MY REVIEW: Since 1946 this is the real deal of the past. They get it right. The Tartar Sauce is in the bad containers and the Red Sauce is in the hard plastic unbreakable ones. All the dishes are old school diner and done as they are supposed to be done. The meringue is old school cafeteria but at the gourmet level. The waitresses are the best of the old school. They have all the touches including the authentic look- albeit a little old and the Neighborhood is done and should be up.

But having said that they not only remember the cheese, bacon, sour and chives but leave it at the table. They remember the right crackers with the salad and the white bread with the meal. The attention to the right details is great. Really the only negative is that it needs to be around an old skool movie palace, stores, and other entertainment from the late 40s or 50s. But after you eat your choice of Burger, seafood platter, BBQ, Fried Chicken, Fried Shrimp, or steak and start to eat a great pie you forget about how Crosstimbers is busted. Check out the awesome candy display as you pay at the register.

They just don't make them like they use to and this place needs to be preserved as a historical site. Tip the awesome guard on the way out. It's nice to know that he's got your back. Isn't that worth a buck or 3?

MY REVIEW: This place is almost a clone of the one I remember from growing up out in Sealy. The staff has been here for years and the atmosphere is very homey. I love how so many customers seem like part of the BBQ Inn family. I have never been disappointed in the food and the prices seem reasonable.

Last night I tried the fried shrimp and let me say they were great! I love C*hristie's fried shrimp and these were right up there. I know of nowhere else that can match their fried chicken and their barbecue chicken and ribs are very peppery and flavorable. The coconut pie is also yummy.

If you like old school atmosphere, service and food, then you should give this place a try.

MY REVIEW: We ate here tonight for the first time although we have lived nearby for a few years. It was very clean and well kept and the food was very good- we will go back. I ordered chicken fried steak and my husband ordered the half barbeque chicken. The chicken fried steak was fork tender and the BBQ chicken had a very good flavor. The fries were very good; they actually resemble potatoes. (I did add salt to the gravy and fries but it was still very good.) We also tried the coconut pie and it was tasty and cold. Our waitress has worked there for over 30 years.

Disappointments- The salad was mediocre as it was made with iceberg lettuce instead of field greens or romaine. Also, I would have liked fresh made rolls instead of just sliced white bread. To make a side substitution is an extra $1.65- too much for the benefit. This is not a place where you will find an exceptionally healthy meal, but we anticipated a chicken fried steak before we went.

Overall it was very good and we will be returning customers. The service was excellent, even the bus boy was friendly.

MY REVIEW: This family operated business has served Houston since the 1940's. It's a neighborhood treat and very often the line is a block long just to get in but it's worth the wait. I will date muself when I say I remember 20 cent potato salad, great cheeseburgers and little spinning stools at the counter. It's really best known for it's seafood and chicken fried steak. YUMMY GOOD. And some of the best pies in town, no longer made in house but stll wonderful. Try the coconut cream..not a coconut fan myself.. I must have this pie each visit.

Wayne and Louis do a great job NOT changing what works for this wonderful family friendly eatery.

MY REVIEW: I ate at the BBQ Inn because I was told it had one the best County-Fried Steaks in Houston. I was disappointed. The two steaks were tasteless to me though the gravy was fine. They need a thicker and different breading. Everything else though was great and made up for CFS.

I would go back for other things but not CFS. Saw a lot of people eating shrimp so it must be good there. Although called BBQ Inn I did not see anyone eating BBQ. The salad was as if they just picked lettuce. The bread tasted home-made. The french fries were excellent and obviously done in house. Service was attentive.

They have a well established clientele the waitresses and busboys knew many of the customers by name. Looked like a long term staff. The place was packed. My meal with iced tea and after dinner coffee came to around $16.00.

I would say for lunch get there by 1145 AM as they have a small parking area in front and back.

MY REVIEW: Barbeque Inn........I have been a customer there since 1981 and have never ordered Barbeque. Not even sure if they really serve barbeque there either. But they do serve the very best Fried Shrimp, second only to the infamous K*ings's Inn located just south of Kingsville, TX. The owners (two brothers) obviously learned years earlier that great food graciously served in a pristinely clean facility can survive the oil boom, the oil bust, and $4 gasoline.

Eat here often; you will never been disappointed!

MY REVIEW: Our entire family loves this restaurant. My husband was raised in the Heights and we ate there a couple of times a month until we moved out of town. Even then, whenever we had to go into Houston we would always eat there. We moved 90 miles from Houston a couple of years ago. As a birthday surprise, we took him back to the Barbecue Inn for some of their heavenly fried shrimp. The barbecue is wonderful, but the fried shrimp is so good that's all we ever order now. Also, the folks are so friendly there (including the customers) that you feel right at home.

MY REVIEW: One of our favorite eating spots. My wife and I "discovered" Barbeque Inn in the mid 70's, and ate there regularly until we moved. Now we make a special trip into Houston several times a year just to go to Barbeque Inn. We especially like the shrimp, oysters, and the stuffed crab is the best I have tasted, and I ordered stuffed crab in Jacksonville, Fla., Mobile, Ala., Baton Rouge, Galveston and down the Texas coast. The fried chicken is worth the 25 minute wait (it's prepared after you order) but the batter was a little salty the last time we were there. We do not order the barbeque so we cannot comment on its quality.

The menu is simple and the prices are comfortable (under $10 for the fried chicken.) The $1.55 add-on for baked potato is high, since they do not offer bacon bit as a condiment, but the potato is baked just right and you can add the sour cream, cheese, and green onion to your liking.

The salad is simple, but generous, and the dressings are common, but tasty. I like the bleu cheese, with real chunks of cheese.

Although the pies are not made "in house", they are baked especially for Barbeque Inn and are delicious.

Be prepared to wait, especially on week-end nights. Last night the line was out the door at 6:30.

MY REVIEW: I have a history of eating at this wonderful establishment for more than fifty years. It is still a treat. So many things change, but there is no subsitute for good food and fine service. Both are always available at the Inn. Warm service with a smile from experienced waitresses and a host who is always eager to please.

MY REVIEW: Was very disappointed in the quality of the food. Has gone down since I ate there about 2 years ago. Had BBQ sandwich, meat dry, overcooked, tasted more than one day old, no sauce, french fries, brought me the dregs, hard , greasy , could not eat. Returned them. Waitress friendly.

MY REVIEW: I have had better fried chicken in two places -- Smith House in Dahlonega, GA and my own kitchen. Kudos also for accomplishing what seems to be a lost art -- serving a baked potato that is neither under- nor over-done. Also was delighted to have a "potato cart" allowing me to serve the amount of sour cream, cheese, chives (!).

Disappointments -- no bacon bits, potato served with a slab of margarine already inside. Butter packages served with crackers would have been more to my taste -- or no "butter" at all. Also the $1.50 substitution fee to get a potato instead of fries seemed rapacious at dinner. Cream gravy seemed to be the kind made from a packet instead of from scratch, and totally a waste on fried chicken. Chicken fried steak was satisfying but if the Nov. Texas Monthly "best in Houston" rating is correct, there's no longer any place in Houston that serves a really delicious one. Barbeque was disappointing overall -- beef was so-so, ribs were adequate, and the pork actually had a flavor that made me cringe. Potato salad was decent tasting, but doesn't anyone make it with both flavor and chunks of potato anymore? Beans nothing to write home about. The green salad was generous, uninsipring and topped with a bland bleu cheese. Chocolate and lemon meringue pies were lovely to look at and scrumptiously filled, and the crust better than most. The coffee sent me into heaven -- reminding me of all the things I love about coffee.

We will go back to try the seafood, and possibly for chicken again. Portions are generous for the price, even though we usually spend a bit less for a meal out. Worth a visit if you have never been and are within 5 miles.

MY REVIEW: AWESOME!! Great fried chicken, fried shrimp. Baked Potatoes and all the fixins. Make sure you get some of the pie. I need to try the BBQ sometime. The service is also wonderful, they treat you very well.

Weak points: you have to wait for them to fry up that amazing fried chicken, but it is worth it.

MY REVIEW: THIS IS WHAT A CLASSIC AMERICAN RESTAURANT WAS AND SHOULD BE!

Don't be confused by the name - This place has the best Barbecue, Seafood, Fried Chicken and classic side dishes and salads in town - if you like Good 'ol food, perfectly prepared and graciously presented - warm, comfortable atmosphere, just the right low level sound and the kind of professional staff that will make you glad they call you sweetie - this is it - period. There is no better place to be taken care of. We drive in from Katy (and that's a long way) frequently, and would eat there every other day if we lived in the neighborhood.

MY REVIEW: "Don't order the Bar-B-Que"...that's a joke, we normally have some of the best fried chicken, chicken fried chicken, chicken fried steaks, etc. in Texas. My personal favorites is the fried shrimp. Lightly battered and ALWAYS fresh. Been going here for 20+ years. If you want good food, at good prices in a quaint, cozy environment with excellent service this is the place to dine. Need to try it at least once. Then you'll come back again and again.

MY REVIEW: It's amazing what they can do with a simple lettuce and tomato salad. The chicken fried chicken, french fries and cream gravy are sinful as is the chicken fried steak. A lot of older clientele insure a quiet and enjoyable dining experience. Martha is the friendliest waitress.

MY REVIEW: Hmmm....I think the average age in the restaurant must have been 70. People stared when I brought my 4 year old in....No drink specials, beer is pretty expensive. It's like visiting your grandma's, the place was last decorated in the 50's.

On the plus side, the staff was very sweet and nice. The food was pretty good, though the stuffed crab was mostly stuffing. The fries are fantastic. The white gravy for the chicken fried steak was bland. And, definetly not a place to sit and chill.....But, the food is good

MY REVIEW: I think the BBQ Inn is a great little place that offers fine dining outside of the chains that have sprung up around houston. I always order the fish (they used to have trout but now only catfish) or the seafood platter and my wife orders the chicken fried steak. I love this place because it is old school. This used to be a segregated restaurant and with that in mind I don't like the fact that all of the waitresses are old white ladies and all the busboys and cooks are black but I only go for the food so I am not tripping. I like the place its cool.
