to Shiva and I must say I loved the food. I just had one complaint about the Naan. I ordered garlic naan, which is usually one of my favorites, but I was very disappointed to discover that it was just Naan coated (and I mean COATED) with garlic powder. I really dislike the taste of garlic powder and would have preferred fresh garlic.

MY REVIEW: This is one of my top 3 favorite restaurants in Houston. I have had Indian food all over the city, and all over San Francisco as well, and it doesn't get any better than this. Everything on the menu is very good, and many of the items are really, REALLY good.
For those people who knock the service: if you have to wait in line to get in, it's because the place is THAT good; if you were upset because the wait staff wasn't hanging over you every second of your meal, well, it's a cultural thing and you probably should go eat at D*enny's next time; if you don't think the food here is good, you probably don't have a very sophisticated palate and should just grab a burger next time. Sorry to be so harsh, but this is a place that just does not AT ALL deserve to be knocked; Shiva only deserves the highest praise. 5 Stars by my standards.

MY REVIEW: This restaurant has to be one of the best I have tasted in a long time. I am one that goes around to different restaurants to see if my taste buds can be dazzled. This restaurant is it!!!!
The waiters are very courteous. The food was remarkable. There was nothing to hate. There are only pros and no cons (unlike some other indian restaurants in town who drop food all over you)
This is the best restaurant of all time. I think Murgh Haryali along with rice stands out the most.

MY REVIEW: Thank you !!!I want to Thank the folks at Shiva very much for serving me and my family and the community on Saturday 09/24/05. We were coming home, back after a gruelling evacuation. We hadn't eaten in hours, and we certainly couldn't go home and cook a meal. Every place in Houston was closed, and so was Shiva.
The staff at Shiva were at the restaurant to evaluate any damage from Hurricane Rita. I enquired if we could get something to eat. The staff agreed and next thing you know, there were a crowd of hungry people who walked in. The restaurant operated with just two waitstaff. I am grateful to the good folks at Shiva for being so accomodative. They truly served the community on the day we Houstonians really needed a good hot meal.

MY REVIEW: After reading lot of good reviews we went to this resturant hoping that food will be delicious, we are disappointed to see mediocre food and service. There were very few varities of food and Gulab jamoon was missing , even though it was displayed in a board.I would not recommend anyone this restaurant, there are far better restaurant in houston if you want to taste good Indian food.

MY REVIEW: Maybe I've just been lucky but I've had good service every time I've gone to Shiva. The only time I had to wait to be seated was when my waiter was in the middle of a prayer. Once he was done, he seated me and was very helpful. The food is very good, well seasoned although not spicy, and I think would be a good introduction for someone who's never had Indian before.

MY REVIEW: At Shiva in Sugar Land, Houston one can experience a wide variety of authentic Indian Cuisine. Spices are the essence of Indian cuisine. Use of particular Aromatic spices and in their right measures have given Shiva's food its distinct unique flavor.
The cook's skill and perfection lies in the subtle blending of a variety of spices to enhance the basic flavor of any particular dish. Shiva's food presents it all. Excellent food, relaxing music and attentive wait staff.
I would definetly recommend this place to Indian food lovers.
This is one place no one can go wrong.

So I decided to give my wife a treat on Val's day. My wife simply fell in love with the decor and food. Our waiter was very nice as well. I will recommend this restaurant to anyone who would like to try Indian food.
