MY REVIEW: Class act!! This evening I encourted an act of kindness and customer service that was both surprising and refreshing. I pulled in the parking lot and was making my way to the door and I was told the Deli is closed. I must have had a look of hunger on face! The manager opened the store for me gave me couple of subs to curb this road warriors hunger. The sub was fantastic! Thank you!!

MY REVIEW: Rice, rice, rice - we sell no rice. Note to the corprate headquarters, the cost of wheat has increased more than 300% in the last few years. Yet almost every item Antone's sells contains wheat. The sandwiches, all the soups - with noodles, every salad with croutons. I asked today if I might have a serving of rice with the grilled veggies. The sweet and helpful ladies who work the counter said that they used to sell rice when they sold hot soup, before the corporate control. But now, they sell no rice.

Perhaps the corporate gurus could figure out that rice is a lot cheaper than wheat. That customers want rice - an option other than bread and pasta, and that many these days follow glutten free diets (even Pizza-holic ex-Pres Clinton has gone glutten free to improve health.

If not to give customers an option - then how about the price of wheat? Doesn't that go to corporate bottom-line speak?

MY REVIEW: The corporized change has lost me as a customer. I used to eat there several times a week, it was just across the street from my gym and my office. Now they pre-prepare all the food. The ladies who work there have always been the sweetest, most kind and helpful, I dearly adore them. But with the new changes, the food is not edible. In the past, they would warm up a piece of chicken and make a nice salad. Now all the pre-made salads have bread-crumbs already on. I don't like to eat any wheat products, so that rules out all of Antone's salads for me. And anything you get is Cold, Cold, Cold. They can't warm it up - and if you want to wait till it becomes room temperature - it will take hours.

The staff are not permitted to make a salad while you wait. The corporatized smarties should learn that by making it "simpler" they are driving away customers!!! A lost customer!

MY REVIEW: Was very sad to see that this location has shut down and there isn't another one in the area around Meyerland. My sister and I always ate there when we'd go out on our Saturday shopping expeditions. However, we love our Po'Boys so much that we drove to the one on San Felipe just to get our Antone's fix for the week. Didn't realize there was one on Bellaire inside the Loop or we could have gone there more easily. Wish there were more around the city.

MY REVIEW: I just not happy that they don't make your sandwiches or anything fresh anymore. You have to pick from already prepared sandwiches. They said that all Antone's will be the same eventually. Not good. The sandwich I bought today had soggy bread, as opposed to not soggy when made fresh.

MY REVIEW: I have been eating Antones since I had teeth. My daddy always took me to the Taft location and we would always eat together in the wine cellar. Since they closed :(, I visit the other chains..The worst is on TC Jester. I still can't believe they always manage to mess my sandwich up EVERY TIME...I order a Super with no pickles...I guess no pickles means you dont want anything at all on it including no mayo and delicious chow chow . Even when I drove back for them to fix it one time THEY STILL GOT IT WRONG!!! Gave it to me that time WITH pickles. She made me so angry because she had the nerve to argue with me about it. How hard is it really? Just make a Super and dont put pickles on it!! I make the drive to other locations even though the TC Jester one is down the street..All in all the Super is a great po boy...just dont let a idiot make it like I did.

MY REVIEW: Chuck: There are still several originals (I think 3), The one on Dunstan in Rice Village is one of them. One is on Kirby near S. Main and the other is on Bellaire near Stella Link. The poor boys from the original locations are the same as you had years ago. Some of the other locations are ok and some are not but the original locations are much better. When my oldest son comes into town, he wants to go to Antoines at least once and he wants to visit an original

MY REVIEW: I grew up going to the antones on stuebner at 1960 and at the original downtown location. I moved from Houston 12 years ago and have missed Antones ever since. When I was in Houston today my folks told me the antones at stuebner and 1960 had moved just across the street (I went looking for it yesterday) but that it was so bad that it was not worth the trouble. They decided to take me to the old voss location today, which they couldn't find or it is not there anymore. We googled from the car and found the 10555 westheimer location. When we got there it was clear that this was not an 'Antones'. It was useless to speak english here. My father asked a question about a sandwich and as he was trying to explain that he was not necessarily ordering that sandwich they had it made and asked him THREE TIMES if he wanted chips and a drink with that before they got it. He ended up just taking the sandwich, the rest of us ordered, and were all relatively disappointed. The general consensus all around the table was the same: not a terrible sandwich, but NOT an 'Antones' sandwich at all, and incredibly terrible service. We were also the ONLY customers in the store. The worst part was that my fiance was there who has listened to me talk about Antones for years and she laughed at me for the whole drive home, and rightfully so. Huge disappointment. One of my greatest childhood loves is dead. Although my dad did say that they were quite a bit better at Exxon and Randalls, but still not like real Antones, all of which is sad.

MY REVIEW: Excellent tuna 'po-boys', hummus and hot pita bread, tabuli. Curious, I stopped at 1;00 PM; they were out of 'tabuli' and out of sliced lemons for my water ! ! ? ? Upon leaving, attempting to place my napkin/cup/dish in trash - - container was " OVER FLOWING " How can this be ? ? Such a great taste but no room to allow customers to 'clean up ' Whatever ! I'll still go there as the hummus/tabuli/hot pita all taste SO GOOD TOGETHER !! ( Maybe I'm spoiled, but I like a clean, well stocked place ! )

MY REVIEW: A very important thing to understand is that there are really two different types of Antone's--the real one, and the souless corporate one. Years ago, the family made a bad deal and sold out. They thought they were going to get to have more control fo things, but they were not the most legal-savvy people, and things quickly changed at the corporate stores--cheaper meats, lower quality, etc. You can read the whole saga on Houston Press's web site. The family cannot really talk about all this, but there are still a few family-owned stores that do it the original way. You can tell by the signs, which have a different logo featuring some kind of round thing with rope around it, and the words, "Import Co.". There is no comparison between the two, both for the quality of the food and the character of the establishment and the people running it. I'm pretty sure the Dunstan, Kirby and Bellaire locations are the only family-run ones, but there may be one or two others, perhaps on the north side...? The original is by far the best.

The "Super" po'boy is out of balance--too much fillings in relation to everything else. The regular is just right. I always feel the tops of the wrapped sandwiches to see which one has the bread that does not give way when I press a finger down, telling me it is the one with the crusty top. I have rarely felt the need to try anything other than the original, but when I do it is usually the tuna, which is great, too. Have had the nature boy a couple times (not bad) and the faelafel wrap (not bad, with a little container of excellent tahini to go with it). After 10 years of eating there, I just tried the chicken salad sandwich, which was pretty good, but not really worth repeating. They have a good selection of chips and drinks (depending upon location) and the potato salad and grape leaves are good. I like several of their desserts, including the date-filed cookies--which have unsweetened semolina cookie filled with dates, which are the only sweetener--, apple spice cake, coconut macaroons, and the excellent brownies. My usual lunch is an original, a bag of either Dirty's chips (plain, jalapeno or salt and vinegar) an orangena, and maybe a dessert item. Antone's Original Import Co. is one of the things I love most about Houston--it's like an old freind.

MY REVIEW: J V is right-on. The Dunstan location is still operated by a member of the founder's family (or his team). There are several of these locations. The franchise locations are OK but they are not as good as the original family locations. There is no substitute for pride in making a perfect product, weather a poorboy or a luxury automobile. You will taste the love and pride that goes into every sandwich served here. Years ago the poorboys were left out at room temperature. To get the same taste that you once got (60's - 70's) at the Taft or other original location, follow J V's example and slightly heat the poorboy in a microwave or let it sit out until it is at room temperature (If you can wait that long.)

MY REVIEW: I love the original po' boy and I buy one at least once a week, take it back to work, pop it in the microwave for 1 minute at power level 20, and enjoy every mouthful. I've gotten the original in several locations, but -- except for the Dunstan store -- they've all been lacking. I don't know if it's extra mayo, extra ciao ciao or what, but the Dunstan store is far and away the best.

MY REVIEW: Antoine's Poboy is the best poboy that has ever been made. I remember the original store on Taft, I started eating there in 1970 and have been eating Antoine's poboys ever since. I really miss the Piggy Poboy though, it was my favorite.

MY REVIEW: I've been to this location several times and the food is never a disappointment. This is by far the best Antone's location I've found in Houston. The bread used to make the sandwiches is consistently fresh and all the other ingredients are terrific and not sparsely added. I highly recommend this location, particularly if you've so far been disappointed with other experiences with Antone's. These guys won't let you down!

MY REVIEW: This is the place to go if you loved the Po'Boys at the original location. the best po-boy I ever had is at this location and the store on Kirby I guess by Reliant stadium, over there they even have the best cup of soup you will ever have.

these places are immaculate I guess those people they know what the heck they are doing.

MY REVIEW: This place USED TO BE good (at least the food) before they changed the menu. The service has always been terrible there, though. I work nearby and go through the drive-thru. It's a running joke at work on what kind of sandwich I might get vs. what I ordered and how many times they would ask me at the drive-thru (over and over again) what I ordered. Can't ever get the order right at the drive-thru and this applies to various employees that I've run across there at the drive-thru. Sometimes I feel like I'm on Candid Camera there because no business' customer service could possibly be that bad on a consistent basis. Ridiculous! I stay away from there now unless I"m desperate for something to eat. The sandwiches just aren't that good any more for me to tolerate the bad customer service in spite of the fact that they're right around the corner from where I work.

MY REVIEW: Inflexible customer service - from what looked to be the manager (or owner).

I went there to purchase one of their big sandwiches (the 16"), and I was buying for myself and my girlfriend. I knew she wouldn't want to eat an entire 8" sandwich, so I asked for it to be cut into 1/3 pieces instead. Her response was - "If I do that, I will have to charge you for 3 small sandwiches."

I followed up with, so you leave the 16" sandwich uncut? she said, no they cut it in half. so basically, they wanted to charge me an extra $4 to cut the sandwich. I don't understand the logic, but there are plenty of sandwich shops around. Good sandwiches, just don't expect good customer service.

MY REVIEW: This is a regular stop for me. Decent food, decent ambience. Frankly, I only go because Subw*y isn't closer. Otherwise do try their chow chow and red pepper dressing to add something special to their boring subs.

The service at this specific location is fair for the most part. But the owner who doesn't appear to speak english very well, tends to drown during peak hours. I go during off hours and my service never suffers then.

One suggestion though, avoid their ready-made potato salads, they tend not to be very fresh.

MY REVIEW: Went to the restaurant on Friday 07/30/04 about 3:30 pm. The worker was extremely rude. He was too busy talking on the phone when I walked in on what seemed a personal call. The food I ordered had flies sitting on it while I had to wait for him to make another customer's order. I politely asked for another sandwich explaining why and he denied the reason, was extremely sarcastic about it, and refused to give me another sandwich. He did not give me a receipt. I did not accept the sandwich.

I don't think the restauraunt is a problem--I hadn't been to this location in a while, but I've been there many times before. The problem is that an employee with an attitude like this should be permanently replaced.

MY REVIEW: My co-workers patronized this establishment quite often because its close to our employment, and resonably priced for lunch. but yesterday, the service was terrible and seems to be slowly getting worse. We arrived after 2PM, only 6 people in the restaurant, sandwiches seem to take more than 5 minutes to make. Observing the customer in front of our group, the two employees making the sandwiches were laughing at him because he was upset that his order was wrong, obviously written down wrong from the gentleman at the register that I have never seen there before, and seemed to not be properly trained, possibly the manager. One of my co-workers returned his sandwich because it was made wrong, (he placed his order with the gentleman I spoke of earlier) then again they did it wrong a 2nd time. He decided not to argue the point the 2nd time due to the time it took just to get a sandwich and be able to eat with us. The attitude at this establishment is nothing positive to measure on a customer service scale. I am more likely to look for other places to eat now because of what I seen with the customer in front of me, very rude to laugh and ignore the customers concern. If I had been management, those two employees would have been relieved of duty, and a formal apology made by myself. maybe thats why the level of service is deteriating, no proper supervision or management. All in all, the visit was not pleasant, we told stories to our fellow employees who felt the same way........UNSATISFACTORY!!
