MY REVIEW: Sandwiches are EXCELLENT. The owner/staff could use a smile on their face and the young man behind the counter could use an attitude adjustment.

MY REVIEW: I was told to eat here by a Houston born friend, and glad I did. I had the Rueben, and loved it. The structure of the place was like taking a step back in time, and I liked it. The only negatives, yet minor, was the pickle that was served with the sandwich was not the best tasting, and the tea was not fresh. I will return to this place because it is far better than the other deli's especially the over priced Ken and Zig*gy's and Kat*zs.

MY REVIEW: I am so used to eating mediocre deli food, I had no anticipation of eating anything better. But I had read so many good reviews on the reuben that I thought I would try it. WOW!!! What a sandwich. The best I've eaten since I was in Manhatten. And the sandwich is big enough to feed half of the Israeli army. The service was average and the building is small but who cares!! The only advice that I would have for the owner is find another kosher pickle. Will I go back? I will over and over again unless someone shoots me.

MY REVIEW: How have I missed this place for so long? One of my first food memories was my mom taking me to Alfreds and I have missed it ever since it closed. Being a ruben lover it has always been hard to find someone who knows how to make a good one and Alfred's family certainly can! Piled so high with great ingredients you will be licking your fingers after each wonderful bite. I will be back again and again!

MY REVIEW: I grew up eating at Alfred's as often as possible, and hold many fond memories of that place. Alfred's son Michael has truly done his daddy proud, serving up the best deli sandwiches in town (and I've tried them all). The bratwurst reuben is the stuff of legend, but bring a big appetite, a friend, or a wheelchair to wheel out in, because you're gonna be FULL!

The only thing that keeps this place from being a true NY Deli is the fact that everybody at Kahn's is pleasant & helpful ... no self-respecting deli in the Big Apple would tolerate such a thing!

MY REVIEW: I grew up on Kahn's sandwiches. As I've grown up my tastes have expanded to include the whole menu. The Saurkraut is incredible and the tomatoes, onions and lettuce are extremely fresh. A dynamic beverage and novelty candy selection keeps me coming back. The Kahns team has a genuine love of serving people food, and it shows. I so much love the food at Kahn's (particularly the Alpine and the Knocks and Brats) that I applied to work there in the summer of '03. I worked for a year as Cashier and got the privelege of seeing the process in detail, from the meticulous inspection of meat to the care of the vegetables and the attention to personal requests and preferances. The commitment to standards of excellence in deli food was obvious. I'm away at college now, but Kahns is my cuisine of choice when I only have a few days in town. I miss everyone I met at Kahns who loves the Food and the people as much as I do, and know i will be a loyal customer for the rest of my life. PS they cater too and it is WORTH it!

MY REVIEW: Let me start by saying I love sandwiches and try as many as I can. I came to this restaurant based on the strong reviews it received on this site. Man... what a mistake that was. The lunch I had there was absolutely miserable. I ordered the Ruben, supposedly the house specialty, it was nothing but a discernable mass of beef and sauerkraut that tasted much like tequila shot sans the lime and tequila. After a few bites of my salty monster the rye bread, which I will say was the only good thing about the experience, collapsed and fell apart under the pressure of the mountains of sauerkraut and corned beef. I don't care about quantity, I want quality. If you like piles of beef and sauerkraut spread about the bottom of your plate with broken bits of rye as a side then by all means get in line to Craps Deli, I mean Kahn's Deli and order up a Ruben. Other than that the space was hot and very cramped. I do not know how it got so many positive reviews, pretty curious if you ask me. If you want a good quality sandwich in the right proportions I would recommend Jersey Mike's or Ruggles, also in the village.

MY REVIEW: If there is a better deli in Houston, I'll never know as long as Kahn's is around. I love this place. Thank goodness its so far from home as the ruben can't fall under the "health food" category. The sandwiches are just like those his father served on Stella Link except I think they are now even larger. A limited menue that does everything right!

MY REVIEW: I read about Kahn's on this web site. After reading that Mike was the son of the owner of Alfred's Restaurant. It immediately brought to mind the wonderful Reuben I use to get at Alfred's before they went out of business. My wife and I went to Kahn's the next day. I asked if Alfred's son was there and Mike intruduced himself. He seems like a really nice guy. My wife and I split a hot pastrami and a reuben. The pastrami was very good - The Reuben was worth fighting for. It was wonderful. The Shiner Bock was cold and the atmosphere was nostalgic. We got a ham and salami poorboy to go and a brownie to take home to our son. Mike makes the brownie's himself. Our son said the poorboy was great. We shared the brownie and it was good also, try one if you dare after eating your sandwich which is a meal by itself.

We live in Cypress so Kahn's is not a hop skip and a jump from our house. But I can assure you we will return soon and we will not be sharing the Reuben. I will have one all to myself.

MY REVIEW: I grew up in the original Alfreds on Stella Link. Every Sunday morning sitting with my parents noshing on everything! Alfred taught his son well! The Kahn's in the village is small and cramped, but the food is sooooooooooo good!

Best corned beef and pastrami in the state! One of those sandwiches, which could feed 4 people, and a Dr. Browns cream soda with a pickle and some potato salad can make anyone happy!

MY REVIEW: Best deli sandwiches and they are big. You can definately tell Alfred taught his son well. Forget all the fancy delis, you are looking for the food, not expensive decoration (you can't eat that).

MY REVIEW: I had assumed Kahn's had long since shuttered, so when I read on this site it was still open, I stopped by for a Reuben. Back before any of the Pappas restaurants, probably before Nielsen's, there was Alfred's in the Village, a place to go not only for great sandwiches (and box lunches), but a whole menu of good food following a formula later adopted by Pappas, generous portions of good food at modest prices. Alfred Kahn was the proprietor (many pictures of him adorn the walls of this dingy little hole-in-the-wall); this is the last remnant of that memorable Houston food institution.

I had my first Reuben ever at Alfred's; it is one of the greatest sandwiches ever invented. But I would have been ecstatic if Kahn's also served my other favorite from Alfred's, the hamburger steak sandwich on an egg roll; alas, they do not.

At $7.50, I thought the Reuben was probably overpriced, par for the course these days, but when it was shoved over the counter at me in the little plastic basket I realized $7.50 is a steal. The Reuben at Kahn's makes the corned beef sandwich at Nielsen's, itself a great sandwich, look like a canape. This thing is big enough for two, easily, maybe for a family of four with sides. The corned beef is very lean and piled amazingly high; it's much bigger than I remember.

The potato salad was just as I remembered it, creamy, mustardy, pickly, with the potatoes perfectly done. It's not the best potato salad I've ever had but beats just about everything except Nielsen's and my own.

But tho there is much more meat on Kahn's Reuben, they have not correspondingly increased the amount of sauerkraut, Russian Dressing and cheese, so the sandwich's tastes are out of balance; I had to pull the top off to make sure there was some sauerkraut there. Kahn's menu describes it as world famous and it deserves to be called world class, but next time, I'm going to request more sauerkraut and dressing.

Meantime, if you go, take someone with you to share it or go very hungry.

MY REVIEW: Best deli in town. The Reubens are unsurpassed, and *almost* more than can be eaten. As far from a chain as a place can possibly be.
