Chez Nous

MY REVIEW: Great restaurant for a nostalgic experience. Lots of classic French fare & decent but small wine list. Both foie gras are tasty. Great romantic spot.

MY REVIEW: If you’re looking to celebrate your anniversary, birthday, or another special occasion, or are just in the mood to eat at an extremely nice albeit somewhat dated restaurant, then make reservations and head to Chez Nous.
Chez Nous is one of the finest dining experiences in Humble, with delicious French cuisine ready for you to enjoy. Chef Stacy Crowe-Simonson takes special care of each meal to ensure that it is perfect when it reaches your table. While the menu is expensive, the experience is divine, so well worth your time when you’re ready for the substantial expense.
Chez Nous is not a great restaurant for children, so grab a sitter the night you decide to go. The restaurant for the most part foregoes the usual pretentious nature that you can find at most French restaurants, although the maitre'd can display a flair of condescension if he deems a guest's request is beneath his station. However, the staff is generally unassuming and ready to answer any questions and be of any service.

MY REVIEW: By far the best restaurant in Houston and vicinity. They deliver excellent, well presented food with a total lack of pretention and weird ingredients that seem to be in fashion nowdays. The service is prompt and unobtrusive. The decor is slightly old fashion and it works. Well worth the drive!

MY REVIEW: "GREAT SCOTT" (and of course Stact too) This is by far one of Houston's finest restaurants. They are so "On Point" in every area. Excellent cuisine, Great wines, A superb wait staff, Over the top desserts, and a Very cozy environment. We have been customers there for over 20 years and have yet to catch them on an "off" night. Chef Brach was excellent, and now Chef Stacy has escalated the menu to new heights, as well as maintained the integrity of the original dishes. Our "Hats are Off" to this establishment, and I encourage them to "Keep up the Good Work". How great a pleasure it is to eat there!

MY REVIEW: Second visit to Chez Nous after a somewhat dissappointing first visit. Must say, the food, wine and service was superb. GF and I ordered from the Tues nite Prix Fixe menu, which included a shrimp remoulade app, an Atlantic Salmon and Beef/mash entree each and dessert. Absolutely top notch. Owners Stacy and Scott are determined to please their customers and view critique as a means to improve food offerings and services. Without hesitation, Chez Nous is at or near the top of the Houston area "food chain"..

MY REVIEW: We were shocked at the sophistication of the staff and delighted with the food. Who knew Humble had such a fantastic gem of a restaurant.
We have food allergies (corn, soy & peanut) and Chef was quick to put us at ease and we were able to enjoy dinner with no complications. Corn is one of the most ubiquitous ingredients, appearing in many foods as additives or ingredients derived from corn and we were pleased with how Chef and the staff handled our situation. The food was not only delicious, it was safe to eat.

MY REVIEW: Superb food; french classics made modern, very good service, fine wine selection, comfortable and cozy surroundings, terrible location! but I guess that when you have the first four down location does not matter. We often host guests from Europe, take them to Chez nous and smirk at their stupefaction.

MY REVIEW: Excellent well presented food, a seamless combination of the great French classics and "new wave" creative dishes. We have never been disappointed. The service is good and thankfully the waitstaff do not great you by saying "Hi guys!"

MY REVIEW: We have been to this restaurant several times and we really liked it although the last visit was not outstanding as recorded by my wife on her 6/14/09 review below.
Nevertheless, we decided to give it another try and had dinner there with 3 family members. It was the right decision. We all had the chef table (some of us with the wine pairings) and it was a delicious and memorable dinner. The food was outstanding (the scallops were the best I have ever tasted; one guests commented: “these are excellent…and I don’t even like scallops!”), the wine pairings were spot on and the timing and amount of food was perfect. The service, without exaggerating, was probable was one the best I have ever had in a restaurant. Just an example: one of the wines served was Pinot Noir and I just don’t like it…when I talked with the waiter about it, I was immediately offered to change it for something else (a California cabernet sauvignon) that paired perfectly with the meal served (ravioli made with pork Berkshire).
It was so enjoyable to be able to talk with having to raise our voices. We stayed for hours and we were never rushed. At the end of the dinner, I talked with Scott, one of the co-owners, and we discussed the meal and some suggestions we had to improve an almost perfect meal. The suggestions were taking graciously and there is no doubt that we will be coming back to Chez Nous; how could we not: it’s our favorite restaurant in Houston.

OWNER RESPONSE:: To "Bornie", Thank you so much for taking the time to let us know about your recent visit. I checked the Pork again after reading your review and indeed it was a little tough. As we do take our criticism very seriously, I have brined the pork to ensure that is juicy, moist and bursting with flavor. We strive to provide the best experience possible, in all areas, for all of our guests. I have spoken with our waitstaff as to your experience so that we may learn from what happened and so that it will not happen again. I know that does not change your experience but I hope that you can feel confident that we heard your concerns and are definitely doing something about it.

MY REVIEW: First trip to Chez Nous and probably last.. Have lived in Houston for 15 yrs and had never made it to chez nous so at the encouragement of my gf we finally made it.. all was well until my "special" entre made it to the table,,, a Berksire Pork chop. The chop was tough to cut and chew.. It actually took effort to eat.. when the waiter finally made it over to the table to ask how I enjoyed the "special" i told him, that I had to "saw" thru the meat and was tuff to chew.. was asked again by a second and I mentioned the same thing.. Neither asked if I wanted another entree or offered to refund me when my check was due.. I chewed thru a 1/3 of the chop and left very disappointed that no one offered to replace/refund or offer anything up.. Will not return.. Stay away from food items that aren't their signature dishes,, (I'm told rack of lamb and fillet).. certainly don't expect support from staff if the entree does not live up too your expectations.

MY REVIEW: Went there on a Monday evening for a nice quiet dinner with fresh ingredients. We were not disappointed. We decided to do the tasting menu. I personally was nervous because I am not a huge fish eater, but the staff started asking likes and dislikes to guide the chef. I received no fish and loved everything.
We got a great education about our wines and eventually struck up a conversation with the staff. It made the entire experience feel like you are dining with family. The staff all has tremendous pride in there work from the hostess, owner, waiters and support staff. I even witnessed one of the wait staff pick up the coffee pot, feel it and take it back to the kitchen, because the temperature was not up to snuff. Quality is found in all of the staff and food.
I appreciate the organic and farm fresh food and would recommend to all diners, not just foodies. Look forward to eating there again soon.

MY REVIEW: We have eaten at Chez Nous numerous times and have always been thrilled, very comfortable atmosphere, wonderful service as well as outstanding cuisine have made this our destination restaurant whenever we travel to Houston (Humble). Sadly our recent visit disappointed, Ourselves and our guest made overnight reservations and drove 2 hours in order to dine. Unfortunately for the first time I left feeling it wasn't worth the effort. Appetizers ordered where Soupe a l'Oignon, Escargots de Bourgogne as well as the Tartare of Beef Tenderloin all were superb. Mid course's ordered were Caesar Salad as well as the Heirloom Tomato & Watermelon salad. The tomato & watermelon salad was not to our taste, flavors did not meld and it was an unpleasant experience. For the main course both couples ordered the Chateaubriand Béarnaise. While cooked to a perfect temperature the dish was lacking in flavor. Since this is a favorite of ours at Chez Nous we were understandably disappointed. Service was chaotic and we had to ask for our check twice. I will hesitate to return and will definitely not bring guest again, as it was an embarrassment after we had raved over how well executed every aspect of the meal would be in advance.

MY REVIEW: We visited Chez Nous some years ago when Gerard Brach was still the chef/owner. Now under new ownership things have not slipped a bit, it's still one of the best restaurants in the Houston area. The charcuterie appetizer was superb, especially the duck pate. My husband had the duck breast and duck leg confit entree which he loved. I had something off that day's menu: roasted free range chicken with sun dried tomatoes on a brown butter polenta. Just fabulous! And since it was our anniversary we went all out and share the souffle trio for dessert. Still dreaming about that. Great, professional service.

MY REVIEW: Chef Stacy Crowe Simonson is a star who does not want to be one, she just loves to put out great food, her husband Scott completes the circle with great dining room attention. In New York, Boston, Chicago etc. they would be famous We are lucky to have them in Houston.
