Pappy's Cafe

MY REVIEW: Lunch at Pappy's was great! When I asked whether the bacon for the BLT was crispy or chewy, our server, Ann, actually went to the kitchen to see how it is. Well, it turned out to be one of the best BLTs I have ever had, and a very generous portion. The sandwich was perfectly balanced - enough bacon but not too much and a nice combination of crispy and chewy, enough tomato and mayonnaise and lettuce. Had the cole slaw on the side and it was very good.

We also shared the peach cobbler a la mode and it was delicious with plenty of crust.

The service was cordial, competent and the timing was excellent. Definitely planning to return soon.

MY REVIEW: Driving home late, we decided to try Pappy's for the first time. We got there about 940pm. We were promptly seated. We felt bad they were trying to close so we ordered quickly. Hubby ordered the chicken tender basket which came with a side salad. I ordered a veggie plate and iced tea. He received his salad with homemade ranch dressing. He is still raving about it! The veggies were all fresh and crisp. The croutons were also homemade, and were very flavorful and buttery. The ranch dressing was terrific, with a strong garlic taste. His chicken tender basket contained seven tenders (enough to share.) They were hot, juicy and well seasoned. The fries were pretty standard fare. They brought honey mustard and cream gravy. Both were very good, and Texas toast was served with the basket. I got the creamed spinach, broccoli rice casserole and the twice smashed potato. The creamed spinach was extremely hot while the casserole was lukewarm. The creamed spinach was very creamy and well spiced. The casserole was fair (better at other places.) The smashed potato was my favorite thing on the whole menu. Very cheesy, hot, and by grilling the potato, the skin gets crisp and delicious.

Excellent food, we will back soon!

MY REVIEW: I've eaten here over the last ten years. If you stay with the burgers and other fare then food is OK, but don't try the steaks. I tried to eat steak there at two different times and both times the cut was tough and full of gristle. I had to trim most of it away to find an ounce or two I could eat. The waitress was good and took one back, but its replacement was just as bad. You get what you pay for at Pappy's, so stick with their typical bar food and go to S*altgrass or some other place for better cuts and pay a little more.

MY REVIEW: Have been going here since I was single. Married 24 years now. Love the Chicken Tenders, ultimate chicken sand, chicken fried steak, catfish, and a few other favs. Always good service, consistent quality. Manager brought us tortilla soup samples today and it was extremely tasty and meaty. Always take friends there and they have all liked the place. Nice casual atmosphere, good prices. I get "Pappy's" withdrawal if I go 2 weeks without going there. A solid tasty friendly restaurant you can always count on. Honey mustard dip is the best and really like the ranch, especially if it is cold.

MY REVIEW: LOVE the hamburger buns- SO SWEET

and love that when you order fries you get fried mushrooms and fried poblano peppers too. LOVE IT!

MY REVIEW: Had not been to Pappy's in a while. I could kick myself. The guacamole burger reminded me of how good a burger could be, and the fries with peppers were perfect compliment. The menu has so many items, have to get back soon to try some more out. This is a great place to eat: great food, fine service, and reasonably priced.

MY REVIEW: I love Pappy's. It is the best Houston has to offer for delicious southern cooking in huge portions. The prices are reasonable as well and the staff is friendly and fast. Like everyone else I've never had anything from here that I didn't love.

MY REVIEW: Read reviews on this site before trying it out. I'm so glad we did, the food and service were wonderful. I had the chicken fried steak, really good but not the best I ever had (G*oodsons Cafe rates number 1 in my book). Hubby had the guacamole burger wich was really good and the kiddos had a mixture of chicken tenders and cheeseburger, both enjoyed their food.

Waiter suggested the soup of the day wich was crawfish and artichoke bisque, all I can say is WOW..this was fantastic!!! I told hubby that I should have just gotten a bowl of that, it was seriously the best bisque I have ever had.

We had a great lunch here, we will be back very soon for some more of that yummy soup and everything else on the menu. One piece of advice go early this place gets packed around noon.

MY REVIEW: This is definitely a favorite with our family. We love the salads...homemade dressings and such great portion sizes! The Mexican food is unbelievable and I really haven't tried anything on the menu that I do not like. It is our "default" restaurant, so we end up there a couple of times a week. It does get loud just because it is so busy, but you can't beat the owner run business...they really care! I am ordering for our Christmas Party today...Scorpian tails, Chicken finger baskets for the guys and Asian Salads for the girls...desserts all around! I would spend my money with the local owners before the chains...

MY REVIEW: Service was very slow, it was 3pm on a Friday and on one was busy. The food was just OK not bad but not great. I think I will look around for something else.

MY REVIEW: A-1...A wonderful local favorite that has been around for a very long time. A family place with the best pot roast in town. Great burgers, chicken fried steak, and fish dishes! The daily specials can't be beat! Key Lime Pie to top it OFF.

A good place for a relaxed meal! It's a weekly stop on my dining out list!

MY REVIEW: If you like your cheese burgers hot and juicy served quickly with fat tomatoes, onions or just plain this is the place. They have t.v.'s behind the bar and it is casual and friendly; I've never had a bad meal here. You may run into an elected official, a sports figure, or an ex-president - try not to stare; it's really them. Enjoy.

MY REVIEW: I absolutely LOVE Pappy's!! They are always friendly, no matter if you are dining in or ordering to go. Their chicken tenders are the best, their salad dressings are homemade and oh so much better than from a bottle. The 'ritas are strong and the atmosphere is laid back and unpretentious. Whether having a party or dining solo, I am always treated as a valued customer. I highly recommend them to anyone looking for a good meal with a relaxing, friendly atmosphere.

MY REVIEW: Hands down one of the BEST restaraunts around houston, burgers, salads, salmon, chicken tenders, everything! I've been coming to Pappy's for almost two years now and i refuse to go anywhere else for a burger. Great specials, excellent margaritas, the service is wonderful and always friendly. It's very relaxing compared to the frozen food restaraunt chains all around Houston.

i strongly recommend Pappys to anyone interested in having a nice relaxing DELICIOUS meal

MY REVIEW: This place is located by my work and my co-workers and I just LOVE it, nothing on that menu has ever been dissapointing, some of my favs are the chicken tenders, chicken tender salad, their burgers (any one of them), and the deluxe chicken sandwich. Maybe its the homemade buns, crouton, or ranch but this place is GREAT!!!!
