Bubba's Texas Burger Shack

MY REVIEW: Everybody is right about the buffalo burgers, so there's not much I can add. It's always nice to be greeted so warmly when you go in. Hard-working folks who put out excellent burgers and other stick-to-the-ribs items. With baked potatoes, chips and the potato salad mentioned by others, who needs fries? I was there for the fish fry on labor Day, and discovered their latest menu item, little mini pies for dessert! I tried the sweet potato one, and it was awesome. I think they had four or five flavors, so will definitely try some of the others on future visits. Really, dessert was the only thing missing from this great little eatery, although they do have floats.

MY REVIEW: When I was first looking for a buffalo burger, I trusted the reviews here. I was not disappointed, and in fact was more than surprised how good it really was. I am not exaggerating when I say that I rate this as the best burger I have ever had, and I have been to hundreds of places (I'm known for going out of my way to try new things)
And as suggested, I tried the jalapeno potato salad, which was absolutely fantastic. I'm not a big fan of potato salad, but I was impressed enough with it to want more, and even to try to find recipes for jalapeno potato salad (not that anything I've made compares to theirs).
The menu is not large, but what they do have, they have had many years to perfect. Each visit is as good as the last, which for me has always been the test, that not only is it good but that it is consistently good. I wouldn't be writing a review if I didn't feel so strongly that this place is worth a trip.
The only downside I could ever see is the hard to find location or the limited space to sit, but if you get burgers to go then problem solved, or if you don't mind sitting outside. As to location, please let me give a little better directions:
If you are taking US-59, get off on Chimney Rock. Turn south and immediately get into the left lane, you're going to go about fifty feet to turn at the under-street of Westpark Toll (be prepared that traffic here can be unforgiving). Go east (turn left) and stay on the street underneath Westpark. About a mile down you'll come to the light at Rice St, and just past the light on the opposite corner you'll find Bubba's on the little strip of land literally underneath and wedged between the freeways.
If you are taking I-610, for the sake of not getting lost, try this. Get off on Westheimer or Richmond and head west (Galleria area). Turn south (left) at Chimney Rock and follow the same directions as above on Chimney once you get to US-59.
Unless you know the area well, it is easy to get lost, hard to make turns, harder to find some street signs, and hardest still to see any addresses on any buildings. I strongly suggest if you look up the address on google or mapquest, that you zoom in and look at the aerial view to make sure you understand your directions.

MY REVIEW: I've gone to Bubba's off & on (mostly off, stupidly), for about 15 years. I love it. I usually get the buffalo burger, w/smoked jalapenos. the buff steak sandwich is great, though--& the jalapeno potato salad rocks. Love the buff chili, too.
The atmosphere is exquisitely eclectic. The staff is laid-back & pleasant. I've sent numerous of my friends & customers--some fairly large groups--& everyone loves it, as much as I.

MY REVIEW: My wife and I were in the area and I've eaten there several times but not for several years. I decided to take my wifey there and as we drove up, she said "what a dive..." but she meant it in a good way. We both got the buffalo burger on the wheat bun. Both burgers were great, nice and juicy. Since it was a nice day, we sat outside and enjoyed the sunny day. This place is one of those places that you will see beater cars along with Caddy's and Volvos, everyone likes the food here.
We'll be back.

MY REVIEW: We checked out BUBBA'S TEXAS BURGER SHACK in Houston. It's on Westpark and Rice. It's literally a run down shack located underneath the 59 highway bridge. They have good reviews. I had the Bison burger and Jalepeno potato salad. The Bison was not as tender and bold tasting as the one I tried at M*oonie's in Austin. Overall it was good. They do not serve fries here (thumbs down). The guys working there are hard working, very nice and accomodating. There is not much seating inside. My rating: 8/10.

MY REVIEW: The place looked like a dump! But, my wife talked me into going though with ordering. I was completely taken by surprise, The people there were more then just nice and helpful on ordering, the food Buffalo burgers were cooked to perfection. I have MS and am on the Swank Diet for it and buffalo is one of the meats that I can eat. Going back this weekend and taking some friends with us.

MY REVIEW: My friend took me to Bubba's for the first time about 3 months ago. We had both heard that it was one of the best burger joints around, so we HAD to try it. At first, I was a little put off at hearing that they didn't serve fries, but boy did I eat those words! I have never had anything like the double buffalo bacon burger. It was absolutely superb! The patties were juicy, the bacon was the perfect crispiness, the cheese was melted to just the right consistency. The burger was so delicious that we both ordered a second round. I'm not a big guy by any means. At 6' and 140lbs, eating more than a burger becomes painful, but at Bubba's the pain is well worth having another piece of heaven in burger form.

MY REVIEW: "Don't judge a book by it's cover" is a saying we often hear, and is certainly true in this case.
We were particularly skeptical to try a restaurant that looked like a mobile burger shask, housed under the Westpark Tollway/59, and hobo's mooching nearby (don't get me wrong, they were NOT at the establishment, nor on the property, and nor were they causing any problems).
However, the food was wonderful. I'd been looking to try Buffalo meat for a while, and it was nice to find a casual eatery that serves this kind of meat. Its pretty cheap, and it seems like there were a number of locals who come regularly - which is always a great sign. I will absolutley go back!

MY REVIEW: First visit. Few tables inside, pretty cramped, and several tables outside. If they get crowded, you probably will have to wait for a seat. Had a buffalo bacon burger with monterey jack (saw on tv that they ship their jack in directly from Wisconsin) and jalapeno potato salad. They have lots of specialty bottled drinks and canned sodas. Meal was $8.74. Waited just shy of twenty minutes for the food, which was thy only downside.
The burger was lean and tasty, fantastic bacon, and gooey cheese. As for the jalapeno potato salad and my friend's frito chili pie...when they serve something spicy, it is quite spicy. Overall a good experience. Didn't beat out my top couple of favorite local burgers, but I will be back.

MY REVIEW: Been going to Bubba's for about six years - probably 40 times or so. I live in far west Houston now. But it draws me like a magnet when I'm in that part of town, particularly if I'm exiting the Hardy toll road at 610. St. Arnold's Lawnmower, a buffalo burger and jalapeno potato salad. Yeah, buddy! VERY friendly service.

MY REVIEW: Awesome, I recently moved from the galleria area and do miss this joint. the burgers are awesome, but try the buffalo hotdog. I travel from spring just to have their food, with the excuse that i have to go to the galleria mall for something. A must place for every Houstonite.

MY REVIEW: I found out about BTBS from a friend of mine that worked there for quite a while...and I quickly fell deeply in love with the Shack.
THE best place in Houston to eat for under $10, and THE best burgers in town. Get the buffalo meat on your burger -- it might sound gross, but it's only $1 extra, is leaner than chicken or turkey, and it tastes PHENOMENAL. And be sure to get the wheat bread -- their brand of wheat is called "S'wheat" (pronounced "sweet") bread, and it is to die for! They have an AMAZING hot sauce that you can use and/or buy in-store. And speaking of which, you can buy frozen buffalo meat directly from them!
All burger combos come with your choice of whatever chips you want, but the only downside is that they have no fries or onion rings -- because they want to be totally focused on grilling burgers! They have an incredible selection of drinks and beers, a very interesting interior atmosphere, a very relaxed porch area outside, and plenty of informal parking space. Add a great staff to the mix, and you've got....the best place in Houston to get your burger fix.

MY REVIEW: I grew up eating Bubba's burgers and they are easily some of, if not the, best burgers in town. I must say, the burgers have changed over the past year or so and I can't say that I find the change for the better. Still, as previously stated, the atmosphere and burgers are excellent. I recommend the Bubba Melt or buffalo burger.
My only two complaints: no fries and soda is only sold in cans.

MY REVIEW: A trip to Houston is not complete without making it to Bubba's. Once you find it you will never forget it and I never miss it when I am in town. I am going there now! I wish it was Sunday so I could enjoy the "Champagne Brunch" along with the friendly ambiance. If you like real places and great food then this is a juicy dining adventure for you.
