MY REVIEW: The food was good but not over the top as the high prices would lead you to believe. Actually I was disappointed at the portion sizes and presentation. I've had just as good elsewhere at 1/2 the price. It wasn't intimate and felt more of a family atmosphere than the catered dining experience I was expecting.
The service was prompt and our waiter as well as all of the other staff were very kind.
I probably won’t be back given the other fine dining establishments this fine city has to offer.

MY REVIEW: Sure, this is considered one of the best restaurants in Houston and it certainly ranks with the best in terms of service and quality, but I think it gets more credit than it deserves and is over priced when the end-product is compared with other Houston restaurants. If it's a special occasion then you likely won't be too disappointed because you'll get service commensurate with the price tag. But if you enjoy fine dining on a fairly regular basis, you're be better off with one of the multitudes of Houston's other restaurants that offer as good or better meals at a fraction of the price.

MY REVIEW: I went in to Cafe Annie for a friends birthday and I expected everything to be grandiose and over the top and it was, but in the good way. The service was excellent and the food was superb. The server seemed to be a little smug, but nothing I couldn't handle. Although we were there for 3 and 1/2 hours, it seemed like only 30 minutes of pure excitement.
I had the filet of beef while my significant other had the peasant along with a salad. She said the pheasant was a little dry, but not untolerable. The beef was perfectly cooked and so tender that I could've devoured it with a plastic spork. It was as though Jesus came down from the very heavens and touched the beef and said, "Let thee be tender and delicious", because it was indeed bursting with divine flavor.
At the end of the meal there was a mistake of sorts, we'd been charged for beverages that we didn't purchase, but our smug server gladly had them erased from the meal. Oh, how can I forget! The dessert was absolutely delicious! We shared the chocolate cobbler and oh my god, I'm not a fan of cobbler but that was the most delicious dessert I've had, ever.
People seem to think that Cafe Annie has lost it's flare that it once had, but with food and service like that there's no way such accusations are true. The food is indeed outstanding and the restaurant itself is a MUST for any conniseur of fine foods.

MY REVIEW: I think this is one of the best restaurants that I have been to (I have not been to too many though).
Excellent appetizers, Entrees.. and desserts are Ok..
Most of the times I have been on company dinners, so cannot comment on price though it is on the pricier side.
I have not found a better place in the Galleria area.

MY REVIEW: Wonderful! My Husband and I went for our 2 year anniv. The food was delicious. I'm a vegetarian and the waiter was able to reccomond a few entrees for me that weren't on the menu. The desserts were to die for. The staff is relaxed, professional and warm. Unfortunately some of the patrons can be a bit snooty. Will be back.

MY REVIEW: This was our first time at Cafe Annie. We were greeted properly. In spite of the fact that it was a Saturday night and they were very busy, our drinks and food were served on time. They had an extraordinary wine list. There was no shortage of staff and there was no delay but we definitely felt rushed. They were in such hurry to get us out of there that forgot to bring my desert wine. When they handed us the check, we reminded them of that. The waiter apologized several times and brought me a glass of desert wine but he took it off the table without asking me before I was done. On a scale 1 to 10, we rated the food as 7 which would have been fine for a reasonable price. But they charge you for a what I would have rated as a 10. So the food was definitely not worth the money we spent. In other restaurants we have had food we rated as 10 for half the price of food at Cafe Annie. We won't go back and do not recommedn Cafe Annie.

MY REVIEW: Cafe Annie is what I have been looking for in Houston Restaurants. My girlfriend and I went there on a whim on the 9th of January...a Tuesday. We walked in and were promptly seated. I love the flavors of the Southwest and am usually dissapointed when the same old things appear on restaurant's menus. You know the stuff...tired quesadillas, beef enchiladadas, fajitas. This region of our country has so much more to offer than those mundane dishes. With fresh chiles, different cornmeals, moles, huitelechoce, cheeses, cilantro, mexican oregano, various fruits and vegetables, fish, beef, game, and poultry; the list can go on and on, and the possibilities are endless. Robert Del Grande (chef/owner) realizes this. His seasonal menus and constant pursuit of creativity within this cuisine, is what has earned him awards such as the James Beard. Our food was impeccable, as was the food. My hat is off to Chef Del Grande with his use of chile's. Southwestern Cuisine can sometimes be overly spiced and down right hot. Chef Del Grande's food although the presence of chile's are there, nothing that we had was burning hot or too spicy. The cinnamon roasted pheasant (a house speciality) and the suckling pig entree's were prepared and executed perfectly. Our starter was the Seared Sonoma Foi Gras with red chile jam...nothing can be said about it except that it was everything that I hoped it would be. We ended the night with a variation on several lemon desserts. They all completely lived up to our expectations. If you are looking for high quality, creative, and tasty food, skip R*ainbow Lodge, B*ossa, S*ambuca, M*orton's, S*ullivan's, etc...Go to Cafe Annie.

MY REVIEW: We were five minutes before our reservation time and were greeted immediately and seated at our table. The waiter was prompt and professional, though no smile. We ordered soup and entree and dessert. The soup was somewhat warm. The tortilla soup was spicy and different. The roasted corn soup was bland. The courses were served very promptly without delay - within two minutes after we finished a course. We ran out of bread and butter and took a while before that was noticed. The plank cooked salmon was crisp on the outside and smokey tender on the inside. The lamb shank was good but not outstanding. The mashed potatoes were creamy but heavy with cream/butter. We did not eat much in terms of quantity but we were very full. We did not order wine and the bill was over $100. It was a pleasant experience, and definitely more classy and less noisy and crowded as the M*ark.

MY REVIEW: Cafe Annie was always one of our favorite Houston restaurants with both impeccable cuisine and service. It has been approximately one year since our last visit and during that time so much has changed.
While Saturday night two weeks before Christmas is always a hectic time for restaurants, an establishment such as Cafe Annie should be able to handle the crunch. But last Saturday they were completely overwhelmed and the quality of what came out of the kitchen and the poor performance in the dining room was evident. Courses were rushed, the bottle of wine we ordered was incessantly poured until I had to ask the waiters (we had two) not to pour without asking and helpers/busboys were running around in a panic state most of the two-plus hours we were there. We did notice that a great number of the old guard waitstaff seems to have moved on. Whether this has contributed to the degeneration of the service level is open to discussion but I think it may. Without that core group to control what is happening, the whole process is in danger of collapse.
Our starters consisted of tortilla soup and salmon tartare. The soup was good but the garnish was overwhelming. The tartare was surpisingly bland.
My partners chicken was excellent but my red snapper was also very bland until I tasted the "holy leaf" which was very bitter and leathery...not a good choice.
The mashed potatos were excellent.
All in all, on a 1-10 scale I would give Cafe Annie a 5 for this visit. Not a great recommendation for a return visit. However, we will give it one more chance later in the year and hope the problems have been perceived and solutions implemented.

MY REVIEW: I love this place! They are fast and friendly! Even the bar "every day food" menu was the best I have ever had (I loved the fries)! They are also the best when it comes to holiday decor and fun! The only weak point I could give them is the closeness in the seating, but they are already working on moving buildings to manage that better! Great Job Cafe Annie!

MY REVIEW: A number of years ago, I returned from a trip to Houston and reported to my wife that I had eaten at one of the best restaurants in the United States: an upscale southwestern oriented restaurant in a strip center called Cafe Annie. Since that trip I have eaten at Cafe Annie several times a year and have observed it mature from a cutting edge upstart to reigning royalty. In the last several years, I thought that some of the excitement had wained, and Cafe Annie was becoming the Dowager Duchess of Houston restaurants: polished, still good but a little smug and missing the level of excitement that it once had when it was young and on the make.
My wife and I had dinner at Cafe Annie last Saturday, and it either was our mood, or some of the excitement in the food has returned. I had the black bean and goat cheese terrine (which has been on the menu for years), and it reminded me of the first time I tasted it and said "Wow". (The terrine is a variation on the classic foie gras in brioche, with the foie gras replaced with goat cheese and the brioche replaced by a black bean "loaf".) I also had roast suckling pig: a large square of tender pork with crisp skin on a bed of shredded pork. My wife had an impressive salad with pine nuts and striped base on a bed of leeks and other vegatables. Maybe not cutting edge anymore, but very, very impressive.
The service was resrved without being cold, the wine list covered price ranges with affordable interesting wines. All-in-all, and impressive statement that in spite of it age, Cafe Annie still has some prime left to its life.

MY REVIEW: Superb experience. Food was excellent as was the wait staff. Will definitely return. My only bad experience was the person at the table next to mine. He insisted on dropping F-bombs all night. Turns out it was Jim Hendry who is the General Manager of the Chicago Cubs. Not a good showing on his part.

MY REVIEW: Everyone must visit this wonderful restaurant for V Day. When we arrived, there were large and small red and pink balloons everywhere. Then when we were seated they had the table decorated with small party favors; red necklaces, chocolate hearts, small Valentin candy-just an array of trinkets that we were able to take home. The menu was delicious as usual. One can never go wrong with the coffee roasted filet that literally melts in your mouth, salmon with truffles (one word) heavenly. Yes it is a bit pricey-but then you realize that you are paying for the experience and atmosphere in addition to the food. P.S. they have the cutest wine buckets that light up

MY REVIEW: I have always enjoyed Cafe Annie, as a special occasion restaurant, but I WILL NOT ever go again. My husband and I went for our 30th wedding anniversary, and they were aware of it. We were seated upstairs, and had no more than ordered our wine and appetizers when they began re-arranging the tables. To our immediate left, they seated a party of 16 noisy businessmen--I could have touched the one seated nearest. That was the end of our romantic evening, and also the end of our service. A dining experience is one thing, one doesn't want to rush the courses. But two and a half hours for dinner was ridiculous, as we sat there waiting for our food and practically shouting at each other across the table. We had to ask repeatedly for more wine, the food was lukewarm when it arrived, and only average, compared to the stellar food we've had there in the past. The entire experience was a disaster and our waiter didn't seem to care. Bear in mind that our tab for this dinner for two was over $150.00. It seems to me that Cafe Annie has become complacent about service and quality. A pity, but there are so many other wonderful restaurants in Houston that returning to Cafe Annie would be foolish.

MY REVIEW: four very expensive diners to go .Upon arrival at home ,the plastic containers were leaking, the sauces were gone ,lamb and beef were dry and the bread was hard and old.
called to complain, have not seen any reparation action yet. Valid complaints should be acted upon by management promptly.

MY REVIEW: Food was passable. But I didn't like the fact that they gave me what was basically boiled jumbo shrimp with a side of fries under the diguise of a fancy-schmancy name. Expensive but nice service.

MY REVIEW: In fairness to all the restaurants I have offered my honest opinions and good reviews. This shall be my first negative review. Atmosphere and effort was good. Pricing is in line with other fine dining restaurants. A waiter spilling wine that splashed on my pants was generously met with apologies and offers of free dessert or champagne (all declined) and a manager offering to take care of the dry cleaning bill. The wine, salad, and bread terrific, our entree of Chilean Sea Bass was definitely the worst I have ever ate (sorry), the polenta served as a side was disappointing. The check arrived with a 100% tip added on. The manager offered more apologies and a corrected check. Being the owner of a service orientated business I believe that things can and will go wrong occasionally. I also believe in "making things right", this being a question that can not be impossed upon one's customers, needs to be an action by management upon recognizing when things have unfortunately not been as they should. Management failed. The dry cleaning as was this wine is on me.
