MY REVIEW: The restaurant wasn't all that great. The view was nice but where I was sitting there was water leaking from the glass where the air condition was installed, the ambiance wasn't that great either, they need to upgrade & modernize the tables, cloths, etc. It was like I stepped into a hotel from the 80's. The service wasn't great either, my server was backed up.
The only reason why I came out was for restaurant week. The 3 course dinner wasn't that great either. My date's salad had a piece of old greens. My steak was over cooked and the mouse dessert was pretty good. Overall I rate this place on scale 1-10 a FOUR! Never again.

MY REVIEW: I wanted to do something special for a proposal so I chose Spindletop and I am SOOOOO very glad I did! The food was great and the staff was wonderful from the host to the manager! We had the Filet Mignon and their Special which was a Rainbow Trout with Lobster....DELICIOUS!!!!!! I asked my server to bring the ring out with dessert and he said, "Don't worry, we are pro's at this." He was not lying because a plate was brought out with the ring accompanied with rose petals, designs and a heart-shaped strawberry cheesecake (delicious, too!) She said she had no choice but to say 'YES'. This was my (now) fiancee's first time here and she still said that couldn't have been a more perfect evening. A special thanks to them for a memorable evening!

MY REVIEW: My husband and I made reservations for 10pm for our 5 year anniversary. We arrived at 9:50, we were seated at 10. We already new what we wanted so we placed our order about 10:15 when the waiter got to us. We received our food at 11:15 (an hour later). We had crabcakes for appetizers that were very good, so we figured the rest of the food would be too. Not. I had the lamb chops and my husband had the mustard crusted salmon. It was very bland and the quantity appeared to be for a toddler. Bottom line, way too expensive for the limited and tasteless menu and the time issue.

MY REVIEW: I tend to agree with the last reviewer relative to cleanliness, which took away from the drinks and dessert which was all we had.

MY REVIEW: You pay for the view .... limited and pricey menu, boring and unattentive wait staff, leaky windows, dirty tables and floor. This place has a huge potential, but seems like they just are letting it fall apart, and they just don't care, what a shame. They should watch Gordon Ramsay's "Kitchen Nightmares", they might learn something.

MY REVIEW: I took my boyfriend there for his birthday and we both loved it. Our waiter Migel was very attentive and the food was excellent. We especially enjoyed the crab cakes. The manager came to check on us twice that night and he was very friendly and hospitable. Needless to say, the view was beautiful. If you are looking for a quiet romantic place to take your date, this is definately the place to go. We are going back.

MY REVIEW: Headed out to the Spindletop last night after a couple of years absence. Things have changed. I used to love it there for a "special" dinner out. The food is still fairly good but has definitely gone down hill.
My major beef is the wine list. The vast majority of it is Californian, which is fine if you have a bit of variety and something out of the ordinary. However, if people are out for a meal in which entrees are around $30, I don't think they want to see R.H. Phillips and Beringer on the wine list for $45 a bottle. Surely they can get hold of better stuff than the $7 a bottle in the store range!?
It's still a nice place to go for a different dining experience but I think they've become lazy. They shouldn't rest on the fact that there's a nice view.

MY REVIEW: This was my first time going and I was truly impressed. I heard it was one of the most Romantic restaurants in town. My wife and I had our 1 year anniversary there. We were not able to get out of town that weekend, so we just decided on dinner and a hotel stay. The spindletop staff was so attentive, yet not embarassing. I had alot of special requests in advance - champagne waiting at the table, a small heart shaped cake for two for desert and flowers delivered to the table after dinner. Leandrea (the hostess) took care of everything. The timing on all of it was perfect. I can honestly say we would never get service like this anywhere else.

MY REVIEW: Wow!!! It had been about ten years since I've been back to The Spindletop. This was my wife's first time dining here and she is sold. My wife and I just made 10 years of married, so I wanted this dining experience to be perfect. I can honestly say that it exceeded all our expectations. The view and atmosphere could not have been better if it was made for a movie. We arrived at 8pm on Sat. with no wait and they treated us like we were celebrities. They welcomed and congratulated us on our 10 year anniversary, then escorted us to the top floor where we were greeted and congratulated again. Everyone was in on the news and made my wife feel very special.
The waiter made an excellent choice of wine for me and very knowledgable. We selected biscotti as appetizers, then Ceasar Salads, for dinner my wife had the 12oz New York stip and I had the 22oz Ribeye (best I've ever had). The presentation of the food was gorgeous and the food was so good that it took everything in me not to eat the with my hands. They made a special dessert as a gift from The Spindletop Restaurant to us on our anniversary. The dessert was chocolate covered strawberries that were decorated like a plate of art. We didn't know if we should eat them or admire them... we did both.
We spent $111 on dinner plus a $20 tip for the excellent service. The waiter and the rest of the staff were attentive but knew when to let us enjoy our moment alone. We've had many fine dining experiences, but we struck gold at The Spindletop.

MY REVIEW: My friends and I went there last Saturday. We really like the view.
However, We got our food after one hour thirty mins. Then the Salmon was totally cold and uncooked. Medium steak was so dried, and of course well done steak was burned our side and supper dry.
The waiters took our salmon back to cook again. We had to wait for a another 20 mins. My girl friend ordered grill pork chop, it was not cooked all the way either. She was too hungry to realize that un till she ate haft of it.

MY REVIEW: I hadn't been to Spindletop since high school ('95), my husband took me last night for my birthday. The decor is still kind of '80's but the food is very, very good. It was really nice to see all (or a lot of) of Houston as we ate and talked. The waiter was very nice and the manager is very, very attentive. We had the crab cakes: very good, rib eye: very good, lamb chops with saffron risotto: very, very good although I'm not quite sure if that was really risotto, seemed like something else, but whatever it was, it was really, really good. I would definitely go back. We spent $101 (2 glasses of wine incl.) plus tip.

MY REVIEW: I took my boyfriend there for his birthday, and the food was so delicious... I highly recommend getting the crab cakes... it was very yummy.... My bf had order the Rib-Eye (<== That was very very very good!!! He had it medium-rare) Gosh, I can still taste it in my mouth. Very fresh and very delicious. I had the Rack of Lamb... I was trying to be adventurous but realizing I am more a steak person than a lamb person. The Rack of Lamb was delicious but it's kinda too Game...for my tastebuds. We didn't have any dessert there because I surprised my bf with an ice cream cake...but the atmosphere was very ROMANTIC and we made 1 and half turns. I recommend this resturant for Great food and great atmosphere!!!... WE WILL BE GOING BACK....

MY REVIEW: My husband and I decided to go yesterday to the Spindletop for our anniversary. The food was delicious, quite pricey for the amount of food you get (we spent about $100.00 total for 2). I had the bass and my husband had the New York steak, and for appetizer we had the beef skewers, all very very good. I had the chocolate cake and my husband had the baklava and they were both delicious as well. Their Black and Gold coffee was a bit strong in the liquor but not bad. My husband had a regular cofee and he said it was very good as well. It gives you a very nice view of Houston since the restaurant rotates. It makes one full rotation in about 1 hour, you hardly feel you are moving. Very romantic place as well. We got our food in a timely manner. The only problem we had was that when my husband called for reservations he asked for 7:00 pm and was told all 7:00 pm reservations were already taken so we took the 6:15pm one instead. Being on a Tuesday evening, the place was not busy and packed but were denied the later reservation anyway. Another problem is that they do not have a variety of appetizers and entrees to choose from. Over all I highly recommend this restaurant if you have a special occasion to celebrate with your significant other.

MY REVIEW: I had not been to the spindletop since the 80's but, after reading some reviews on this website, we decided to check it out. The food was wonderful and the cheesecake was wonderful. The waiter was very attentive and, we will be going back.

MY REVIEW: my boyfriend came from 1500 miles away and i decided to take him to spindletop for his birthday. we left so angry :( the food was great but it took forever. not only did we end up staying for nearly THREE hours (we spinned around 3 times completely) but i had to get up 3 times to get the damn waiter. i got him again to beg for the check and the birthday cake, and he took forever again. finally the hostess girl and some bus boy came over with the cake. my boyfriend blew out the candle and we just left. super terrible experience.

MY REVIEW: I entertain clients on a regular basis in Spindletop because of the close proximity to my office. Plus, there isn't a bad seat in the house. Service is efficient without being intrusive and on my latest visit the chef came to the table to see if the food was prepared to our liking. That made me feel good about my decision to bring my clients here again and again.

MY REVIEW: This place is amazing! My boyfriend and I went for our anniversary dinner, and needless to say it was spectacular! I had the BBQ tuna and it was amazing! My boyfriend had a chicken dish that had a strange name, but it was awesome! The waitstaff was very nice, and the atmosphere was quite and romantic. We went on a saturday night at about 8pm, and we only had one person sitting beside us. The prices are ver reasonable as well, I think we spent $70, and it was well worth it. I would recommend this place to anyone.

MY REVIEW: My wife and I decided to venture downtown to see the new main street. On a whim we decided to visit Spindletop. Our visit couldn't have been better. Our server was attentive without being intrusive and the chef stopped by our table just to see if my filet was prepared as ordered...which it was. My wife and I eat out 3-4 times a week and I have never had the chef come check on my meal like that ever. The thing that really made our night in downtown special were the views. Wow! This has to be the most romantic restaurant in Houston.

MY REVIEW: I went to Spindletop with my family for my younger brother's graduation from kingwood high school. Actually we went a few weeks after his graduation so that we could include our grandparents. It was their first time to go to downtown Houston and we really wanted to show them how beautiful the city is at night. They were blown away by the view; they had never seen Houston in all her glory. So, not only was the view incredible, but the food and service was GREAT! I wanted to try something that I don't normally order at restaurants, so I ordered an herb crusted chilean sea bass. Needless to say, it was wonderful! Next time I want to try the lobster! And for dessert I ate a triple layer cheesecake. It was so good that I might have to let the c*heesecake factory know that they have some competition! Everything that night was perfect. The servers really understand that when you go there for a special occasion you want everything to run as smoothly as possible, and that is the service they provide. I would really like to start eating at Spindletop more often, not just for special occasions! I would recommend Spindletop to everyone, especially people that can't decide where to go on a date! It is the perfect location and setting for any date.

MY REVIEW: My boyfriend surprised me with a Valentine's dinner in Spindletop at the hyatt hotel. I was worried at first because we were going to a hotel to eat but everything was so romantic. The views of the city at night are so beautiful. Our waiter was really polite and efficient. We each got a glass of champagne to toast which was included in our meal. I ate the duck which was pretty good. My boyfriend had a steak...not as good as other steaks places in town but still the restaurant is so different. I am ready to go back again and would recommend others try it too.
