MY REVIEW: This was my very first visit to Pappas Steakhouse and my husband took me there for my birthday. We arrived slightly before our reservation time. My first disappointment came when we were seated at the very back of the restaurant and not in the main dining area. The table we had was small and the place was very brightly lit, not romantic at all. Our server (Eric E) seemed to be friendlier to the other couples sitting in the same area. The food was really good but the steaks could have been less fatty. The wine was excellent. After eating our dinner, we asked to have the remaining food boxed up to take home with us. After watching our server deliver the other couples leftovers and place their bags on their tables he mentioned to each that he placed a little extra into their left overs. When it came time for us to take care of the check, we had not received our leftovers so my husband asked Eric if he was going to bring them out to us. We were both shocked and surprised to learn that the server had placed our leftovers in a bag and then sat the bag (with our leftovers in it) on the floor directly behind my husband's chair. We could not believe that 1. he did not deliver our bag as he had the other couples by placing it on our table and 2. that he would place the bag on the floor. I really loved the atmosphere of the main dining area and the bar area, however; I was not impressed with the server. With this being my very first visit to Pappas Steakhouse, I seriously doubt I will be returning. I wanted my birthday to be special and feel special and I left there feeling as though I was not worthy of Pappas service. I'm sure Pappas won't hurt by this comment as there were many other couples getting much more deserved star like treatment.

MY REVIEW: My wife and I visited Pappas for her birthday. It was her first time to dine there I hadn't been to Pappas in years. I was instantly reminded of the why I have always held this place in such high regards. First the staff was very attentive from the moment we walked through the door. I wish I could remember our server's name, he did an excellent job throughout the entire evening and made us feel like VIP's.

I had the rib eye and my wife had the fillet. I can tell you this was the most flavorful rib eye I have ever enjoyed. I had to ask the waiter about it and he advised that they dry age their steaks in house. It certainly makes a difference, I mean this is a very flavorful cut of steak but it was just unbelievable from a flavor standpoint. The steak was perfectly seasoned and cooked to a perfect medium rare which I had ordered. They also get a wonderful char on the steaks which leads to a nice crisp outside and extremely juicy middle. I know that's what you should expect when visiting a steak house but I must note this was perfection. We both thoroughly enjoyed the the creamed spinach as well. This place has a vast wine list I wish I could try more of them but we have to stay within a certain budget when it comes to wine selections. The creme brulee was an excellent option for desert.

I'd have to say this is the finest steak have enjoyed in Houston. My wife felt like a queen on her birthday and that is also a wonderful thing. I highly recommend Pappas particularly for a special occasion.

MY REVIEW: Last night (11-19-10) was my first visit to the Pappas Bros. Steakhouse restaurant and I am certain it will be the last. I had previously visited the Pappas G*rill Steakhouse several times and really enjoy the food, service and atmosphere. When I found that it had closed I assumed the Pappas Bros. Steakhouse on Westhiemer would be more of the same. I was totally wrong! This was the noisiest restaurant I have even visited. My three guest and I could not even hold a conversation. In addition the tables were too close together for comfort. The food was good and the service was acceptable but overall the evening was much less than enjoyable. I should have taken my guests to The P*alm.

MY REVIEW: I had a dinner here like no other. The appetizers (tried 3 with others at the table) were all amazing and unique. I specifically recommend the crab cakes. Steak just melted in my mouth. Wine and dessert selection was incredible. The best part of the experience was the service. We felt like VIPs as every staff member took time to greet us and make sure our dinner was perfect. I have been to many other steakhouses throughout the country and this one is the most memorable by far due to the amazing food and staff.

MY REVIEW: Absolutely the best steaks I have had in Houston thus far (been here 2 years). It is fairly pricey...$150 to $200 for two people after tax easily for a complete meal with good wine and dessert. Every time we go, we have to have the mac and lump crab and the cream spinach. Both are delicious. All of the steaks are remarkable. Please dont ruin a perfectly good steak by ordering well-done. Service is slower, but well worth the wait. Make reservations and view the online menu before you go. It will make the experience go alittle quicker.

Definately recommend this steakhouse for all carnivores

MY REVIEW: Absolutly spectacular food and wine, as far as the broke hillbilly saying they dont have yellow tail wine, try walmart or the corner store. S*altgrass? S*altgrass? wow. I never thought i would have heard anybody say that unless they had no pallette whatsoever. Pappas... among they best if not the best in houston.

MY REVIEW: I have been to many steak houses and this was the best! the service was very prompt. All of the wait staff congratulated us for our anniversary. we felt like they took care of our every whim. the wine selection is great, the food is wonderful. because it was our anniversary they comped our dessert- which was a blonde brownie with ice cream and macadamia nuts...YUM!

it's not the cheapest steakhouse, but i felt the prices were reasonable for the level of service. we paid about $40 per steak, sides are $9, but they are large enough for two, appetizers were $15. the desserts are regularly $8-9. you'd be good to be prepared to drop around $150-200 to have a good time with some wine. best steakhouse ever. we will definately be back the next time we have a special occassion.

MY REVIEW: This steak house is awesome and I think the best one in Houston. It does NOT taste the same as S*altgrass steak house as one reviewer stated!!! Far from it!!

If you start quoting prices as a barometer of the quality of the food, then you should not visit Pappas steak house. Golden C*orral is down the street!!

The steaks here are high quality and perfectly cooked to your request. Medium done actually was cooked that way which I find hard to achieve at other steak restaurants.

The steakhouse salad was awesome - love the dressing and salad ingredients which really taste great together. I would also recomment the cheese board which had this awesome honeycomb which was a great accompaniment to the cheese.

The bread was hot and fresh. this has been a pet peeve of mine - the poor quality of the bread at some steak houses (i.e. onion bread at Mortons).

Alse get the mac-n-cheese side dish with crab!!! YUM!!!

MY REVIEW: I dont understand all the rave about Pappas Steak House. My wife and I go to S@ltgrass Steak house and it is just as good. I guess you can call us foodies becuase we know great food when we eat it and great wine like Beringer Zin and Yellow Tail wine. The prices on the menu were outrageous. Can you believe they wanted to charge me for the sides. Normally, i can get a loaded baker veggies and a salad with my steak for about $25. At Pappas they wanted $25 for just the steak and they also didnt have Yellow Tail wine. I guess Pappas hasnt quite come up to the level of S@lt grass, but give them a few years and it should be ok.

MY REVIEW: It was my first visit and we were celebrating a birthday. The service was great and the food was very good. Out desserts were free for the birthdays, which was a nice comp! My only complaint is that I only ate 1/2 of my 14 oz steak, intending to eat the rest the next day at home. Another dinner at the table also had quite a lot left and we asked to have all the steak boxed for us. When we got home and opened up the box the next day, only one of our steaks had been included. This would not be a big deal if it were a cheaper, more casual place. But there was 20$ worth of good steak left on my plate. I was very clear in my request and I would have eaten the rest that night had I not been expecting to enjoy the leftovers the next day. As expensive as this place is, if I'm laying down that kind of money, I want to get what I'm playing for!!!

MY REVIEW: I've been eating at Pappas Bros. for about 11 years, but tonight my wife and I decided it's time to find a new steak place. The chief problem is inconsistency. Sometimes the food is phenomenal, but other times it's really bad. Yet they charge you for a phenomenal meal every time. The service is slipping (tonight it was WAY off--forgotten orders, etc.), and the managers have lost their way with customers and their commitment to perfection. From time to time, we may stop in for dessert, which is consistently good. But I think I'm done with their steak. I'm a little sad it's come to this, but so is life.

MY REVIEW: I write this after dropping significant dollars at Pappas Bros. Steakhouse for a nice dinner, but one that was not worthy of the price we paid. Our waiter was pleasant and we looked forwards to a great evening, but the first sign of a "not perfect evening" was when the somelier couldn't open the bottle of wine at the table. She went to the back and brought it out decanteured. Then she began to pour the new wine into our current glasses which stil had wine from our first bottle! We had to ask for new glasses. Then our gumbo was to be topped with sherry which they forgot to serve (we had to ask for that), and one of the steaks were overcooked and had to be redone. The redone steak was cooked too fast and was tough.

Oh well! Now we did have a nice evening, but for what we paid we expected flawless service. I will say the side dishes were fabulous and the filets and the ribeyes were amazing! And the pecan pie was definitely worth the calories.

With so many steakhouses in Houston, this will not be on our short list--we gave it a try, but they have been scratched.

MY REVIEW: I love steak and I have to admit, I go to every new restaurant that comes to town. But I only do so to compare to my favorite place which is Pappas Bros. No one has beaten them in my opinion. They are the best every time.

The best thing about this place in addition to the food, of course, is the attention to detail and how conscientious, thorough, and diligent they are from the managers down to the busboys. Its almost surreal how perfect they can be. My last experience was just that...It was my wife's birthday and our experience was great from the minute we walked in the door until the end with a complimentary dessert for the occasion! The waiter made sure it was perfect, as he acknowledged this occasion from the beginning. Truely remarkable. Highly recommended place for those who have never been. Ask for Paul for your server if possible; a true professional that knows what he's doing.

MY REVIEW: Service: Very good.

Food: Steak - the fillet was only fair, and under cooked. Onion rings were not good - underdone and too big to easily eat. Asperagus was good. Shrimp was better than average, but cocktail sauce was bland. Lobster tail was a little tough, but tasty. Bacon wrapped scallops were great, but a bit expensive, and too much bacon for my dinner friend, but I liked it very much.

Drinks were very good, but expensive. Grey Goose drink was $12. Fresh squeezed grapefruit was wonderful. Waiter took my drink from the table before it I was finished with it (about half consumed).

Ambiance: Good, but a bit busy.

MY REVIEW: The service at Pappas was excellent during our most recent visit. The crab cakes were some of the best in Houston. However, I do not agree about the steaks. The quality of the meat is good, but the way it is cooked is not. I don't know of the broiler is not hot enough, but we cook a better steak at home. I felt as though it had been just fried in a skillet. The is the same way we felt when we dined at Pappas a few years ago, but we thought we would give it another try. For a great steak go to R*uth Chris.
