MY REVIEW: I hadn't eaten at Barbecue Inn in 20 years....WHY did it take me so long to return??? The brisket plate was sooo good. My partner had the fried chicken and it was to die for! We'll be back.

MY REVIEW: This is about as good as it gets. The fried chicken took me back in time to my Grandmother's cooking. The portions are very generous, so you might be able to split a plate with someone. Also had the ribs, they were very good. I encourage everyone to support this family business. The only thing I was not fond about is not having more choices for sides with the Fried Chicken. I would have liked to see have seen Mashed potatoes and green beans. No big deal as the chicken is the highlight. Want to try the fried shrimp or the chicken fried steak the next time.

MY REVIEW: I have never had a bad meal here and have been coming here since the early 1980's. Staff is very friendly and attentive and many have worked here for many years. Absolutely cannot go wrong with their comfort dishes such as chicken fried steak or fried chicken. Also very good basic fried shrimp and homemade fries. You can also get half order on some of the selections(chicken fried steak/chicken fried chicken) which makes it nice if not so hungry.

MY REVIEW: I ordered the seafood platter and was it was so-so at best. The shrimp were ok but the oysters were not good at all. I have had better frozen food at home and when you pay 20 bucks for a platter you want something that is tasty. It all tasted bland. Maybe something else is better. I recently had a similiar nplatter at V*ernons in Conroe and it was way better than this place. I wondered why I had not heard of this place before in my living here for most of my life. Now I know why.

MY REVIEW: Lily at the door was as great as ever. Very homely feeling and welcoming. This place is not a reject from the sixties it truly is as it was in the sixties. Great diner food with as good as any Chicken Fried Steak anywhere. Daughter had the fried chicken and as always was well worth the wait. Mom loved her order of fried shrimp as they were cooked perfectly and had great flavor. Never a complaint and always worth the trip regardless of the surroundings.

MY REVIEW: Absolutely Wonderful! How have I lived in the Houston area for 34 years and never been to this place. I arrived at 1:30 PM and both lots were full. I circled a couple of times and finally obtained a space. Lilly met me at the door with a smile and seated me. I shared with her that this was my first visit and that I was torn between the fried chicken and CF stead. She promptly suggested that I get a 1/2 order of CF steak with a piece of chicken on the side. Outstanding! The steak could be cut with a fork. The fried chicken was just perfect. Brown and crunch on the outside while still being moist on the inside. The fries are also something everyone should try. Even as I left at 2:30 in the afternoon, the place was still pretty full and people were still coming in. I will definitely return. The fried chicken is worth the 30 minute wait. Yum!

MY REVIEW: Went to Barbecue Inn with my parents when I was very young. Had lunch here today and it still looks the same, inside & out. The chicken fried steak with fries was as good as it was 40 years ago! I would recommend Barbecue Inn anytime.

MY REVIEW: Been eating there as long as I can remember with my family. My dad grew up in the nearby Heights and has been eating there as long as he can remember.
Ironically everything is good except the barbecue (save for the barbecue chicken). The fried chicken is their hallmark. Reviews on here claiming the chicken is akin to C*hurch's is utter nonsense. The seasoning is more subtle than some peoples' palette prefer, but for this reviewer it is the best I've ever had. If you like more ethnic chicken recipes then F*renchy's is probably your best bet in Houston. But if traditional southern-style chicken is more your fare (think about what the chicken Aunt Bee would pack Sheriff Andy in his lunch must've tasted like) then Barbecue Inn is a place you need to visit.
The decor is steeped in the sixties. Looking around the restaurant may leave you wondering if you somehow missed walking through a wormhole on your way through the door. I think it adds some charm.
The prices aren't cheap. Having said that, there are tons of restaurants in Houston that give you much less value for your money. I can't say that I really blame the owner either--their elderly client base is slowly whittling away, so cashing in a little while they can is forgivable.
Sad as it is to say, this gem won't last forever. A very good Mexican restaurant just down the street from this place (the M*exicatessen) closed its doors maybe five years ago. Give this place a try--you'll be glad that you did.

MY REVIEW: Same as it has been for 50 years!!!! Ribs as appetizers were perfect with plenty of meat and not overwhelmed with sauce. Daughter's Fried Chicken was perfectly cooked and served hot and juicy. Mom's Fried Shrimp were large and battered perfectly. Not over cooked and full of flavor. My Chicken Fried Steak was actually 2 patties and smothered in a great white gravy. Fork tender and the home cut fries were perfectly cooked.
Lilly was a hoot and everything was perfect as can be. Been going there for 30+ years and never let me down. Prices are still a tad bit high, but when you are this good it is understood. Family run as it has always been. To todays foodie you may feel like you just entered the twilite zone. Same interior as it was 30 years ago. Nothing to look at but everything to eat and enjoy.

MY REVIEW: This was my first visit, and it won't be my last! We were greeted by our server "Myra", whose friendly hospitality immediately set the tone for what was to come: hot, fresh fried chicken! Accompaniments were a crisp lettuce salad with ranch dressing and fresh, fresh, fresh hot french fried potatoes. Myra proudly stated the potatoes are peeled and cooked fresh at all times, a specialty of the house.
The decor was beautifully retro; old photos covering the walls of dark wood paneling. The ambience lends itself to a relaxed and satisfying dining experience.
Prices were reasonable and portions very generous. Myra's advice is free.

MY REVIEW: Yes, a 20 minute wait is usually a good indication of what is to come: great food and fantastic service. That is exactly what I have been experiencing at the Barbecue Inn for many years. One of the best places to eat in Houston. A true trip back in time comes for the price of a wonderful meal.

MY REVIEW: We had heard many positive things about this place so we finally drove down to give it a shot. A 20 minute wait on Saturday afternoon is normally an indication of what is to come. We were finally seated and it was a neat atmosphere. We had the chicken fried steak and fried shrimp with fries and a baked potato. The ranch dressing was good but the salad eas just lettuce and a few tomatoes so nothing fancy there. The shrimp were very good the chicken fried steak was a little of a disappointment. The gravy was bland and the baked potato was old and had an odor. I would say it is over priced for average food and poor, poor service. I actually got up to get a tea refill myself at one point. May or may not ever go back............

MY REVIEW: Our first visit to this legendary restaurant - my whole family fell in love. We had the Fried Chicken and Chicken Fried Steak. The chicken was crunchy and greaseless just like everyone says. It's not spicy, but you can tell it's freshly prepared and yummy like your momma used to make. The CFS couldn't be beat - it was fork tender and not doughy like most places. Service was outstanding and so were the french fries. I like mine with a lot of salt and pepper and I ordered some extra cream gravy with them - it was the best! I was impressed that they have security on site. We will be back many times.

MY REVIEW: My visit to this establishment was very disappointing and the price for two 3 piece chicken dinners and two ice teas was about $30 bucks. The chicken did not have any favor and the crust was little to thick and dark for my taste. The wait staff was great, but the drive to that part of town is not worth it!
