Profile Description: Since 1984 Chez nous has stunned diners with superb cuisine and attentive service. Incongruously located in an old renovated pentacostal church in downtown Humble this restaurant has amassed many national awards; Zagat's survey "America's outstanding restaurants", DiRona "awards of excellence" and many others. Our motto is above the entrance "The owner is the Chef, as it should be, and the Chef is in the kitchen where he belongs".

MY REVIEW: We went to celebrate our birthdays and were suprised to find such a wonderful little restaurant in a housing area. We had made an earlier reservation, so it was quite stiff when we first arrived. As more people came, we were able to relax. The waitstaff was very attentive, but our waiter was a little over-the-top formal. Otherwise, our food was served at the same time, water was kept full, and the dining experience was wonderful.

I began my meal with the most wonderful escargot that I have ever had. They continually brought warm rolls, but I think this item would have been more enhanced with toast points. My husband ordered a gratin which was good, not outstanding. For dinner, we each ordered a different entree: bacon wrapped beef tenderloin with mushroom sauce and tenderloin with fresh foie gras and madeira sauce. Both were outstanding and were served with wonderful fluted garlic mashed potatoes and delectable sweet carrots and green beans. The presentation was lovely. By reading reviews, we decided to try the souffle trio, and we were certainly not disappointed. They brought them warm to the table and spooned a light cream into each making it a presentation into itself.

We truly enjoyed finding this wonderful restaurant in Humble. We were never rushed and thought the food, service and the night was enjoyable. We'll visit again!

MY REVIEW: In visiting a restaurant, I judge my visit for the quality of the experience. "Experience" is, of course, a highly subjective term and for every person it means a slightly different thing. To make a long story short, Chez Nous is one of my two favorite restaurants and by far my favorite restaurant in Houston. The food is excellent (it taste like itself), the service is impeccable, the ambiance is just perfect and the overall experience is priceless (well, actually it does have a price, which I find reasonable: around $100 per person if you choose an affordable wine).

Just let me say one more thing: if you like excellent food, great service, quiet atmosphere and you live less than 200 miles from North Houston/Humble do yourself a favor and visit this restaurant; you are not going to regret it.

MY REVIEW: We went for a belated anniversary dinner and were not disappointed. First class place and worth the trip up to Humble. Food is very good with service to match. Very pleasant, quiet atmosphere allowed us to dine in a relaxed manner over a couple of hours, which is what you should allow for a first-class meal. They aren't concerned with turning over tables here. I'm sure they could rush things a bit if you want.

I had a cocktail, charcuterie plate, small salad, veal scallops and the three-souffle dessert. Was pretty stuffed. My wife had artichoke soup and rack of lamb. Everything was very good. If you want a dessert souffle, order when you order your meal.

I did like the way that they ask if you are celebrating a special occasion when you make reservations. Since it was our anniversary and my wife was too full to order dessert, the waiter brought her a little sorbet and fruit on a plate with "happy anniversary" written in chocolate. We had declined any more alcohol since I had to drive back home, so he brought two glasses of cider. It was gratis and a very nice touch.

Wait staff was very attentive and helpful. Prices very reasonable for what you get. I've paid more for much worse and less.

Was surprised to see a few guys stroll in in shorts at 7:30pm but they weren't turned away. I guess that's Houston.

MY REVIEW: I wanted french food for my birthday dinner and after researching the choices available in Houston through this website - my husband picked Chez Nous.

Everything was outstanding. The service was impeccable, the food excellent, and the atmosphere made the evening. If you're concerned about the drive, don't be - it will be worth it.

MY REVIEW: A visit to Chez Nous is always a special treat. My husband and I went for his birthday (and mine). We have been going to Chez Nous for about 17 years and the quality of the food only gets better and better. The service is always perfect and we are never rushed through our meal. The atmosphere is tasteful and comfortable. It's a treat to be able to actually talk to each other without shouting.

It is always hard to decide what to have. We both vow each time to try something new, but keep going back to our favorites. We have gone for almost every special ocasion (birthdays, anniversary, Valentine's, New Year's, etc.)If you have not dined at Chez Nous, you are missing one of the finest restaurants in the greater Houston area. Needless to say we will be back, and back, and back!

MY REVIEW: My husband and I had dinner at Chez Nous to escape the family for a few hours. When we called to make a reservation, they told us that we should come after 8pm so we could have the chef's tasting menu. The dining room is formal, but not stuffy or snobby. The staff were friendly and very attentive. We were welcomed at the door and promptly shown to our table, even though we were about 20 minutes early.

*Note--my husband has a culinary degree, and I go along for the ride. The detailed descriptions are his, and I'll add my 2 cents!

The first course was an exotic mushroom bisque. The flavors were well developed and not overpowering. The portion was small because the soup was very rich. (I commented that it was pretty much a delicious bowl of mushroom gravy, and if someone was going to put a bowl of it in front of me, I was going to eat it and like it!)

The second course was a perfectly cooked single diver scallop. It was seared to perfection and placed atop some creamy seafood orzo, which was fluffy and delicious.

Our third course included Chez Nous' own charcuterie. We were served a pate of cold braised pork shoulder that was well seasoned and served with some field greens and perfectly crunchy baguette croutons.

We ordered an extra appitizer of seared foie gras. It was served with fresh berries and a honey viniagrette. (If you've never had foie gras, we describe it as "meat butter"--the flavor of meat that melts in your mouth like butter.) Served traditionally French with melba toast (really thin slices of white bread toast.)

For our main course, we were served a 6 oz filet mignon wrapped in applewood bacon. It was accompanied by a madeira sauce and topped with Saint Andre cheese. Every bite was delectable. On the side were garlic mashed potatoes which were as fluffy as a cloud, as well as perfectly steamed (and very sweet) carrots and French green beans.

To finish our meal, we were served an apple and peach gallette. It consisted of poached apples and apricots in a wonderfully flaky crust and served with homemade vanilla ice cream.

Overall, we could not find anything that could be improved upon. The seasonings and temperatures were flawless and classical French cuisine was not abandonded. The prices reflect the food and not the clientele of the restaurant (they weren't inflated to pay for a swanky location or to impress anyone.) The tasting menu (minus our extra app) was $55, and I had a wine pairing with each course, which added $30. Each wine complemented the food perfectly. I especially liked the Heron pinot noir! Bread and water/iced tea refills never stopped appearing at our table, and each server was friendly and helpful. We truly enjoyed our experience at Chez Nous!

MY REVIEW: We always come here for a nice romantic dinner. The drive is more than well worth it. Delicious food, top notch service and cozy atmosphere. We always get the fois gras, escargots and the Chateaubriand for two. We always have a perfect evening here.

MY REVIEW: My husband surprised me with a dinner at Chez Nous for Valentine's. I believe reservations are required because as soon as we walked in the door and told them our name, everything was done and ready for us. The food was great and the waitstaff was very attentive. The enviroment was very warm and romantic. The dinner was not cheap, but it was definitely worth it. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone wanting to celebrate any occasion with their special someone!

MY REVIEW: I don't think I could think of a better way to celebrate our anniversary! We had never been since it was a rather long drive for us. From the moment we entered until we left service was excellent and the food was spectacular. Although we like wine with our dinner the two of us can't finish a whole bottle. We tried one of the half bottles they recomended and, in what was a nice touch since we were not familiar with that wine, they said they would give us something else if we didn't like it. It was delicious.

We split a yummy salad of greens and fruit as well as the scallops appetizer. We both ordered specials - my wife the red snapper and me more scallops. Everything was perfectly prepared. I mean perfectly. We felt like we were back in france. When it comes to bread we tend to be picky and their's was excellent, and warm! After dinner they brought us complimentary champagne and small dessert for our anniversary!

Finally, even though their menu said souffle' could only be ordered for reservations after 8 pm (we came at 7), they made us a chocolate strawberry anyway. Very light and lucious. Even their decaf espresso was good which I find lacking frequently at really nice restaurants. And while not cheap, it was less expensive for what we had than places like M*ark's, Da M*arcos etc. The decor was pleasant (an old converetd house) but not spectacular. Extremely stuffed we enjoyed a long contented ride home!

MY REVIEW: I've got to say that Chez Nous in Humble,Texas is a truly superb fine dining establishment. Anything the Chef has as evening specials is highly recommended as is the signature side of the menu featuring some of the finest rack of lamb or beef tournedos you can find anywhere.

The desserts...absolutely top of the line.

This restaurant will do whatever you want however you want it and it will be the as good as any restaurant in the world. Think I'm kidding? I assure you I am not.

You have a special occasion or just want excellent service and something great for your money then this is well worth the visit.

MY REVIEW: We are dine out people, when a new restaurant opens and if it sounds promising we give it a try. Sadly, we are too often disappointed and, everytime, my wife rolls her eyes and says "no more wasteful ventures, lets just stick to Chez nous". And that is how good this unassuming but superb establishment is. I could go on about the consistently superb food and attentive service but could not do it justice. You just have to go and experience it for yourselves, when you do you will realize that this restaurant is one of the best anywhere!

MY REVIEW: My wife and I recently dined at Chez Nous for the first time for her birthday. The attentiveness of their staff and their attention to detail was excellent from the moment I phoned in our reservation, till they bid us farewell for the evening as we left their very quaint restaurant.

The menu has a well rounded collection of traditional French dishes and some other choices as well. Their wine cellar is more than adequate. Their daily specials are available to review from their website, which includes a nice variety of current in season dishes that build on and extend on the kitchen's well established French cooking style.

Menu prices were very reasonable. You will not find a "$0.99 menu", but in comparison with other fine dining locations their menu pricing is conservative and the ample portions are prepared with only high-quality ingredients. Our main entrees included their Salmon and Steak au Poivre, both of which were very tender. The salmon was fresh and extremely delicious. My wife stated it was, "the best salmon dish I have ever had."

During the reservation and unprompted, they did inquire whether we were celebrating a special event and took note of the correct spelling of her name. After we had finished our dinner and desert came, it was personalized.

Unlike some of Houston’s other well known fine dining establishments, Chez Nous is an unassuming option. Even if you are not a regular or have notoriety status you will still receive cordial yet welcoming and sincere service from their warm and inviting professional staff.

We will definitely be returning for another dining experience.

MY REVIEW: This experience is nothing less than magical everytime I go. To begin, the fois frau(spelling is surely wrong) is the most amazing thing I have every tasted. It melts in your mouth! I strongly recommend the regular items on the menu, but I must say, if you do not try a special (located on the left side of the menu) you will be missing out on the true art of flavor and creativity presented by Stacey the head chef. This restaurant offers more than food though. The service is OUTSTANDING. This is to be expected at a five star dining experience, but you feel special, appreciated, like family to the staff. TRY THESE ITEMS: Fois Grau, Crisp Pasta Salad, Escargot, Blue Crab Salad, Shrimp Provencale, Chateau Briand, Filet Mignon, Rack of Lamb...Dessert is always amazing...

MY REVIEW: To the reader, I point out that my wife and I are regulars. Far from making us biased, it proves that when it comes time to spend a romantic evening at someplace special, more often than not we come to Chez Nous.

There are amazing things on this menu, and nothing is less than excellent. Once you've found the little house in the wooded neighborhood (cool! quaint! hip!) and parked ten houses away, the interior is just exactly what you want - managing a perfect blend of comfortable and classy. The wait staff will learn your name after two or three visits, and with a few days' notice you can almost always get that special table. And then you get to eat!

The duck mousse pate' alone is worth travelling across state lines. I think I'd pay $100 for a serving and be thrilled to get it. At $8.95, it's ridiculous. How can this be? And that's only the beginning - the escargot, the smoked salmon, the crab tower...and we're still on appetizers. Oh wait, I forgot the steak tartare, the best in the city, and...oh, you get the idea.

What are the odds you'd pick a salad as a favorite dish at a French restaurant? But here, the tomato and onion with vinaigrette is probably the best, freshest, cleanest, most flavorful salad you'll eat in a year. It's the perfect break between the first course and entree, and you'll be tasting it in your head for a week.

I can barely keep track of all the amazing main courses here, but even the good old-fashioned Chateaubriand is perfect - you can't get better in New York. Then there's the lamb (oh man!), the duck, and any of the daily fish specials.

And now the piece de resistance: the souffles. My wife and I seldom eat desserts, preferring to use the space for an extra course of soup or salad, but we make exceptions for souffles, wherever we are. And after 25 years of fine dining, we can safely say that the finest souffles in the world are served at Chez Nous. You can get a cute little 3-plate sampler, or just pick one and go for it. The raspberry is our favorite, but have fun deciding for yourselves.

Wow, there's nothing like writing a review of one of your favorite restaurants in the world at 6pm to drive you towards the nearest quality food. Tonight we'll do something nearby, but I already know we'll be at Chez Nous on Saturday, at our favorite table, trying to decide between the appetizers and entrees. But the tomato salads and raspberry souffles, those are SET!

MY REVIEW: This is the best French Restaurant in the South. Louisians has Cajun but this is French. I live in Houston but take a Limo with my friends so we can drink and take our time savoring the wonderful food and wine. Don't miss this one and do not think that second best is close. Go first class and enjoy!

MY REVIEW: This is one of my favorite places to eat in Houston. It is in Humble but worth the drive. The food is incredible. The atmosphere is cozy and romantic. This is a expensive place to dine but worth the cost. The wine list is also very good. I thought that the service was pretty good without being overbearing. My only complaint was that the waiter was not attentive about refilling my wine glass. A minor blemish on a perfect evening.

MY REVIEW: Fantastic! This is the kind of establishment which forces the competition to pull up their socks. We both love good food but my wife has an aversion to cooking so we dine out often, Chez nous is in our opinion one of the best restaurants in this part of the country. The Chef is comfortable with classics as well as inovative, the plates look great and taste better, we love the diligent service and cozy atmosphere, it is not cheap but worth every penny.

MY REVIEW: This restaurant is an exquisite experience in the middle of nowhere--on a quiet street in an old leafy neighborhood. The French courses are nothing less than works of art, truly rivalling the best in New York, which to me has the finest French food outside of Paris. So to discover such impeccable detail, where each course is a work unto itself, multi-layered in its culinary surprises and beauty, makes spending an evening at Chez Nous a divine experience. Look at their menu online before you go. The descriptions alone will leave little doubt as to what kind of establishment it is. The service on busy nights can be less than 5 star, so don't let that spoil your experience. Choose a time and date that's out of the ordinary, and enjoy this little treasure all to yourselves. We've been coming here for years and will continue to make it our special occasion and special treat dinner destination.

MY REVIEW: This romantic-out-of-the-way jewel of a restaurant keeps getting better. The service is quietly efficient and attentive, the food superb, no mish mash of unheard of ingredients, the wine list solid. They know what they are doing. It would be nice if the chef came out to visit from time to time but may be that's why it is so good!

MY REVIEW: A very special lady friend made reservations for us on my birthday back in July. The service was excellent, the food was supurb and the atmosphere was romantic enough to fall in love. That is why I am returning this evening, Sept. 9. It is my hope that J will fall as deeply in love with me as I am with her...Wish me luck!

MY REVIEW: This place is fabulous. The wait staff is very attentive without being intrusive. Everything I have tried has been wonderful. I especially love the greens salad with seasonal fruit and fresh parmesan shavings. I have dined at many "high price" inner loop restaurants, and Chez Nous wins hands down against all of them for price and taste. I'm so glad it's close to home in Humble so I don't have to make the hour drive to Houston.

MY REVIEW: The food is unbelievable! My parents and I went for my birthday and what a treat. I really enjoyed the cerviche for an appatizer, and the pa seared salmon special was falvorful. I like that they offer cheese plates for desert. It offers an alternative to having sweets. And the choices of cheeses were also complimented each other in tasts. The wine list is extensive and the price ranges are reasonable. I did fine the decore outdated, and the seating arrangemnt small. It reminded me of eating in New York City. So if you are not one that likes to be close to your neighbor, this might feel uncomfortable.

Server was very knoweldgeable of the menu and of the wine list. Dessert presentaion was beautiful as well as unique.

I would definatly be here again, and just to eat not to celebrate an occasion.

MY REVIEW: WOWWW!!! Can any good thing come out of Humble?? If you're looking for a five star meal the answer is YES!! A dear friend took me to Chez Nous tonight for a belated birthday celebration (my first meal there). Mapquest gave us bad directions, but when I called to say we would be late, they were very gracious. My friend had her first escargot and I thought she would never stop smiling. Most tender and flavorful I have ever tasted. I was delightfully surprised at the generous portions of rack of lamb they served me. The sauce was the epitome of succulence with just a touch of sweet to balance out the rosemary. My hostess' Tournedos Rossini were fork tender and exquisite. Even the vegetables were extra special (ordinary carrots, mashed potatoes, green beans (haricot verts) and grated cabbage became things of beauty.

I've been priviledged to eat in some of the finest restaurants in America and abroad and have never had a meal to surpass this one. T*ony's wine cellar comes close on the food but can't begin to match the warm gracious service.

Take someone who has never been. They will wonder how you got so knowledgable.

MY REVIEW: Our group of 4 went to Chez Nous this past weekend for my friend's birthday. We were not disappointed.. Great service and the food was tres delice! My friend and I had the steak, it was so tender, I could cut it using a regular knife. My other two friends had the salmon and halibut which I did try and the salmon was very good. We had escargots for an appetizer and loved the dipping the sauce with the warm bread.. We will be coming back again!
