MY REVIEW: Wow! My wife and I just moved to Houston from New Orleans, where we have been very spoiled with excellent cuisine. But, Crappito’s made us feel right at home. Everything from the service to the atmosphere and food was top notch. The prices were more than reasonable for the dining experience. I would recommend this restaurant to everybody looking for an awesome place. Personally, my evening was topped-off by the delicious Italian Cream Cake for dessert. I find very few restaurants that offer that dessert, and Crappito’s Italian Cream Cake is one of the best I have ever had.

MY REVIEW: It's hard to add to the excellent reviews already posted. However, the food and service here are amongst the best in town. It should tell you something that we put up with fighting our way through the Katy Freeway mess to go here. We had a birthday dinner for my wife in the Red Room. It's a little bit quieter and more private than the rest of the restaurant.

All of the food here is fantastic. We've tried the various appetizers and have found that the asparagus and crab to be absolutely wonderful. Shrimp Nellie and Snapper Dr. Louis remain our favorites. My wife received a free piece of cheesecake and I had a chocolate mousse cake. Both were delicious.

In addition to the food, the service was excellent as always. This is truly one of the finest dining experiences in Houston.

MY REVIEW: Upon hearing that I wasn't happy with a side salad ordered during my first visit, Owner, Frank Crapitto personally located and contacted me to apologize and invite me back. It's rare that the owner of a successful restaurant would show such an interest in one patron, as he can always count on so many others to stay in business. He assured me that he and his chef found a suitable balance between oil and vinegar in the house vinegarett. Moved, I took him up on his offer, and put him to the test by bringing my Italian wife who has lived in or visted nearly every place in the world, and is a tougher critic than I.

I opted not to go with the house salad, but the Caesar instead. Though somewhat on the dry side, it was exceptional. The dressing was so flavorful that the Romaine didn't need much of it to make the salad's point, also keeping it on the lighter side. My wife and I shared the Salmon, w/ rosemary potatoes, spinich and a side of fettucine alfredo. I have to say that the portion size was enough to satisfy both of us. There wasn't an item on our plates that didn't excel above its versions in competing restaurants. The salmon was the right texture and loaded with flavor (no fishy smell). both the potatoes and spinich were seasoned well w/o out all the butter drowning them like Carabba's. My Italian wife said the potatoes were "just like her grandmother used to make." My personal favorite was the fettucine alfredo. I tried this dish in virtually every Italian restaurant in town, and this version takes the prize. My wife concurred and praised how perfectly al-dente the fettucine was cooked.

Frank chatted w/ us for a while. At first we thought it was only owing to the circumstances; however, upon our exiting we observed him visitng several tables. In the world of competitive franchise conglomorates, it's rare to still have the care and attention of the owner himself, w/o moving to a one-horse town. I'm glad Frank tracked me down and invited me back. I can't wait to return!

MY REVIEW: This is my favorite Italian (or any other) resaurant. It is a tradition that my wife and I go on Valentines day. I have never had anything but wonderful food. Always just right, flavor, presentation, ample portions, temperature. The wait staff is impeccable. Your water will never run dry, nor will your other favorite beverage. I started going here years ago to entertain clients from out of town. All were very impressed.

Even at a busy time the place is quiet enough to have a real conversation and you are not so close to another table that you have to worry of privacy and you are not pushed to rush your dinner or visit. These characteristics you will not find, or at least I haven't, at any other Houston restaurant. The closest I have seen are a couple of places I visited in the Netherlands. Even though we don't visit as often as we would like, unbelievably, some of the staff remember our name. Good for just a casual dinner, as it is a nice place, but not pretentious, business gathering or special celebration.

MY REVIEW: I like this place a lot-- it doesn't have that swanky, pretentious feel that seems to be taking over restaurants these days. Instead, it is very has a very simple, intimate feel to it. I heard it used to be a barn or something, I don't know. The service is great-- attentive and polite, that's pretty much what I look for in service. The food was amazing to say the least, albeit pricey. Fried asparagus topped with jumbo lump crab was delicious and my girlfriend and I fought over the last bite. The pasta we each had was very creamy and very heavy. It was a chicken pasta, I think perhaps called "Chicken Diablo' or some variation or the other. Dessert was kinda weak but maybe we ordered the wrong thing. Some type of chocolate cake a la mode (vanilla ice cream). A little too sweet but I don't have a sweet tooth so maybe you'll like it. Expensive, I think the entire meal came out to be $75-$80 including tip.

Overall, this is a great place to eat at. Take family or intimate friends over here. Not saying that your first date bleached-blonde hair girl won't be impressed by it but it is not as swanky and decorated as other restaurants. I like this restaurant a lot and need to keep reminding myself to come back here some time.

MY REVIEW: Got seated at the exact place i requested when i called for reservations, the waiter was very nice.
Ordered some Mt. Veeder Cabernet, waiter new exactly how to serve the wine.
Ordered some crab cakes, pretty good, very large cakes, two per plate.

Waiter was on top of everything, I ordered the SNAPPER DR. LOUIS, and is was fantastic. The largest piece of snapper I've ever seen, smothered witha white wine butter sauce and chunks of Jumbo crab meat. I asked if they could throw some jumbo shrimp on top of the fish, and they did it without a hitch. Shrimp was just as delicious. I would definetly recommend this place to anybody who likes wine, and real seafood. Place is fancy, but casual enough to feel comfortable. I give it a 9/10.

MY REVIEW: Everything was outstanding! I hosted a birthday dinner here for a group of nine. When we arrived, the staff had prepared both outdoor and indoor tables for us and allowed us to choose our preference. Our waiter was very attentive and friendly, but didn't hover. The food was excellent. We tried the crabcakes, calamari, veal chop, pork chop, grilled snapper and seafood ravioli. All of it was delicious. Our waiter also brought a complimentary slice of the house cheesecake for the birthday guest. The atmosphere was quiet, romantic and understated. Not at all ostentatious or showy. Altogether it was a lovely evening. My compliments to the owners for maintaining such a charming restaurant.

MY REVIEW: The service was phenomenal, from the valet parking to the waiter. Lovely location and atmosphere. This is about as high class as you can get. The calamari was the best I've ever had, and the veal piccata was just as outstanding. It is also worth mentioning that the prices are more than fair considering the quality of the food. I am thoroughly impressed and will recommend this place to any and everyone.

MY REVIEW: My friend organized my birthday party here last night and everything was so perfect. The service was impeccable! When my friend called to make the reservation, we thought we were going to have about 20 people. The restaurant originally offered us the red room which accomodates that many people but later upgrade us to the private room upstair. On the day, several people had to cancel and we ended up with 13 people. My friend called to inform the restaurant and they were so nice about it. They still let us have the big room upstair and set the table for 16 people. When I walked in I was told that the table is ready but some of my friends are in the bar. The bar is isolated from the main dining area in a charming little room. I was immediately asked for drink order as soon as I sat down. When more than half of us have arrived, we went upstair. Our waiter was on hand to take drink orders of the new arrivals. When we sat down, he promptly brought breads and spread. The olive spread was so delicious. We ordered a couple of appetizer sampler- great calamari and crab cakes. I had the salmon and spinach - so so good. Everyone in our party seemed to enjoy his/her food. The wine was also very good and not outrageously expensive. My friend had brought me a cake and gave it to our waiter, Dave, ahead of time. After he cleared the table, Dave brought me the cake with lighted candles, sang happy birthday to me then proceed to cut and serve the cake. And through all of this, he kept separate checks for every body! He was pleasant and attentive the whole time. We all had a great time. I will definitely come back to Crapitto's often.

MY REVIEW: Yet another lovely evening at Crapitto's. I called for reservations during the holidays and had a return call from Mr Crapitto.

At our suggestion 6 of us had dinner last night, were quickly seated and served, and service was impecable. My husband and i both enjoyed the chef's special, snapper with crawfish, HUGE lumps of crabmeat and peppers and a great sauce. We always order the salad of tomatoes with red onion and gorgonzola, such clean tastes. Others enjoyed veal dishes and all raved about how wonderful it was and thanked us for introducing them to a new restaurant. Thank you Frank , we will return!

MY REVIEW: Great atmospere which is good for special occasion dining as well as a regular stopping place. We had the seafood special which we split and the desert was very good. If they are crowded the parking is by competent valet, but in slack times street parking is available. The pictures on the b4-u-eat website are very accurate to what you can expect. There was a large group having a good time in the bar on our visit. We will go back with friends.

MY REVIEW: I have dined here several times on Dates, and its very quiet and quaint, and the food is wonderful. Waitstaff is attentive and personable, coming to the table several times and taking plenty of time to explain and the wait staff would kneel at table level when taking orders, which is very nice, gives it a friendly feel, which was a very nice suprise, since often times at higher end places, if you're not a regular or on the "A" list, the employees tend to be snooty. Just looking at the dessert tray will put you in a diabetic coma (we had some anyway). My sister is coming in town and We'll be dining there tomorrow night, since I've been bragging on this place for the last few years.

MY REVIEW: Since Crapitto's is so tucked away, I had never heard of it. A hostess at another restaurant actually suggested it, so I stopped in to check out the menu and decided to take home some appetizers. I got the crusted parmesan artichoke hearts for myself and the crabcakes for my boyfriend. Unfortunately for him, he was at work and only came home to half of the appetizer! The crabcakes from crappito's are honestly the BEST I have ever had and the artichoke hearts were delicious! The crabcakes were much bigger than you would expect for the price, so I was pleasantly surprised.

I can't wait to try the rest of the menu, and I'll be sure to check back in and let you know how it goes, but please, try it yourself if you love (good) Italian food like I do!

MY REVIEW: We tend to forget about Crapitto's because: we live downtown and don't want to fight Galleria traffic; we generally eat at home or have more plebean fare at less special restaurants, though always with a waiter; and since we've been married I get to arrange my birthday and our anniversary.

Last anniversary we went to Crapitto's for the first time. It took just a few moments to be seated, we met an interesting solo diner, and due to a large party arriving we were asked to move to another table, a corner table by the windows that was lovely.

In order to recompense us for the inconvenience of moving us prior to our entree, owner Frank offered us a bottle of champagne which we declined because my husband doesn't drink. Instead he matched a glass of wine to my entree, gave us dessert and a personal tour of the kitchen.

For anyone who is a dedicated cook (as am I) the kitchen was active but slowing down for the evening as it was after ten o'clock. It is well-appointed and very small, requiring a veritable symphony of its chef, sous-chefs and others at full-tilt to put out the marvelous food delivered to patrons.

We enjoyed our evening and since I'm now the date-night coordinator (doesn't that stink, married ladies?) I think I'll call for reservations for our third anniversary that's coming up later in the month.

Thanks b4-u-eat for reminding me of this restaurant.

MY REVIEW: I finally made it to Crapitto's after hearing so much about it... Almost everything lived up to expectations - the service and the atmosphere were wonderful. However, I was very surprised to see that there were not any vegetarian entrees available on the menu. They were very nice about substituting portabello for chicken in the Diablo pasta, but upon tasting, it was clear this wasn't the way this dish was supposed to be served. I'm disappointed because Italian food is normally one of the easiest cuisines to incorporate veggie options. I would like to return here, but only if a few entree options are added, or I could look like a cheap guest and just order some appetizers - but right now, that's the only option I have!

Overall, this is a great classy place that truly believes in great service - but, they need to realize that it's 2005 and even in Texas, there are people who choose not to eat meat (I know, crazy) but still enjoy a nice restaurant.

MY REVIEW: Why no food reviews here? Let's go. Before food though, waiters should always wait until a conversation is over before breaking in. Minor, but happened and something I've noticed at several other fine restaurants around town.

Wine: Jordan 99 Cab from private cellar. Excellent. Bread: Excellent choice. One of the best styles served in town. Tomato with mozzarella nicely done.

Veal special. I prefer a more lightly breaded/light oil picatta style with more meat than breading. The veal was so thin (10/90) that my colleague was surprised when I said there was meat inside (and he ordered the same?). Flavoring was good, and the cream sauce on top was well done, although the oil from the breading made it too rich.

Pasta Pairing: would not pair a breaded veal dish with only pasta. Perhaps grilled or steamed veg, but there was only pasta with a rich cream sauce (yet another cream sauce?). The combo resulted in too rich a meal, too much carb, and too much cream. Why not a 'very' small pasta portion with marinara to entice one to come back with steamed veggie on the side?

I will return, definitely because of the stellar reviews of Crapitto's. I am tempted to try the lasagne, even though I'm not a fan of ground beef (I have encountered many others who feel the same). Spiced italian sausage lasagne or three cheese/veg lasagne? Will have to try a grilled dish along with a sample their pastas with marinara and suga rosa sauces.

MY REVIEW: The atmosphere is lovely, I felt very comfortable and slightly elegant at the same time. The only week point on the physical make up of the restaurant was the lights above the tables were too bright. The food was like a joyous explosion of simple italian flavors on my tongue. The Chicken Pamela was incredible, and the wine list was very reasonable. The service is nothing to complain about, this is definately a repeat restaurant for years to come.

MY REVIEW: Talk about the perfect hideaway. I found this jewel of a restaurant on Mid Lane while browsing around some specialty stores on the street. It is so close to the Galleria that it makes it a great spot to lunch and feels like a get away. It was a beautiful Friday and the patio was fabulous. I had the Chicken Pavorotti which was a grilled chicken breast topped with artichoke hearts and mushrooms topped with my favorite, alfredo sauce. It was a nice twist on a dish that usually comes with with a lemon caper wine sauce. The waiter was so helpful. He recommend an excellent wine to go with our lunch and my friend loved it. I even tried it, it was a very smooth Chardonnay. The food, the patio and the service were all very good. Some of the best patio dining in Houston!

MY REVIEW: My wife and I visited Crapitto's several months back - perhaps in October. We had reservations for 7:15 pm, and almost an hour later, still had not been seated. We became upset and left without dining. I posted a negative review of Crapitto's on this site.

Within days of my post, a representative of the site contacted me, letting me know that the owner of Crapitto's, Frank Crapitto, had read my review and was unhappy that a guest was dissatsified with his restaurant. I called Frank a few days later and discussed the situation with him. He apologized profusely and invited us to visit his restaurant again, his treat.

We visited again last week. We were recognized by at least four different individuals as the dissatsified guests (the valet, the owner Frank, one of the head managers Rosali, and the hostess) and they took care of us to make sure they changed our minds, and that they did. The entire experience was wonderful. Our server was very polished and courteous, the ambiance was elegant, the wine was excellent and the food was very fresh and delicious - and I emphasize "fresh." Rosali stopped by our table once or twice to make sure everything was going well. He mentioned that they are doing well as a restaurant (obviously) and one or two dissatsified guests probably wouldn't hurt them, but when they go to bed at night they feel bad that someone had an unpleasant experience at their restaurant. That struck a chord with me and really set this place apart from our other favorite spots around town.

I was very pleased with how everyone at the restaurant handled the situation, and was very pleased with the dining experience. Everything was delicious, service was great - couldn't ask for anything more. We will definitely visit again.

MY REVIEW: We had dinner here for our anniversary. It was a quaint and romantic, and the service was fantastic. The wine selection is great. We started off with the calimari, which was fried just right, and not overcooked and rubbery like some places. My husband had the Ceasar salad. It was light and flavorful, and not overly tart. For our entres, I had the capellini di mar (pasta in a rich cream sauce with crab lumps and grilled shrimp). My husband had the osobucco (veal shank on the bone), and the meat was so tender it fell of the bone. And for dessert, we had the Italian cream cake, which was light and not overly sweet. Overall, our dinner was excellent. It was our first visit, and we will definitely return.
